Chic Girl Diet: Gut Health & Clear Skin | IT GIRL DIARIES
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Living a “chic” lifestyle, to many, often means keeping up with the latest trends, from fashion to beauty, but it also includes taking care of our bodies—and that means addressing what we put inside them. I had a carefree relationship with food and self-care. At the time, I didn’t see how this was affecting me until my body started to show signs of distress—cystic acne, weight gain, fatigue, and bloating. For years, I had clear skin, but suddenly, I was dealing with breakouts that seemed impossible to control. This was a wake-up call about how my overall lifestyle and eating habits had caught up with me. The extra weight, the sluggishness, and the skin issues were all tied together.
At first, I turned to dermatologists and medications, hoping to fix the symptoms without addressing the root cause. But the pills often made me feel worse, causing headaches, body aches, and digestive problems. I’ve never been one to rely on chemical treatments, so I decided to try something more holistic: a change in diet and a more consistent workout routine. I wanted to see if cleaning up my eating habits and focusing on my gut health could make a real difference—not just for my skin, but for my overall well-being. What i call the “Chic Girl Diet” ,was born from this—an approach I took that focuses on nourishing the body from the inside out. I knew I had to change my eating habits and fitness routine to feel better, not just look better.
For two months, I followed a diet designed to heal my gut and promote clearer skin by cutting out processed foods and sugar. I did regular exercise to boost my metabolism and improve my energy levels, prioritising strength training specifically for this reason. The goal wasn’t just to get clear skin, but to feel better in my own body and reverse the damage of unhealthy living.
The results spoke for itself. My acne cleared up, the bloating minimised, and I feel more energetic and confident. I realized that sometimes we overlook the root cause of our problems—our lifestyle choices. Processed foods have become so normalized that it’s almost as if burgers grow on trees! We forget how deeply our eating habits affect not just our waistlines but our skin, digestion, and overall well-being.
It’s definitely not about perfection but about making small, sustainable changes that support your gut health and overall balance. If you’re struggling with acne, unnecessary weight gain, or fatigue, it might be time to reset your habits and give your body the nourishment it truly needs. The key is in focusing on whole foods, consistency, and self-care to help you feel—and look—your best.
That said, everyone’s body is different, and some people do require medication for health reasons. Acne, in particular, can stem from many different causes—hormonal imbalances, genetics, or other underlying health issues. It’s always best to get professional medical advice before following any health recommendations that may have been beneficial to the next.

How I Cleared My Acne Naturally
I have struggled with acne for most of my life. Especially in my tweens into the teenage years. Being between the ages 11 and 12 years old, eating a lot of fried foods before the start of the school day and even at lunchtime really took a heavy toll on my skin. I broke out a lot on my forehead area and on my nose, even on the chin area. I did had some pimples on my cheeks but it wasn't anything major from what I can recall. I had very low self-esteem and just felt insecure about myself. I didn't wanted to be seen by anyone. I wished I could have worn a paper bag over my head or just become invisible.
Everyday was just hard to look at myself in the mirror and to see my face. I felt ugly in my skin. And that feeling continued when I got into highschool. My skin was breaking out a lot more because I was a teenager and it really sucked. My face was always so oily/greasy. All I did was kept eating more junk food/fast food and drank a lot of fizzy drinks with a ton of sugar. Hardly drank any water. Maybe a sip or two but I really had detest drinking water.
My older sister had introduced me to some acne products to try to help clear up my skin a bit. I remembered trying Clean & Clear Morning Burst facial cleanser. That was the very first product I started using on my face and that made my skin much worse. I had gotten a lot of redness around the mouth area and dryness. My skin started peeling off around the mouth area. It was just pretty bad. It was absolutely embarrassing for me to speak to anyone with the way I had looked.
I began trying other acne products from Neutrogena to Bioré. I tried so many different products on the shelves at the store but nothing seemed to help my acne. My skin stayed a mess for sometime.
Then at the age of 16 years old. I decided to quit doing some things and make changes to my diet a bit. I started drinking more water A LOT MORE water, using a mild, gentle soap to cleanse my face daily, eventually switching to a natural, organic soap (ginger & turmeric) which realllyyy helped me a ton. Would highly recommend using a natural and organic soap especially if it's a ginger and turmeric one because it works very well on acne prone skin and if you are one with sensitive skin like me then a soap like this would be perfect for you. Also works well if you have blemishes/dark spots because it can lighten them on the face and overtime the marks will fade away/disappear completely. And I would advise you all to do your research on ginger and turmeric before using it. Both has a lot of wonderful benefits and works amazing.
I noticed such a drastic change when i used the soap a few times and started drinking a lot more water. My skin had never looked better. My acne started clearing up and I was looking and feeling great in my body. I had cut out all sugary drinks, eating junk foods instead incorporating more fruits and veggies into my diet (but i do like to snack at times, im still human lol) stressing a lot less, changing my bedsheets and pillow cases more frequently and stopped touching my face with unclean hands/picking at pimples. And I continued doing all of those things throughout the years. Yes, my skin has its moments from time to time. Fast-forward to even being at the age of 27 years old. I still breakout and even while im on my period but my acne is much more under control than how it was before. I feel a lot better about myself and can actually speak to people with confidence and maintain eye contact and just overall feel comfortable in my skin.
Sooo guysss this is a little about my struggle with dealing with acne or shall I say my acne journey and how I cleared up my skin naturally. I hope you all enjoyed today's post and I hope that it can be beneficial to you in someway <3. Please feel free to share your experience with having acne or if you've had acne or breakouts in the past. And how you overcame it or still trying to overcome it. As always, I would love to know all the things ! ~ ♡
Til' next time ~
