After Crafting American Criminal Justice, Christians Keep Changing the Rules
After Crafting American Criminal Justice, Christians Keep Changing the Rules
By Chris Hutton The News Station In the 1640s, New England had a peculiar problem: “Something close to a bestiality panic,” historian John Murrin wrote. Teenagers were whipped, and at least four men — one each from the Plymouth, New Haven, Massachusetts Bay and Connecticut colonies — were publicly hanged after being found guilty. The peculiar problem plaguing the New England colonies wasn’t…

PORTRAIT OF AN EDITOR podcast premieres 9/25/17
by Francis of Antix Press
Here are the comic book editors I have put in the box so far. (Homicide: Life on the Streets fans will get the reference.)
PORTRAIT OF AN EDITOR sprung from a conversation I had with a friend a year ago. Months later I finally realized it.
There has been a lot of learning in the process. Realizing how I sound and how to control my personal “ticks” while gabbing is one of them. Getting down the tech was another. I’m still working on all of those, but I’m pretty happy with the how they are coming along.
I plan on doing this for a while and getting much better as I move forward.
Here are the release dates for the first 5 podcasts. Please listen early and download often.
Andy Schmidt of Comics Experience parts 1 & 2 release date 9/25
Alex Donoghue of Humanoids Publishing release date 10/2
Chris Murrin of Athena Voltaire release date 10/16
Taylor Smith of Space Goat release date 10/30
Erik Hendrix of Arcana Studio release date 11/13
You will be able to find PORTRAIT OF AN EDITOR on Podomatic, iTunes and Google Play.

Lifted: Of Gods & Thieves [Shawn Pryor]
Lifted: Of Gods & Thieves [Shawn Pryor] #bookblog #bookbloggers When it's just okay...
When I first read Lifted: Of Gods & Thievesby Shawn Pryor with Keith Cunningham and Chris Murrin, I remember enjoying it. The sad thing, though, is that I don’t really remember much else. And that’s the thing that bugs me. Despite the fact that I can generally tell you what this book is about, know what happened in the plot, and remember liking it but I’m not able to recall the character names or…

Blue Man Group
Blue Man Group is a creative organization centered on a trio of mute performers that present themselves in blue paint, latex bald caps, and black clothing. Friends Chris Wink, Matt Goldman and Phil Stanton (collectively referred to as CMP) conceived the idea during the 1980s while in New York City. They began appearing on the streets in Blue Man regalia, entertaining passersby, staging unusual events such as "The Funeral For the 80s", and short bits in Tom Murrin’s "The Alien Comic’s" underground cabarets in "The CLUB" at La MaMa Experimental Theater Club.

Ghoul Scouts in I Was A Tweenage Werewolf #4
Ghoul Scouts in I Was A Tweenage Werewolf #4 Action Lab Entertainment 2018 Written & Lettered by Steve Bryant Illustrated by Mark Stegbauer Coloured by Jason Millet Lettered by Chris Murrin Colour Assists by Drew Browne The exciting finale to I WAS A TWEENAGE WEREWOLF! The identity of the werewolf is revealed, but can the scouts defeat it? Also, more details on the mystery surrounding the town of Full Moon Hollow! I have one thing to say, why wasn’t this up for Ringo for best kids series? I mean seriously folks this is one of the best all around all-ages book on sale right now and that it doesn’t even get a mention is shameful. This has all the elements of the old Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew to them and side by side this is way better than Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse. Maybe because we get a lot more time for some incredible characterisation and the fact that Steve doesn’t rely on one thing, see gag, and has the kids actually grow with each issue of each adventure. I like the way that this has been structured as Steve manages to really create a wonderful ebb & flow to the proceedings. Also that he doesn’t mind ending with a cliffhanger and picking up in the midst of it. At the fourth issue either you’re in or you’re not so why follow rules that aren’t needed. Also this town is like Whitney Houston, cracked out because every time you turn around they kids are meeting new folks, making new friends and learning that right now only they among the muggles know what’s what. Of course once they reach a certain age and get brainwashed to forget and the cycle starts all over again. The introduction of new characters is great and while it is nice to see that Steve has the forethought to diversify the people we see and meet is just an added bonus. Plus while Teen Wolf, the television series not films, explored more versions of the lycanthropy seeing them again here adds to that mystique which those characters brought. Also who didn’t watch Teen Wolf it was actually a good show. Each arc Steve manages to expand the world or at least the town the kids live in and he does without it feeling forced or too much no it feels right when your reading it and that’s something that doesn’t come along every day. Mark’s interiors here really work well with the all-ages theme. Still he also manages to keep this nice diversity going on and with Jason’s colours it really stands out. The animals look great and not so much menacing to us as they would to the kids. The utilisation of page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels shows off a very good eye for storytelling. That only one of them is too cool for school in the matter of wearing a uniform matches the personality beautifully. That we see all the trees and such in the backgrounds gives the reader a sense of scope and adds more than I expect from an all-ages book. Well it would appear that everything ends well for our intrepid group of scouts and their new friend has new friends to help her with her condition. It has the ending of a half hour comedy ala The Brady Bunch but it takes four issues to tell so I call that a win-win. Though I have to wonder if the group now has a new member and one with those canine features wouldn’t be a bad thing to have around. I love the final pages in this issue and it looks like Miss Chung and the mystery surrounding her will be explored next and I can’t wait. Fun, quirky and a great way to segway from kids franchises to adult ones all the while getting a nice lesson in that it takes all kinds and just because someone is different doesn’t mean you can’t be their friend.

