Démarré au piano en ébauche, c’est pour finir une étendue d’orchestration digne d’un péplum que le Norvégien Ihsahn aka Vegard Tveitan a engendré dans son opus éponyme.

« L'art fait appel à la métaphysique et aux archétypes de notre existence - il nous permet de faire face aux expériences liées à une perte, à la mort, à l'amour - il nous prépare à toutes ces choses d'une certaine manière. C'est la valeur, la perspective, à partir de laquelle je souhaite créer. » Ihsahn

Vous souvenez-vous du moment où un tourbillon monstrueux et dément s'était emparé de vous ?

Ce disque est un château, hanté de meringue et de chantilly progressive, avec des herses, des meurtrières, et des machicoulis de buvard d’acide metAl comme un vent fort, impétueux et sans relâche. Peut-être parviendrez-vous à ressentir ces sentiments qui semblent si grands dans la poitrine comme si quelque chose était si beau que ça faisait mal.

C’est une corde lumineuse à la Tolkien et sacrée dans le tumulte noir et orageux, le reflet lumineux d'une étoile pâle dans l'écume bouillonnante des vagues sombres d'un volcan en ébullition …Quand le maelström s'immobilise sur une mer plus calme, les eaux bouillantes en dessous refont surface pour formuler le suspense à Hitchcock

Ihsahn est un artiste, visionnaire d’un territoire qu��il peint à travers son metal progressif impressionniste et cinématographique. D’ailleurs ce huitième album studio est disponible en deux versions l'une métal, l'autre symphonique.

C’est une genèse de lumière dans un cloître sombre qui s’élève, hantant tous les rites dans une largesse créative que l’obscurité des églises humides abondent d’une pâle figure à côté. Ihsahn fait éclore des frémissements progressifs où couvaient les sarcophages musicaux, les titres apportent un souffle chaud, le battement veineux d’une musique hors sol, à travers l’apparition spectrale de votre propre imagination. Vous allez palpiter et trembler devant la tempête qui se déverse comme un ouragan dans une éternité de rugissements soniques, de convulsions infernales, pour une messe sombre assit sur le Golgotha, aux pieds de l'humanité crucifiée. Vous pouvez être certain que l'abîme s'ouvrira, où l'âme pénétrée par de amples mystères tremblant d'agitation, viendra s’illuminer dans la splendeur de sa propre nudité.

Ce travail d'auteur expose des créations gargantuesques, qu’il considère comme l'un des projets les plus complexes qu'il ait jamais entrepris. Entièrement auto-produite et enregistrée sur une période de trois ans, la version métal a été mixée par Jens Bogren, la version orchestrale par Joel Dollié et les deux étant masterisées par Tony Lindgren. Ihsahn est accompagné de Tobias Ørnes Andersen et Tobias Solbakk à la batterie et aux percussions, ainsi qu’au percussions de son fils, Angell Solberg Tveitan, les violons sont signés Chris Baum. L'illustration de l'album est signée Ritxi Ostariz et toutes les photographies promotionnelles ont été réalisées par Andy Ford.

Ihsahn explique : « En moyenne, je sors un album complet tous les deux ans et ce depuis que j'ai 16 ans. Pour mon huitième album solo, je me suis demandé comment je pouvais faire ce que je faisais de mieux, tout en plaçant la barre encore plus haut. Au cœur de mon travail, il y a le black metal, les guitares distordues à l'extrême et les cris, mais depuis les premiers enregistrements d'Emperor, on entend des parties de claviers influencées par les bandes originales classiques de Jerry Goldsmith, John Williams, Bernard Herrmann, John Carpenter, etc. J'ai donc abordé l'écriture avec l'intention de présenter le matériel dans sa pleine expression métallique, mais aussi d'arranger les parties orchestrales de manière à ce qu'elles fonctionnent de façon indépendante. D'une certaine façon, j'ai tenté d'écrire une bande sonore dans le cadre des structures de la production complète, ce qui m'a permis d'explorer différentes variations, parfois contrastées, d'une même musique. En fin de compte, j'ai écrit toute la musique comme une partition courte pour piano et je l'ai arrangée pour un ensemble typique et un orchestre, en veillant à ce que tout s'imbrique. »

