Buy Dirt
Hey, hey, hey! Coming to you with another lyrics entry. Come check it out on my blog. You might want to add this song to your playlist, who knows? Don't forget to subscribe and follow me on my socials xxx
You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy dirt… I really like this song for some reason that I cannot fathom. It is just one of those songs that provide the feeling of warmth, comfort, and coziness when you are listening to it. The tune can get stuck in your head and gosh, the metaphor and allusion in the lyrics!! If you have not listened to it yet, go to Youtube or any music streaming service…

i have done...an absolute deep dive into blues and folk music tonight. it was 100% one of those blink and three hours have passed type of deals. worth it though.
#be warned if you go into the tags i will explain how this all came up. educational but long!#so it started with two questions. mostly because i live in the ozarks i wanted to know and secondly i like music if you haven't caught on#(btw i am so giving you guys the quick and easy version if you are reading this at all)#anyway. the first question was 'why does the ozarks have such a country influence but also bluegrass but also blues but also folk but al-'#because while i grew up in stl i am now like. living living in the ozarks right? right. and i for sure can see how we are the like...#the little sibling of the appalachian mountains. and i thought it was just cause aw cute mini mountains (highlands people)#but instead its cause there were settlers from appalachia! which makes a ton of sense now seeing influences and culture etc etc#so we cleared up that. we know why the ozarks is the way it is (or at least part of it)#btw anyone who says branson is a “true reflection” of the ozarks is out of their damn minds.#that shit is tourist central and just drives me up the wall. they are playing a parody of themselves is the best way to describe it#caricature maybe??? point is. “h'yuck h'yuck we're the country jubilee!” is not uhhhh ozarks and never was?#like it was but they took it a step further. so. anyway#can you tell i'm fixated on this right now? moving on! question 2 was quite literally 'what genre is this song'#it's 'fault line' by black rebel motorcycle club (which i highly suggest everyone listen to)#but i was like hmmm very bluesy harmonica but just fingerpicking guitar so that's more folksy#so! i went on a deep dive of what technically considers blues blues and what folk is. and guess what! the ozarks play into this too#because! the thing is that the ozarks is weird. st louis is technically not in the ozarks but on the outskirts. and stl is influenced by...#the mississippi delta! therefore blues music which led to rock and roll etc#(that's a whole other tangent for another day on stl and blues and rock and roll)#but anyway it makes sense that once you have folks from stl area coming down to the ozarks then you also have that combo of...#mississippi delta and appalachia music. so then we go back to “fault line” right?#i have declared it folk mostly because it definitely doesn't follow traditional blues progression or call and response.#so anyway. deep dive tonight was basically what is this song's genre and how does that wrap into where i live!#which also. brmc is like...usually listed as a “rock” band from san francisco which hey! awesome.#but like. from the songs i've heard and especially causing me to do this deep dive...they do not strike me as a californian band#music is cool! regions are cool! culture is cool! i just like to see how it's all spread out ya know?#if you've read this far gold star! i hope you've learned something tonight from reading the ramblings of a fixated person#i'm rambling again aren't i

I’ve decided I’m not the reason why I can’t write or having any good ideas because the problem is clearly my music
#there’s just no good music at the moment#it’s definitely not the mental illness#now why would it be that#if anyone has any music suggestions I will take anything because the country music is not working

I've gotta hand it to NSLU's international marketing team, they managed to take a concept as cute and innocent as "The Princess is in danger! Wait — Luigi's gonna save her this time?! 😱" and turn it into one of the most genuinely unsettling pieces of media to come out of the franchise.
This doesn't read as "Luigi's filling in for Mario this time around!", this reads as "Luigi finally snaps and murders his brother in cold blood, forcing Peach to watch before turning the blade on her as well." It's beautiful.
#this is an actual commercial that actually aired on actual television in certain countries (japan and france at least but possibly more?)#I left the remainder of the commercial in tact because there's something so wonderfully jarring about it#you're treated to a horrifying scene... followed by upbeat music and fun gameplay clips#it needs to be preserved by the library of congress#okay but I wanna know who voiced peach here because she did GOOD (the accent suggests a japanese VA but nothing's ever been confirmed...)#super mario bros#smb#new super luigi u#nslu

Hi hi! If you ever do see this I recommend listening to Savages by that handsome devil, it's a great song and I think you'll like it! :D
Oh I've heard that one before! It used to be one of a friend's favorite songs. It's got a groovy beat!
#i like my wacky sounding songs every now and then but it's not something I'd consider my type#but. a + to the singer because i cannnnnnoooot stand songs with higher or nasally voices#and his voice is on the deeper side so it's not ear grating <3 <3#by the way i always love when people send me song or band suggestions!!!!!#i am admittedly stagnant right now in my exploration of music#i like goth rock and metal and country best but I'll take a listen to anything if it's suggested :3

just trying to find good alt bands to listen to but i gotta do research on all them to make sure theyre not fucking racist sexist homophobic antisemitic or a bunch of predators🧍🏻♀️
#its so easy to not be those things i wish celebrities could be fucking normal#thought i found one but ig the lead singer is like a 'i just like dark humor' type of person :/#which isnt the worst of the worst but unfortunate nonetheless#anyway im taking suggestions i really like wallows. daisy the great. the driver era. and AJR rn (yes i like ajr dont @ me)#ik thats a wide range of alt genres but idrk how to categorize my music taste lmao#i guess like folksy/indie/electric alt rock and pop idfk#also i think Alternative music needs more names bc i feel like apple categorizes anything into alt if its not pop country or rock lol

