worst way to start my new year, thanks. i have a lot of things to say about these companies but i'm tired and just keeping it focused to the pin side of things for this one. do not ever buy pins from these companies, literally ALL of them are stolen from small artists like me. if you want to buy enamel pins, check out etsy, and artist's personal websites and shops! (though even Etsy has some bootleg pins that ship straight from china, so tread carefully…)
Every pin I've designed is, thus far, EXCLUSIVE to my etsy. if you find it anywhere else, it's been ripped off! and once these stupid bootlegs pop up, it's basically a never ending game of whack-a-mole trying to get them all taken down...
#psa#art theft#pin theft#aliexpress#shein#wish#temu#deltarune#the bootleg pin is just over an inch tall. do you know how BAD this design looks at that size?? i'd know. i tested it.#they didn't even use the black nickel of the pin for the black parts of the design. and the listing says copper for some reason. what.#some people never even get their designs taken down. its really sad#so i might just have to deal with bootleg queens out there forever :( i hope nobody confuses the ripoffs for the real thing....#my pin is so much nicer! its almost two inches big and it has two posts on the back so it doesn't spin#because spinning pins are the bane of my existence#im out here working my ass off out of my bedroom in my parents place trying to make a living and here come these pricks#i watermarked all my listing photos exactly so they Couldn't steal my fucking pictures so at least there's that#my new years is just full of bad luck so far i hope this isn't a bad omen#if my registration isn't accepted by the aliexpress copyright department I'm SOL and this will just. stay up i guess#i'm sad#bootleggers kys

False had been mining for copper for... hours. Days? Time gets a little bit weird down in the deeps, and she remembered something that someone (a reflective surface on a clock face: still her face, but not an outfit she'd ever worn before) had told her once. Something an old friend had told them. It's wise to keep a stopwatch in the mines, he'd said, because if you don't you'll forget time existed at all pretty quick.
False hadn't brought a stopwatch.
She'd been mining copper for a while.
Several shulkers in her pockets and one extra hoisted onto her shoulder, she made her ascent with a small sigh and a slight wince. Her knees were NOT going to appreciate that later.
Her base was still right where she'd left it, every little trinket still in place and nothing touched as far as she could tell. A little clockwork copper raven lay sideways on her desk, innards splayed outwards and stomach open to the elements. Gears, springs, miniature pistons. Outside, the evening- morning? no, definitely evening sun shone low and heavy through her high windows. She checked her communicator, refreshed the chat. Just a lot of logging-out messages, the last one Pix from two weeks ago. All the ones before were even older than that.
False felt slight goosebumps raising on her biceps.
She hurriedly rubbed them back to warmth. They were probably just on vacation or something. It was fine. She stepped outside. The air was warm and sweet, high spring in the North, and she decided right then and there that she'd pull up a chair and just watch the sun set or something. Gods knew she needed the vitamin D.
Dragging a dusty folding chair outside (really, everything inside of her base was dusty, how long had she been down there??), False beat the dirt off one side, flipped it over, and did the same there, breaking spiderwebs with her bare hands and a wrinkle of the nose. Thankfully, the straps of fabric seemed intact and the joints moved smoothly, if not with a breath of resistance.
She set the chair down on the ground and sat down carefully on it, testing her weight, then leaned back and folded her hands over her stomach. The weather WAS nice, and she wondered why anyone would take a vacation when the world right here was just as picturesque.
False sat there a little while in perfect repose, body warmed by the waning sunlight, before suddenly snatching at her communicator next to her and reading the chat logs over again. Pixlriffs left the game. TheOrionSound left the game. GeminiTay left the game. MythicalSausage left the game. SmallishBeans left the game. Everyone else was listed there too, and before that there were a couple of Warden deaths. Currently, False was the only one online.
Of course, she didn't really have anywhere else to go. Other people had their worlds and their other servers and their own projects to attend to. False was just... here. Always had been, and she supposed she always would be. She couldn't really imagine herself anywhere else, anyways. Where would she go? A singleplayer world? No, that would drive her mad. MCC? Laughable. Hermitcraft? No, no, they'd know something was wrong. They'd give her questions she wouldn't be able to answer. False had seen the squints Gem had given her when she thought she wasn't looking, had seen how Pix had raised an eyebrow minutely when first raising her. False was smart enough to know that something was up. She was also smart enough to not press the matter.
