Chives are a great choice if you have limited space for growing plants and only have small or medium-sized pots. They are also a perennial plant that comes back every spring. I was weeding dandelions from our apartment yard as part of our community yard work event. I dug up the roots, collected them, then rinsed, peeled and dried them! Two steps left: roasting and brewing. The "tea" it makes is supposedly a lot like coffee in taste! Historically, it has been used as a coffee substitute during hard times in Finland.
Now (June) was probably not the best time to collect them, because dandelions are flowering and the nutrients have gone from the root to the flower. Before flowering in the spring or after wilting in the autumn would be best to get less bitter roots. But at least our yard looks cleaner!

made herbal smoking blends for partner and housemate 🌿
Rocket's has our mullein, coltsfoot, damiana, a friend's catnip, lobelia, and a bit of our spearmint. housemate's has our mullein, coltsfoot, friend's catnip, rose, and a bit of our spearmint. just that subtle menthol je ne sais quoi. 🤌🏽

Rocket has had a cough for several weeks so I'm hoping the lobelia and coltsfoot help with that.

If anyone would like to buy any of my crochet items, I'm partnering with creative juju and will be selling them at the Chesapeake flea market in Ohio. They are the sweetest group of people you'll ever meet who also make amazing things like shirts, jewelry, painting, herbs, soap etc they even do customs. You'll never find a warmer welcome there.
I still need to make a bit more before I take my first round of crochet there (including the sunflower pillow), but everything is well on its way
I will make a separate post to let everyone know when I finally get everything to the shop

Come make goldenrod with me!
Tumblr media
Goldenrod grows in abundance untouched by the modern world. It is also an invasive weed, so I'm doing my part by picking some to make ✨beauty products✨
I let it dry overnight, then this morning I washed it off with warm water. I decided to put them in the air fryer (350°F, or 176 C for you non-Americans out there) so they can dry quicker and kill off any contamination. The bundle I picked had a visitor which I promptly eliminated.

Ours had a removable rack so what I did was lay my stalks onto a piece of parchment paper, folded it up and put the rack on top. This keeps the plants flat so small bits won't fly around while cooking. After six minutes I took them out to cool and placed them into a clean jar. It's plastic and small, but I'm working with what I have.
Tumblr media
Since I got paid today I used the leftover money to buy sunflower oil. I will use the oil to infuse the goldenrod for about a month or so. I might also pick more to make a stringent. Because goldenrod grows near a highway I don't think they're suitable for dining. But questionably tasty or not, I won't deny they are very beautiful flowers.

meter melitta, bee-mother 🐝⛰️👑
just thinkin
coming up with a hyper-local offering incense recipe, for maybe Cybele, maybe Agdistis, maybe both
mugwort + motherwort + lavender (leaf) + pine, pulverized into a powder and bound with bee propolis, all from this little piece of land
it would be thematic to add almond powder/oil/fragrance, but then it wouldn't all be from here
"here" being the gardens and meadows and forests of the trans sanctuary intentional community - which feels relevant
I could see an argument for adding dandelion (dent de lion, lion's tooth) but motherwort is already genus Leonorus or lion's tail so the lions are represented
plus it is good for heartache and birth difficulties
feels apropos
