Grimdark/Inverse Mage of Mind
So from my understanding, there's three main popular theories on how one goes about being Grimdark.
-Influenced by the Horrorterrors -Being consumed by their classpect - Rejecting their classpect
I wanted to just write about how I think a Mage of Mind would go about the last two points, since I just think it would be interesting and we already know how one gets influenced by the horrorterrors. You don't have to read if you don't like class inversion since I'm pretty sure they go together with grimdark(i don't care if class inversion is 'wrong', I think its cool anyways). These are just my thoughts but feel free to correct or add anything since this is pretty far from anything canon.
-Being consumed by their classpect
I don't think we've seen in canon anyone getting consumed or overwhelmed with their classpect, so this isn't really based on anything. Maybe a Mage of Mind being consumed by their classpect ending up grimdark would do whatever it takes to get their desired result, obsessive even, if it means being violent/and or controlling, then so be it. There's too many actions to take and the amount of knowledge hurts the Mage, knowing how one little action can completely doom a session. Maybe they don't trust their teammates to not fuck everything up and accidentally doom the session, since there's so many wrong actions they could take. Or maybe they were hurt from an action someone else took, lack of knowledge ending up hurting the Mage in the end. Either way, i think they try to take things into their own hands as a safety measure or just being selfish, forcefully making or threatening others to take certain actions, just so they could see the outcomes or get the desired results. And from what we know, going grimdark is going off the deep end in every which way possible and I would think this counts.
- Rejecting their classpect
I want to use Eridan, where it's theorized that before he started on a murder spree, that he went grimdark by destroying or rejecting Hope, in turn becoming a Rage player. I'm not sure if that's just because of his class, being the Prince of Hope, so he was able to destroy it. But with using this logic, if a Mage of Mind is one that knows what actions to take and should act on it, then the opposite of Mind is Heart and more specifically Heir of Heart is the inverse of a Mage of Mind. So maybe a Grimdark Mage of Mind would let go of taking action and reject logic, instead letting their feelings and emotions influence their actions. Instead letting others make their own actions and letting things just happen without doing anything at all to act on it. Maybe someone's making a terrible, fucked up session dooming action and the Mage of Mind just doesn't care and lets it happen, OR cares too much but still lets it happen, their emotions taking over and stunning them, unable to act logically. Summing up what I think classpect rejection would look like. Of course not every action that the Mage lets go of has to be dooming a session, but you could imagine how quickly that could mess a session up. This feels more class inversion than someone going grimdark, but I still wanted to add it.

I need a little help, i have been mostly confused about my classpect since i have described myself as a sylph of heart, but i have been doubting my classpect since people (offical homestuck quiz) has told me im the light aspect
Aspect is the force that is most important in a person's life, whether lacking or abundant, whether good or bad, whether they want it or not.
The official TEZ quiz isn't bad for telling what your aspect is, but I wouldn't necessarily call it good either. If you know how to juxtapose the aspects and classes, it can be a somewhat viable springboard; it classified me, for example, as Mind Prospit, but I am Heart Derse. My class just happens to be Seer, which warped my answers on the quiz to appear as the inverse of what I was. (Seers study their true aspect through the lens of their inverse - I study Heart and Identity via Mind and Rationality. This means I appear to be a Mind Player on a surface level, but my deep desires are aligned with Heart; this is something a simple quiz cannot discern.)
For a lot of the people I have helped classpect (my friends, in private, because the way I classpect is extremely personal), they skipped the quiz entirely. What I found was that it helped the most to look at what their inverse was and see if that fit their experiences as much as the potential true classpect they were looking at.
Here's how I look at it:
If you describe yourself as a Sylph of Heart, your inverse would be Bard of Mind. A Sylph of Heart fulfills the Bard of Mind inverse by passively destroying that which is Mind (Rationality and Logic). Being a pure source of their aspect, a Sylph of Heart is either "scared of" or "sees no need for" what is Rational and Logical. They focus on actively enhancing Identity and Emotion, and thus, passively cause the destruction of Rationality and Logic. A Sylph enhances their aspect so much that they end up completely snuffing out their inverse aspect, which is very similar to what the Bard class does.
But AO, if both are supposed to fit, how do you tell which one you actually are?
