Johann Christian Bach Sinfonia For Double Orchestra In E Flat Major (1951)
Publication date 1951
Thor Martin Johnson Conductor
Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra
Johann Christian Bach, the youngest son of the illustrious Johann Sebastian Bach, left an indelible mark on the world of music with his innovative compositions. Among his remarkable works, the Sinfonia for Double Orchestra in E Flat Major stands as a testament to his mastery of orchestration and melodic ingenuity.
Composed during the height of the Baroque era, Johann Christian Bach’s Sinfonia for Double Orchestra in E Flat Major exemplifies the grandeur and opulence characteristic of the period. The utilization of a double orchestra, comprising two separate groups of instrumentalists, imparts a sense of sonic splendor and expansiveness, creating a rich tapestry of sound that captivates the listener from the opening bars.
The sinfonia unfolds with a majestic Adagio introduction, characterized by lush harmonies and regal fanfares that establish a sense of grandeur and solemnity. This leads seamlessly into the spirited Allegro, where Bach’s melodic prowess and contrapuntal mastery are showcased in full splendor. The intertwining melodies between the two orchestras create a sense of musical dialogue, evoking a dynamic and immersive auditory experience.
The central Andante movement transports the listener to a realm of serene tranquility, as the intertwining melodies and delicate orchestration imbue the music with an ethereal charm. Here, Bach’s gift for lyrical expression and emotive depth shines through, enveloping the audience in a world of introspection and contemplation.
The sinfonia reaches its apex with the exuberant Presto finale, a tour de force of orchestral virtuosity and rhythmic vitality. The double orchestra’s interplay reaches a crescendo, culminating in a jubilant and triumphant conclusion that leaves an indelible impression on the listener.
Johann Christian Bach’s Sinfonia for Double Orchestra in E Flat Major stands as a testament to the composer’s innovative spirit and enduring legacy. Its amalgamation of grandeur, contrapuntal intricacy, and emotive depth positions it as a quintessential work of the Baroque orchestral repertoire.
This sinfonia serves as a compelling embodiment of Bach’s prodigious talent and unwavering musical vision, showcasing his ability to push the boundaries of orchestral composition while honoring the rich traditions of the Baroque era. Its timeless allure continues to captivate audiences and stands as a testament to Johann Christian Bach’s remarkable contributions to the realm of classical music.
In conclusion, Johann Christian Bach’s Sinfonia for Double Orchestra in E Flat Major invites us to immerse ourselves in a sonic tapestry that transcends temporal boundaries, speaking to the depths of human emotion and artistic expression.

Earlier today, I had the honor and the privelege of attending the Cincinatti Opera's production of La Traviata and, if I may, I would like to congratulate the Cincinatti Opera for just how incredibly moving their performance was today.
Today's performance was absolutely gorgeous and stunning, and I would like to discuss it.
First, Anthony Clark Evans' performance as Giorgio Germont was incredible. His performance in act 2 was stunning, and his remarkable presence on the stage added a lot to the character. I particularly liked his performance of "Di Provenza il mar".
Next, Santiago Ballerini as Alfred was an absolute delight. He performed the role with a candid earnestness to the character that really worked well here. This earnestness worked incredibly well in "Parigi, o cara," making this duet absolutely heartwrenching.
Finally, Gilda Fiume as Violetta was a casting done in heaven, and sounded absolutely beyond incredible. Ms. Fiume sang this role in such a perfect way that I can no longer imagine anyone else in this role. She seems to have that rare kind of perfect and total control over her voice that most singers can only dream of. This control meant that her expression was always perfect, while never compromising her technique.
As a final note, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra performed their role perfectly, soaring where they needed to and backing off where they needed to. Congratulation is in order for how perfect they played tonight.
This performance was a dream, and I wish I could see it again. Again, a complete triumph for the Cincinnati Opera today.

Murder At Music Hall (A True North Murder Mystery Book 1) by A. J. Ullman.
Trueman "True" North is a private investigator in Cincinnati and his life and past experiences mean that he knows all about Death and even feels like they are just hovering and waiting for his luck to run out, but he is haunted and very much an outsider, however, when he is hired by one of the richest men in his town, he realises just how far outside he is.
St. John Skidmore is a business man with a need for justice for his son Stoddard who was brutally murdered at the Music Hall while practicing the timpani which he played for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and it was brutal but he believes that the wrong person was arrested and convicted, so he wants True to take a look and see what he can find.
As True gathers all the evidence, witness statements and court papers, he conducts his own interviews to find out what he can about Stoddard and his life in and around the music hall, all while trying to juggle his personal life in the process, but as he digs deeper into the case, he finds that the rich are a law unto themselves.
There are more skeletons hidden in the proverbial closets of family, friends, colleagues and rivals that True's moral compass is spinning and between meddling sisters, jilted lovers, monetary incentives and threats galore, will True be able to hold onto his ideals and put the right person away, or will money win over truth? This is a murder mystery which is full of twists, turns, secrets and lies, where nothing is straight laced and money talks, or silences, depending on the situation as you follow along on this thrilling dig into the ghosts of the untouchable.

My Success Was Also My Curse Composer Lalo Schifrin #soundtrack #shorts_...
Lalo Schifrin, legendary composer of scores for Dirty Harry, Bullitt, Cincinnati Kid, Cool Hand Luke, Brubaker, #missionimpossible etc, talks about being type cast as an action/ adventure composer and not receiving a shot at the bigger hit films from genres like Summer of 42. Ironically the Argentine composer's early works including Bossa Nova and stints with jazz legends like, Chet Baker, Dizzy Gillespie and Louie Bellson were far from what Hollywood thought he was made for. The pianist later on created a musical path outside of movies that combined all forms and genres of music working small ensembles and symphony orchestras.
