Another set of stickers and badges are done! Got a little carried away again, but here's some X-Men. I'm thrilled to see the X-Men films fandom coming back to life because of Deadpool and Wolverine, especially all the love for lil baby X-Men 2000 Logan. I really want to watch X-Men '97 now since I keep seeing so many clips and edits of it. I know these aren't all of the X-Men, there's too many to draw them all, but here's some poolverine, cherik, the love-triangle-that-could-have-been-solved-with-polyamory, some '97 babies and the comic wives.
Characters available: Angel / Waren Worthington III, Beast / Hank Mccoy, Lucas Bishop, Cable / Nathan Summers, Cyclops / Scott Summers, Deadpool / Wade Wilson, Destiny / Irene Adler, Gambit / Remy LeBeau, Goblin Queen / Madelyne Pryor, Iceman / Bobby Drake, Jubilee / Jubilation Lee, Magneto / Max Eisenhardt / Erik Magnus Lehnsherr, Morph, Mystique / Raven Darkhölme, Nightcrawler / Kurt Wagner, Phoenix / Jean Grey, Professor X / Charles Xavier, Rogue / Anne Marie, Storm / Ororo Munroe, Wolverine / Logan Howlett.
I can’t link to my Etsy without risking Tumblr hiding the post from tag search results, but the link is in my pinned post, my carrd, I’m emptymasks on Etsy. Reblogs help support artists more than likes ❤️
[ID: Individual pixel art chibi drawings of 34 characters from the X-Men comics, films and cartoons that are available as chibi stickers drawn with a pixel brush. These drawings are also available as badges where they are placed inside circles to show what they will look like as physical button badges, some of them with plain colour backgrounds and some with 1-3 different pride flags as examples of how you can customise the backgrounds.]

I can’t believe it’s been a whole year since the finale! I will never not cry at this beautiful full circle moment (I’m not crying, you are!). If it isn’t obvious by the existence of this blog 😂, I really love this show.
It’s hard to believe now, but it was my spouse’s idea to watch it! He saw some clips of Amity panic online and thought it looked super cute and we binged Season 1 on Disney+. Nerdy bi Latina protagonist and there’s witches?? I was pretty easily sold 😅. But then on top of that it was just so good??? We don’t have cable, so for Season 2, we were always waiting to catch the episode bundles that would drop on Disney+ and I was avoiding the fandom like the plague so I didn’t get spoilers— when the 3rd season episodes were dropped on YouTube on the days they aired, I was thrilled!! Naturally, I sobbed through this entire episode 😂.
A few months ago, I was trying to clear out my camera roll and I found this screenshot that I saved to text my spouse on July 15th, 2021. I could not possibly delete it because this was me anticipating the first set of Season 2 episodes to drop on Disney+. It’s wild to think back on how excited I was even then.
This show has brought me so much joy AND pushed me into finally pursuing this hobby of making fanart (I’m talking taking art classes so I could get better at drawing Raeda 😅), so I can say it will have a lasting effect on me. I couldn’t possibly summarize everything it means to me, but I know it means a whole lot to so many of you, too, so I don’t have to. I know you’ve heard it a million times, but thank you @danaterrace!!

The Former Reject Demon (Demon!Touya) (2/6)
This is an alternative universe where demons can be familiar to witches or wizards to assist and, most of all, as protectors. Witches and wizards can create pacts with demons.
Word Count: 1.4K+ (2/7)
A/N: Tumblr has a limit on how much you can put in singular post. I was forced to put it into six different posts. If you wish to see a singular post about it, here is the link to Ao3.
Precious Part
Unknowingly, in the moral world, you were running for your life and running low on your magic, already pushing your limit with your abilities.
You knew the risk of doing the summoning ritual by yourself, but you had to try. You wanted to live! You were using the broken bow that was stabbed through your shoulder with tears in your eyes. Adrenaline is running through your veins. The state you are in is asking for death, but you would rather die trying than do nothing. The summoning will take a toll on your body and the demon's, especially if it's running dangerously low.
You were chanting the ritual summoning spell, despite already trying to summon your familiar a few months ago and seeing nothing, not even a spark of power. It surprised your teachers and parents to see nothing coming or even a sign of life because you have the potential to become a powerful witch. You were already climbing the ranks at your school, and now it's biting your ass. You were being hunted like an animal.
'It could be meaningless, but you had to try.' You bitterly thought while ignoring the throbbing pain on your shoulder.
When you were being attacked at the top of the summoning circle, you didn't stop the chanting in your mind as you were being choked. You did try to fight back against the demon over you. You didn't see the spark that turned into small flames of orange and blue. You felt your whole body burning from the inside, but you couldn't tell if it was the spell or the lack of oxygen.
At the sight of the demon raising its hand above them to show off the sharp nails reflecting against the full moon, growing longer in preparation to rip into you. Inside of Hell, Touya was already engulfed in flames that were causing him extreme pain while choking and starting to lose consciousness while digging his nails into the demon above him, who was putting all of his weight against his windpine.