Fall back on what an aspect is: Aspect is the force that is most important in a person's life, whether lacking or abundant, whether good or bad, whether they want it or not.
Now examine yourself, and be willing to be honest with yourself too. Which class holds what you struggle with the most?
For Sylphs, their challenge is to learn how to listen to the needs of others instead of assuming they know best, and to balance themselves by learning that it's okay to rely on others for their aspect sometimes.
For Bards, their challenge is to be able to embrace their aspect and not be ruled by its whims, learning to control the way it impacts themselves without letting it be destroyed.
As you can see, despite their similar actions, there is quite a difference in challenge and motivation! Though I will say, these are my class definitions, and class definitions can vary from classpector to classpector. At the very end of it all, only you can decide what fits and what doesn't. I hope I was able to help a little.

Alright then! How about classpecting the album "A Kiss for the Whole World" by Enter Shikari? (Though you already did two songs from it, i'm curious about the rest.)
This album proved difficult to classpect because every aspect dichotomy seemed to exist within it throughout the various songs. There's Space/Time in mentions of death and rebirth, Void/Light in truth versus lies, Breath/Blood in freedom and community, Life/Doom in overcoming oppressive misfortune, Mind/Heart in hypnotism and a lack of identity, and finally Hope/Rage in optimism and a willingness to fight back.
The overarching story appears to be one of pushing back against an oppressive, negative reality through optimism and perseverance. Positive emotion defines the protagonist's identity and allows them to break free from imprisonment in a blaze of glory. On the other side of things, this character is desperate. They feel they do not know who they are and may be forever trapped by situations out of their control. Halfway through the album they appear to suffer a significant crisis of identity.
The overall instrumental sound of the album is one of desperate triumph. It is joyous and chaotic.
Taking all of the above into account, I've decided that the protagonist of the album is likely a Rogue of Hope that becomes a Knight of Rage. Either they were meant to be a Rogue of Hope and inverted into a Knight of Rage during a moment of crisis, or, as most classpects do, they were destined to be a Knight of Rage and simply began their journey as their inverse.
At the start of the story, the main character comes across as an optimistic rebel, fighting for good against all odds. This is very much in line with the Rogue class, which steals their aspect with the goal of helping others. Likewise, they are fiery and driven by their positive emotions, with emphasis on concepts like: rebirth, truth, joyful community, and triumph. These concepts on their own come across as separate aspects, but together are Hope.
Halfway through the album, the story takes a darker shift, focusing on mental manipulation, despair, and fighting back even at the loss of your own identity. This to me rings of inversion, where the character is either discovering their true path or choosing to take a new one due to necessity. Their crisis is one of Heart/Mind, identity versus introspection. However, the character themself is not a Heart or Mind player. Rather, it seems the Heart/Mind within them is being influenced by an outside source. The antagonist of the story, the enemy that has put them in the situation they're fighting against, may be a Lord of Mind.
During this crisis of identity, the protagonist begins to act as a Knight of Rage. Throwing aside the mantle of the reckless rebel, they are instead the determined warrior, ready to make personal sacrifices to change the system they are trapped in. Again the themes of other aspects arise, this time coalescing to form the Rage aspect. Rebirth now means inversion into a new self, truth is rebellion against lies, freedom comes from violently breaking out of their chains, and a will to overcome is driven by their anger at injustice.
The story of this album could also be viewed as a Homestuck Sburb campaign, with the Rogue/Knight as the leader and the Lord of Mind the final boss, a Lord English equivalent. In this case, the Rogue/Knight would likely be in a romantic relationship with a Breath/Blood player, possibly a Maid of Blood. The Maid of Blood would specifically be the subject of the song "Dead Wood" and would be the character supplying the Breath themes in songs like "Leap into the Lightning".
Hope this helps! I will post the classpect card for the album shortly.