Cet opus est une odyssée wagnérienne dont le périple du héros est un musicien autodidacte nommé Ihsahn donnant corps et âme, nuit et jour à une vision pantagruélique dans une paire de récits distincts. L’entrelacement des textures sonores ciselées à satiété transportent leurs expressions cinématographiques épiques dans une ferveur liturgique.

« Pour créer quelque chose de valable, on ne peut pas uniquement aller vers ce que le public attend, il faut savoir viser plus haut. Lorsqu'on a l'opportunité de faire un disque, il serait prétentieux de penser que ce sera le prochain Dark Side Of The Moon, OK Computer, ou Black Album, mais, d'une certaine manière, il serait aussi arrogant de ne pas essayer ! ?! Il est vrai que c'est le projet musical le plus difficile et le plus complexe que j'aie jamais réalisé, et, en fin de compte, d'un point de vue personnel, c'est aussi le plus gratifiant. J'ai vraiment dû me surpasser et j'ai beaucoup appris au cours de ce processus » dixit Ihsahn

Week 6 : Digital Citizenship & Slow Fashion Movement

Refresher of Digital Citizenship

Digital Citizenship is the ability to navigate our digital environments in a way that's safe and responsible to actively and respectfully engage in digital spaces (Zook, 2022).

The Rise of Slow Fashion

The slow fashion movement is the need to adopt sustainable performance and change core values in the fashion industry. The idea of the slow fashion movement is to preserve the natural resources and provide garments with good quality (Oliveira, 2022).

The slow fashion movement was introduced after the influence of the slow food movement founded by Carlo Petrini in 1986.  In today's society the slow fashion movement relates closely to digital citizenship, with the idea of prioritising respect for others online.

The Idea of Slow Fashion

The slow fashion movement preaches a more conscious consumption. Slow fashion emphasises the use of seasonal raw materials (Kahn, 2009). Retailers around the world have recently been more conscious about sustainable brand labelling. The movement encourages brands to embrace quality braces rather than time-based business, including slow production, ethical attitudes and long lasting products (Domingos, 2022). 

There are four guiding principles to qualify a fashion label sustainable. The guiding principles include the items being child labour free, materials being utilised in production and long term relationships with suppliers (Solberg, 2020). The following principles increase consumer satisfaction and brand reputation. Consumers are increasingly looking for unique products and designs , as they are willing to pay more for quality products.

Por segunda vez gana Neuville y Hyundai en España

Thierry Neuville ha conseguido su segunda victoria de la temporada en el Campeonato del Mundo de Rally de la FIA con un triunfo rotundo en el RallyRACC - Rallye de España.

La undécima y penúltima prueba del Campeonato del Mundo de Rallies de la FIA ha concluido hoy domingo en el podio del Passeig Jaume I de Salou con la segunda victoria consecutiva de Thierry Neuville-Martijn Wydaeghe (Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC), tras la conseguida por el piloto y la marca en la última edición celebrada en 2019. El equipo belga ha dominado la carrera desde la primera jornada de competición, situándose primeros a partir del quinto tramo y manteniendo la posición hasta el decimoséptimo con el que ha finalizado la competición. La prueba organizada por el RACC ha vivido un gran éxito en todos los aspectos.

