"Late diagnosed autistic" as in because I'm AFAB and a POC so they diagnosed me with anything and everything they could pull out of their behinds to avoid diagnosing me with autism.

Because of the mess that Duolingo turned out to be, I checked out a recommended app (list of recommendations here.)
I tried Busuu today and it’s great!
It actually uses the language skill levels of A1/ A2/ B1/ B2 that are used to compare language proficiency.
The assessment test was swift and didn’t feel pressuring, you can actually re-do the assessment for a language you already started whenever you feel like it!
However, one major point of critique (which is actually about accessibility): you can not turn off speaking exercises in Busuu. You can only repeatedly click “skip” whenever they pop up. But you can not just say “I don’t want/ can’t do speaking exercise at all.” And the same goes for listening exercises but worse because you can’t even skip those within your regular exercises/ lessons!
Disclaimer: I am not Deaf/ deaf nor mute. To me these things are annoyances more than actual accessibility issues but it does make Busuu feel rather inaccessible. Sometimes I just don’t want to deal with listening exercises. And I generally don’t like speaking “on command” or vocally replying to prompts. But, again, for me these are preferences.
I know speaking and listening exercises are important to achieve an actual comprehension for a language and I recognise avoiding speaking/ listening might slow down my progression in my chosen languages of study. I recognise that I need to and do consume media where I need to listen to the languages I’m learning.
To other people, it is an actual problem of accessibility that you can not universally turn off speaking/ listening exercises in Busuu.
I just figured this might be an issue people will inevitably notice now that we are changing away from Duolingo in droves and someone had to make a post about it.

I feel very apathetic to political posts bitching and moaning about how "gay people are at risk of being made illegal if trump wins" because they are actively ignoring how that is already happening to queer people of color because i guess the act of cruelty POC are facing every day is only actually a problem when it Might happen to white gays as well. Like no im not going to blindly vote for a democrat with the main argument being "she wont lock us queers up!" when democrats have and actively Are locking up immigrants in holding facilities and black people in jails and prisons. Its extremely telling that these people only care when white people are at risk. They dont see people of color as being equal to them in queer spaces, or equal to them in general. Its infuriating. If you want people to vote for kamala, use actual policy talking points instead of ignoring her treatment of POC and fearmongering about how its totally different when it happens to us Nice White Queers and how kamala is our gay savior or whatever the fuck

Welcome to Voice of All,
I’m Solara, a 17-year-old, passionate human rights advocate. This page is dedicated to shed light on various human rights issues such as women, immigrants, neurodivergent, children, LGBTQ+ rights and many more. I am deeply motivated by personal experiences – from a young age, I’ve witnessed and experienced first hand how unfair the world can be. I aim to help shape a world where everyone has equal rights, equal respect, and autonomy and independence for all. Here, you’ll find insights into issues, resources for people in need of help and support, and links to donate for serious issues such as the Israel vs. Hamas war, the Russo-Ukrainian War, and more.
Thank you for being here with me to support these important causes. When we work together towards one goal, we can make a difference!
Love,
Solara

Video
youtube
Autism Speaks is the most popular autism research organization in the U.S. They have support from loads of autism moms and people who work with autistic kids. But they’ve had a very controversial past with attempts to raise awareness like the infamous “I Am Autism” and “Autism Every Day” videos. But they’ve also been criticized for using the puzzle piece logo, promoting applied behavioral analysis (ABA) and searching for the cure to “the autism epidemic.” Today we’re going over the many reasons (past & present) that Autism Speaks is trash. ___________________________________________________________________________________
I made a couple mistakes in the most recent video.
I criticized Universal Healthcare + some people thought I meant I don’t support it at all. I am a socialist at minimum and in full support of universal healthcare. I left out the context of UK Do Not Resuscitate Orders on disabled people. I for some reason assumed everyone would know what I was talking about, and because of that I said it in a very misleading way. Firstly, the UK was accused of putting several disabled (autistic/learning disabilities) people on DNRs specifically in 2020/2021 during covid. Leaving that out made it seem like a current thing, I apologize for that. Secondly, this only allegedly happened. According to this report https://www.inclusionlondon.org.uk/wp... several disabled people responded to a survey saying they were put on DNRs or asked to sign them (when they shouldn’t have been). But we only have their word. It is not an objective fact that this happened, it’s just what disabled people say they experienced. The English NHS clarifies that this is not supposed to happen in this statement,https://www.england.nhs.uk/coronaviru... and says any of those questionable DNRs from 2020/21 were put under review. I apologize for not making that clear. I said Autism Speaks worked with Sesame St on creating Julia, which they didn’t. Autistic Self-Advocacy Network worked with them to create Julia, then left when Autism Speaks got involved later. The only mother in the video I was calling a bad parent was the one who talked about wanting to k*ll her daughter. The rest was a criticism of how autism speaks, framed the video, edited it, and what prompts they gave the moms to talk about. I should have made that more clear.
Thank you for all of the support on the video, and especially thanks to the commenters who pointed out these flaws. This correction will appear as a pinned comment on the original video, a community tab post, and in the description of the video. ________________________________________________

