Colourpop is advertising the restock of one of their New Moon products. I can't access the version on their TikTok, but I'm sure it exists.

Hi! I'm Nixy. I've been on a bit of a tear for the last month and a half trying to get Colourpop, a cosmetics company, to publicly comment on their Twilight collaboration, as they have been using an indigenous tribe for marketing without compensation. There's more information here, including about them possibly blocking people, and deleted comments, if you want the very long version.

The short version is that it would be nice if you commented on one of their posts (instagram and tiktok seem to be the most active), and told them that you want to know when/if they're going to comment.

The products named after in-story tribe members are the ones selling out. Yikes!

Suggested phrasing:

Aww, it's so cute! It's a pity that it sold out before I could purchase any. Unfortunately, I'm pretty hesitant to buy something that has such a glaring ethical conundrum. I find your continued silence on the issue of Quileute appropriation to be pretty concerning. The products named after the characters and roles played by Quileute characters are the ones that are selling out, and that's more than a little sketchy at this point.

Finish with a question:

Is there a reason you CAN'T direct any proceeds to the tribe?

Does your contract with SMeyer prevent you from acknowledging the tribe?

Did you offer, and they refused because they don't want anything to do with Twilight money?

It's been a year since people started asking, and I'm concerned that you still won't respond to the questions we're asking.

Over a year ago now, colourpop announced they were doing a collaboration with Naruto and I was so excited! As a fan of both, I was keen to see what they would do. Naruto, like all anime, has a bunch of cool and important colours that I thought would make for some interesting and rarely seen colour stories.

Unfortunately I didn't love what eventually came out.

I realise there's lots of different things at play here. I suspect they only had the rights to naruto, and nothing from shippuden. Which is why they use blue to represent sasuke, instead of purple. I think they focussed more on everyday user friendly colours, but I want to be a clown at all times. Also a BIG missed opportunity to appeal to the sasunaru girlies. We could have done completely separate pallets? Pallets for different clans? Villages? Could have been a lot of fun.

So l decided to take matters into my own hands and design something I felt represents Naruto a bit better, with colours that I assosciate strongly with the series. I couldn't decide between just a Naruto pallet or a sasunaru inspired one, so I tried my hand at both. This was a fun experiment and I definitely have things I would change now, like figuring out how to get the internal patterns to line up, but it was fun to do something more design-y.

I got my twilight palette. As someone with green eyes I’m always told to avoid blue eyeshadow but sometimes you don’t need to wear things that complement you. You wear it because it’s fun. 

I found some of the mats a little hard to blend, but with some extra flicks of the wrist, it was fine. As always the shimmers and glitters were the stunners of the pallet. You did great colourpop!

The ColourPop Twilight: New Moon collection is very pretty. There are four different items I'm drawn to.

However. It is Twilight merch, and specifically New Moon merch, and I doubt there are any plans from Colourpop to donate any of the proceeds to the Quileute people, who have never seen a red cent of SMeyer's profits from her appropriation of their culture.

So. If you feel similarly, maybe pop over to this page and politely tell them about your concerns, and suggest that some profits go to the Quileute Higher Ground project.

Please share, maybe see if you can get people on other platforms talking about it.

Hello,

I have purchased many of your products over the last few years, sometimes through the site and sometimes not. I find the New Moon collection beautiful, but I feel some trepidation over it. Given your dedication to other moral issues, such as staying cruelty free, I hope that you are open to hearing me out.

Over the past two decades, Stephanie Meyer has made hundreds of millions of dollars from the Twilight series, and much of the draw of the three later books came from her use and misuse of the traditional stories of the Quileute peoples. None of the copious amounts of money that she made from her appropriation of their culture has ever gone to them.

At this time, the Quileute people are experiencing great risk due to rising sea levels, something they likely could have worked around easily had they any of the funds that the Twilight series should have led to for them. The current standard among Twilight fans is that, should any money come from a Twilight fan product (e.g. pins), then a portion of that money should go to "Quileute Move to Higher Ground," as a way of honoring the way their people's traditions led to a series we enjoy, and their lack of any true gain from that situation.

The collaboration you are doing will lead to yet more money going to Mrs. Meyer, and there is little doubt that she will continue to ignore the Quileute people's situation. I would like to suggest that your company donate a portion of the profits from this collaboration to the Higher Ground project, maybe even talking about it on social media if possible.

As it stands, this collaboration appears to continue the tradition of basing products on the Quileute people and their traditions, without compensating them in any way for it.

I am not affiliated with the Quileute Move to Higher Ground in any way, but I am a consumer who is interested in your products, and would love to buy these specific products. Many who express concern regarding the Twilight franchise and its impact on the Quileute people may be driven to actually buy this collection if told that this particular set, which draws from the book most heavily based on them, will benefit them.
