Heaven Official's Blessing
Is it surprising I giving you another #MXTX related review? Nope! Perhaps it's the Heaven Official's Blessing. Perhaps I'm dragging you down to hell-
If you don’t know how to continue living, then live for me. If you don’t know what meaning there is continuing to live, then for now, please use me as your reason to live, and treat me as your pillar to support you in life. Xie Lian was once upon a time the noble Crown Prince of Xian Le, a country that disappeared 800 years ago. He was born under a lucky star, yet after ascending to godhood at a…

Bad End: Cultivation
The rope creaked softly, suffering under the weight it was not meant to bear, as it stretched out, seemlingly endless into the mist. This had once been a bridge. The entrance to this lonely place. Humble as it was, the simple rope bridge had once stood for time immemorial. A path of safety above Soul Eater mists below.
Terrible creatures and unspeakable monsters dwelled down there. Things that devoured. Even the mists themselves, were said to drive men mad. Cause hallucinations and aggression. Qi draining in nature. It was like a living thing that digested you slowly.
Unless, of course, you could escape.
Or, it was said, if you were like the legendary immortal who had founded this temple. HE had apparently just walked. Refused the mist's their hold on him. Then climbed the cliff face to this mountain top. I somewhat doubted that tale. But then again, staring down at the rolling mists... it seemed impossible that ANYONE could have ever survived them.
The bridge creaked on, in the soft breeze. There were days it's groans sounded like the cries of a beast in pain. Tortured. When the wind rattled and dragged at what remained of its form. Trying to pull it from it's post. Down, down, down to it's final end.
There was a boot print. Terrible and damning. Cracked, IMPRINTED, deep into the base of the pillar that once held up one side. Far away, the bridge must surely still be stable. Both pillars standing tall, like gaurds. Like brothers. But here?
One powerful kick.
And the bridge had disappeared out from underneath all those that stood upon it.
Everyday... every day I come. Every day I look upon this bridge. Upon the boot, a terrible sin imprinted into stone, and I tell myself I do not recognize the size of it. That my suspicions are wrong. My instincts surely lying. Because... because if I do not?
What can I do? What could I POSSIBLY hope to do? If my suspicions WERE correct? If in this place, lives a monster? I am not stronger them him. Without him, I would be utterly alone. He has insured I am all but dependant on him. Not teaching me how to cook nor clean, farm nor fight. All practical skills are lessons for another day. Forever another day.
Yet...
Yet, I MUST know.
I torture myself with this. The wondering. The questions I do not not ask, for fear he will not even bother hiding behind lies. I stare at the old, long dried blood that stains where the bridge once ended. The shimmering heavenly gold. Somehow... some horrified, gut wrenched, SCREAMING instinct... knows it to be the blood of Tree Fruit.
It is the blood of the unborn. Those that will never get the chance, now. They... they were not even apart of anyone's body. Were wholly seperate, dependent and their protectors for survival. Were FRUIT for God's sake. Just as I had been. Souls reborn, not from flesh, but clean and new, from a Divine Tree. Ascendant from some other place.
I don't know WHY they were taken from the Tree. Why I was. My memory is spotty. It was too soon. I had not forgotten yet. Was not READY yet. It should have been safest to stay there. Be born into the world. Yet... they were on this bridge, instead. Attacked. The blood of infants stains the stones and will never wash clean. I can not... I was still FRUIT, then.
I can not REMEMBER.
And so I come. Again and again, before this rope. That stretchs out into the mists. Above far more terrible things. And try to recall. Make sense of it this terrible thing before me. This bridge. A long, worn, straining rope. With old, well-worn wooden planks, weathered by the ages, that... that hang like bodies.
Strung up in an endless row.
That whisper as they clack and groan with suffering in the wind, "A crime. A crime. Great evil was committed here!"
I tell myself... like a child hiding from monsters they KNOW are real. Trembling and blood soaked, terrified, as they crawl as far back into some small dark place as they can... I... I do not want to compare the boot print in that stone to Lei's. That they would be different sizes, even if I did.
