My thoughts on the "this story beat undermines the emotional impact of a story beat that came before" discussion point, specifically in terms of Star Wars applications...

(Note: this is NOT intended to deride anyone else's opinions on this - I respect differences of opinion and points of view! This is simply sharing my own opinion.)

In my Star Wars experience, this point has frequently been applied to say that Din and Grogu's reunion undermined the impact of the Mandalorian season 2 finale. More recently, I've seen it used in reference to Tech possibly surviving his fall - that Tech's survival would minimize the emotional weight of Bad Batch season 2 finale.

In short: I strongly disagree with this argument.

When viewing the story from the characters' perspectives: even when Din and Grogu DO reunite, it doesn't change the fact that both of them were emotionally torn when they parted ways, and then spent months apart and missing each other. Even though Tech DID live (😉), that doesn't change the fact that his loved ones went through the traumatic and emotionally weighty experience of watching him fall and spending months/years afterwards grappling with his apparent death.

And then I can't help but make some real-life applications of this argument, and... Well, all I can say is, when I finally have a chance to be reunited with the people I haven't seen in forever (similar to the Din/Grogu situation), I'm not going to be thinking, "You know, parting was such sweet sorrow and I really don't want to move past the 'sorrow' part so no reunions for me." If I ever were to have a family member who goes missing/is presumed dead (similar to Tech), and then that family member returns, my reaction is not going to be, "Sigh there goes months of grief and emotional trauma, just WASTED. Really wish they hadn't come back, it totally undermines the ordeal I went through and all the time I spent working through my grief. Stick to your (narrative) guns and be/stay dead!"

Besides, "emotional impact" doesn't always have to be sad. Joy is an emotion too. But my main point here is: having a sorrowful emotional moment be followed up later with a joyful emotional moment doesn't change the fact that the characters DID go through the sorrowful moment.

So, in case you can't tell, I'm glad Din and Grogu are together again, and I'm glad Tech lives 😉😁

I love the Nagazora arc and the way it all played out, and how well it worked out for KiaMei at the very end of part 1. In a crack nutshell:

So when I was in 7th grade I think I moved to the place I live in now but back then I was the new kid, and I started school a new start. During that year I had a really BIG crush on this guy and me and him were talking on snap or something and I thought he liked me. One day during class him and some other dude where arguing and the other dude said “ you like (my name) so shut up” and he responded with “No I dont” and everyone in class heard it and it went silent, I was talking to my friend but when he said that everyone looked at me I could feel their stares piercing the back of my head, and it was the worst thing i’ve ever experienced it was humiliating, and degrading but it left a scar into me. Him not liking me was not the part that scarred me it was the fact that liking me was such a negative thing that he had to immediately say back that he didn’t, that I was unlikable romantically and it changed the way I see myself and how others see me, I was chubbier then and had bad acne/hygiene. It made me self conscious, it was like a whole new perspective of myself showed it made me question whether I was lovable as a person, if I was pretty or even just a speck of attractive to other. After that I changed I became worse mentally, I had a bad coping habit and even a disorder it was just the worst thing. I had been through stuff that was worse like csa but that just pushed me into the edge of being in few year depression I have gotten better but still just 10 words caused that. It negatively impacted me both emotionally and mentally, it still does i’ve never tried to be with a guy, I never held hands, kissed, got a valentine and it just hurt seeing people your age with people knowing no-one’s liked you like that. Everyday I think about what ifs, like what if I was skinnier, What if I had a better personality, What if I wasnt myself. Not in a I still like that guy way, No but if that didn’t happen would I be a different person would I be happier?