You ended the verse by shutting your eyes, expecting pain, but instead you felt the weight of the demon off of your body while hearing the demon screech in pain. You open your eyes to see a demon engulfed in blue and red flames on top of the demon, punching down on them while burning their flesh off with each punch. But the flames extinguished on their own within a minute.
It was the last thing you saw before losing consciousness, but soon Touya followed after you, who fell over to the side. The summoning took all of the energy the two of you had. The demon fell unconscious due to the extreme pain that he was experiencing from Touya. Touya came out of nowhere, engulfed in flames, and launched at him with sharp claws.
When Touya woke up at the hospital. He was startled by the sight of the weird things he had never seen on his body before, and ripping the cables that were attached to his body off causing the machine to start beeping which echoed within his hospital room.
You pull the curtain to the side in alarm, thinking your demon is having heart failure, but the two of you just stare at each other dumbfounded. You had an arm in arm sling with bandages around your neck.
You tried to explain what is happening to only be met by hostility from him. He was ready to pounce on you without any notice. A demon of one of the doctors had to explain to him what was going on. You didn't miss the pure curiosity mixed with skepticism in his turquoise eyes when you were introduced to him.
You have seen the clipped wings on his back that are missing parts, and most of all, you have seen the burn scars throughout his body. You were informed what he is, but still wanted to see it through.
You didn't bring up the contract, which must be completed within the first 24 hours of the summoning, until the last 2 hours of the time frame. You could see his eyes on you—completely skeptical and suspicious. You had clothed him and offered to buy him food. He was eating like a starving demon would. It was messy, but you didn't miss the way he was hugging his plate through him and immediately looking over his shoulder whenever he felt someone passing by him.
He kept looking over his shoulder constantly. He was clearly on edge.
"All I ask is that you spend one year with me. If you don't like being my familiar, I will release you from the contract, letting you have your freedom in the moral world."
Touya isn't going to lie. The deal sounds too good to be true. You could be the worst human ever to exist, but you keep proving him wrong with the way you treated him and the demons around you during the past 22 hours.
The upside of this deal is that if he doesn't like it, he can have freedom and create a life outside of hell in just a year. He doesn't want to go back to Hell. That's the only reason he accepted it. It is just an appealing deal.
It took about 4 months for him to adjust and lower his guard around you, but he was slightly on edge. He was territorial about his living space and food. You didn't mind it. You gave him his space and respected his boundaries whenever he had his lip curl up, showing off his fangs with a warning growl when you were too close to his personal space.
He also became the reason why you couldn't have your friends over with their demons because Touya didn't like their presence within his living space.
Touya also became the reason why no birds no longer sit on the edge of your window. You caught him eating one after class, not because he was hungry but because he was curious about how it tasted. There aren't birds in hell.
You read more about reject demons out of curiosity. It should be impossible to be able to summon one unless you meet the two requirements. You never brought yourself to ask him about his experience in hell. You were still getting to know him about his boundaries and likes and dislikes. You didn't want to go back to square one with him.
Everyone around you is telling you that it's best for you to find a different familiar. He isn't going to last, especially with the body he has. You don't miss the way the elders of the Witch Council would stare and look at the two of you like trash whenever they came to visit school grounds to look at the next generation of witches and their familiars.
A lot of your peers and teachers have told you that you were making a grave mistake by making him, your familiar. You tried to hide your hurt, but seeing what you have seen in his behavior, you don't want to lose hope in him yet. You wanted to give him a chance, even if it bit you in the ass.
It took a couple more months for Touya to even let you touch him without growling and snapping his neck, swiping at you instinctively. He subconsciously memorized your scent and how your steps sounded.
You have always treated him with kindness and respect. You respected his boundaries. It wasn't something that Touya was used to. You provide him with enough freedom that he doesn't feel like he has a chain around his neck. All you asked of him was to train with you three times a week during your training classes, specifically the ones that required demon familiars.
He did hate it at the beginning since you were doing things that were so easy that even a baby demon child could do. It soon became challenging for the two of you to channel the same amount of concentration. The two of you had to be in sync, which took a longer time to get it right.
Eventually, time flies, and Touya decides to stay with you. The two of you renew the contract, opting for the traditional agreement that typically gets renewed every five years. You assured him that the door would always be open if he wanted to end the contract at any time.

brainstorm gets stuck in his dumb ceiling harness and perceptor has to untangle him and possibly take him to the medbay for for hurting himself trying to get himself down hsjdhs
Thank you for your prompt! A tiny fic:
-----
Brainstorm's left wing and remaining dignity were both hanging by a thread. The mech himself, unfortunately, was hanging by rather more than a thread: he was stuck in his own harness, dangling from the roof of his workshop.
"It's a bit sexy, isn't it?" He stroked an absent beard over the flat plane of his faceplate.
