sorry but i am SO deeply tired of the 'aphobia isnt real' arguments because they are literally always being conducted in such bad faith. NO there is not specific societal or legal discrimation against aces and aros BECAUSE we are asexual and or aromantic. you cannot hold specifically bigoted beliefs towards a group you do not even know exist. there ARE, however, underlying and deeply pervasive systems and beliefs that actively erase, dehumanise and make life tangibly more difficult for aro and ace people on a social, economic and legal basis. most of this is due to hyperinvisibility, the medicalisation of any nonnormative + misunderstood orientations, the elevation of romance + romantic structures as the most important aspects of interpersonal relationships in society, as well as the nuclear atomisation of the family. among other things. like. amatonormativity has never been ABOUT aromantic people specfically oh my GOD. its simply the underlying social belief that everyone is expected to be in monogamous romantic relationships and that those relationships are expected to the default centre of one's life. its something that affects EVERYONE! but within that it affects aromantic people in a specific and heightened way because of our inability to participate in it in a societally acceptable way. like these are not 'aromantic' or 'asexual' or 'polyamorous' issues specifically. these are theories and terms that originated within feminist + queer sociology studies! its all part of the wider underlying social fabric! aspec people are simply pointing out that we are often affected by these things in unique and often unseen ways.

the idea that we believe people actively 'hate' us for being asexual or aromantic is completely ridiculous. most people i know do not even know the definition of those words! so how could they hate me for it. they could however, for example, hold the pervasive + societally unchallenged belief that not experiencing sexual or romantic attraction is a medical issue or something concerningly abnormal in a human being + something i should get fixed. and its not uncommon that when you DO explain that its simply your orientation to them, they continue to medicalise it and see it as some sort of issue. genuinely so deeply tired of having to explain this to people time and time again when they only want to cherry pick the most ridiculous arguments to respond to and then act as if that's a majority held opinion in the aspec community. like i actually think we are aware of how society views us we're not fucking deluded and stupid. we don't have victim complexes we are just pointing out facts that yall are so desperate to ignore. i just get rly emotional at the thought of kim feeling safe and cared for with harry. the fact that whenever harry defends him against bigotry, kim’s surprised reaction implies that harry is one of the few ppl who does. the fact that later, harry is able to pull him out if his shell. the fact that kim’s politeness starts waning, and he jabs and pokes fun at harry (and apologizes when he takes it too far). the fact that he goes from “im the finest of nothing” to “never fuck with kim kitsuragi”. the fact that kim is so quick to stand up for harry, even tho he tries to remain unengaged and neutral during most interactions. the fact that kim abandons all reason and falls to his knees, turning his back to all danger, and desperately presses his hands to try and save harry— and ONLY turns around if harry tells him to. because thats how much he trusts him. thats how much he cares. kim, who doesnt seem to be vulnerable or that close with pretty much anyone else, and gave up hope on relying on ppl a long time ago. and whats even more emotionally churning is that all of that trust, that affection, that *bond*, it all happens within a span of 4-5 DAYS OF KNOWING EACH OTHER.

its as if that same side of harry that can interact with cuno, acele, and annette (kids with complex fears and distrust towards others) that make em feel safe— the *juvie* side —can tap into kim’s inner child as well, and makes him feel safe, too

you let out a shaky laugh, your fingers fidgeting against your sleeve. “yeah.”

the two of you sat at the dining table, a single dish in front of you—something neither of you had ever tried before. trying new food was hard, but it was supposed to be easier with someone else, right?

except now you were both just staring at it, neither of you making a move.

schlatt sighed, leaning back in his chair. “look, we can just forget it. we don’t have to try new shit.”

you chewed the inside of your cheek. “i know.”

he looked at you for a second, scanning your face. you could tell he meant it—he never pressured you. never told you to just eat it or made you feel bad about how anxious you got. he got it. maybe not to the same extent, but he understood.

still, you hated how this made you feel. the tightness in your chest, the nausea curling in your stomach before you’d even taken a bite. it was just food. it shouldn’t be this hard.

you swallowed. “i… i think i wanna try it.”

his brows lifted slightly, but he nodded. “okay.”

you hesitated before cutting a tiny piece, your hands trembling. it felt like your body was rejecting it before it even touched your tongue. your breathing was unsteady, your heartbeat loud in your ears.

you felt schlatt’s hand rest over yours—warm, solid. “hey. you good?”

you nodded quickly. “yeah. yeah, just… gimme a second.”

“alright.” he didn’t sound annoyed, didn’t make any snide comments. he just took the plate and pulled it away from you, like it wasn’t a big deal. “forget it. we’ll get something else.”

you exhaled shakily, leaning against him as the nausea slowly faded. “sorry.”

he scoffed, wrapping an arm around you. “shut the fuck up.”

you let out a weak chuckle, and after a second, he reached for his fork.

“guess i’ll give it a shot,” he muttered, taking a bite—and immediately grimacing.

you watched as he chewed slowly, looking downright miserable.

“well?” you asked, voice still small.

he swallowed hard and made a face. “fucking disgusting.”

you blinked—then let out a laugh, leaning into him as the weight on your chest finally lifted.

1. Late teens to twenties

Sure. Maverick is in his twenties. But only looking at age would technically make me a twink so whatever. Let’s move on.

2. Slim to average physique

Maverick does not have an average physique. That man is built. He is in peak physical condition. He doesnt just sometimes work out, he is actively working out. Look at his arms! His trapezius! Those muscles are clearly developed and strong! In certain uniforms, his waist appears smaller, but that’s what the flight suit does to all silhouettes. Maverick is built like a brick, yes with hips, but he’s not little. He’s short of course, but he’s not small. He’s not lithe, he is muscular, he is BUILT! Look at the left bottom picture. Look at how rectangular. Look at how NOT lithe he is. Look at how not skinny he is. Like come on now.

3. Youthful/feminine appearance

While he is extremely youthful looking as Tom Cruise always appears, i disagree that tom cruise/maverick in Top Gun looks feminine. But that’s not to say that tom cruise has never appeared feminine or twink-like in any way. Legend (1985) is an example of his twink and feminine abilities. But for maverick i would argue that he looks very masculine. Boyish, which some argue is another visual feature for twinks, but not feminine (in my humble opinion).

4. Little to no body hair

To think that maverick has no body hair is just maverick unibrow erasure and i wont stand for it. But seriously. While tom cruise was waxed and oiled up for top gun, this is also happy trail erasure. I will now provide proof.

One of them is from mission impossible but um idc. It’s proof that Maverick HAS body hair, both around his chest and in … lower areas… but Maverick is not hairless enough to be a twink, especially because he doesnt fall into the other necessary categories to excuse/ignore his body hair.