I do not convince myself.
I never do.
"Shimei, this disciple wonderd where you were..." calls out a familiar voice. Deep in the way dangerous waters are deep. Smooth and placid at the surface. With something deadly I can not see, far, far below. "This one has found you at the bridge again. What captivates you so? You missed your morning snack. Should be on your way to early morning meditations."
My smile is more of a grimace, as I turn.
There are days... when forgetting is easy. When the tranquility of this place seeps itself into my bones. The comfort he deliberately arranges for me. The scheduled repetition. It is... trance-like.
Sitting with tea and snacks. Watching the early morning's sunlight dance off the distant mist. As birds wake and dew settles. The world hushed. Cup warm in my hand. Coat dropped over my shoulders. It is beautiful. The meditation garden is beautiful. EVERYTHING here is beautiful.
It is the fact that it is... empty, that bothers me.
This was not a temple built for two people. Remote as it must be in the world. The sect built this place for a reason. And each day that passes? I am more convinced that reason was to have a place to fall back too. The temple is lovely... but more then that? It is a FORTRESS.
Difficulty getting here is not even a fraction of the defens it holds.
So WHY?
WHY are there only two people here?
I nod, stepping towards my "shixong" as he insists I call him, dispite there being just the two of us. His hand reaching out to take my arm, guide me. I no longer need help navigating these halls. But he does not stop. Clings to his excuses to coddle and touch. It is a fight I can not win. I pick my battles. But, before his hand reaches my sleeve. Knife!
A throwing knife, shrieks near silent through the air as it cuts between us. Nearly removing Lei's fingers as it does. I jerk away, startled. He whips around towards the bridge.
"GET AWAY FROM THAT CHILD!"
The voice that roars that command has the distinct rasp of old age. Sure enough, a figure in flowing robes surges forward from the mist, running light as a feather across the single rope that remains of the bridge. Long white hair and beard. A wrinkled face, more accustomed to smiling, now turned into a fierce and determined scowl. The robes of a Grand Master.
There are a handful of warriors following him.
But the one that I can not look away from... it's... it's like looking through the lense of a half forgotten dream. Blurred by angles all wrong. But oh... oh how could I forget that face? The one that stares at me with such fierce and fearful determination?
...Shijie?
More then an older sister, less then a mother. Whisperd promises, muffled by liquid, from long ago. I know that face. KNEW it. It once smiled down at me, as I grew upon my branch, and promised we would be family. Loved me. Beautiful and patient, as she whispered about all the wonders of world.
I was...
Oh.
I was supposed to go with HER.
Be raised by HER. A little sister, a daughter, someone she could guide and grow with. My memories struggle to come together, but faced with familiar faces? They TRY. Especially as power begins to surge around me. Terrible and familiar. The beginnings of a fight.
Someone on my branch. Not my sister. Pale as morning mist and just as untouchable. He seemed lonely. I was lonely. Far from other Fruit, an awkward thing, high up, and on an old twisting branch. That had missed all nipping and cultivation by being accidentally hidden by the leaves surrounding it. The fruit was supposed to grow lower to the ground, where it could be watched. Safe.
But I happened anyway.
And I was alone.
No others to spend my time with. No disciples to come and care for me, day to day. So when the mist man came? I clumsily... reached out. Pat pat. There, there. I'm here, "dude". (I... can not remember what that word meant. But I know I knew it. It was friendly, I think.)
He was surprised to find me, up there.
I don't not think he told anyone.
I...I think he was supposed too?
But it did not matter in the end. Someone else found his hiding spot. Found me. There was much shouting and alarm. Elders, I think. Doctors, to insure I was well. Great relief, that I was a hardly little thing, developing as I should. After that? I had constant visitors. None that seemed very interesting... until... until my Shijie.