Perceptor stood on the work bench beneath him, bracing up the wing with his shoulder as he tried to disentangle a strap from its sparking insides.
Being able to see what he was doing would have enabled him to enjoy the power of a knife, but since he couldn't, and the wing was already sparking at its joint, he had to shove his fingers into the mysterious shadows inside Brainstorm's shoulder armour and attempt a manual disentangling.
His hands were wet with leaking fuel from where the strap had cut into Brainstorm's fuel supply. He had a very narrow aerofoil and it wasn't going well.
"Sexy?" Perceptor repeated dubiously. Getting stuck in his own ridiculous harness? The one he built so he could dangle from the roof to, somehow, impress Perceptor? "Brainstorm, it's not even smart."
The wing tensed under his fingers, creaking ominously as it tried to sag expressively. Brainstorm's sulking actually deepened his access, and he found a strap of distinctly non-biological cabling at last. From there, he began to follow it with his fingers.
"Ha! I should have known you'd need something to be smart to be sexy. We're so alike." Were they? Were they? "But," he went on, "it's pretty smart." He winced as Perceptor shoved, trying to stopper the fuel leak even as he sought out the rogue straps of the harness. This did not stop him talking. "Who else do you know who can engineer atrocities upside down?"
"I'd be impressed if you managed to do it upside down using a stable antigravity field," Perceptor offered, half-sparked and through his teeth, because it seemed marginally better than telling him nobody except you thinks that's an achievement, actually.
"Ohh. What a thought. Noted," said Brainstorm.
"It wasn't a request." If Perceptor's voice was terse and clipped, could anyone really blame him? Really?
He stretched up on his toes for a moment, heaving his shoulder beneath Brainstorm's wing and shifting it for just long enough to get his fingers around that one strap. When he relaxed back onto his heels, the sudden weight of Brainstorm's wing compressed his hand.
"Ouch," said Brainstorm, but not really as though it hurt. "I'm surprised," he added, "I thought you'd be all over me! Dangling from the ceiling, entirely at your mercy."
The frustrating thing was that he wasn't wrong. Perceptor didn't mind the idea of Brainstorm getting stuck in his ridiculous harness, exactly. He could have paced in slow, deliberate circles beneath his conjunx's helpless frame, listening to him whine to be set free.
That had a certain appeal.
But he wasn't just stuck. He hadn't called Perceptor when he was just stuck. He'd panicked, tried to unstick himself, and twisted himself up until something had cracked and there was fuel slowly drooling from his wing. He'd only sent a comm when his wires had started throwing sparks inches from an open fuel source.
And nobody liked to show up to find their conjunx bleeding onto the floor, one wrong move from accidental self-immolation.
Perceptor didn't dignify this comment with an answer. He pulled on his strap instead, trying to find where it had any give. It tightened the rest of the cables around Brainstorm and set him gently to spinning, somehow, which he did without much grace.
Perceptor ducked to avoid getting a wing to the face. The wing he'd been bracing up creaked and bent, sagging down with the draw of gravity. Brainstorm didn't wail and complain about the pain. Instead his optics whited out in complete silence, which Perceptor thought might have been worse.
"I'm going to cut it," he decided.
"Bold. Strategic. Incisive. Good idea." Brainstorm spun another slow rotation on the spot, helpless before the forces of physics. The forces of physics were probably due a win over Brainstorm at this point, anyway, really. He defied them often enough under regular circumstances.
"I might clip something," he warned. He pulled his hand out. It was slippery with energon, and the stain glowed under the strong laboratory lighting.
"Wow, okay, no, bad idea. Terrible idea. No. No?"
Perceptor ignored this and jumped down from the work bench. He came back a moment later carrying the the wire cutters.
"Percy," Brainstorm squirmed, which did not make it any easier to find the right cable to snip by feel alone. "Hey, Percy, come on."
"Don't flap."
Brainstorm, apparently sensing the futility of his wriggling, instead went very still. Perceptor dug his slippery fingers back into the shadows of the wing joint, seeking out the loop of cabling.
He knew he'd found the right one, because tugging it set Brainstorm to slow spinning again.
"I think I'm getting seasick."
"I'll just be a moment." He couldn't see, but he could feel his way along the cable. He clamped the wire cutters and pressed down slowly, waiting for Brainstorm to tell him it hurt. He did not, so Perceptor took that as encouragement. He braced Brainstorm's sagging wing up with his own shoulder again and cut the cable.
Snip.
There was a whistle as the strap finally came free, and Brainstorm made a tank-churning noise of pain as the broken ends dragged through his injured wing where they'd cut in.
"Wait," he said, in such a tone that Perceptor looked up in alarm, but it was already too late: the other harness cables, suddenly given all of his weight and without their fellow to help, could not hold up.
Snap, snap, snap, went the harness, and Brainstorm thrashed his good wing, trying to twist to hold onto it, but—there was a creak—he swung and spunsnap!—and then tumbled down from the ceiling to crash onto Perceptor, who was right below.