ohhh finally figured out my preferred aspect pairs :) (adding this afrer finishing the post: THIS GOT LONG SORRY LOL)
UNIVERSE: space/time. space includes everything, all matter and beings and potential in a chaotic, disorderly mess; time provides a dimension of order and routine to make space meaningful. together they create the fabric of the universe, the backdrop to existence
COMMUNITY: blood/breath. blood includes all bonds between persons, all relationships and connections that establish community; breath provides the individuality and necessary disconnects to ensure the community is comprised of distinct individuals. together they create society, rights, individuality, relationships
SELF: heart/life. heart includes the soul, the intangible essence of what makes a person themselves, including all potential choices they could make and lives they could live; life provides the physical form through which the soul interacts with the world, the body that defines who they become. together they create people, lives, alternate selves
EMOTION: rage/hope. rage includes a wide range of emotion, created through complacency, such as anger, disatisfaction, depression, anything resulting from the inability to see a way forward; hope provides that path forward through trust, courage, high spirits. together they create the emotional range of people, the reactions that guide them
FATE: mind/doom. mind includes all possible choices and actions, all potential timelines and alternatives that people can choose between; doom provides the inevitable fate of what will come to pass due to the immutable laws of the universe and alpha timeline, the structure for which choices will persist. together they create the distinct paths and alternate timelines through which people can travel
FORTUNE: void/light. void includes the nothingness that is the majority of the universe, the high probability that things will happen randomly without regard for good or bad; light provides the small, undeniable chance that the most fortuitous outcome will occur, the goldilocks planet in the vast expanse of space, the lucky break that seems too good to be true. together they create probability, potential, the ineffable random chance on which many things still rely
btw I framed these pairs very specifically to further split them into two broader categories; chaos (what would exist without interference) and order (the interference that makes existence meaningful). the aspects split as follows:
CHAOS: space, blood, heart, rage, mind, void
ORDER: time, breath, life, hope, doom, light
connections can be drawn between chaos aspects and order aspects (and, in fact, they often are). you can also divide the aspects further into reality (the backdrop on which people live and interact with one another) and inhabitants (the people who live and interact with one another on the backdrop of reality), which draws a few more distinct connections. the split is as follows:
REALITY: space/time, mind/doom, void/light
INHABITANTS: blood/breath, heart/life, rage/hope
and in this division, we can see some pretty clear parallels in terms of relative scale, for three subcategories: everything (everywhere, all at once), alternatives (clearly defined options to choose from), singularity (highly specific, in the moment chance). these divisions are as follows:
EVERYTHING: space/time, blood/breath
ALTERNATIVES: mind/doom, heart/life
SINGULARITY: void/light, rage/hope
this is it for me tbh. ive ordered the aspects in a way that makes sense to me; they all fuckin tie together. theyre split into pairs that cannot exist without the other, while still maintaining the connections to other parallel aspects that you cant really ignore. and man.... each aspect has two others completely disconnected from it and check this out
space: life, hope
time: heart, rage
blood: doom, light
breath: mind, void
mind: breath, hope
doom: blood, rage
heart: time, light
life: space, void
void: breath, life
light: blood, heart
rage: time, doom
hope: space, mind
doesnt work for all of them but hey. a lot of those aspect groups are ones that belong to kids with pretty notable relationships. something there about the aspects drawing in energy they dont have...... idk ill stop lol. but the point is I get aspects now!!!

Just remembering how, during the buildup to the original HS finale, I had a theory that the green sun essentially contained Earth C, a world combining alternia and earth, and I told this to one of the biggest theorists in the fandom.
They were certain that the comic was going to end with something much more to do with classpects - the "kanaya sews the universe back together" theory was a big one at the time, despite the fact LE was already ramping up - and they were like "well what would be the point? Just a new way to get to earth and alternia via time travel?"
I didn't get it perfectly right, but it's just funny how people get stuck in the minutia when huge onscreen events are unfolding in an obviously predictable manner. That's a pretty good lesson for fandom in general - the theorising is fun and all, but when something is clearly building up, it's better to go with it than expect it to be a twist. Either it goes exactly as it seems, and you don't feel lied to for believing your own hype, or there IS a twist, and you get to be surprised.
Fandom Theorising is fun, but don't let it ruin the thing you're a fan of. You joined in to see where it would go. Don't be surprised when you're still finding out right up to the end.

Because I have been absent, I think I'll post some thoughts I had about some specific classpects and their inverses.
These are classpects that belong to people I personally know.