Still, she did suppose it was a little strange that nobody had logged on in what, a fortnight? Even during the crossover, people still dropped in regularly to work on things quietly or get some trade deals on when the cameras were off. Even Oli had still dropped by once when he was supposedly on hiatus, and that had only lasted a few days.
Yeah. Okay. Maybe more than a little weird, but it was fine, False was like the queen of weird. Gods above, her secrets had secrets! She knew about as much about herself as she did her machines, which is to say, a lot but not everything. Not the full histories. If she read the stories told in the weathering of the copper she had crafted as her veneer, what would she read there?
Would her blood shine a bright verdigris as it was shed by the shining horrible truth?
Not the healthiest relationship to have with yourself and your history, probably, but False was also the queen of dealing the hands she was given. And the queen of this empty town, population her. Dealing with other probably empty by now towns.
Well damn, she couldn't quite ignore the fact that she'd been left behind now, could she?
With a sigh, False set down her communicator. She'd deal with that once she figured out how long she'd been down mining. Given that it was well into spring by now, judging by the trees, it'd been at least a month.
Wait, a month?
She must have made a mistake. There was no way that-
False's communicator beeped. She picked it up.
Pixlriffs joined the game.
She breathed a sigh of relief. Okay. Someone was here besides her, at least. And she was even on friendly terms with him! Well. Probably. They'd exchanged copper like, twice. False was pretty sure that counted.
<FalseSymmetry> hey <Pixlriffs> hello? <FalseSymmetry> dude where were you it's been two weeks <Pixlriffs> It's been two weeks? <FalseSymmetry> yeah nobody's logged on at all <FalseSymmetry> come to my base? <Pixlriffs> Where are you?
Again, those goosebumps. (Gods, they were getting annoying.) False frowned. It was a bit weird that Pix didn't remember where her base was, but then again he hadn't been over here in a while and he hadn't even been on the server since two weeks ago. She had to cut him some slack. With a shrug, False copied her coordinates and sent them into chat.
<Pixlriffs> wow that's a long way from where I am right now <FalseSymmetry> yeah lol <Pixlriffs> Okay, I'll be right over. Might be a minute though <FalseSymmetry> that's ok <FalseSymmetry> take your time
False put her communicator back down onto the ground besides her and waited, folding her arms again. The sun crept slowly down, eye-searing yellow fading to a more manageable red that stained the clouds purple and pinks and subtly ever-changing hues of grey. The sun dipped below the horizon. The stars came out. Pix was still not there.
False was considering asking if he was alright or something when she saw a human-shaped figure step into view in the glow of the torches she had set on her bridge. She sat up a little straighter in her chair and waved, getting up and walking forwards to meet him. "Hey," she said as Pix got closer into view. "It's been... a minute."
The face was Pixl's, but lined and worn. He looked like, ten years older. Instead of the button-down navy shirt and brown cargo pants he always wore, he was instead draped in loose, thin sand-colored robes that were bordered by a gradient reminiscent of the colors of copper. A brown shirt could be glimpsed beneath. His pants were grey and similarly loose, and instead of hiking boots he wore strapped leather sandals. False looked him up and down quickly. "Had a rough vacation?"
"Vacation?" he asked, sounding confused. His hair was down, and the grey streaks in it were more pronounced than False had noticed before. Beard too. What the hell had he been up to?
"Yeah," said False. "You've been gone for like, two weeks. You look like you aged ten years. I like the outfit, though. It's very," she waved her hand, "swoosh-y."
"Two weeks?" asked Pix, definitely sounding confused and now concerned. "I think it's been longer than two weeks."
"How long have you been out, then?" asked False.
"A month or two maybe? Maybe longer. I sort of lost track of the time, unfortunately."
"Oh, I feel that," said False, trying to ignore the knot that was tying itself oh so neatly in her stomach. "I've been mining for a while. Getting copper, y'know?" She thumbed backwards. "It takes a while."