They fell in a crash and clatter of metal limbs onto the workbench, where one of Perceptor's flailing feet knocked the miniature model of his own alt mode off the bench to thunk onto the floor. It lay there on its side and was quickly forgotten.
Then, silence.
For a few moments there was no sound but the settling noises of living metal and the dull whir of hard-working processors. Perceptor could keenly feel where Brainstorm's canopy had dented his flatter chestplate. He let his head tip back to rest upon the bench: thump.
He stared up at the tangled mess that had been Brainstorm's harness. The cables and straps swayed gently above, looking wholly innocuous. One of them was shiny with fuel.
"...Bracing!" said Brainstorm lightly. He clamped his fingers over the leak in his wing. He was much better at finding it than Perceptor had been, given that he could actually feel it. He tipped his head so he too could see the carcass of his harness. "I'm gonna have to fix all that."
Something crackled and his wing joint sparked, a bright little fleck of golden light near Perceptor's face.
"You mean you're going to need to dismantle it."
"...Right! Yes. That. I'll need to dismantle it. Especially since," he added, shooting a sly look at Perceptor, "I have to make the antigravity field."
Perceptor did not take the bait. "Was seeing First Aid somewhere in this game plan?"
"Sure," said Brainstorm, sounding distinctly like someone who wasn't listening to a word Perceptor had said. "But now that I'm free, you can tell the truth... It was a bit sexy, wasn't it?"
If he hadn't been injured, Perceptor might have shoved him off the workbench. "No."

Replaced the circle pad on a Nintendo 3DS XL.
Top had snapped off the old one. The remaining nubbin still functioned as a joystick but it just wasn't very nice to use.
Replacement part obtained from eBay for like 5 bucks or something.
Didn't take any photos of the process because I was so nervous and concentrating so hard on not fucking it up, but it was a success.
Here's the installed new one alongside the old broken one balanced on my finger:
Last night I read through the iFixit guides and ALL of the comments for this process on both the regular and XL consoles, and then watched a video that one of the comments linked to about a better way to remove and reinstall the retention ring
(iFixit says to just forcibly yank it out and "don't worry about bending it it's totally fine" but the YouTube guy showed the actually correct way of doing it, where you wind it on like putting a key on a keyring)
And then this morning I girded my loins and just jumped into it before I could psych myself out.
Delicate procedure because of how teeny tiny all the components are, but at the end of the day it wasn't any more complicated than taking apart a laptop or whatever. Carefully remove the screws using a lot of pressure behind the driver so that you don't strip them, carefully unlatch ribbon cable retention clips so that you don't accidentally rip them, and then carefully put everything back together again so that you don't forget any steps of the process.
The iFixit guides have you completely and utterly disassembling the 3DS which is ludicrous overkill for this process. Don't need to remove the motherboard, don't need to remove any other components whatsoever beyond the joystick itself. As many people pointed out, you can skip from step 6 to step 21 with no issues whatsoever.
Whole thing only took about 20 minutes.

Fucking around with a prompt I saw for Malevolent but have repurposed for SpideyPool bc I have brain rot. (Ugh. Save me.)
Wade Wilson is a mercenary that works for The Organization (very ominous) and he completes missions with the help of a handler. A comms person in his ear feeding him intel and keeping him in line. He's recently been assigned a new handler.
/scene start/
“Take a left at the next street, then an immediate right.”
A muscle in Wade’s shoulder blade twitches as the voice crackles into his ear. This new comms guy is fine, but he’s still not used to hearing someone that isn’t Cable on the line. Wade and Cable had an understanding that this new guy wouldn’t know anything about.
It’s the height of fucking absurdity that Wade is just supposed to roll with some noob rattling instructions into his ear. He and Cable had trust. Namely, Cable trusted that Wade would do the most unhinged thing possible in any given situation and Wade trusted that Cable would be able to get him out of it.
There’s no trust with what’s-his-face. Her face. Their face?
Wade doesn’t fucking know and that’s the whole point. He’d put effort into making sure that he and Cable could work together flawlessly. Yeah, Cable hadn’t exactly been ecstatic that Wade had stalked enthusiastically followed Cable for a year, but that was just business sometimes.
Now Wade has to start all over again. Fuck th—
“Left. Now.”
Wade cranks the bike to the left, putting his foot down as the back end fishtails him around the arc and he can gun it down the alley.
“Right. Now.”
Wade skids again, the back wheel clipping the corner of the building and nearly dumping him onto his face.
“Your other right. Christ.”
“Well,” Wade grunts, muscling the bike back into balance. “Guess I’m takin’ a shortcut.”
The only response is a cute little growl followed by the sounds of frantic key tapping and aggressive paper shuffling.
That’s more like it.
Wade can’t have his new handler letting the title go to their head. No one handles Wade.
Wade is unhandleable.
“U-turn at the next light. Aim for Benton Street.”
“Sure thing, Siri.”