-
Page of Space (Thief of Time)
You don't have enough efficiency or a set goal in your life, so you take and adopt the goals others have for yourself, or simply follow in their footsteps without considering the value behind why their set goal is set. This is, of course, in your attempts to learn how to use and navigate the variation in your life, as well as engage with your creative drive.
Rogue of Breath (Knight of Blood)
You are good at gauging your relationships and the levels they're at to aid you in things like camaraderie or responsibilities. But you are absolutely incapable of letting yourself rely on the strength of other people's relationships with you. This means you'd just rather give them freedom instead; you give but never receive in return. This leads to relationships where you're often taken advantage of.
Maid of Breath (Prince of Blood)
Your freedom comes from a need to control your own responsibilities and relationships, but because you've yet to figure out how to define freedom for yourself, your control over your responsibilities and relationships is beyond your grasp. You strive constantly to purify the meaning of freedom imposed upon you by others, and one of the ways you've found works involves destroying, or encouraging the destruction of, the responsibilities and relationships of others.
Thief of Blood (Page of Breath)
You crave responsibilities, relationships, and the camaraderie of others, but you don't know how to place proper value on it, so the ones you do have are taken and shallow. Your attempts to dig deeper and make them mean something come from your attempts to use and navigate your own freedom and individuality. You were trapped before, and now you don't know how to be free.
Seer of Light (Witch of Void)
Secrets drive you. You have been surrounded by secrets your whole life, so much so that you cannot help but be made of them too. You exist to crack open all the secrets you possibly can, because knowledge has always been withheld from you, and you only know how to study through the lens of what is unknown to you, rather than what is already known by others. You change the lens through which you study, but it is always unknown. You change what is secret and bring it to light through the studies of nobody else except for yourself. You know what you know because you change the unknown and you do not let anybody else do it for you.

I’m so glad you like the card system too! I’ll have to dig up the pdf files and clean them up so others can print them, since I usually make something that only makes sense to me lol
Inversion has always been a contentious/confusing topic among Homestuck fans, and Hussie seems to have gone out of his way to not explain it (who is surprised, tbh?).
I’ll have to do a write-up sometime of my opinions on it, as well as summarizing what other fans have proposed.
youtube
Homebrew Homestuck Classpect Card System | Pop Culture Magic Divination Oracle Cards
@mysterious-dark-shadow made a Homestuck oracle deck that can be used for classpecting, and in this video I show you how it works!
I'm really excited about this video because I get to show this thing he did off finally, it's really neat and I'm really glad people get to see it now.

Uhhhhhhhh Sburb AU!! This was more of an excuse to classpect and make sprites, so don’t ask me questions about plot details because I put like zero thought into it. Tsumugi probably had something to do with setting up the session, and she’s hiding her real title and the fact it’s not her first session. Baby Kiibo is a robot baby because I thought that was the funniest option.
Drawing with anti-aliasing off really brings me back...
Classpect thoughts under the cut if you really want:
Immediate caveat: I mention speculative stuff here like unconfirmed active/passive class pairs and inversion theory. If you don’t like those things or otherwise disagree with the titles I gave people that’s fine but just know I’m not super interested in debating about it and won’t reply.
So, to start out with I wanted to make the 8 of them a session, so I needed no overlaps in class or aspect and one Time + one Space. I also wanted to have Kaito and Kokichi as opposing aspects. In general, I think of a Title as kind of the end of your assigned character arc, so depending on your level of maturity/introspection at the start, it can seem either really obvious or really unintuitive. I tried to base them off of the hypothetical chapter 6/survivor versions of characters, since those (plus maybe the chapter 5 deaths) of the ones that get a full arc in DR canon.
Immediately Tsumugi seemed like a deadringer for Space, not so much because of the literal physics-related stuff but because of its associations with creation/narratives and setting things up for other people to act. I made her Sylph of Space here, but that's a facade. She's actually a Muse of Space who participated in past session(s) and wants to watch how things play out.
Based on the Extended Zodiac description, Kaito or Kaede has to be time, but Kokichi CANNOT be Space by any stretch of the imagination. I made her Heir of Time with the interpretation of Heir as someone who invites change/influences of/through their aspect. Time is also associated with music and death, which is both fitting and a little mean. (I can also see Kaede as Breath outside of having to have someone be Time.)
