yall really got me into this series on the strength of wang ye and zhuge qing as foils and their relationship. i knew they weren't technically the main characters but that did not prepare me for not even seeing our guy zhuge qing until like episode 7?? like i go into this and i'm like, who is this guy with the ridiculous haircut??? when do we get to the sleepy monk and cocky idol? (I get that Chulan's hair is an attempt to mimic an animated silhouette, but some things do not work on a real person.)

anyway, yall didn't tell me at all about the ways Wang Ye and Zhang Chulan parallel each other! Like, there's so much here. Both are underestimated because people only see what they want them to see. Both would rather avoid fights. Neither use their full power unless seriously pressed. Both would probably rather actually spontaneously combust than directly talk about their issues. They're both constantly using the 'don't fight me, i'm just a little guy' excuse when they're magical powerhouses that could solve most of their problems using their ultimate moves. But having those ultimate moves is essentially the cause of their problems.

Like, Wang Ye is just desperately trying to take a nap at every opportunity and Zhang Chulan has tried to sneak away from every serious fight. I swear the running gag in the early episodes where someone kidnaps him and the moment they take their eyes off him, he's sneaking away, usually while the kidnapper tries to fight someone else. When Wang Ye tells his master he wants to compete in the tournament the guy legit says 'you can't even get a full nights sleep, why would you want to do that'. They both flip on a dime from super serious vibes to 'I'm a weird little dude who doesn't care about my rep.' Anytime one of them get caught being weird/suspicious they react by making it weirder so the person they're annoying forgets the original weirdness. Their meeting in the bathroom. Not calling out NDT's blatant shenanigans/cheating. THE EATING CONTEST. Zhuge Qing calls it out, they both didn't have to do any of this and it goes against their best interests to continue but they still do it.

Qimen is an art form that uses time and space as entry points to hack the Way of Heaven. It is very complex to set in motion and requires complicated calculations to complete. To predict every strike of an opponent during a fierce fight is something human brains don't have the computational capacity for. This is what makes Wu-hou Qimen so special.

2023 Fav Drama :

I am fairly new to Chinese drama and my (watched) list is limited however this year I absolutely adored and loved :

The reason to watch this drama was solely this scene 😂

And after that I just got hooked. This was well edited story wise, considering how vastly the donghua and manhua story line is.

Loved all the characters in this drama all the actors did an exceptional job portraying their characters.

Shout out to my eternal bl couple (even though nowhere its been implied) in my heart these two are a couple and will be in any other drama they in!.

Loved Neo Hou as Wang Ye. This was my first drama of his and totally fell in love with him 🙈 now i understand the hype about him kekekeke.

Imagine being Zhang Chulan's professor. He's a lackluster student, but he attends reliably, even though his most notable contribution is snoring while other students are talking. He's one of those nice but unmotivated students you remember because he stands out, not in a good way, but not in a really bad way, either. You consider asking him to come to office hours so you can give him a little pep talk about applying himself, or to find out if there's something you can do to alleviate a problem or situation that makes it hard to concentrate.

Then, one day, he just stops coming to class. You wait a few days, expecting him to show up with a doctor's note or evidence of a family emergency. But he's just gone! He doesn't seem to have any friends in the class, but you ask your favorite student if anyone has seen him anyway. They're not even sure who you're talking about.

It's too late to drop classes, so you know it can't be that and check with the registrar to see if he has withdrawn for the term, but he has not. He fails to hand in homework, misses exams. You don't lose sleep over the matter but you're lowkey worried because you were rooting for him and hoping he'd squeak by with a passing grade. At this rate, you'll have no choice but to fail him.

He shows up on the day of the final exam with the wildest, most nonsensical, obviously delusional excuse you've ever heard in your 30+ years of teaching. Does he really think you're such a simp you'll buy that crap? You get so mad with yourself for ever giving this kid the benefit of the doubt that you fail him on the spot.

What I love about I Am Nobody is that it's hilarious and colorful and insane, until it starts to rip out your heart when you least expect it to, like all good dramas do.

The amount of tears I have cried for my girl Feng Baobao, you have no idea. 💔