The traffic light switches to green just as Wade shoots out of the alley. He cuts behind a older model truck running the intersection then banks the motorcycle hard, nearly dumping it before coaxing it into a half-circle.
“Benton, Benton, Benton,” Wade mutters to himself, eyes scanning the street signs.
“Between the Starbucks and the hair salon.”
The tires on the bike grab just as that corporate green and white mermaid catches Wade’s eye. He eases off the throttle to get the bike pointed in the right direction, then cranks it back again, speeding between coffee and coifs.
“Where to now, Google Maps?”
Wade is pretty sure that’s the sound of teeth grinding. It puts a little smile on his face, and he has to use most of his willpower not to wiggle in the seat. He does wiggle a little though because he’s not a puritan.
Cable would have given Wade a stern talking to by this point, reminded Wade that he’s doing this for the greater good, that he needs to protect everyone else in the organization by not getting caught, scolded him for leaving a weapon at the scene.
blah blah blah
yada yada yada
He might actually be able to get behind a comms runner that doesn’t sit in his ear like Jiminy Fucking Cricket and judge him the whole time. That’s the ticket. He needs to think about this like being freed from oppression. The next time he wants to take a tooth as a trophy or de-glove somebody’s hand before killing them, there won’t be anyone to say no.
“Duck.”
“Wha—?”
A hot line of pain sears across the outside of Wade’s shoulder and he looks down to see blood oozing from a bullet wound, dripping down the sleeve of his leather jacket. Well… not his leather jacket.
“I just stole this jacket,” he whines.
“DUCK, asshole,” the voice barks in his ear and Wade is leaning over the handlebars, knees gripped tight to the gas tank, before his brain can even process the words.
Ungh.
Okay.
A bullet shatters a shop window to Wade’s left and he quickly readjusts his perspective.
If Wade’s new comms guy can get him out of this alive, he might be willing to give it a chance.
After all, he usually pays $1.99 a minute to get someone to talk to him like that.
#fanfic#fic wip#spideypool#deadpool#wade wilson#spider-man#peter parker#peter parker / wade wilson#yeah ofc peter is totally the comms guy#we'll see if this goes anywhere

Making BIG SIF2 (Part 2)
Hello again. In case you missed the first part of this project, I'm trying to recreate an old SIF(1) attraction where nine players jump around on floor buttons to play the game cooperatively. Last time, I went into how those buttons work, how they connect to the game, and completed the first switch.
Just need to do that eight more times.
This is another post with a bunch of text I'm writing down as I work on the project, in case you want to see where it's going or want to build something similar yourself. The TL;DR is that all floor switches are done now, I had to change the button mapping app, and found a nice solution for selecting songs and starting Lives - and then there's a video of me trying (emphasis on trying) to play BIG SIF solo.
This is the part of a project where there's nothing to do but boring, repetitive work. There is more interesting stuff to do, but you can't get to it before you just spend several hours doing the same thing over and over again, and it's hard to get excited to do it. So, even though this was probably the most time-consuming step of the project with 25+ hours, it can be summarized in one sentence: there are now eight more functioning switches.
This involved cutting out a total of 24 more shelf liner circles, clipping holes into 8 more rug pad spacers and 8 of the shelf liners, inserting 128 snap caps, crimping 16 connectors, and placing all the copper tape and soldering it together. One small change I made is that I added a little bit of copper tape to move all the connectors a bit to the side, so you don't step right on it when going for a press, and also gave it a generous glob of hot glue to serve as strain relief. Also, I had to purchase more anti-slip rug pad after all - turns out most of the one I owned was too flat to work properly. Oops. With the new rug pad, I noticed this beady style of rug pad is more stretchy on one axis than the other, so these layers are not rotationally symmetrical. To help with that, I cut out the corner where the connectors are glued on - not only does this make that spot a little flatter, but it also makes it easy to tell which orientation the pads must be placed when assembling the switches to align everything correctly.
Since I don't own any proper presses, all of the snap caps and crimp connectors had to be done by hand. That - combined with all the liner cutting, rug pad trimming, and soldering - has not been a fun time for my wrist :) It might be a good idea to invest into snap cap and crimp presses instead of pliers, it's probably cheaper than replacing my wrist down the road... and for the soldering, I'll probably just go with copper tape with conductive adhesive next time as mentioned before, to avoid that problem altogether.
Speaking of crimp connectors: add 36 more to the count for those connecting cables, and 18 more for the other ends on the controller board. The latter one just involved replacing the little button connectors the board comes with, which would usually make it easier to wire up arcade panels.
As for the cables, those are speaker wire. It's probably extremely overkill for a simple signal wire. I originally wanted to use dirt-cheap doorbell wire which would have been more than enough to carry the signal even over long runs, but there were two reasons I didn't go with it. One reason is that doorbell wire is solid wire. But if people might step on the wire, or I want to roll up and transport the parts of this project, stranded wire is far more durable, so I wanted to make sure to use it for the extra reliability. The other reason is that it was on sale :) I decided on buying a 25m roll and having each cable be 2m long - which is probably somewhat overkill again, but for things like cable length, I'd rather go too long than too short.
