first day of intro to business class today! i did my readings (lots of capitalist bootlicking which i am approaching with an anthropological mindset), made a discussion post, did my homework for the week, and took the chapter quiz (very poorly worded questions which actually directly caused me to get one wrong)
so far so good.
#keeping it fun and funky fresh#personal#school stories#i'm gonna be getting a certificate in hr management assuming everything goes according to plan#i am very cautiously and deliberately easing in to classes. just taking the one course this semester. i'm so worried about it (:#for those who have NOT been around the ol' blog for a decade+ i did manage to eke out a bachelor's back then#and it literally almost killed me#but also going from entry-level customer service job to entry-level customer service job with huge gaps in between#is killing me too#and now i'm wayyy more disabled than i was the last time i successfully got a job. so i'm trying something drastic#it'll be fine! this will be fine.

The circumstances surrounding Cassius' "death" (disappearance) were incredibly muddled and hard to follow even for the people who were involved... It all happened late at night in the middle of a snowstorm, visibility was low, an apparently unrelated party (Cockerel) getting a broken nose, and an apparent thousand other coincidences leading to the death of both Cassius and his father. The issue: only the body of Christopher Turever Jr. - Cassius' father - was recovered! This led to a strange cooperation between Edgar and Cassandra - the new "co-"proprietor of the local newspaper (though she had been managing the place for a while up to this point) - aiming to cover up whatever really happened in the favour of pushing a narrative that Cassius was the man to die that day. It was an easier story to push, yes, Cassius' apparent depression was visibly worsening, as opposed to the apparently stable Christopher... What if the people cried murder!? Not to mention Cassius (once) was a valued member of the community - imagine the paper sales!...
anyway here's a funny image where neither of them can know if they'll get away with it since neither of them can see Christopher's face ... I do imagine they succeed but I don't know if it's really THAT important? It's fun to consider though. Edgar and Cassandra get along surprisingly well, but maybe it was just the circumstance. They stopped talking after the funeral was officially past...
#men when they consider the unimportant FIRE FIRE FIRE#i was reading about funeral customs and i just couldnt stop thinking about it. did they cover up cassius' dea. did they manage to#is there a stone in the cemetery with his name on it#but also there's a nonzero chance that they both sort of 'fessed up' and went 'uuuuuuh well haha looks like this WASNT cassius thats so#strange??? :)??? ahaha can you change the death certificate and stuff hahaaaa...'#but i like the idea that cassius is still technically alive but there is a tombstone with his name on it dated 4 years prior. it's.....funn#christopher mode#cassandra mode#edgar mode#Ididnt wanna think of a new name and christos WOULD just name his kid after himself. so. LOL#christopher jr looks weird to me though so idk christopher = father and christos = grandfather. not that its rlly that important theyre DEA#idk if it was clear but the newspaper is like a family thing. christos opened that. so fun fact

I think my dream job would be buying fabric and sewing supplies for a small business or like a quilt charity I love buying fabric and notions so so much but the older I get the less I care to do like. Any sewing.
#chit chat#let me buy fabric and patterns for 8 hours a day i would be so fucking good at it#tbh i actually think i wouldn’t mind sewing so much as a job but it's just not fun anymore as a hobby#i couldn't do it as a freelance gig either it would have to be like factory work#put me on that damn machine do not make me talk to customers#lol that's half of why i ended up with a forklift certification cuz the driver does not have to talk to the customer#except when the customer jumps the gate and walks up to you while you're grabbing a bunk of lumber 15 ft in the air and then#DEMANDS that you help him on aisle 17#like hey. if i tip my forks wrong or even lower them slightly you will die under several thousand pounds of wood. gtfo.#i need to go read a book or something im thinking about work way too much on my day off

Got so frustrated at my boss not trusting or believing me about absolutely anything that I had to have a little post shift angry cry in the break room and IN THAT MOMENT my work bestie walked in even tho it was their day off cause they left their glasses and I got to rant to someone. Friends are beautiful and the universe sent me one the exact second they were needed
#‘hey boss do we get any kind of physical certification from the supplier for our sterling sliver? the 925 stamp is too small#for a lot of older customers to read and I’m tired of getting into polite arguments with people over it#I think it would help sales if they didn’t just have to take my word for it’#boss: ‘huh. I’VE never not been believed’#it was already 5 minutes past when I was supposed to leave. when I say I IMMEDIATELY clocked out#1) not even a token answer to my question just flat out ‘I don’t believe you/must be your fault’#2) can we think of ANY REASON. the tone of interaction might be different. between the 50+ y.o. male OWNER OF TGE BUSINESS#and the 20something percieved female salesperson

Unimportant fact worth knowing is that brands cannot use the OU sign without getting into serious legal trouble because it is legally a trademark. Random places can definitely call themselves Kosher or have their own hechshers etc but you will very very very rarely see anyone use OU if they don’t have a legal right to because they will get sued to hell and back for it.
I wonder if the same applies to halal certifications, it's something I rarely - if ever - see in my part of the country, which is why it was really surprising to me to see both, and kind of nice as well
#ask#but very interesting regardless!#i do trust that the certifications are legit - especially when its like OU - but i do wonder if the same applies to halal#and seeing as i am not muslim amd don't observe that particular custom i'm not knowledgeable#i did use that OU as an example but i know that plenty of companies may have their own symbols which i probably should have said LOL#i'm bad with wprds which seems interesting considering that i like writing and like written forms of self-expression#and typos are my friend <3#in my research about the certifications for kosher i somehow did not read that part even though... it's on the wikipedia. huh. 💀

I have a question about your tags if that's cool! You were a captioner for phone calls, I've been thinking about doing this. Did you like it? If you're comfortable responding what was your official job title? I've been coming up empty-handed searching for work like this in canada, but maybe i'm searching wrong?
hi! i had mixed feelings on it lol a lot of the bad stuff was more w the company itself like micromanaging issues and stuff
this might be more info than u wanted but here we go lol:
the way we captioned the phone calls was mostly through voice recognition plus some macros on the screen/keyboard and occasional typing
later a newer version of the software was implemented that would auto-generate the captions and we would just correct them as they came up on the screen
they assured us that this wouldn't be replacing us but then laid off literal thousands of employees lol
the pay was also not great it started at 11 dollars an hour iirc but at least hourly and not by the minute
most of the conversations were p mundane but sometimes you'd have to caption some pretty messed up stuff from like a lot of truly vile racist bs and on occasion someone actively threatening to harm themselves/others. we weren't allowed to do anything/report anything
my job title was captioning assistant
also i tried looking up caption phone calls in canada and from what i saw it looks like captioned telephone services aren't currently available in canada? here's an article on it (there's also a link to a petition to bring captioned telephone services to canada)
i did find this tho it's not phone calls and you'd need to be/get CART certified if u aren't already but the pay is typically wayyy better and less likely to replaced by ai
#i worry that transcription/captioning is a dying field w AI around#but if u do want to continue work in captioning/transcription jobs that require CART certification definitely seems like the way to go#like providing captions for lectures would be such a good job imo#my job captioning phone calls was v thankless tbh#it was better than customer service at least since there was no direct communication w customers