They were looking, I think, through interested parties for a match. Who would adopt me. Then there was softness. Sweet, golden days. The mist man visited. Anger from him? Not at me. Displeased. Covetous? I did not understand. Something wrong was growing but I was unborn... did not have a name yet for the sensation.
Just that is was...Dark.
Then it was night time. A beautiful moon through the branches. Smoke, black and terrifying. Screaming and the clash of swords. Unbearable heat, climbing and climbing. Lights blinking out. Dying? Were... were they dying? The great Tree, divine and holy, groaning in agony. Wood popping from heat. Splintering from blows.
Feet upon my branch. Running, running, running. Falling too their knees. Swordsman's hands. Bloody, wrong, not my shijie. Where is my shijie? Sister! SISTER?! I am being pulled. No. No, it is not time. It is too soon. The Fruit is not ready.
The hands do not care.
I am torn out by the roots.
Where the Tree should be... is nothing. I SCREAM. It hurts! A void. The ocean of life gone, gone, GONE! Already I am starving. Destabilizing. Dying again. Scared! Please! I am-!
A hand wraps around the raw nerves of my roots. They are wrong. I know them, but they are WRONG. Where is shijie? Sister... SISTER! Please!! Energy floods back in, as though it never stopped. But... but it is not clean. Like brackish water after so long in clear springs, I choke as I try to adjust.
Moving.
Running.
Where is the Divine Tree? I want to go home.
Others join. Burned. Bleeding. They have Fruit too. I have never been so close to others. They sound nervous too. Scared. But they have their family. Why do I not? There is some plan. A bridge that goes on and on. Below us are terrible things. They are talking? The end in sight.
"-viously you can't... -ep her, she's not your child. Y.. -eat thing protecting her th.. -ll be so relieved you have her child. N.. -all we have to... -ait out this..."
Something ugly is rising. Danger. DANGER. No, no, NO. STOP. Run! Bad thing is coming! I don't-! I can't-! Covetous, terrible, tar-like WRONG! Seeping up like festering! Stop it, stop it, STOP IT!!
The sound of a sword being drawn.
I am tucked close. Cradled like something precious. As a blade sings destruction through the air. A shocked and betrayed cry. Confusion. I can see horror on faces, feel terror from the other Fruit. Two of them are dead. CRUNCH. The bridge violently lists to the side, weight no longer equally supported.
Time seems to slow... as ancient metal slides free of stone.
Half those on the bridge are gone in an instant, as the floor swings out from below them like a trapdoor. Those that remain? Are the souls fast enough to grab the rail that still remains. The boards, as they fall. They hang above certain death, as their friends fall screaming in primal fear, to horrific death below.
How long can they hold on?
Especially with only one hand?
A few already lost their grip on their Fruit in the sudden shift. Can only stare in numb and mind blank horror, soul deep agony, as the bright little lights fall... and fall... and fall...
Inside my Fruit I SCREAM.
I do not remember after that. Only being born. It is a blur of trauma my mind must have refused to keep. D..Damn it. DAMN IT! I jerk away from Lei. I had known. I hadn't WANTED to know... but I had KNOWN.
The Grand Master attacks. His blade crashing like the might of a wrathful god against Lei's. Sending him sliding back. The master pressing his advantage, warriors rushing to fan out between the fighters and me.
Arms. Soft yet unimaginably powerful, the scent of tea and the medicinal flowers she proudly grew for the sect, I was pulled into an embrace. My head tucked against her neck. Arms bordering on too tight. As though I would disappear at any moment.
"Shimei.." my shijie whispered, a wounded sound. "This sister has you. We have come to rescue you. The traitor will never hurt you again. Come!"
This felt right. I nod. Follow her towards the bridge.
"Thief."
Lei's snarls. Never has there been an uglier, more venomous sound. One of the warriors, acting as a shield, dies preventing my sister from being speared through the heart from behind. Desperately, she scoops me up. Breaking into a sprint.