But hey, we've got over the mountain that is the boring and repetitive part of the project, and now we can ride down the hill to the finish!
Wait, no, that would have been too easy. Of course there's problems.
There was something that I completely missed in my test from the first post. I only had one floor switch, so I didn't try an actual song, which would have uncovered a big issue with using Key Mapper: it doesn't support pressing multiple buttons at once. If one player holds down a switch for a hold note, and another player taps their switch, the hold immediately ends. And of course, I didn't notice that problem until I actually had multiple floor switches completed.
After a few hours of searching and experimenting, I could only find one other app that worked. It is called Mantis, and it sucks. It contains ads, requires a weird and completely intransparent set up procedure through a wireless ADB debugging session, you must map the inputs of the arcade controller board to an Xbox controller layout before you can use them or they'll just be ignored, there's an unremovable menu button on your screen at all times, the map can't be programmatically disabled to stop the buttons from inputting for a moment, and I've found it's maybe a little unreliable? It just suddenly stopped while the game was running once. But as I said, it's the only one that I've found that works. So, I'll have to live with it. At least it supports the holds that Key Mapper doesn't do. So, you can play the game fine now. We can get back to finishing up the setup.
But before that, have you noticed though some of the mapped tap locations for the buttons are slightly off from the center of the spots in the game? I intentionally moved them a little, so they still hit the tap spots during Lives, but miss certain menu buttons! For example, the tap locations for spots 4 and 6 are moved down, so they don't hit the menu buttons while the game is paused. Otherwise, the player on floor switch 6 could accidentally use up my loveca if they kept stomping on the button after their stamina ran out and continued…
Here's everything connected together! The nine completed switches, all linked up to the board, and all that's left to do is set up Mantis and the HDMI output on the phone, plug in the single USB-C cable, and it's ready to play!
But before we plug everything into the phone, I really quickly want to note something about the adapter: The adapter required for this project was not just about needing a way to go from USB-A to USB-C - after all, that could have been solved even easier by just replacing the USB-B-to-A cable of the board with a USB-B-to-C cable and connecting it directly to the phone. As you might have been able to tell from the cover picture from the first post, playing BIG SIF on the phone screen is kind of... not optimal. So, the adapter had to have both an USB-A port and an HDMI port, so you could show the game on a TV or projector!
The adapter I ended up picking not only had those two ports, but also two more USB-A sockets and an USB-C socket. The USB-C port is for power delivery - everything runs off of the phone battery if it is not used, but this allows you to use a powerbank to extend the battery, or just plug in a wall charger so you don't have to worry about it at all. And the other USB-A ports come in really handy, as well. One of them can be used for an Ethernet adapter, which can vastly improve the stability of the required internet connection, if available. As for the other USB-A... one problem I hadn't considered at all is the game menus. As in, song selection and actually getting into the game. Of course, you could always just walk over to the phone, and try to find the correct tap spot on the screen that is turned off, then walk back to the switches - but there's a better approach thanks to that last USB port, with a wireless keyboard I had around already:
This one in particular is a wireless keyboard and touchpad combo, which gets recognized as a generic keyboard and mouse on any device you can plug it into - including Android. So now, you can use the touchpad on that to move around a cursor and do the menuing that way, without having to run back and forth! It's still a little awkward to control the pointer via the touchpad, but there's more that you can do: the keyboard part is not actually needed for this project, since we don't need to type any text... and Key Mapper is sitting idle now that we replaced it with Mantis, so how about we pass the keyboard to it? The keyboard won't have to deal with multiple simultaneous presses, so by setting up keys from it in Key Mapper, we can get an entire keyboard worth of buttons to map even more taps to! That way, instead of having to move the cursor across the screen, you can select and start songs by just pressing a few keys in order. And Mantis still handles the floor switches, so holding down the buttons still works fine, no matter how many are pressed.
Also, yes, I am planning to run regular Lives when playing on this. You might be wondering - "Why? There's a Rehearsal mode now, wouldn't that be better for something like this?" And the answer is yes, it absolutely would be, since I don't have to care about LP or running out of HP during a Live then! But the Rehearsal mode has a static background (see video below) instead of the cool Live Monitor, so I'll be happy to sacrifice my LP candies for the cool effects :) I'm not going to ever use all of them, anyways. And as for the HP problem, I could just add some healers... and if anyone ever wants to see how badly a Master chart would go, I can still start a Rehearsal by clicking on that button using the touch pad.