1930s adventuress Athena Voltaire is admittedly inspired by Doc Savage, the Shadow, and other giants of the pulp era, and now she’s starring in her own collection of pulp-style stories. This November, Action Lab Entertainment unleashes Athena Voltaire Pulp Tales—a collection of two-fisted stories that send the aviatrix across the globe and back again!
Contributors to this volume include Tom King (Batman, Vision), Corinna Bechko & Gabriel Hardman (Invisible Republic), Genevieve Pearson (TBS’ King of the Nerds), Dirk Manning (Nightmare World), and over a dozen more. They take Athena Voltaire around the globe, battling supernatural creatures, power-hungry occultists, and, of course, Nazis. Along the way she rubs elbows with the most famous figures of the 1930s and becomes part of some of the most pivotal moments in history.
“It’s amazing to see the different takes on the character,” said creator Steve Bryant. ”It’s a real pleasure—and challenge—to tackle what each author has come up with.”

According to co-editor and writer Chris Murrin, the book has something for everyone. “While the stories are action-packed in the pulp tradition, each author brought their own influences to the table as well, so there are elements of horror, romance, mystery, suspense, and even some philosophy in the mix,” he said.
In addition to penning one of the stories, Bryant illustrates the entire volume, providing seventeen stunning black and white images, as well as collaborating on the cover with digital painter Jason Millet.
Athena Voltaire launched as part of the Modern Tales family of webcomics in 2002 and was nominated for a Best Digital Comic Eisner Award in 2005. The feature was included in St. Martin’s The Year’s Best Graphic Novels, Comics and Manga (2004 edition), and it has subsequently garnered Manning and Harvey Award nominations as well.
Athena Voltaire Pulp Tales is a 320-page illustrated prose collection, joining the 96-page trade paperback Athena Voltaire and the Volcano Goddess and the 224-page hardcover Athena Voltaire Compendium in the Action Lab library. This will be followed by the ongoing Athena Voltaire comic series, which kicks off in early 2018 with Athena Voltaire and the Sorcerer Pope. With its period setting, rapid-fire action, and strong female lead, the series is sure to appeal to fans of Indiana Jones, the Rocketeer, and Wonder Woman. ATHENA VOLTAIRE PULP TALES will be available on November 29. Preorder it with the Diamond item code SEP171036.

2016 introduced comic fans to the all-ages adventures of Action Lab’s GHOUL SCOUTS. The fan-favorite series pitted the misfit scouts against a zombie outbreak in their hometown of Full Moon Hollow. The kids return in March 2018 as a new menace threatens them in I WAS A TWEENAGE WEREWOLF!! “In the first series, it was all about bringing the kids together to save the town,” said writer/co-creator Steve Bryant. “In series two, about three months have passed since we last saw the team. They’ve been training together since then, and have bonded in the process. It’s a slightly different dynamic, and a ton of fun.”
GHOUL SCOUTS, a coming of age adventure in the spirit of The Goonies or Monster Squad, follows five middle-school scouts who live in the self-proclaimed “Paranormal Capital of the World” as they uncover the secrets of their hometown.
The entire creative team returns as Bryant is reunited with artist/co-creator Mark Stegbauer, color team Jason Millet and Drew Browne, and editor Chris Murrin. “The whole team has leveled up since our first series, and I can’t wait to share it with readers!” enthused Bryant.