"Do you truely think you can take this one's Disciple from him? His WORLD!?" An unhinged laugh echoed along side the clash on blades. "There is NOWHERE you can hide her, that I will not find! She is MINE! Belongs with ME! You can run but there is NO WHERE you can hide!"
I cling to my sister as she jumps up on the rope, racing away from the gilded cage that was my only home. Over her shoulder, Lei is locked in combat. The ugly something I had always known was there, finally out in the air between us. Demonic energy spilled from him like radiation. Sickening and every bit as caustic. His eyes wild as they lock onto me.
"I'm going to BURN everything that gets in my way, my disciple." He croons, the grin spreading across his face a thing that will haunt me. "Just like before. NOTHING will keep you away from me. Nothing! I am going to hunt you down, drag you to ascension, then spend the rest of time making you MINE."
"And nothing will stop me, child. Not even you. Why?"
"Because I LOVE You."

Danmei Faves Meet Chopped: The Thought Experiment
(with the caveat that I have not read All The Danmei so actually this is “a limited selection of danmei faves” meet chopped) (also as of their official translations, no spoilers pls)
The Contestants:
1) Xie Lian
Pros: There is not one single thing that you could put into a basket that this man would be intimidated by. Not a single thing. He will cook anything that you hand to him, and be delighted to do so. You cannot phase him with unlikely ingredients or conflicting flavor profiles, he has risen above these concerns. He is smiling at everything he pulls out of the basket and probably scaring the other contestants in the process.
Cons: He might kill someone. Not on purpose. He will be out after round one, guaranteed, once the medics standing by in case of cuts intervene for a severe case of “all the judges are now poisoned.” Filming will probably have to stop so ambulances can be called. The crew generously allows him to take his leftovers with him.
2) Wei Wuxian
Pros: He is going to pack so much flavor in every bite! Every single bite! This man knows and embraces spice, and no one will be able to tell him that his meal is bland or underseasoned! Chili oil all over the damn plate!
Cons: The flavor is pain, he’s used every pepper the pantry has, and if he makes it to round two it’s only because of Xie Lian accidentally unleashing the horrors in round one.
3) Mo Ran
Pros: He’s a good cook! He makes a variety of dishes, and he’s gotten used to adjusting recipes for specific preferences. He’s well-traveled so it’s likely he’s encountered many ingredients and had practice in a variety of conditions, which is good experience to have in this competition. He’s been doing his best to be on his best behavior, but heaven help anyone who monopolizes the fryer.
Cons: Again - he’s been on his best behavior, but that’s really for one person who is not currently in the kitchen. He also only really cooks for one person, who has particular tastes.
4) Luo Binghe
Pros: Also a good cook! He, too, has a range of dishes he knows how to prepare, with years of practice going back (probably) as far as his adoption in his early childhood. He is well-traveled as well, with such exciting and… unique locales such as Hell Dimension (aka Endless Abyss) where he probably had to make… questionable culinary choices, so he probably won’t be thrown by whatever’s in the basket.
Cons: There’s a non-zero chance that there’s blood in the food.
(Of this particular line-up, I think it would come down to Mo Ran vs. Binghe for the dessert round, which will be a close call - they both have experience with desserts, I imagine, but I think Mo Ran might have a slight advantage considering Chu Wanning’s sweet tooth. He’s made a lot of sweets and more often. Also, can Binghe lean on a “protagonist halo” when Mo Ran is the protagonist of his own story?)
(Assuming the final round doesn’t devolve into chaos and sabotage, which… is very, very possible.)
The Non-Contestants:
Hua Cheng: Could he do well on chopped? Almost certainly. But why would he? He is here to cheer on gege.
Lan Wangji: Would probably actually do better than Wei Wuxian, if he cooks the meal to Wei Wuxian’s taste - I feel like he would be a little more sparing with the spice. Otherwise, his food is probably too bland for the judges.
Chu Wanning: He has one good dish, and it’s [redacted]. He could last a round but after that he’s probably out. He will do his best. He will not look like he is panicking (he is panicking).