La tercera y última etapa se ha disputado esta mañana con dos pasadas por los tramos de Santa Marina (9,10 km) y Riudecanyes (16,35 km), siendo la segunda de éste el Power Stage que ha otorgado puntos adicionales a los cinco primeros clasificados. Con las dos primeras posiciones consolidadas por Thierry Neuville y Elfyn Evans, respectivamente como primero y segundo, el interés se ha centrado en la progresión de Dani Sordo-Cándido Carrera (Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC), que han sido los más rápidos en todos los tramos celebrados en esta jornada desbancando así de la tercera plaza a Sébastien Ogier-Julien Ingrassia (Toyota Yaris WRC), posición que habían ocupado durante las dos jornadas previas. Los españoles han ganado el Power Stage por delante precisamente de los dos primeros clasificados, Neuville y Evans.

Además, el equipo Thierry Neuville-Martijn Wydaeghe y su Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC han logrado en Salou su segundo triunfo de la temporada tras el conseguido en el Ypres Rally de su país, Bélgica. La segunda posición de Elfyn Evans-Scott Martin (Toyota Yaris WRC) les permite seguir con opciones al título, que se resolverá en la última prueba de la temporada, mientras que Dani Sordo-Cándido Carrera (Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC) han sido los verdaderos protagonistas de este último día al ganarlo todo y hacerse el piloto cántabro con su segundo podio del año –el otro fue en Portugal–, primero para su copiloto, el gallego Cándido Carrera.

Sébastien Ogier-Julien Ingrassia (Toyota Yaris WRC) se han tenido que conformar con la cuarta posición, aunque siguen contando con suficiente margen para intentar alzarse con su octavo título mundial en Monza el próximo mes de noviembre. Kalle Rovanperä-Jonne Halttunen (Toyota Yaris WRC) han ocupado la quinta plaza con los españoles Nil Solans-Marc Martí clasificándose en octavo lugar, en su debut con un Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC.

El Campeonato del Mundo de Rallies de la FIA finalizará con el ACI Rally Monza en Italia, que se celebrará del 18 al 21 de noviembre y en el que se decidirán los títulos mundiales de Pilotos, entre Sébastien Ogier y Elfyn Evans, de Copilotos, entre Julien Ingrassia y Scott Martin, y de Constructores, al que optan Toyota y Hyundai, además del campeonato soporte WRC3 entre Yohan Rossel y Kajetan Kajetanowicz.

Doug “Cosmo” Clifford- MAGIC WINDOW (SELF RELEASED/ CONCORD MUSIC PUBLISHING)

As most of you know Doug “Cosmo” Clifford rose to fame as drummer in the great Creedence Clearwater Revival (he then kept it going with bassist Stu Cook for many years as Creedence Clearwater Revisited). What a lot of folks don’t know is that Clifford recorded a solo album in his Lake Tahoe, NV home back in 1985. He had full band with bassist Chris Solberg, rhythm guitarist Rob Polomsky and engineer/guitarist Russell DaShiell and the record, while sounding very 80’s, is a definitely solid and, at times, very good. Clifford stated once he didn’t like to drum and sing at the same time as the singing gets in the way of moving around the way I like to.”  On to the songs, the first single “Just Another Groove” is almost a power ballad with its soothing synth work while “You Mean So Much to Me” Is another ballad with Clifford pouring his heart out, in fact, love seems to be a major theme here. He gets a chance to rock out (actually more of groove) on cuts like “Don’t Let Go” and the straight up pop of “Don’t Leave Me Alone Tonight” and “Fallin For You.”  Apparently Clifford has several albums worth of this stuff in his closet, so hopefully that material will see the light of day sometime, but in the meantime, give Magic Window a listen. Prue Stent is a photographer and artist based in Melbourne, Australia.

Creative duo Honey Long and Prue Stent are multidisciplinary artists whose work is a co-mingling between photography, performance, installation and sculpture. Their practice centres around their conflicted relationship to femininity and its passive associations. Often their process is spontaneous and playful with the result being unexpected and accidental. Along with many shared interests and fascinations they have a perverse curiosity to interact with alluring materials and objects, incorporating them into costumes or disguises which distort and fragment the bodily form. As a result cultural debris becomes reconfigured within fluid and dreamy contexts, triggering subconscious associations while also evading classification.