Hi! Can I ask you about the history of the Wagoner's Lad? I'm a fan of Peter & Gordon their song Pretty Mary, but only today, while listening to some Peggy Seeger, I realised that it's a different pov adaptation of that ballad!
Suggested Songs
youtube
"Pretty Mary" Peter & Gordon, 1964
Like you said, "Pretty Mary" is a gender-bent version of the Traditional song "The Wagoner's Lad", which was first documented in 1907 by Cecil Sharp. Here's the fun part- if you are familiar with folk song collector Cecil Sharp and American folk songs, you might expect that it was first collected somewhere in the UK or perhaps Ireland if it was spicy. However, the song was first collected in Appalachia! Despite focusing on English folk songs, Cecil Sharp also collected and recorded folk songs in the Appalachia.
It was first published in "English Folk Songs from the Southern Appalachians" in 1917. and was first recorded in 1926 by Kelly Harrell as "My horses ain't Hungry".
Another Interesting part of this song is that many of its verses have ended up in the song "On Top of Old Smokey", another song collected by Cecil Sharp in Appalachia in 1916.
This makes it hard to tell the two songs apart, as they've become tangled up with each other. Both songs even contain the same Roud folk song number: 414. "On Top of Old Smokey" was first recorded in 1925 by George Reneau. Old Smokey probably refers to the Great Smoky Mountain range that exists between Tenessee and North Carolina.
This Song, throughout its history, has been adapted and recorded over and over again, here's just a few examples.
Pretty Nancy by Jean Ritchie 1970s (?) The Wagoner's Lad by the Kossoy Sisters 1956 My Horses Ain't Hungry by Mike Seeger 1977 On Top of Old Smokey by Gene Autry 1952 Fare You Well Polly by Pete Seeger, 1954 Rye Whiskey by Woody Guthrie 1940 Goodbye Old Paint by Colter Wall 2021
and there are many many many more.
Thanks for the recommendation! I hope this was helpful

@pocket-size-cthulhu
I'm making a separate post bc I kind of sent myself down a rabbit hole. I wanna clarify that I am a Big Hozier Fan and that most country music is a different lyrical ballpark entirely bc of the nature of the genre. (If I had to describe it I'd say it's more literal and storytelling than the whole, like, in-the-woods poetry thing hozier's got going on.)
Anyway I tried to find some that have the same kind of poetry to them or at least aren't about dirt roads and, like, alcoholism. (this is very hard to do there are so many songs about drowning your sorrows in alcohol. I think maybe that's a bad thing but what do I know about songwriting)
Zach Bryan - Something in the Orange
Ryan Bingham - Wolves
Deana Carter - Strawberry Wine
Chris Stapleton - Tennessee Whiskey
Brooks and Dunn - Neon Moon
Uncle Lucius - Keep The Wolves Away
Juice Newton - Angel of the Morning
Johnny Cash - God's Gonna Cut You Down
The Band Perry - All Your Life
Lee Ann Womack - I Hope You Dance
Josh Turner - Would You Go With Me
I also have a few that I think just have generally clever lyrics that you probably won't enjoy very much if you don't like country music:
Rodney Atkins - If You're Going Through Hell
Sugarland - It Happens
Jessica Andrews - Who I Am
Billy Currington - People are crazy
Blake Shelton - Honeybee
Tim McGraw - Just to See You Smile
#text post#if you dont like any of these that is also fine#this is more about proving country music is about more than hot women and beer and trucks even if thats all ur gonna hear on the radio lol#also i appreciate that u asked for suggestions I love forcing music on others bc I steal other people's song tastes all the time#big reason why I'm on a punk music kick rn#and why I was super into dsbm the past few months#trying to get back into pop to spice up my regular playlist but the farthest I've gone is like. chance the rapper and kanye so getting there#i digress#I think especially the something in the orange will appeal to a hozier fan#most of these are straight picked for having pretty lyrics a la poetry so a lot of them are slow and sad#not on purpose tho thats just how country music is#also theres something to be said about how hozier is like catholic symbolism where country music is mostly protestant#so theres a lot of god gave me you the devil's out to get me instead of youre the light of my life and my sole source of divinity

Thanks @logicgunn for the tag.
Relationship status: Been with my Partner 27 years.
Favourite colour: Black
Song stuck in my head: Fishin’ in the Dark/Down in the Boondocks by Home Free. I am obsessed with these guys atm
Last song i listened to: When She Says Baby by Jason Aldean (tried to get the Home Free earworm out of my head. Didn’t work)
3 favourite foods: Cheese, macaroni cheese and Lychees
Last thing i googled: best and worst tourist attractions in Oklahoma
Dream trip: Currently planning a tour of the best and worst things to see in the US. From East to West. This all started as a joke with the Big Blue Bug in Rhode Island and getting more serious lol. See above answer.
Anything i want right now: Hah the instant money to pay for the above trip, better mental health and someone to make a nice cup of Darjeeling (my other half would make me one but I did say a nice cup. No one tell him I said that or I’ll never get any made for me again🤫)
Tagging: @colonelshepparrrrd @lightthewaybackhome @cassiope25 and anyone else who wants to do this. I’ve lost track of who does and doesn’t like these so no pressure.
#tag games#me and my current obsession with country#my preferred music genre is Metal honestly#any suggestions for this trip are always welcome