Shen Qingqiu: A millennial who choked to death on bad food and rage. He probably has limited kitchen skills, but beyond the powers of having a microwave? Who knows.
Bonus Round:
Li Yu: He would try so hard. He would put every bit of skill he had on the table. He does not have any skill to put on the table. Do not put a fish in his basket, do not do this to him.
Mu Tianchi: Probably wouldn’t even compete. He’s going to steal Li Yu’s food from the judges. How dare they.
Chang Geng: He could probably do well in the competition, if he could be convinced to compete, but he probably couldn’t. He is smiling very politely at the producer, who is feeling a chill down their spine and backing away slowly.
Gu Yun: Do not let this man in the kitchen, he will cause problems on purpose.

they said it so well
In hindsight the popularity of using “demonic cultivation” for what Wei Wuxian uses is running counter to what is actually in MDZS being used. It is resulting in a lot of fandom confusion, particularly since demonic cultivation is a xianxia genre standard. But that’s not what is going on in MDZS. The genre standard demonic cultivation revolves around stealing qi, absorbing life energy from others, possessing others to get access to their greater cultivation abilities, and in general much more assholery than what Wei Wuxian does. The actual term used by Wei Wuxian and most of the narration in the novel is Guǐdào; aka Ghost Cultivation. It revolves around manipulating the dead, using resentful energy as a power source, and to be absolutely blunt it is a form of necromancy. It is the “redirection” option in dealing with the dead; drain away resentful energy so that you can convince the dead to finally let go and be liberated. Either by getting the justice they were denied in life or having lifted the worst of their anger and attachment so they can think clearer. Not demonic cultivation. The very title “Mo Dao Zu Shi” is part of the subversion element and part of setting in motion assumptions about the story for the original Chinese readers who know the genre and what the usual tropes are. Because calling it “Gui Dao Zu Shi” would give away too much from the start of what is actually going on. Also per MXTX, Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian are “morally perfect” and as that is the intention given by the author herself, that means nothing Wei Wuxian does with ghost cultivation has to actually harm the ghosts in a way that would be morally wrong. Like destroying them, preventing them from reincarnating, that kind of thing. He does not hurt the dead. He’s honestly shown to be more friendly with the undead; he is endlessly kind to them in fact and even gentle. Polite too and that deserves marking because Wei Wuxian ignores most manners because he generally doesn’t care. But he puts that care into how he treats the gui (undead) he commands and works with. He gives them rewards for a job well done as shown in the Yi City arc! The one who does use ghost cultivation to hurt both the living and dead is Xue Yang who is repudiated by Wei Wuxian; “Xue Yang has to die” is what he says and that is what he helps Lan Wangji do. But the actual founder? The guy who made it and is the absolute master of it? Rejects that kind of thinking all the way through the story, even at his lowest.
written by lovepsychothefirst on pillowfort
the tag on ao3 is Demonic Cultivation (Modao Zushi) when it should really be Ghost Cultivation | Guidao (Modao Zushi) or something similar, and there should also be specification on which canon is being used, bc in CQL, the manhua, and the donghua, Guidao has adverse affects when in the novel it doesn't do shit to the practitioner.
#im so angry at the fact that everyone calls it demonic cultivation when its so blatantly wrong >:(#you should be more genre savvy than this!!!! clasic demonic cultivation in xianxia involves brainwashing people into becoming mindless--#servants and eating other peoples' golden cores to increase their own cultivation and sacrificing 13 people to summon an actual demon!!!!#mdzs#mxtx mdzs#mo dao zu shi#mo dao su zhi#modao zushi#the untamed#the grandmaster of demonic cultivation#the grandmaster of diabolism

Hi I just wanted to say I absolutely love your fic The Untold Tale so far. The way our favorite emperor is already obsessed with our favorite oblivious idiot is just perfection. You’re an incredible writing and all your fics are amazing. I can’t wait to see what you write next!
This is in reference to The Untold Tale (AO3 🔗).