Beach Bliss with my Coloring Book
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
#COLORFORACAUSE is my Nonprofit, STUK Designs ongoing initiative. It is an initiative paired our coloring books. We wanted to raise heavy awareness in a light way. we believe coloring is deeply therapeutic and is a massive stress relief. It’s also just super fun! This is our form of art advocacy.
The U in STUK Stands for UNITY. Our first priority is creating change for underserved girls of color globally. On our campaign journey we realized that there was almost NO wide spread awareness about the severe racism and sexism that exists within the art world. The root cause is systemic, because underserved black girls are rarely even given the opportunity to even take an art class. This creates a system in which…
LESS THAN 1.2% OF ARTWORKS ON NATIONAL US GALLERY WALLS ARE BY BLACK WOMEN.
We are spreading our mission to the majority in order to uplift the minority of black girls who are deeply struggling. We create art, NFTS, publications and merchandise that not only supports self love art education, but also guide conversations about race. Unity will strengthen our community.
Join us!

This this this this
Only recently have I been made one of the people who NEEDS to heed these flash warnings(color/brightness sensitivity and seizure like symptoms) within the last four years.
All the media that I was able to access and loved have now VANISHED because of this.
I'm no longer able to watch the Spiderverse movies because of the jarring colors.
I'm no longer able to watch fast moving scenes that are cut to be wau too quick for dramatic effect.
I'm no longer able to enjoy ANYTHING with a glitch effect(even if it makes sense in the media).
I just. Can't. ENJOY many things anymore. Or at least new things. Because in older movies and media, they didn't DO this kinda stuff. They didn't rely on shocking colors and movements that flip the scenes way too quickly and make you dizzy. And when they did, they did it with purpose.
It wasn't every fucking time.
I'm tired of watching new things in fear and having to remove myself from them when they INEVITABLY decide to use strobe lights or nauseatingly bright colors.
Even my favorite creators STILL rely on this sort of thing every now and again because IT GETS VIEWS. And a lot of times THERE'S STILL NO WARNING.
Fuck.
It just.
It's frustrating.
And I'm glad that somebody with a fucking degree finally has said something about it.
Maybe this is a hot take, but as someone who literally went to a film school for a masters degree and is an avid video game fan, I feel like there’s just too much media out there that uses things like flash warnings to cover their ass for effects they like, don’t even need?
Like, every music video does not need strobe lighting. Games with blinding effects don’t need that effect to be bright fucking white. I’m sick of living in a world where giving a warning is enough to lock an entire group of people of enjoying art and stories for the fucking aesthetic. There are other ways to make things visually interesting I swear.

A late autism diagnosis can be such a huge relief, but it also comes with a lifetime's worth of grief.
You realize now that for 30 plus years you were existing behind a mask.
You see now for how long you were running on survival mode.
You know now all those times when you were misunderstood, mistreated, misjudged, it wasn't your fault.
You were not broken, or bad, or a lesser human being; you were trying to navigate a world that's actively hostile to those like you, and you didn't know how to do it, because you had no guidance of any sort and you were on your own.
You are simply different, and so many people in this society of ours just don't know how to deal with that.
