Lifetime Stew is so much darker in hindsight.

Sinclair and Don Quixote both get it, and it’s specifically *Lust*, not *Gluttony*, despite being food-themed. (Although Gluttony in Limbus terms is basically Greed, and Lust very broadly refers to “desire” for things that aren’t material).

So, Lifetime Stew is based on the fable of Stone Soup, wherein a man managed to feed his whole village by bringing each together with a different ingredient, to make a soup that would last forever. He just kept telling each person in the town square, “All it needs is one more ingredient,” and everyone just kept adding to it. Is the gist of it.

Sinclair and Don have voice lines that more or less imply the same thing - the Abnormality (Basilisoup) just wants everyone to try its delicious soup! Cute, silly concept, right?

So what do Sinclair and Don Quixote have in common?

(SPOILERS beyond this point! You’ve been warned)

In Canto 3, Sinclair recalls that once his mother, father, and sister all received full-body prosthetics, they no longer had a need to eat. The table was set and food was placed only for him. It’s one of the things he found so especially heartbreaking, that he was the only one left in his family who could still eat food. It’s such a core memory that it’s plastered on the window-wall of his cell for his base E.G.O., four roboticized humans sitting at the table, with no food present.

He desperately misses getting to share meals with his family.

And in La ManchaLand, the Bloodfiends have been starved of blood for the past 200 years, barely sustaining themselves on hemobars that don’t satisfy them. They can *live* without subsisting on human blood, but they’re utterly miserable doing so. The only one of the First Kindred’s clan who escaped such a fate was of course, Sancho, though she’d long forgotten she is a Bloodfiend, Faust says she still craves blood. She’d been in effect, the only Bloodfiend allowed to sate her cravings, while the rest of her kin starved. Being the only Bloodfiend able to escape their fate was so traumatic for Sancho that she wanted to forget everything about herself.

In other words, Basilisoup/Lifetime Stew is about “the joy of sharing a meal with family,” something both Sinclair and Don Quixote desperately wish for.

Her wheelchair would match her outfit and she would decorate her wheels to coordinate!

She would have a skirt, not too long that it would possibly get caught in the wheels, but also not too short that it wouldn’t cover anything (seriously rainbow high dolls are so exposed when they sit, also pants don’t work when the dolls sit)

As an avid "break my spine at 90mph" roller coaster enjoyer I was kinda put out by Jenny taking a pot shot at Six Flags in the opening moments of her new Star Wars Hotel video but the distinction between Amusement Park and Theme Park felt fair and I kinda just let it go.

4 hours later I realize that the entire thesis of the video rests upon that sentiment. If Disney are price locking the theme part of the theme parks then they're basically transforming into themed malls with a couple of tame fairground rides. That's pretty dang inexcusable. Disney Parks are going to cut costs until the point of which Jenny's opening barb at Six Flags will be a *compliment* in comparison... and that's inexcusable.

Don Sancho Quixote: As much as I hate reminiscing on La Mancha Land after...everything, I'm surprised that none of you said anything overly incriminating about Dulcinea's Area. It is weird to think back on that I had to sing her song for the Parade, but she was always pretty quiet and Father wanted me to liven up the show in one way or another, so...yeah. Even if I have centuries of experience both in and out of the City, second-hand embarrassment seems like something I'll have to adjust to now that I have a clearer head.

Canto I: Abnos have a theme of "transformation," where they act in stages you need to disarm (heh) to fully get through (the Calendar's 'dormant' phase where you can only attack the Masked Dolls, Ebony Queen's vines you have to detangle, the Golden Apple's first phase before it unleashes its mass of maggots)

Canto II: Abnos are never fought directly, instead have a theme of enslavement/possession. What you fight instead are its 'minions' (Become Strong has the augmented robots, Pink Shoes has possessed corpses and robots, Baba Yaga has the frozen neighbors), only Pink Shoes is properly "neutralized"

Canto III: We technically never see a "straight" Abnormality, instead what are fought are human Inquisitors using EGO suits often Corroded. Kromer is a *weird* case as she is (probably) a human who behaves mechanically like an Abnormality (her lack of SP gauge and what *should* be either manifesting EGO or Distorting, while giving indication of neither)

Canto IV: Abnos all have a theme around tears/sadness/water; So That No One Will Cry is an obvious one just from its name; Brazen Bull who is always seeking water to relieve its suffering; Fairy Gentleman who offers you a glass of Fairy Wine; Shock Centipede, who is either given electric shocks or dropped in a tank of water; and Drifting Fox, the abandoned mutt caught in the rain, with only ragged umbrellas that can't keep it dry.

Canto V: Abnos have a theme around "miniboss sidequests," the main entity being surrounded by targets you have to kill first before you can properly fight the main target. Ambling Pearl has the Slime you have to attack so it can't 'eat' to boost its strength; Skin Prophet has its candles you have to light so that it can see you; Dream-Devouring Siltcurrent has the Flotsam you have to break both to breathe and to have it charge into.

Canto VI: There are no Abnormalities here this is just Heathcliff working out his childhood trauma and relationship problems.

I really enjoy the logo for the substance it's so simple yet effective. the egg yolks & balls of clay. two halves of a whole with one emerging from the other. and maybe this is me reading too much into it but the shape evokes the fast forward button from a remote control in a way you could read as foreshadowing

ngl despite how much I love art that follows awful people in bad situations, I think my favourite theme in mouthwashing has gotta be the ways in which blue collar jobs not only involve intense amounts of physical labour but also mental and emotional labour, especially in the face of an uncaring and supposedly familial corporate sheen. like it's surface level, but it's good and it's real.

Theory: Why only some people understand Dante

aka The Little Prince metaphors haunts me yet again

Idk how credible this is but I just had a realisation in my Limbus server so I'm going to share.

This theory jumps off from some great points made by @lu-is-not-ok in this post about Sonya about how the two Team Fortress teams major factions we see in Limbus embody "seeing with the eyes" (Hermann's group) vs "seeing with the heart" (Demian's group).

And it makes sense, Hermann's group is full of scientists trying to crack the universe through experimentation while Demian's group seems to just want things to exist.

And Limbus Company is not subtle about the Little Prince metaphors, Demian quotes the book every time he has his cameos at the end of the cantos.

And then I got decked with the realisation of just how much the voice of the heart is a theme here. Demian is the Little Prince, and he understands more than anyone that the truth can only be perceived with the heart.

There's an entire metaphor in the book of the snake eating a boa, and how the "rational adults", the people who only perceive with eyes and accept logic and science as the sole truth, are blind to the truth of the drawing.

This is, I feel, how Dante's speech works - people who do not have a connection to them, who do not look past their clockhead, can only hear ticking noises.

Demian already has a pre-existing connection with Dante (putting them in the role of the POV character in the book, the Pilot) so he can easily do that. Hell, maybe Rim can as well, it's not like during the conversation in U Corp's Lobcorp branch he remarks on the ticking noises.

And the sinners?

Take a look at how Dante connects to them.

They're connected through the heart.

And the same can be said of Dante being able to explore the fathoms of their heart to discover their truths. They have an understanding that simply could not be formed by merely looking at each other how they appear physically.

What is essential is invisible to the eye.