Thank you very much for reading, anon! 🫶 I’m very happy there are still readers who are waiting for the next update and I’m very excited to return after I finish writing Truce ch3. 🥰 Honestly, after reading the Bingge vs Bingmei extra after SVSSS, my heart broke reading the passage where Bingge entreats Shen Qingqiu (Shen Yuan) to come with him and obviously gets rejected because Luo Binghe (Bingmei) won’t have his husband bride-napped even if it’s the PIDW version of himself and wanted to try my hand at writing a bingyuan story where our blackened Luo Binghe does get a version of Shen Yuan that’s tailor-made just for him. It also presented me an excuse to play around with a C-novel style of writing and granted me a small opportunity to write about my culture :) which is very rare for a writer. And I love it 💞 we also get to play with C-novel & C-drama stereotypes that I can playfully poke fun at and hope y’all find as subtly funny as I do . Playing with meta is very much aligned with the spirit of SVSSS, and this story was always intended to be a love letter to the novel series that got me through the pandemic and introduced me to the danmei genre.
I’m very excited when we return! I’ve got a lotta fun things planned. :) For the next chapter, we’re meeting the Jade Emperor. With SY being a celestial fortuneteller, we’re also meeting Shen Yuan’s PIDW equivalent family. After that chapter is the Moshang introduction chapter I’m most excited about because it’s the reveal of ✈️’s identity (and my illustration of him embedded in the chapter itself). It’s technically been foreshadowed already who he might be but you will never be able to guess who Airplane Shooting Towards the Sky transmigrated into in this new setting in PIDW in The Untold Tale. ✈️ can only blame his fellow novelist SY for this. He’s both lucky and unlucky. 😔😂
#ask#svsss#scum villain#bingyuan#luo binghe#shen yuan#scum villian self saving system#phoenix talks#anon#anon ask#ty for the ask!#this fic is probably the prettiest my writing has ever been#full of metaphors and allusions and meta refs (plus some Chinese cultural lessons)#it also gives me an excuse to write my fav ship (bingyuan) that’s not bingqiu & a chance to write moshang#we’re very much poking fun (affectionate) at the danmei & cultivation & palace intrigue genres

Hilariously my dungeon meshi brainrot is actually turning out to be an obstacle for writing mdzs fic?? And not in the 'can't focus due to shiny new hyperfixation' way either it's because of a philosophical conflict between the two works. It's not like they're complete opposites or anything but in mdzs and the cultivation genre at large the act of finding balance and spiritual enlightenment leads to this... slowing and even halting of the cycle of life. You can go without eating or sleeping, prolong your lifespan and even become immortal and these are all good admirable things to strive for. Meanwhile in dungeon meshi that would not fly at all like the whole story is an exploration on how trying to extract yourself from the cycle of life and the natural ecosystem you're a part of is actually really bad and you shouldn't do it. All living things need to eat and all will eventually be eaten!!
So when i've been rotating dunmeshi all day and wanna get to one of my wips i have to actively rewire my brain before I start going "Inedia is a violation of the natural cycle of consumption and being consumed" girl that is NOT the energy that's needed here.
#mdzs#dungeon meshi#fic writing#the contrast is pretty interesting but like... the idea of cultivating to immortality is way more than just a genre trope#it's the fucking basis for very real cultural and religious practices and philosophy going back millenia#you can't really try to 'subvert' that in an mdzs fic it's not really in any way what mdzs is about it's its literal philosophical backdrop#it's baked into the foundations of its world so deeply it's not really noteworthy anymore#so removing it doesn't feel like an imteresting exercise it just feels like a loss. it feels like ignorance.

was reading my first ever MDZS fic and pfft.