So moving onto Kaito and Kokichi, I was considering Hope vs Rage (belief vs doubt, possibility vs restrictions), but 1) Rage is defined partially by hatred of lies despite otherwise sounding Kokichi-ish (that alone could be interesting, with the possibility of a negative/reverse title or else giving him Hope and Kaito Rage for the unexpected swerve........) 2) I really wanted to give Hope to Kiibo. So instead I went with Heart and Mind (emotion vs logic, intuition vs planning, identity/motivation vs action/decisiveness).
Kokichi is Thief of Mind for taking away other people's decisions for his own purposes but also for generally "stealing" things (e.g., the Mastermind Role, narrative importance in general, along with literal items) through his own cleverness. Vs Kaito, a Knight of Heart, who uses his constructed identity as a weapon to face challenges. I'm also a fan of inversion theory, so I think at low points they'd both trend towards Page of Heart (grows powerful late in the narrative based on his own ego/identity) and Rogue of Mind (taking choices/agency/logic away from people for their own good), respectively.
I always wanted Kiibo to be Hope since 1) Ult. Hope Robot 2) big on possibilities/faith but can be a little self-centered. I went with Bard at least partially to make a "guess we know whether he has a dick or not now!" joke, but I also think "inviting destruction through Hope, inviting destruction of (false) hope" is pretty spot on for chapter 6 Kiibo. Like, as the camera/audience surrogate, he's been forced into passively leading the others to despair, not to mention how the audience takes him over to destroy the hope of ending the show. But Kiibo ends up reversing this and helping destroy the audience's faith in Danganronpa, destroying the whole academy in accordance with the vote. (Sidenote: I wonder if Kiibo gets taken over by Horrorterrors and goes grimdark? Or if he's just really, really susceptible to orders from his Exile)
Shuichi, Page of Void, was another one that immediately came to mind. Like, "starts off weak but becomes really strong/important by the end" is Shuichi's thing! Also, counterpart to Kaito's Knight. And Void is all about secrets, mystery, etc. From the Extended Zodiac: "Where others might be compelled to go out and seek answers, the Void-bound lean more toward casting doubt on what is already considered understood. They don't take much on faith and would rather live in a state of confusion- than believe something that might be untrue or bow to intellectual authority... At their best, Void-bound are wise, intuitive, and vibrant. At their worst, they can be dismissive, indecisive and apathetic."
I had considering Light, for seeking out knowledge/truth, but Shuichi's character arc ends on "fuck you, I refuse to play. You all get nothing more from us" and learning to live with ambiguity, so I think he's way more Void. But, again, inversion would be Thief of Light, so selfishly taking away knowledge/importance from others.
Speaking of Light, I made Miu Mage of Light. Mage is like, active Seer, seeking out knowledge for yourself (vs advising others) and Light is luck, knowledge, and also importance/plot relevance. As an inventor, Miu keeps innovating and figuring things out, plus she's very motivated by her own importance to the world. She wants to be seen more than anything else and loves being smarter than those around her. Also: "At their best, the Light-bound are resourceful and driven. At their worst they can be fussy, pedantic, and insensitive." Inversion is Heir of Void, so "inviting change via hiding things" or "changing what's kept secret", which suits Miu when plotting murder.
Finally, Maki is Prince of Blood. Blood is trust, bonds, relationships, stubbornness, duty, obligation (vs freedom, change, choices) so "someone who breaks bonds/destroys relationships" but also "someone who destroys using/motivated by duty/relationships". Like, Maki is inherently a fracture point in the group because of her talent and then directly breaks the group apart and sabotages her relationships with the others in chapter 5, but also she's deeply motivated by her bonds to others in all of her destructive actions (protectiveness for orphanage/friend, love for Kaito). This sound super negative, but I think this is also the Maki who commits to destroying the institution of Danganronpa in chapter 6. Sometimes you have to be decisive and cut bad relationships out of your life.
Inversion would be Sylph of Breath, so "healing via change" or "encouraging growth towards freedom", which you can argue is sort of the way Kaito wants her to go? But she just doesn't. Idk, for better or worse, I think Maki is very aware of who she is and how people related to her, so even at her worst she's true to herself, vs, say, Kaito or Kokichi, who act "ooc".
