Okay, so I'm working on making a batfam OC, and I'm trying to figure out a timeline, problem is NO ONE KNOWS WHAT'S THE ACTUAL TIMELINE
i am so SO tired of the actual DC canon, and I wanted to ask if it will be weird to make my own version of canon?
and if I do it, should I post about it?
also, please drop the essential comics for DC if you can
thank you, random tumbler user

The (main) batfam age gaps (and other timeline things) in this blog's current DC canon:
First off, here are their birth years: Bruce (1997), Dick (2012), Jason (2017), Tim (2020), and Damian (2028).
Bruce and Dick - 15 years (he's Bruce's bio kid, but neither of them actually know. Bruce just had some.. questionable coping mechanisms for an underage kid.)
Bruce and Jason - 20 years, was previously 22 I think? Fun fact, Jason was the longest standing Robin!
Dick and Jason - 5 years, was previously 7. Sometimes 2 depending on the run.
Jason and Tim - 3 years, Tim was 12 when Jason was 15 (aka when he was kidnapped by the Joker in this blog's canon)
Tim and Damian - 8 years. Jason had only been Robin for 2 years when Damian was conceived.
Additional Robin (+ Bruce) timeline:
Bruce became Batman when he was 23 (in 2020) and was 25 when he first adopted Dick (2022), for reference.
Dick was Robin for 3 years. He started at 10 instead of 8 (the most common canon age for his parents' deaths), because I love me some good father-son parallels and Bruce was 10 when HIS parents died.
Jason was Robin from the age of 8 to the age of 15 (when his death was initially faked and Tim replaced him), which is 7 years. He died at 17 (2034) because I've taken pieces of Arkham Knight Jason for his story (he was stuck with Joker for 2 years, not just 1.)
Tim became Robin in 2032, when he was 12, and stayed Robin until Damian came along! Tim was 17 (and has stayed 17 since lol). Which is five years (though Steph did have a little few-month-long Robin moment in the middle). He then became Red Robin, of course! Though he had his own abandonment issues crisis about being replaced by someone "better" than him. He'd just settled into the idea of Bruce actually caring about him, y'know? Only for that all to be ripped away. But that's something for another post!
Damian became Robin when he was 9, in 2037, when Bruce was 40. He's still the current Robin because I haven't really gotten past Bruce being 45 in this blog's canon yet! Hardly any plans for the future! But I do have a few possible storylines for Damian in his teen years going on.
Jason went back to Gotham just a few months before Damian turned up - He'd already had a bit of fun (beating up Tim) but hadn't gotten his full plans in action yet! When Jason and Damian meet as Red Hood and Robin for the first time, Jason actually lights up with recognition. They knew eachother for a few years, in the League! Jason was a bit of a father figure to Damian for those years. I think it's rather sweet!
Okay, so this post is....... A little messy. I just needed a place to put all of this! Hopefully the other admins agree with this timeline and hopefully I didn't fuck any of it up..

DC Continuity Crash Course
Navigating the DC universe can be tricky, even for longtime fans. Knowing what is considered "canon" can be even trickier, especially when the present canon is constantly changing, but there is a main timeline comics generally follow. This guide will take you through the basics as well as define some terms you may frequently come across in the fandom.
The first thing fans should know is The Multiverse exists in DC continuity, meaning there are several different realities that may show up or be referenced in comics. Most of these realities receive an "Earth" designation, such as Earth-1 or Earth-12. The current DC canon takes place on Earth-0.
Now, wouldn't it be nice if we could stop there? Sigh. For better or for worse, DC loves reality altering events, and Earth-0 has experienced its fair share of them with the most critical ones being Crisis on Infinite Earths and Flashpoint.
Crisis on Infinite Earths (1986) was a multiversal event that effectively rebooted the timeline and began an era of Earth-0 called New Earth or Post-Crisis. Unless otherwise re-canonized through comics published in the Post-Crisis era, stories published prior to the event (dubbed Pre-Crisis) were no longer considered canon.
Flashpoint (2011) was an event that ended the New Earth timeline and began the Prime Earth timeline. As of today, this is the timeline Earth-0 is still currently in.
Prime Earth can be broken up into various branding eras or titles, each one fairly recognizable by characteristic logos being printed on the covers of single issues and graphic novels alike, but you can also identify them by publishing date.
The New 52 (2011) marks the beginning of Prime Earth. This was a controversial era of DC wherein several things from New Earth were retconned. Many characters' origin stories were revised, each to varying degrees.
Rebirth (2016) served as a soft "reboot" to the New 52 where several elements from New Earth were re-integrated into the current timeline (restoring many old and beloved origin stories/retconning poorly received New 52 origins) while still keeping many critical plot points from the New 52 canon.
Infinite Frontier (2021) continues directly from Rebirth. Rather than rebooting anything, it integrates some more elements of the New Earth timeline and leads directly into DC's current branding initiative: Dawn of DC.
As a reminder, not everything from Post-Crisis has been re-canonized with Rebirth and Infinite Frontier; this is a common misconception. Some events in these comics happen in a way that make it impossible for certain Post-Crisis stories to have happened. Likewise, not everything from New 52 has been retconned either. The specifics, unfortunately, are unique to each character, and truly the best understanding of them is achieved through reading the comics. The DC Wiki page, however, generally does a good job explaining a character's origins and their current canon. They also typically list retcons and inconsistencies in the character's page notes.
But wait! I hear people say all the time. What about stories that don't fit the branding, like Injustice, DC vs. Vampires, or Wayne Family Adventures? Aren't they still DC?
Just because something is published by DC (or in association with DC) does not mean the story is canon. In fact, DC frequently publishes non-canon stories (often called Elseworlds) to tell a story they otherwise can't in the main timeline. These stories are usually fairly easy to identify, especially if you're familiar with the main comics. They may take the characters to a different setting, change their origin stories, change their personalities, change their relationships, give them a new family or children– really the possibilities are endless. But the bottom line is, because these are non-canon stories, any events or (mis)characterizations you see in these do not apply to their mainstream counterparts. I realize this probably seems intuitive, but I have seen enough people conflate the two to the point I feel I have to clarify.

