Observation: in the 1800s we built homages to Ancient Greek culture and its contribution to learning, philosophy, justice, and democracy. But in the 2000s we’ve built homages like The Creation Museum and The Ark Encounter, convincing people these Bronze Age stories really did happen.
How long will this stand as Tennessee becomes more Bible Belt-y?

At the Discovery Center, I located copia in terms of intensity and quantity of sensory evidence. I categorize these sensory strategies as rotation, immersion, and interruption. Rotation arises when museumgoers are encouraged to turn from one piece of information to another. Immersion occurs when visitors are surrounded by various pieces of sensory information at the same time. Interruption is deployed when the museum space is punctured by noises or presences that draw attention away from some areas and redirect it to others. All three direct and redirect museumgoers’ attention to focus on certain noises, sights, and experiences over others. As forms of copia, these strategies work to amplify creationism’s importance and create an abundance of evidence to give weight to creationism in the manufactured controversy over human origins. While the full article has many more examples, I will briefly discuss one example of each of the three sensory strategies.

honestly, the people bitching about an objectively insane episode of wwdits are SO BORING. it's just a silly little comedy about some idiot vampires that live together and commit atrocities in new york. like what is so difficult to comprehend about that.
of course lazslo would create horrifying animal lab experiments that can talk that guillermo has to take care of.
of course nandor and colin are besties.
of course nadja makes 50 dunkin runs for a crazy lady.
it's just a weird show that is outrageous and funny and sometimes carries an emotional wallop. it's not fucking rocket science.

I had cousins over for the 4th of July, and their kids were wearing dinosaur shirts so I started to talk with them about dinosaurs (bc I’ve got a big fossil collection and know a lot and want to get the kids interested in science). …And my cousins immediately go in on how they just went to the creation museum and absolutely loved the dinosaur murals there, how realistic and interesting! (They’re really strict southern baptists). I wanted to cry lol
If I had nothing to lose, I’d go around the country burning those museums to the ground. I really and truly would.

Wow! This book sounds like a must-read!
Befitting a scholar who has written on how UFO cults make use of biblical themes, Thomas does a wonderful job of noting how both the Creation Museum and Ark Encounter range far beyond the Bible to use rhetoric and arguments that draw from cryptozoology and pseudoarcheology, both of which are pseudosciences that claim that a conspiracy on the part of mainstream scientists has kept us from seeing the truth about the animal past and the human past.

i am genuinely scared of what would happen if the magic tablet from natm ended up in my house somehow. i have 5+ gallons of origami frogs in my house. i drew angry faces on a decent amount of them.
papercuts, man. death by papercuts from a thousand origami frogs

I’m your first patron Saint of creation! I think about Frankenstein all the time so I think your quiz worked.
!!!! whoo!!! gonna be so honest i was stressed out watching the quiz stats for the first few hours there cause the stats for creation sat at zero percent for so long... but. y'know. i think that creation has lower stats cause it requires you to make some of the brighter and more positive choices and it's not always clear where any positives are in that quiz even If you are a naturally bright and optimistic person... anyway. delightful to see all the people getting the creation result cause they are the Only people who are actively happy with the result that they got lmao

Do you love art a lot?
Yes. Art is the best thing humanity has to offer (all of its forms, not only drawing/painting but also sculpting, songwriting, poetry, theater, cinema I can keep going but I think you get it). I love looking at art, I love creating art. It's one of the most human things there is, it's so sad it's threatened by AI.