"That it does," said Pix. His eyebrows furrowed, and he walked a little bit closer to False. "Do I know you?"
The knot pulled itself tight with a snap, and despite the warmth of the evening False was suddenly very cold. "Yeah," she said. "I- I've been trading you copper."
"I don't remember seeing you anywhere before this, though," said Pix now. "You're sure?"
False lied through her teeth. "I'm sure."
Pix stepped back and looked around, arms folded. "Okay, because I am 99% certain that I have never seen this place before in my life. Where- what's your name again? Where are we?"
"I'm False," she said, backing up a little. "This- this isn't funny anymore, Pix. Everyone's been gone for two weeks and they haven't come back yet. They've never done that before. I thought that you of all people would know what was going on-"
"False," Pix repeated, urgently now. Brown eyes met teal. "Where are we?"
"You're in Cogsmeade, and this is the Empires server," said False. "But you know that already. What are you getting at? Is this your idea of a prank?"
"It's not," said Pix. "This isn't Empires."
"What do you mean it isn't Empires? This is the server. You've been playing on it for a year and a half."
"This isn't the same place," said Pix, gesturing around him. "There's no Rivendell, no Mythlands, no Grimlands, none of that. This isn't the Empires I remember. I've never met you, and you've never met- well, not me me anyways. Something's up here."
False stood there silently for a little while, goosebumps returning to her arms. She got the feeling that they would be staying there for a while. The wind had turned cold, and somewhere behind her she could see that copper raven, still flayed, still unfinished. Time. She'd run out of time. She thought she'd had enough before the season ended- she'd run out of time.
"Do you want to go inside?" she asked.
"Sure."

Md finale thoughts/spoilers but I to quite like the progression of realization from ‘is the absolute solver spreading itself to have more hosts?’ to ‘oh cyn-solver isn’t spreading the virus on purpose’ to ‘cyn-solver is actively hunting down other solver drones that aren’t her own Disassembler “worker bees” (as seen with Nori’s notes in e7)’.
it makes sense that she’s hunting the others down- they’re not potential backup hosts, they’re rival “queens”, and I say that very much in the eusocial insect way. She always knew there was a possibility that another solver drone could become the new primary host as soon as she was able to possess the Unethical Test Subjects (trademarked) via sharing the Absolute Solver. Kind of a double edged blade? More eyes and hands to possess and work through by possessing them, but always with the possibility one of the “maiden queens” would win out in a physical confrontation over the metaphorical crown. (Which is exactly what happened when V and N stopped doing their murder jobs).
Anyway drones is bugs and always has been i fuckin knew it
#noris notes in e7 is PARTLY why i ended hand that feeds in the way it did (which is. still to hilarious to me-#-that it aligns with the canon ending for uzi like lmao?? i wasn’t even trying to theorize)#i say PARTLY bc i’ve been on board with ‘solver drones are eusocial hive queens but without the reproductive thing rlly-#-and disassembly drones are worker bees/wasps’ train since like. episode 4 ish?#cyn-solver def got complacent tho after all the solver test subjects but one were killed by her worker bees tho#coming down physically to copper 9 to ‘FINE ILL DO IT MYSELF’ about Uzi and Doll was a Mistake lol#murder drones#bañana post#murder drones spoilers#re: hand that feeds my excuse for why tessa still has yellow eyes when they should be purple since uzi makes the dd frame#is that she was already part of cyn-solvers ‘network’#nori of course stays purple

I'm glad Fields of Mistria is at least a little more lenient with how you gain relationship w characters than Stardew was, bc as much as I love March as a character something I don't love about these kinds of games is the way their arcs/behaviour doesn't progress at all unless you're actively giving them gifts and talking to them every day (neither of which March deserves at all btw). Just rubs me the wrong way that the solution to jerk characters in these games is always to placate and rehab thier behaviour instead of the narrative/your accomplishments working towards that instead.