~~~ a quick little bit of an aside
Speaking of Rehearsal though, even if I'm not using that mode - can I just say how much I appreciate SIF2's gameplay direction? It just feels like the game is far more about "having fun just playing songs" than SIF1. There's changes like the ability to restart songs right from the pause menu if you're aiming for an FC, not losing LP if you fail, all songs being unlocked from the start - but also, obviously, the addition of the Rehearsal mode, where you can play any song without using LP and with infinite HP. One key result of this kind of design is that the game is far less punishing for making a mistake, and I think it invites people to challenge themselves to higher difficulties. There's no need to play it safe anymore: If you're curious about whether you could pass a Master chart, you can just play it, without having to worry about failing and wasting resources anymore. If the chart ends up being too hard, you don't lose any LP or other resources. You can choose to either run it back as many times as you want, or to play another song, neither option carrying any penalty. That makes the harder difficulties so much more approachable, and I think it's a fantastic change.
~~~ back to your regularly scheduled programming
With the system fully set up, it can finally be played! The problem being, I don't have nine players here, just one. I tried a couple times, but it went about as well as you'd expect, even on Normal - it's kind of hard to consistenly find and hit the floor switches while staring at the screen. But it does work! All the buttons work great (as long as I can hit them)! And even with me stepping on the connectors and cables and kicking the switches around by accident, they don't immediately break.
So with that, the project is technically done! All the switches are functional, you can play BIG SIF as intended, and I can bring the controller system anywhere. That's a massive milestone done, of course - but overall, this project still very much in the "janky mess of cables" state. So there's still some stuff to do...
On the next part of Making BIG SIF2: making it nice, making it good. Probably at least a box to put everything in, maybe something to improve reliability, maybe make the interface something better than just a keyboard with labels on it? Let's see how far I can take this
update: you can find the third part here!

I just watched a 60 minutes interview with James Cameron about this and there’s a clip of Stockton piloting his toy sub with visible condensation inside the window. He’s in his socks with a game controller going around in circles in the dark at depths unimaginably deep. He had no idea what literal pressure he was under and that literal pressure literally killed him.
I have a theory that the expert who Stockton hired, Paul-Henri Nargeolet, knew exactly how bad it was. PH had a personal death wish after the death of his wife and wanted to rest his body at the wreckage site because…well. people who get obsessive over titanic probably get it. It’s so incredibly dark down at the bottom of the sea floor and if you don’t know where you are going and what direction the ocean currents are you can easily get caught in the iron cables that held the smokestacks to the deck. It’s insanely dangerous for so many factors other than there’s a lot of water. Basically the entire thing was a shit show from the start and the only reason it continued and concluded the way it did is because of money.
Capitalism. Full stop.
i read the recent wired article about the ocean gate titanic sub and i think the most understatedly eyebrow raising aspect of that whole debacle honestly is that the ceo seems to have been personally manning half their unsafe deep sea dives... like usually in a story like this it turns out the people at the top were brushing off safety concerns because they knew they personally could avoid consequences and were willing to risk their employees and customers. and im sure there were some people at ocean gate doing that. but stockton rush was as far as i can tell genuinely convinced of his own genius corner cutting engineering hacks to the point where he kept manning these vessels even after tests where they were failing and warnings from university labs and boeing engineers and hearing the hull make ominous creaking sounds while he himself was piloting it like... man with zero survival instincts to a point seldom seen in wealthy startup assholes who absolutely have the financial wherewithal to save their own necks
#the only people allowed to go near my gf (the wreck of the titanic) are fellow obsessive nerds who RESPECT. HER. AND. PHYSICS#leave her aloneeeeeee she’s just sitting pretty doing her thing let the scientists watch and document her rot away#rms titanic#oceangate

How to Care for Your Trees after They've Been Trimmed
Making sure your trees stay healthy and vibrant after cutting requires proper care. Your trees may need extra care to recover completely after a tree trimming San Diego. This entails giving the plant enough water, mulch, and fertilizer, keeping an eye out for stress indicators, and taking precautions against pests. Your tree's recovery might be further aided by seeking professional advice and providing structural support where necessary. By following these guidelines, you may support the growth and ongoing enhancement of your landscape with trees.
1. Giving Your Trees Water
Your trees may require more water after tree trimming service, especially in dry seasons, to help them recover. Deep watering is essential to strengthen the tree's roots and increase their depth. Water the soil thoroughly and slowly to enable deep penetration of the water. Though it's generally recommended to water deeply once a week, the watering frequency will vary depending on the type of tree, the kind of soil, and the weather.
2. Mulching
Mulching is an excellent method for controlling soil temperature, weed development, and moisture retention. Cover the tree's base with organic mulch, such as bark or wood chips. Make sure the mulch is applied in a circle that reaches the tree's drip line; do not pile it up against the trunk, as this may cause decay and attract pests. A coating between two and four inches thick is perfect.
3. Applying fertilizer
Your tree might benefit from extra nutrients to encourage new growth following pruning. To gradually add vital nutrients, use a balanced slow-release fertilizer. Fertilization is best done when the tree is actively growing in early spring or late autumn. To prevent overfertilizing, which could damage the tree, follow the manufacturer's directions carefully.
