I've come so full circle from being on tumblr since I was in literal middle school and experiencing first hand the lack of media literacy on here to right now writing my graduate school SOPs on addressing the plummeting rates of media literacy and critical inquiry

i miss long hair :( i thought a bob would make me look more chic but i feel like it's only giving me a bobble head and making me look disporpotionate. i also feel like having long hair made more sense with the loose and boxy silouettes i wear, now i just look kinda frumpy. and i look so much like a Woman if i do anything polished now. maybe this was just a case of the hairdresser not doing the best job bc i have liked a bob before. but this was before my brother grew his hair out we look like we're in a cult when we're hanging out.

In my world there's a little creature called night's grief! They have translucent blue bodies (of the color of the nearest body of water when they're born). Their ribs are slightly out of the skin and their paws are exposed bone witha structure like a cat's. They have very long necks (disporpotionate) and a skull on their heads

These little guys came to be before humans even did! Lady Night of the upper pantheon made her people in her image. Night was still pretty young by god standarts by then, so she started seeing the oldest woman of her people as an elder/mother.

When that woman died, Night was super upset. Night's grief spawned of her grief and tears.

Night's grief are creatures that live in perpectual mourning/yearning for a "mother" that they'll never have. They don't hold memory of members of their own species and their biological mother isn't the "mother" they mourn. They tend to project sadness and it becomes paralysing hopelessness to whoever is around if they feel threathened

All the sound they make is "mother" in the language of the upper pantheon

In my world also, there's heaven where reside gods that were once human and can get kicked out, and there's the upper pantheon The upper pantheon consists of Life, Death, Mother Nature, Day, and Night. There isn't much to say about the first three, Life created the base from which everything evolved, Mother Nature watches over the world, and Death is just a guardian, she's just death. But Day and Night! They're different because they have their own people that are different from normal humans, Night's children and the daywalkers are Night's and Day's people They're really different in nature, though! Night's people are people that Night made in her image before regular humans appeared. They're her children and live in peace (their society is almost an utopia). Night is a very involved god! She doesn't care about outsiders but she is very attentive to her people. Night's people only die of old age or if they're killed (which they arent usually, Night destroys whoever harms her people). If they get sick, a little prayer is all it takes for Night to fix it. Day and the daywalkers, however! Day is a very different god than Night. While Night is peaceful and motherly, Day represents the horror of wake reality, and everything bad that it carries. He has an inhuman-almost-human appearance (uncanny valley) and the manneirisms to match.

While Night made her people from scratch in her image, the daywalkers are result of Day's prolonged fixation on a group of people that was initially normal humans. These humans, because of being under the influence his scrutinity and power for millenia, began to change to resemble him. Due to this, they were ostracised from regular society, which lead to full self sufficiency and separated culture. The daywalkers are not all that peaceful/utopic, because Day himself is not. The venerated all that is horrifying and dangerous because it's what Day represents. Day will also kill whoever hurts his people, but unlike Night, he might do it himself. When their people are hurt, Night has the motherly rage that leads her to destroying the person that did it. Day has that kind of possessive fixation of "only I can hurt them"

But damn, this is hella imaginative!! The Night's grief creatures sounds right out of any folk legend, I can totally see some ancient culture coming up with them, and the distinction between Day and Night is also very reminicent of mythology, and tbh I'm kinda glad to see that the one associated with darkness is not the bad one XD.

Are planning on writing a novel or something? Bc it's clear that you have put real thought into this! 👏

Just about in last month we had here the "usual" recurring row about:

1. how hard to filter out these type of stories;

2. how there are a shitton of tags to blacklist even if [and i repeat *IF*] the authors use the usual tags;

3. but often they don't;

4. and the best part when they also refuse to use readmores so you check out the tag of an interesting villain of a new show you like and the whole thing is full of uninteresting walls of text you've already should see nothing of because you had several good content filters in place... but all of those need the author to effin' tag properly.

It requires a disporpotionally-sized effort to avoid these type of stories, none of the usual methods for it work better than 75%, and actually this thing is one of the hardest genres to "not read" i've seen.

not to get into reality television but I think ep5 of street dance china 3 was really funny, like EVERYONE wants to go on yibo’s team because they’re like “I think yibo really knows what’s it’s like to be dancer” meanwhile yixing’s plans immediately fell apart because people didn’t like him on the other hand, Wallace Chung (Zhong Hanliang?) is just a nice guy so people were like “Sure, you’re so nice I’ll join your team!” and Jackson just did his own thing but Yixing was like “yeah! I’m confident!” should not have been bro

OP you're not overthinking things. This is an excellent post. A lot of the points you've made also ran through my mind when I watched the episode, especially the part about Athena. Athena from what we know of her from Greek mythologies, does have being the biggest protector of the status quo and maintaining the social hierarchies as one of her functions. And we've already seen evidence of her petty cruelty last episode from the punishment she exacted on Medusa, yet it still breaks, my heart to see her do the same thing to Annabeth, her daughter, even as upon reflection, that kind of disporpotionate, bizarre discipline makes perfect sense for her character. And we haven't even seen her yet.