Idk. I think a lot of ppl have no problem kissing up to tsundere types in games but I'm like entirely too autistic and too "it's the principle of the matter" to be able to? If March is supposed to develop from being antagonistic and rude then it feels shitty that it comes from undeserved, infinite olive-branches and not just the natural progression of time/story? So at least I can mostly ignore him, tho as a consequence it takes fucking ages to increase his hearts passively that way. You can rebuff and scold him in the 2 heart event and I hope they carry that "I'm not taking your stupid ass bullshit, March" energy for the future hearts too. Because I'm out here infrastructure/farm-maxing, I'll spoil him w conversation and gifts when he figures his shit out on his own lol and we get on neutral ground.
Also I just generally don't like how abrupt his change towards you is on Friday nights. I get it's supposed to be comedic but when he's randomly only nice to you when he's drunk, and he's the only character who's Friday night interactions don't seem to have any bearing on his disposition or dialogue with you after (yet everyone else references their Friday night interactions w you and each other) it makes it feel almost non-canonical as opposed to a hidden quirk of his.
Also idk, "only nice when drunk" isnt the incentive to befriend him the devs think it is lol
#fields of mistria#fields of mistria march#that last part especially#anyway im in fall year 1 and finally got his 2 heart event bc ive been ignoring the fuck out if him p much exclusively#and i already had an infused silver hoe by the time he gifted me the copper one and i felt not a shred of guilt selling that fcking lmao#my personal ick towards engaging w him makes the rare moments i do so much funnier in a “marchs rare olive branches are too little too late#way#also a hoe? the most underutilized tool i have in my roster okay march very helpful#i used that thing once and its been in storage since but thanks for the second worse hoe bestieee#also i know im in the extreme minority of ppl that have a hard time w this specific ludonarrative dissonance so forgive me#for being a wet blanket

Mad Scientist AU: Chapter Two
“You’re not doing this right,” Nexus hissed for the millionth time.
“I don’t understand,” Copper protested. “What am I supposed to do?”
“Dig deep,” Nexus growled, throwing his hands into the air with an exasperated expression. “Pull that power out of the dormant section of your mind it’s stuck in.”
“I’m trying,” Copper whined, yet again trying to pull something out of her that was not there. “My mind is just rust and dust.”
“Not your mind!” Nexus scolded. “Your soul. What’s between your code.”
She tried harder this time, eyes squeezing shut. She strangled every space of air she could get her hands on, looking.
She felt a hand on her shoulder, a cooling sensation settling her overworked fans.
“You’re trying too hard,” the culprit said with a frown. “You’re repelling it. The power should wash over you naturally. Like this.”
Copper felt light for a moment as energy jittered through her bones. Nexus had given her a taste of the power. She shook her head and tried again, looking through herself with a calm demeanor.
She felt something and grasped onto it.
The magic squirmed beneath her grasp, unnatural and unfit.
“Let it seep into you,” Nexus instructed, the devil on her shoulder. “It’ll feel invigorating once you let it in.”
Copper took a deep breath and relaxed her stiff shoulders. She shivered as the power wrapped around her like a weightless snake. It may not be physical, but she could feel it there. Purple. Nexus wasn’t lying: it felt addicting. She was energized for the first time in a long while, trembling with the same amount of excitement five energy drinks would bring a normal person.
“There, you go,” Nexus applauded, a cruel smile on his face. “Fire. Make fire in your palms.”
Copper guided magic to her hands until enough was bundled together that she could form something tangible. She melded the material into magenta flames, watching them dance across her arm.
Nexus looked impressed. “Perfect. That’s enough for today. Go show Solstice what you learned.”
Copper nodded excitedly, looking like a schoolchild who learned their first curse word.
She rushed off to Dark Sun’s office.
Nexus sank into a chair with an exhausted sigh, running a hand down his face. Purple cracks lined his arms.
“I’m taking too much in,” he whispered, chiding himself. “It’ll take over me instead of the other way around if I don’t—“
Nexus shook his head. He’ll deal with that issue later. For now, all he had to do was put his pieces in place and let the other players make their moves.
He just needed to stay in control for long enough.
Copper passed by the wither storm’s domain as she walked to Solstice’s office, purple staining the lower half of her eyes. The beast flicked its wings, inquiring about her unexpected energetic facial expression.
“Nexus taught me dark star power today,” Copper told the creature, fawning over the exhilaration the magic gave her. Her voice was light, like a feather tainted with black ink. “I made fire!”
