ykw i was just thinking about? idk if this is lowkey niche or whatever but like people not being very supportive of yn’s wins in lucky girl syndrome made me think about the 2022 women’s figure skating olympics podium moment when anna shcherbikova won and she was just seen at the kiss and cry alone because everyone else was comforting alexandra trusova and she just looked so defeated because in a moment where she should’ve been celebrated she was all alone 🥲

i’ve never seen that personally but it does mirror yn’s first race win. it was mostly her boyfriend (at the time), her family and paul (her race engineer) who were celebrating behind the cameras with her. did it hurt? yes. but as her father once said in an interview ‘yn works the best when she’s been pushed to the limit, when she’s a little humiliated. she has this incredible way of turning setbacks into fuel to push herself harder. she thrives when the odds are against her.’

she came back even stronger in the next race and won that too.

One thing I LOVE about legend yn is just how realistic her story is. I'm so glad you didn't make her this pushover who is sweet and kind of a p*ssy (mind my language) but somehow always gets podiums like in other fics I've read where it gets very Mary Sue. She gets annoying FAST and you just want her to actually get some real problems.

I also like how she makes enemies on the grid, in press conferences, among other people who aren't just hating on her just because. She's ACTUALLY aggressive which obviously causes problems with others. Because in alot of other fics she's like beloved, always getting away with things, EVERYONE loves her, which is just impossible.

So THANK YOU for finally making yn an actual character who happens to be badass rather than just a cardboard cutout of 'badass'.

thank you! i think mary sue characters are so boring that it gets tiresome to read, so i try to make women who have personality. she isn’t an angel and people have very real reasons to dislike her but the misogyny almost always overshadows it. it’s hard for her to be seen as just a driver. so that causes a bit of resentment which causes her to act out.

also i wanted it to be very clear that she puts herself first. i know a lot of people wanted her to mentor younger drivers or have a romance with the other drivers (mark doesn’t count. it was barely more than a one night stand), but that wasn’t realistic to me. this was a woman who clawed her way to the top in a sport which wanted her to fail. they set her up to fail. why would she want to give them more of her time? why should she need to? also i know a lot of people might see her with a driver as a power couple but more would let that overshadow her career and she hasn’t worked that hard to let a relationship have that much power.

And what I particularly like abt legend!yn is that it’s very realistic. Her backstory is something that would’ve happened like not everyone liking her, them making awful comments and everybody shaming her bc of the boyfriends. It so well written and the character has so much depth and layers and a great backstory that it completely traps you in her storyline