Watching the new Percy Jackson episode, and while by no means is the show perfect, I do love how they updated the blending of Greek mythology and the American Gothic for social commentary.

What I mean is Echidna, the mother of monsters, is some respectable-looking vaguely southern white woman who is able to convince the police on the train that three kids shattered a train window and used those institutions to isolate the kids so she can target them and scare them for the chimera's hunt. The way that the police especially treat Annabeth. Now, as a young black girl, she has to know how to ask if they're getting arrested, and gets called out by the police for her tone.

And then, at the St. Louis Arch, we see Grover upset because of the museum, which is basically a monument to Manifest Destiny (literally, there's a shot where the words are in full display in the background). And while they say, "Grover is upset because he doesn't like it when people hurt animals," they explicitly depict America's colonization and destruction of indigenous communities as The Bad Thing. It adds another layer of flavor for the whole "Pan is missing" - it's not just about Climate Change. It's about the extermination of indigenous groups (the centaurs they saw on the train, the reminder that there used to be more of them until humans started killing them). They say "humans" are bad, but they're showing us Western/American colonizers.

Also, a rare yet interesting moment of conflict between Annabeth as a daughter of Athena and Grover as a Satyr. Annabeth insists that the museum's commodifying and glorifying of American colonization is "not what the arch is actually about, it's about architecture and math," but Athena is the goddess who protects social institutions and a patron goddess of the state, law, order, industry, and war. The Industrial Revolution and Western social institutions definitely contributed to colonialism; just saying. We also see in this episode that Athena can be arrogant and cruel - letting a monster go after her own daughter because she was embarrassed.

Anyway, idk. Maybe I'm overthinking this but these were the things that popped out to me on first watch, and now that I think about them more, I would love a continuation of these kinds of themes and tropes in future seasons, if we get them.

I complain about this every other day, but god can it be a real drag to never see any WLW ships on the dash. I do have some of my own I need to use more, so kettle black, but I really really wish they were half as common as other kinds of ships.

I think with Pokemon ( outside of our god-given SUMO anime ), there just really isn’t much interaction between female characters ! They’re always playing second-fiddle to the much more developed male ones, but I guess really I shouldn’t be getting too uppity about it. Ok, so about this, let me explain "war on drugs" to people who clearly dont research and wonder why it feels biased. it was based on almost openly harassing the black poor communities as they had drugs and used disporpotionate crime statistics to relate the two. To get the public to simpithies with police raids and harassment of poor black communities and to have a excuse to arrest them, what better then the subversion of the common image if regular black communities who like most communities where smoking weed. So if this interests u, do yourself a favor and instead of feeling what's going on, actually research what's going on and why, which includes history. Once ur done with that go to the history of operation barbarossa.

rich silicon valley fucks can make reality tv shows on netflix about smoking/cooking weed and nothing comes of it. Rich celebrities openly brag about smoking weed on every platform and nothing comes of it. Musical festivals are synonymous with smoking weed and using other drugs like hallucinogens but they’re never searched or raided by police. Meanwhile people below the poverty line selling weed so they can afford food/rent will get put in jail for a decade or more. I dunno how you can sincerely believe the “”war on drugs”” is anything other than a really poorly veiled propaganda campaign to hide what is just getting rid of poor people and/or using them for free prison slave labor lol

TID is disporpotionately a Will Herondale story, in which Jem's point of view and his perceptions of the events that take place in TID are missing. Readers only get to explore Jem through Tessa and Will's point of view, and it is clear that Tessa views Jem as a second choice. Whenever both boys are mentioned, Tessa's mind first goes to Will and then to Jem as a secondary thought.

Not to mention there is a parallel with Jem and Sidney Carton from A Tale of Two Cities, where he steps out of the way so Tessa can be with Will, the man she loves.

Also, in all other content where Jem is mentioned such as GoTSM, TLH, TMI, TDA, he is treated as a plot device to advance the story of the Herondales rather than explored as his own character.

Honestly, CC can keep saying "Tessa loves both Will and James equally" but it doesn't seem like it. CC doesn't write like it, especially since it's clear that she prefers Wessa (no matter what she says on her blog, she has to pretend she doesn't favor either ship to keep the fans "happy") since she has 2 trilogies dedicated to the couple and their children, and Jessa just gets side content. Honestly, I think Jem is such a sweet character and deserves more than washed up second hand experiences with Tessa who is going to keep spending her moments with Jem reminiscing over the relationship she had with Will.