The wither storm purred, its horns pulsating in approval.
“Soon enough, I’ll be able to do that project Nexus planned for me! He’ll never try to throw me away then,” Copper planned with a foolishly optimistic smile.
The wither storm nodded in confirmation, not wanting to lose its friend so soon. It stretched its claws, the glass-like appendages clicking on the stone ground.
“Oh!” Copper exclaimed, remembering what she was doing. “I need to go tell Solstice!”
The wither storm chuckled lowly as she scurried off, trotting with power flowing through her.
“I feel amazing,” Copper whispered, incredulous. She landed in front of Dark Sun’s abode, knocking enthusiastically.
“Come in,” the latter announced with a bored expression, adjusting his rays.
Copper practically bounced into the room, her hat falling onto the ground. She apologized sheepishly and bent down to pick it up and return it to the proper place on her head.
“Nexus taught me dark star power!” Copper exclaimed, rambling on and on about how it felt and what she accomplished.
Dark Sun looked mildly interested. She took that as a success.
“Congratulations,” he said smoothly. Coolly. “Nexus is a good teacher. You’ll enjoy the lessons, I’m sure.”
He clicked his pen and returned to writing, gesturing for Copper to leave. She got the message and ran off, ecstatic.
(Really short one today, but I like how it came out! I have not edited it… Tagging people who showed interest: @bittyfromquotev @amethsys )

la noche eterna
leon s. kennedy/luis serra, other gen | E/M | 45k words | finished
If anyone asked Leon whether getting laid in an grossly extravagant gothic-era European castle was anywhere near the top of his priorities list, even prior to the Baby Eagle rescue mission, he’d laugh in their face. ///
Even if he did fantasize about mildly exibitionistic sexual encounters in extravagant Spanish castles, in none of these scenarios would Leon have thought to find himself cuddling with the other person.
[part 1 - love full of fire] /// [part 2 - even if it hurts] /// [part 3 - those three words] /// [part 4 - when Eden was lost] /// [part 5 - make my world stop] /// [part 6 - sweetness and decay]

drabble of skele!reader x Copper (Horrorfell sans)
Part One
Ugh, this night was dragging on and on. You were so tired, yet your sister had pestered you and pestered you until you caved. She’d dragged you out for a night of drinking, fun and time with her boyfriend and his brothers.
Red Serif was a renowned playboy, yet whenever you saw him with your sister, that title melted away little by little. He was utterly smitten with her. His bright red eyelights going fuzzy and large anytime he looked at her and when wasn’t he? His younger brother, Edge, was loudly complaining about the quality of the food beside him, seemingly unbothered as his brother paid half attention. Absent-mindedly murmuring, “uh huh.” Every few sentences as he watched your sister on stage.
Her sweet voice echoing through the mic as she sung along to the music, she’d tried to drag you into it. Her infectious excitement almost got you on stage.
But when you’d scanned the room just before saying yes to the karaoke contest, you’d clammed up. Instead using the excuse, you still had some of your drink left before she rolled her eyelights and dropped it.
She grinned at Red from her highlighted spot and his fanged maw grinned back.
“You really like her, huh?” Your voice just loud enough to be heard over the music, Red seemed to startle, entranced by your sister.
He looked at you, a friendly smile on his face, small beads of red tinted sweat appeared on his skull. He didn’t know that you knew how desperate he was to impress not only your sister, but you. Confiding in your younger sibling about how important family was to him and as you being the eldest, felt that your ‘approval’ was important.
His clawed fingers clenched around the glass, letting out a small chuckle. You felt your eyebrows pinch and his chuckle died quicker then hot coal dumped into water.
“er- uh! yer, i do, really- i do.” He thumbed at the collar of his shirt, pulling it away from his sternum then smoothing it back down, his jacket was absent; wrapped around the hips of your still singing sister. You could see his eyelights flick over your shoulder to her, incapable of pulling his gaze away for more then a second.
His brothers, cousins- you didn’t know, you’d hardly met them beyond a few encounters with dropping your sister off at Red’s home, all lingered somewhere around the club.