I do love how Jon Kent is one of those things which utterly fucks over the DC timeline.
Like. Jon cannot have been born before Reign of the Supermen without making some major retcons to Death and to Lois's deal throughout that story.
Jon Kent was 10 before any time warping shenanigans got involved.
Kon El was Superman/Superboy at the time of Reign (meaning he appeared at this time).
Kon El has to have been around for at least ten years.
Unless we make major edits to the timeline Kon and YJ all have to have been around for around 10 years.
Kon and YJ all have to be in their 20s at least.

The AU I’m working on has made me fall into DC Comics Timeline Hell. Specifically, the Batfamily’s ages. If Tim is three when Dick is eight, their age difference is five years. And Jason is two years older than Tim, so only three years younger than Dick. But since Jason is introduced at twelve when Dick is already Nightwing and at the very least seventeen, I've been working on the assumption that they had a gap of five or six years! Because they do in canon! But they also don’t in canon! What the heck, DC? Is Dick fifteen when he gets his first little brother? Because he wasn't when he left Gotham before that! What’s the age gap? What is it? They have to age at the same rate, dammit, that’s how time works! TELL ME! *getting dragged into Arkham* TELL MEEEEEEEE

For the Jason training time, I actually have an opinion that is very out there and will never ever be canon. So, you know how Jason originally traveled the world, getting different teachers and killing a bunch of them, then there’s the New 52 and Rebirth where he instead spends time with the All-Caste entirely with maybe one or two other teachers. I say that due to the nature of the All-Caste and time, that Jason originally traveled the world for 2 years, then at the very end of that, he went the the Acres of all and spent 2 more years with them. But. Time can flow differently there. And Jason, to the outside world, spent no time there at all, thus, in my mind, he gets the best of both worlds. If that makes sense.
YES YES YES
THAT'S WHERE I READ IT FROM
It does make sense and they NEVER kept that in other comics or the timeline!
I hope whoever takes on to write Jason Todd in the future, puts this little tidbit of information in the actual story, and NOT completely fuck him up.

DCXDP AU where Batman is one of the few survivors of the apocalypse from The Ultimate Enemy.
Danny meets Batman when trapped in the future and is shocked that Batman doesn't think he is too evil to be saved. Together they make a plan to stop his other self. Before Danny leaves, Batman gives him a secret code and tells him that if he needs help, he should go find Bruce Wayne.
Well Danny doesn't really plan on doing that, but after some event (his family dies again, a bad ghost reveal, the GIW, ect.) he finds himself running to Gotham.
Danny gets to Wayne Manor, gives the code word and says, "this is going to sound crazy, but I met Batman in the post apocalypse via time travel, and he told me to find you if I need help."
To Danny's surprise everyone immediately believes him. The kids take one look at him and know they have a new sibling.

"So, handling your archnemesis," Danny starts. The room falls quiet, heads slowly turning to look at the man as he writes the words on the chalkboard. When finished, the characters somehow both messy and neat at once, Danny places the chalk back down and claps his hands.
"I typically call them fruitloops. Often they're in a better position than you are- older, richer, more powerful. They may have some sort of status that protects them when facing the public."
Tim wondered where Dick was right now, and if he was laughing. His brain was lagging like a computer as he tried to process what Danny was saying, and how seriously a few of his fellow teen vigilantes were taking this.
"Some of their more common tactics are-" the chalk was picked back up, and Danny writes as he speaks.
"Manipulation, isolation, conditioning, and empathy."
MICE.
Tim stares at the board, and quietly slips put his phone.
-What have I done to deserve this.
Enjoy your lessons Tim-
His head thumps against the desk. Conner leans over, gives him a pat on the shoulder but returns to taking notes as Danny goes on to explain the conditioning tactic.