4. Pruning Treatment for Wounds
Tree wounds during pruning can serve as points of entrance for pests and diseases after tree trimming San Diego. Even though many trees recover independently, you can speed up the process by ensuring the wounds are well-sealed and clean. If a tree wound dressing or pruning sealer is advised for your particular tree species, use it; however, it is usually best to let the tree recover itself. Look for any symptoms of infection or pest activity in the clipped areas.
5. Monitor for Stress Signs
Following pruning, keep a close eye out for any indications of stress or decline on your tree, such as browning, wilting leaves, or unusual leaf drop. Pest infestations, poor trimming, and environmental circumstances are a few examples of things that can induce stress. When stress symptoms are identified early on, you can address the situation quickly by making necessary adjustments to your watering schedule, treating the area, or seeking the advice of a qualified arborist.
6. Protection Against Insects and Diseases
Trees that have been trimmed may be more vulnerable to diseases and pests. Check your trees regularly after tree trimming service for any indications of infestation, such as abnormal growths, discolored leaves, or holes in the bark. If problems are found, take quick corrective action by applying fungicides, insecticidal sprays, or natural insect repellents. Tree health maintenance, including regular fertilization, mulching, and watering, can help increase a tree's resistance to pests and diseases.
7. Structure Support
If large branches were cut off during pruning, your tree may require extra support to preserve its structural integrity. For weak or exposed branches, use bracing or cabling procedures. This can prevent additional harm and assist the tree in growing a sturdy, well-balanced structure.
8. Speak with an Expert Arborist
See a qualified arborist if your tree requires extensive pruning or if it begins to exhibit symptoms of discomfort following pruning. An arborist can detect tree problems, suggest suitable remedies, and offer professional advice on tree care. A professional's routine examinations can guarantee that your trees stay robust and healthy for many years.
Conclusion
After pruning, proper maintenance is essential to the longevity and health of the tree. By giving your trees enough water, mulching, fertilizing, keeping an eye out for stress indicators, guarding against pests and diseases, and providing structural support, you can make sure they heal properly. You should also know how tree planting services can help combat climate change. Tree planting is also important. It's also critical to seek professional counsel when necessary. Well-maintained trees improve the look of your landscape and make the surrounding area healthier. Trust Higuera Tree Care to maintain the health and beauty of your trees with professional tree care and trimming services.

draft 2
There were eyes in the dark, always observing. Their slit pupils watching and watching and never wavering, not even for a second while I worked. From the top of the antenna I could see them as well as I could down there. They didn't bother me though, the chief officer of repair told me that it was a normal occurrence in these forests, deep in the heart of China. I trusted the chief, he was wise and old and had been here since before the revolts, his advice was sparse but if you didn't listen to him it was likely you wouldn't be back home for summer. He'd keep you working all year long.
I clipped the last cable in place and heard the 800kv current running through it, it's low hum was music to my ears. A job well done. Ever since the global electric grid was made possible, the number of jobs for electricians tripled so here I was. Far from everyone but well paid.
I took a final look over the horizon, the line of antennae making the slight curve of the earth visible, each one a little smaller than the last.
I checked my belay and got ready to go down when I saw the eyes again but this time they were moving, I hadn't seen them do that before. Slowly, they started circling my tower. It made me uncomfortable how well I could see them from this far up, everything else was a blur but the pairs of glowing orbs kept being incredibly detailed. I was too off put and just focused on the metal in front of me, cold hard *real* metal.

Okay, so here's the wiring diagram for a YBR125.
I'd confirmed with the multimeter that the key barrel was an issue, so here I am trying to bypass that sucker with various bits of wire and an old clip as a ground.
Seconds later I would decide the clip sucked and clamp the ground to the frame with a nut and bolt instead, but I was too hype to stop and take a picture, so you get this instead. Pls know that bad grounds are quite often the main fault with fucked electrics, so make sure yours is good if you're doing diagnostics like this.
I managed to get the dash turned on like this — by connecting that white cable with a bullet connector into the red main and then jabbing the bare copper end into the central port of the electrical connector.
To check for spark, I removed the sparkplug boot, stuck a spare spark plug in that boot, held the spark plug tip about 3mm from a bare bolt, and pressed the starter — you'll see the spark if it's good.
Mine was not good. I tried connecting the CDI to the live as well, which was stupid; if you look at the wiring diagram, the brown wire that goes to the dash also circles around to the CDI, so the CDI wire needed to be grounded. But this became clear to me soon afterward anyway, as I decided to take apart my key barrel.
This was cool to see, as basic as it is. There are four connection points on that blue disc, two on either side, and when the key turns, it connects them in those pairs. So, by flipping it over to see which wires are soldered into which points...
I see that when the key turns, the red live connects to the brown wire down to the dash etc, and the black and grey CDI cable connects to the ground.
I cut the wires loose from the key barrel mechanism, connected red to brown and black to grey-black, bound them up with electrical tape, and plugged them back in as the key barrel had been.
And oh.
The little YBR lives.