You noticed Noir come up to the bar to converse with Edge, who seemed to realise he’d lost his brothers attention, especially when you caught him scowling down at his elder brother before turning away.
You pulled your gaze away from his and he relaxed a fraction, a flicker of a memory of your sister surfaced.
“Opal- your eye contact is SO intense.”
You hummed, looking over at your sister as your fingers paused the braids you were making with your scarf around your head, your white skull disappearing under the silky gold fabric.
“Y’know monsters and humans get nerves over eye contact, yet you’re pinning them down like a small animal anytime you talk to them.” She leant against your dresser; half dressed for the day out you both had planned. Her phalanges tapped a rhythm against her ilium.
“Well,” guilty you searched for an excuse reason for your intense behaviour and came up short. Instead, you gnawed on your tongue, your fingers resuming the braiding.
She raised her eyebrows, a look of ‘gotcha’ triumphing her expression, “Red especially!” Her white eyelights tracked the movements of your phalanges as you worked on the braid.
That’s where you frowned, pinning your sister with a look, “you know perfectly well why I’m hard on him.” She shot you her own look and you huffed, realising you’d done exactly what she’d just accused you of.
She rolled her eyes, pushing her hip off the dresser to walk behind you, her fingers taking over the work of braiding as you watched her in the mirror. “I know, I know,” she soothed, herself mainly, you guessed, “he is trying! A-and so am I.” She stuttered out.
“Birdy-” you started.
She cut you off, “Opalll.” She near whined out, “give him a chance? He’s so sweet, he got me this necklace I’ve been eyeing the past month.” She shrugged a shoulder, gesturing to the tear drop pearl necklace hanging around her neck, resting beautifully on her sternum.
“Just, the eye contact, its pretty intense.” She added on, you snorted, rolling your eyelights playfully as she finished the first braid.
“I can’t help it.” You replied, your hand curling as you rubbed the underside of your jaw, your hand moving down to adjust the gold chain around your neck. The bright gold glinted in the warm light of your room; the offset of your warm toned jewellery compared by the silver accents your sister wore.
You both enjoyed wearing different coloured scarfs around your heads, styling the long fabric into looks to match your design, you usually chose to braid the fabric. It was trendy, joining in on hairstyling was a tad bit difficult as skeletons.
She hummed as she gathered your scarf into sections, “you don’t have to mask around them, y’know?” Her voice taking a softer tone, one that made your eye twitch uncomfortably.
“Yeah…” You sighed out, looking down at your crossed legs, tucked up and onto your stool.
You’d been shocked, yet comforted, when you’d been diagnosed as autistic. It was weird, out of your teen years and sitting by yourself in the doctor’s office as he went through the diagnoses, what it all meant, what they could do.
Your eye had twitched again when he explained that there wasn’t a ‘cure’ for it.
You weren’t sick. Or ill, or broken or-
“Hey! All done.” Your sisters cheery voice broke through your thoughts, her hands tucking in a few stray flying pieces of fabric as she finished.
You smiled at her in the mirror, fixing your shirt to pull higher up your neck, moving the braids over your shoulders and off your sensitive bones.
“Thanks birdy,” you stood, smiling down at her.
She smiled back, but the little twinkle in her eyelights had you pausing. Her smile morphed into a gremlin smirk, her arms wrapping around your torso before you could dodge her.
“Ugh, okay,” you groaned, your arms awkwardly lifting into the air as she poked her tongue up at you. You tolerated it, for the period she deemed she must ‘hug’ you, showing her love, or whatever, ugh.
Your bones prickled as she let go, “thanks,” she whispered, smoothing down your rumpled clothes as she stepped back out of your bubble.
“Hrm,” you grunted, giving her a side eye as you pulled on your shoes, “you needed it,” was all you said before you ushered her to go and get ready.
Your hand clenched around the sweating glass you were drinking from, you didn’t really like it, whatever it was. Your sister had hailed down the bartender and ordered two of the same, the music rumbling too loudly for you to catch it before he was sauntering off.
Your flat look was met by a giggle from your sister.
The same flat look that now graced your face as Red sweat beside you, looking for words to fill the gap you’d dug.