#four idiots canon divergence au#mdzs#grandmaster of demonic cultivation#mo dao zu shi#wei wuxian#nie huiasang#The first chapter does have issues. Mostly because it was also my first writing for any Chinese media/this genre in general#but this fic has a special spot in my heart as well#kk's writing tag#I am mostly a comedy writer when it comes to this fandom (four idiots series for both AUs) and this is one of the fics I completed after#years of writer's block and struggling with other fics. And it had everything I personally wanted to write. Comedy friendship and ghosts#(surprise hua cheng appearance with the whole city of ghosts and gambling in the middle)#the plot elements are very randomly thrown together but I do think that this helped me realize that my writing strength was in the#characterisation over the world building and like. Mystery writing.#I usually wrote rarepair ships before so to come into a mainstream pairing and fandom was....new. It's still strange but it's what it is#thank you to everyone who has ever interacted with my fics

Shen Qingqiu reminds me of Cale Henituse from the trash of the count's family.
It's the unreliable narration and the transmigrator lying to himself who ends up as an antagonist in a story and who says they want to laze around and be laid back and have a quiet life (and survives) while very much being the least laid back/lazy person in the story who will do several acts of kindness and change said story that way and telling themselves that they are absolutely doing them for selfish reasons while lying to us and themselves about their feelings as a coping mechanism (and also misunderstanding other's feelings towards themselves).
#the trash of the count's family#scum villain self saving system#shen qingqiu#shen yuan#cale henituse#kim rok soo#the difference is that one of them is gay and the other is probably aroace#also they are in completely different genre (although...Cale went to a cultivation world now) and from two different countries but those ar#just details#i love them#i wonder how lbh would react to Cale....#i think sqq came first ? but i read sv after tcf

The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System vol 3
The Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System vol 3
This is part of my growing number of Mo Xiang Tong Xiu posts. If you want to find more, check out the author tag here. A few days earlier, Shen Qingqiu couldn’t have gotten away from Luo Binghe fast enough, retreating three steps for every one he took. Now he didn’t want to do that sort of thing anymore. Retreating would make him look too much like a respectable woman kidnapped by a ruffian—too…

A tyrant who has spent his adulthood getting revenge on his unfeeling shizun commits suicide after his teacher-turned-concubine’s death and returns to his disciple days. I'm not gonna lie, hearing that the Nintendo Switch Online Playtest is identified as a "strand game" has made me more excited than any video game news since Alan Wake 2.
#fannish#I'm not quite sold on the whole concept being just more terra nullis stuff#but like okay. Almost all the most interesting ideas in Death Stranding are currently exclusively used by KojiPro#and the idea that Nintendo has been granted permission to use them#explicitly identified by them using the “strand game” moniker#(b/c *absolutely* no way they could be using that term if there wasn't some kind of a license in place)#is at least a lateral step#Granted my excitement is tempered by the ongoing Palworld lawsuit and the way that intersects with the DS patents#But Nintendo taking a crack at making something all-ages friendly with those mechanics can only have positive effects#also Nintendo is still like the one big big publisher that goes out of its way to cultivate new IPs#Like. I think Nintendo is probably looking for their next Splatoon#For a different genre and market

I think I've decided that I'm simply not going to think about genre, age category, target audience, or writing to market in regards to my writing until some potential nebulous future day where the logistics of publishing/marketing become relevant. until then I can do whatever I want and the target audience is Me
#the only way I fuel my writing is through cultivating a small flame of incredible hubris#who says I can't be the one to start trends and not follow them? who says I can't redefine genres? who says I can't make something unique#that people like for it's own sake and not because it falls in line with some trend that happens to be marketable at the time?#<<mindset that will probably make things harder later but oh well

Wild to me that in all the webnovels I’ve read so far, only Wangxian (and Xue Meng) end up as parents in their respective books. Please translation gods, send me a webnovel where the main couple end up as parents 😩
#mdzs#2ha#idk if those books aren’t interesting#or just no one wants to translate them#but i love me a good queer family 😩#that’s what got me into mdzs or elae I would’ve just skipped on by cnovels entirely#i still got quite a few books on my list to read though#maybe there’ll be something in them#also don’t get me wrong i love the cultivation genre#i just have a need for cultivator parents 🤣
