DC x ACOTAR // hound heist

You know, I really think Damian Wayne and Eris Vanserra would bond over their shared love of animals, especially dogs. Much like how I think Azriel Shadowsinger and Cassandra Cain would match each other's vibe 👌

Anyway, this made me happy to write; it's my treat for finishing that long Azris fic. Please enjoy!

Every companion owner, whether they are hound hoarders, cat curators, bird bosses or any other variation of animal amateur, knows that silence is the worst sound. Silence precedes doom… or, at least, the biggest mess Eris can possibly imagine. Likely a defiling of trash bins. Perhaps a raiding of the coops, but he would've heard them by now.

He leans out the window sill and whistles, but the sound is swallowed up by the moss swallowing the lower stone walls of the Forest House.

Fuck, this means he's going to have to go after them himself.

The hounds have their favourite haunts; twelve hounds means at least twelve different hiding places that account for their different personalities. If he's lucky, he'll find them together and heard them away from whatever nonsense they're up to.

He looks up to the highest point of the House, where smoke billows from their everfire. His hounds like to congregate around the open roof, snapping at the ashen air—who are they to deny free treats? Eris has to squint on this gray day to make sure he doesn't miss them against the dark clouds. Not a single one to be seen.

Strange. Very strange.

The firechickens are free of his hound's mischief, too. The attendant apologizes and Eris waves him off. His duty is to mind the chickens, not his dogs.

Further into the forest, Eris whistles for his pups. None appear.

Alright, now this has gone from strange to fucking concerning.

His dogs have always known to answer his call, and if not that, then the press of his heat out into the forest. Still. Nothing. Eris starts to regret having a fondness for smoke hounds because they leave no trail, not after the smoke has evaporated in their wake. It makes them the perfect hunters, especially as a pack.

"Tawny!" He shouts for the leader of his pack, the one who keeps the others in line when he's not around.

"Bella!" He calls for the most excitable one—the one who is most likely to appear at the thought of doing something, anything.

Eris widens his search from the forest house towards his secret cabin. It should've been the first place he checked, but its distance means that it's just more convenient for Eris to scour around his father's House first.

The cabin is a small one-bedroom wooden structure as far as Eris can build it from his father, but still within walking distance for his mother on the off chance that she would like a break. It has a small kitchen and a living room. It has a washroom that fits a tub. All the bare necessities. It isn't about luxury, it's about peace—and if this damned cabin wants to live up to its purpose, his dogs better fuckin' be in there.

The door swings open at the flick of his wrist, and he enters with the confidence of someone who owns the place. All twelve hounds sit with his back to him, their mouths parted and panting as they crane their necks to look at him. They seem surprised? To see him?

"The hell are all you doing here?"

Some tilt their head, confused—it's not their fault, they usually just follow—while others stare at Eris. Tawny turns to look up at the dark corner in the ceiling and two white eyes flicker open.

A caped creature lands on the ground silently, six apples tall (or something ridiculously small), and it glares at him from beneath its hood. Eris can make out no other feature, for the cape swallows the short thing whole and obscures any hint to what or who this is.

"Identify yourself. You're intruding in my home."

A smile creeps on the tiny terror's face. "Sick 'em boys."

The dogs look between Damian and Eris, and do absolutely nothing.

It's Eris' turn to smile. "Sick 'em, boys."

The hounds repeat the motion, tilting their head to understand what on earth is going on. Exactly none of them hold an interest in attacking one or the other, which, in Eris' opinion is bullshit.

"Doesn't matter. I can kill you all my own."

Eris holds out his hand, a flame igniting over each tip. His show of power is met with the metallic sound of a sword unsheathing. What will a sword do in the face of fire? Melt, probably.

The little thing tosses something in his direction, and he responds by shooting them out of the air with his flame. They explode, casting the entire room with suffocating smoke, but Eris grew up in this environment, he isn't deterred.

A beat of wings clears the room within a heartbeat. Eris knows those wings; his heart skips.

"Sorry," Azriel mumbles, appearing out of nowhere. "He's one of ours."

"Who's one of yours? Who's 'our's?"

A dark bat-like creature appears next to him, her mouth stitched shut and Eris yelps. He hadn't seen her there. Or heard her. She meets the other stranger head on, and ends up tucking the little thing under her arm, toting him away with a wave to the red-haired Faerie.

"What the hell is going on?!"

"Don't worry about it," Azriel nods.

"Those dogs are mine! Mine!" The hooded six-apples-tall thief shouts, and Eris realizes that it's just a boy.

"Who are these people?!"

look! headcanons nobody asked for!

One day, a floating city of unknown origins appears over Prythian. The seven High Lords send a small company of emissaries to investigate, and this company discovers one man. They announce themselves as the emissaries of the High Lords of Prythian, and ask for his identity.

THREE BRANCHING HEADCANONS

MY PREFERRED AU STILL SUPERMAN - Clark, sent here by some mission gone awry, panics and says he's the High Lord of Krypton, fully winging it. Either way, it's totally Barry and Speedforce things that landed him here. Or is it Mr. Mxyzptlk??? Or is this where the phantom zone sends people 😂

HIGH FAERIE VERSION - Kal-El, the High Lord of Krypton, has lived in the Hidden City for all his life. The Court of Krypton has been kept hidden because something, something magic, but I guess the secret's out and now they must all find a way to get along with one another.

LITTLE BIT OF THIS, LITTLE BIT OF THAT - The City was moved from the cosmos to Prythian with young Clark on it, adding Kryptonians to the mix of magical races on Prythian.

AESTHETICS

SUPERMAN IN PRYTHIAN

I like the idea of an AU where Clark appears alone, I think it would be really fun to see how interacts with each High Lord and each Court... which I will probably do in a separate post! (I was supposed to do chores...)

I also feel like being alone would add a really interesting dynamic; Clark can restart and be anyone he wants in this world, or he can carry the mantle he's built over the years.

One thing that jumps out is that magic is one of Superman's biggest weaknesses, so it'd be interesting to see how that would affect him. I always imagined Prythian as a lot more whimsical than the books, like having more suns and moons, so that would definitely affect him to. Maybe at different times of day, he is stronger or weaker.

CLARK/KAL-EL AS A HIGH FAERIE

If I had to make Clark a High Faerie and kick out all the Kryptonian lore, I think the idea of a Hidden City with Clark as the last of his race and finally being able to interact with the world would be so... fun to have him learn about everyone else and be so sweetly excited to just be... surrounded with people? He'd be awkward form growing up alone, too. Could make for some fantastic interactions.

Powers-wise, I do like the energy conversion (taking sunlight and turning it into something else). Although, I feel like that version of powers is closer to Tamaraneans (energy absorbtion), it would be cool if Clark could absorb energy and magic and transform it into something else or stockpile it in him to reinforce his own powers. I'd have to ponder about this a lot more.

Anyway, please enjoy my brainworms about this. I don't think these headcanon posts will have a set format. I don't have time to write a formal AU, and I think posts give me more liberty to ramble. I do think some characters, like Jason, would focus on his story because I can just see it.