“she’s real sweet, tha kindest- an’ I mean it, girl i ‘eva met.” He surprised you by placing a hand on your forearm, your bones prickled. But for the sake of your sister, you didn’t flick his hand off.
You glanced at him out the corner of your eye, he wasn’t looking at you, his eyelights fuzzy as he gazed at your sister. “she’s ain’t scared o’ much, darin’ fer someone so small.” You hummed at that, your finger wiping away some of the condensation on the side of the glass. “her laugh is infectious, she cracks jokes better then me! even boss laughs.”
Your lips twitched up as you listened, your soul softening. You didn’t notice how he’d looked back at you, catching something you didn’t hear.
“she’s helpin’ us branch out, discover new things, explorin’ and all that. i ain’t neva met someone so bright as ‘er, she’s like a damn star.” His hand moved to your shoulder, your eyelights flicked to it as he continued, “and i’m real grateful yer given me a chance with ‘er. yer sister, she’s near everythin’ to me.”
Something ached within you, the love that poured freely from his mouth, so openly enthralled with Birdy that you could feel it.
“Red! Opal!” Your sisters voice cut into the lull of silence between you both as you absorbed his words.
She easily hopped into Red’s open arms, his hand leaving your shoulder to catch her much smaller body. His sharp teeth pressed against the top of her head, nuzzling softly.
She smiled up at him, her skull flushed from singing and the alcohol she was slamming down. She’d already made it through a handful of drinks as you nursed your first.
You looked at your sister, her head tilted to glance at you, a silent question present. You softened and slowly nodded.
She squeaked and grappled you into a hug, Red startled as did you, but he was quick to recover, his large arm wrapping around you to pull you in. The two of them embraced you as you froze, an awkward grimace of a smile on your face as you half stood half sat during their hug.
“Ohhh! You big goober!” Birdy’s voice cut over the music, she squeezed her face into yours, having pulled you down to do so. Red pressed another nuzzling kiss to her skull, his fuzzy eyelights looked to you.
You nearly jumped when his hand landed on your head, affectionately rubbing your scarf-wrapped head as Birdy continued to coo into your shared hug.
“BROTHER, WHY ARE YOU SMOTHERING YOUR DATEMATE AND HER SKELETON SIBLING?” Edge’s voice was your ticket out, squawking with embarrassment you prise yourself out of their arms.
Hopping back up onto your stool as you smooth yourself out, the shared loud laughter of Birdy and Red making your embarrassment grow. You shot her a withering glare, causing her to choke on her laugh and look away.
Even Red cowed at the look on your face, Edge merely blinked before his loud voice started again, “WELL, NOIR FOUND A BOOTH FOR AS ALL TO SIT IN, THEY EXPANDED IT SO THE REST OF US COULD ALL JOIN IN THE SAME ONE.”
Birdy clapped her hands, “perfect! Are we able to order from the table?”
Red stood from his stool, his hand loosely placed on her hip as Edge answered, “YES, THEY HAVE THIS WEIRD APP THINGY,” his voice disappeared under the music as he led your sister and Red away, all of them disappearing quickly into the sea of humans and monsters.
Without their voices or the distraction of you watching your sister, the heavy beat of the music filled your ears. The deep bass felt like it was attempting to vibrate the bones of your body away from you.
Your hands clenched around the glass, some small part of you wanted to go after them, but they didn’t ask you to come.
You were left with your dilemma, do you follow? Do you stay? Isn’t it too awkward now, trailing after them like a lost puppy, hanging onto the shirt of your sister like a lifeline in the club?
Nerves crept up on you like a shadow, keeping your rooted to the bar as if your drink was the anchor keeping you there. Watching the figure of your sister disappear into the crowd like the beam of the lighthouse fading in sea fog.
You pulled your gaze from the crowd, the prickle of anxiety dancing over your skin as you stared wide-eyed at your still not finished drink.
No one seemed to bother you for a bit, monsters and humans alike giving you a small berth of space.
Not until a figure shadowed you from the strobing lights of the club, you hadn’t noticed for a moment. Not until you tilted the glass, half considering downing it to get it over with so you could order something else, and the sweat that had gathered on the glass was hardly noticeable.