Always Favors You
Another Sibling Danny and Jason idea!!
"Are you Jason Peter Todd?!" demanded a deep and commanding tone from the strange glowing being in front of them.
All the Bats stiffened and tensed, no doubt gearing up for a fight against the being that somehow knew Red Hood's full name.
Jason, Red Hood, decided to put on a brave front despite no doubt cursing in his head and wondering how the heck did this thing know his full freaking name.
"Whose asking." he snarled out, his hands twitching for his gun when the huge glowing knight with purple flames coming out of his helmet and cape, who was riding on a nightmare looking horse while they all had been in the cave going over tonight's patrol.
The Knight didn't seemed bothered by his response nor did he even seem to care or flinch when Batman made his own demand on 'Why was he there and who was he' or when Damian unsheathed his sword and pointed it towards him. Instead the strange glowing Knight reached to it side and pulled out... A glowing scroll? Huh. (Also he completely unnerved everyone in the room when the Knight didn't even react when Batman had tossed a Baterang when he reached for his side)
The Knight opened the scroll and spoke clearly with purpose.
"Jason Peter Todd,
You are hereby invited as a special guest of honor to the crowning of our future King of the Infinite Realms.
Daniel Phantom, once Daniel Jackson Fenton, and once Daniel Austen Todd.
Prince of the Infinite Realms, the Keeper of Balance, The Peacekeeping Halfa, the Defeater of the Tyrant King Pariah Dark, The Great One, Youngest of the Ancients, Ancient of Space, The Bridge between Life and Death.
You, the half-brother of our King, have been given the highest of honors for your past actions and will be given housing and food in the Realms and Phantom's Keep, for the week long event. Personal servants and attendants will be at your disposal and a seamstress will be on hand to tailor make your attire for the Coronation.
Signed: Clockwork. Ancient of Time. Watcher of the Infinite Timeline. Kronos. Mentor and Adviser.
PS: I shall have Fright Knight ("Me" the Knight bluntly said for a second) leave this scroll along with a personal one for you from Daniel to read over and once you make up your mind sign the bottom of the scroll.
I do hope in time you will pick the right choice Jason Todd, we of the Infinite Realms would like to reward you for your actions. After all, if you hadn't gotten young Daniel away from your father that night all those years ago, we would never had gained our Prince nor be free from our once Tyrant King.
Ah, one more thing.
The Infinite Realms will always favor you Jason."
Jason felt like he couldn't breath as Fright Knight? Rolled up the scroll, pulled a letter from his side, and held out the two items for him to take.

Vampire Misunderstanding
So! Danny got adopted by Bruce Wayne, but he doesn't know that Bruce is the Batman. He is just supernaturally oblivious to all things Batman related going on in the House.
But he does notice that Bruce leaves home a lot at night, that he doesn't like to go out in the day and often has his parties at night, and once or twice he's caught Bruce with a bit if blood still splattered on his cheek.
So he comes to the only plausible conclusion. Bruce is a Vampire.
He starts trying to hint at the fact that he knows, but doesn't want to just go out and say it. What if Bruce reacts negatively to him knowing? He's dealt with enough Supernatural Beings to know that they don't like other people (and especially other supernatural beings) intruding on their lives.
So Danny decided to subtly hint at it.
He started asking questions like "So hypothetically, how would you deal with having a Garlic Allergy in Gotham?" Or "So if you had very sensitive skin that could sunburn extremely easily, how much cloud cover would you need to go outside?" And "So what's your opinion on a High-Iron Diet?"
Basically just tossing out questions and trying to Guage Bruce's reaction.
He thinks he's doing a good job!
...
Bruce is certain that he has adopted a Vampire.
Danny is a good kid, but he has a few oddities that are hard to ignore.
For one, his skin is constantly Ice Cold, but he never seens to be bothered by it. As if he was an Undead that didn't require Body Heat anymore.
He also seems to like Hanging out in the Graveyard outside, and when asked about it he says that he is comforted by the place. Just like the Vampires he has met in the past, who feel comfortable when surrounded by Death.
And of course the biggest reason for suspicion is the fact that Danny seems to be hinting at it to him.
He keeps asking stuff like "How would you deal with a Garlic Allergy in Gotham?", probably trying to hint that he is a Vampire who can't eat Garlic, or asking about easy to sunburn skin, saying that he is probably not a Daywalker.
Bruce hopes Danny will just come clean about it soon, he doesn't want to intrude upon the kid when he is so obviously nervous about how he will react.

Future Son????
It has been a while since I have done an original prompt. So DCxDP prompt #2
Danny gets into a fight with Impulse/Bart about Bart changing the timeline messing things up for Danny and effectively erasing his family, because the change made it so Maddie and Jack never got together. But because of Clockwork sending him on a mission to the past while Bart changed the timeline and the medallion Dan had phased into Danny he remembers the old timeline. Also he has access to his powers but for some reason can’t change into ghost form.
This fight happens in front of the rest of the young justice team. And Nightwing was coming there to teach a training lesson and over hears half of what Danny is shouting.
From Dick’s point of view there is a black haired, blue eyed kid with powers that are suspiciously like a Tamuraneans, yelling at Bart about losing his family because his parents never got together. Also Dick and Kori had recently broken up. (Feel free to make up a reason.)
Due to a misunderstanding Dick is going to help his time displaced “son” adjust to the new reality.