The bright lights didn’t reach you; something was blocking them. You looked over your shoulder.
Someone.
Probably one of the largest monsters you’d ever seen was standing behind you, you blinked as you recognised him, Copper. Red’s eldest cousin, you’d caught his disappearing form a few times when you’d gone to Red’s huge home. But he’d never stuck around, seemingly just walking around a corner whenever you were there.
You’d summed it up to him maybe not liking humans, or maybe you made him nervous? Your sister had reassured you that maybe he was busy, sharing a secretive look with her boyfriend as you mentioned it.
You’d dropped it after the handful of times happening, really just summing it up that he didn’t like you. His cousins, Edge, Noir, Rus had all been friendly, happy to meet you as the sister of Red’s girlfriend.
Copper stared down at you his one dark red eyelight looked to small as he did, his empty socket half lidded. It gave him a mixed expression, yet it was the first time you’d seen him so up close. The crack that trailed up from his open socket was, to put it plain, nasty. The jagged, aggressive looking hole in the top of his skull was hard to notice from your seated position, but even then, this skeleton towered over everyone in the club.
What mostly caught your gaze was the golden false jaw he had; the pointed shark-like teeth that lined it glinted almost threateningly in the shadowed light he casted.
Both large wounds made you feel sick, but you swallowed passed it, your eyelights dragging away to look him over. His large, huge, maroon jacket was unzipped, revealing the cream sweater underneath. What fascinated you was the black fur lined hoodie that framed his head like a lion’s mane. The dark fabric of his jeans stretched around the swell of his thighs.
Dear stars.
His thigh was mid-level with the bar top. You gulped silently, if you lifted your arms, you could rest your elbows against the bar top whilst you stood. Even with your tad extra height.
He shifted, eyelight breaking away from yours as he sat down in the stool. From the panicked expressions of the bartenders, you all thought the same thing, would that hold him??
The stool creaked as he sat, sinking pathetically under his weight. He blinked, at least he looked a tad embarrassed as he avoided the now grumpy looks of the staff. His arm rested up on the tabletop, his presence added to the berth everyone already gave you, this side of the bar now basically empty.
You didn’t notice, to busy staring and blinking owlishly up at the giant skeleton.
“don’t… like your… drink?”
You flushed, his voice was sinfully deep, a baritone so many octaves below your own that he easily rivalled the bass of the music. It felt inferior to even consider the bass deep now that you had heard Coppers voice.
He quirked an eyebrow and you bit back a squeak when you realised, you’d just been staring at him and letting him watch your face grow hotter and hotter by the moment.
“Not really,” your lips pulled, an awkward smile on your face.
His shoulders seemed to relax a smidge, a tightness you hadn’t noticed in the corners of his sockets reducing slightly as you replied. “so, what… do… you like?” Each of his words seemed carefully picked, as if he was plucking each of them from a book to cut out and glue together.
It was an effort you realised, for him to talk. Something eased in you, there wasn’t a sense of overwhelming dread as you responded, you didn’t realise that the fear of saying something wrong had disappeared.
“Sweeter drinks, this one’s- ehh, a bit to hard for my taste.” He snorted at your response, his huge, clawed hand lifting to gesture the bartender over.
You blinked, “um! Do you-” fuck, you internally thought, attempting to grapple yourself enough to spit out your sentence, “Elderflower and apple!”
The bartender gave you an odd look.
Shit, shit, shit.
“Do you have anything with Elderflower and apple? V-vodka, by chance?”
She perked up as she finally caught what you were poorly attempting to pass along, “yep! Want me to mix that up for you now?”
“Yes- yes please.” You grinded out, your phalanges squeezing the glass you currently had tight.
The bartender turned to Copper, “anything for you, sir?”
He half glanced at her, “same thing.” She nodded, disappearing down the bar to start mixing them for you both.
“Oh- you don’t have to get the same thing as me!” you jumped in, fuck, you hated feeling like this. Swimming into these interactions, unknown monsters, even worse, he was a hot and unknown monster!
He smirked, the metal gold jaw twisting up with the expression, you chalked it up to magic for the solid metal to be able to shift like that, “s’alright treat… i’d like… ta try it.”
