⋆˙⊹ 𝚀𝚞𝚎𝚎𝚛 𝙶𝚛𝚊𝚙𝚑𝚒𝚌 𝙽𝚘𝚟𝚎𝚕𝚜 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝙼𝚊𝚗𝚐𝚊 𝚁𝚎𝚌𝚘𝚖𝚖𝚎𝚗𝚍𝚊𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗𝚜 ⊹˙⋆
It's been a while since I've posted about book recommendations so I created one, specifically for June ✨️ Creating this queer graphic novel and maga list makes me want to reread them despite having a massive tbr this month already 😆
Anyway, I call this list "𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚍 𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚖 𝚒𝚏 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚠𝚊𝚗𝚝 𝚜𝚘𝚖𝚎𝚝𝚑𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚎𝚡𝚌𝚒𝚝𝚒𝚗𝚐, 𝚏𝚞𝚗, 𝚊𝚗𝚐𝚜𝚝𝚢, 𝚏𝚛𝚞𝚜𝚝𝚛𝚊𝚝𝚒𝚗𝚐, 𝚌𝚞𝚝𝚎, 𝚑𝚎𝚊𝚛𝚝𝚏𝚎𝚕𝚝, 𝚏𝚞𝚕𝚏𝚒𝚕𝚕𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚜𝚘𝚖𝚎𝚝𝚑𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚝𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝚠𝚒𝚕𝚕 𝚜𝚝𝚒𝚌𝚔 𝚘𝚗 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚏𝚘𝚛 𝚊 𝚕𝚘𝚗𝚐 𝚝𝚒𝚖𝚎🤚🏽."
Not gonna lie. That was what I felt when reading these mangas and graphic novels ♥️
I don't see them that much here on booksta and thought, why not post about these gems ✨️ I would say these are some of my top tier list that I have yet to see here on booksta so I'm sharing these here ✨️

I finished The Ruptured Sky! Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This was a thrilling read by indie author @jessicaamcminn : this book is the definition of grimdark! The characters come to life quickly, and her succinct writing style keeps the plot moving swiftly without sacrificing on emotional impact and character depth. I've said this already about the last book I reviewed (Forest Mage, Robin Hobb), but there are strong similarities with R.H. Kuang in this book: Kio's story, Kriah's backstory and the final fifth of the novel in general all deliver the same shocking impact of the various hard-hitting elements of Rin's story. All in all, it's a fantastic read and I can't wait to read the rest of the series! Many thanks to Jessica for the ARC! The Ruptured Sky is due for release on 4th April! . . . . . #books #fantasy #fantasyseries #grimdarkfantasy #bookreviewer #bookreviews #fivestarreviews #arcreviewer #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #indieauthor #therupturedsky https://www.instagram.com/p/Cpdoj3RrgI6/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

🐉RATING:🔥🔥🔥🔥/5 Maame, by Jessica George, follows a young woman whose life has been put on hold while she cares for her family. Naive and insecure at age 25, Maddie moves out of her family home, determined to embrace new opportunities and actively live her life. The reader is first introduced to Maddie when she is living at home and caring for her ailing father. She cooks, cleans, goes to work, feeds her father, helps him to bed and starts the routine over again the next day. In an effort to escape her constant sadness, Maddie finds a flatshare, a new job, new friends, and her first romance. But when everything crashes down, she is forced to face her depression and examine her life. There were times when I wanted to take Maddie by the shoulders and shake some sense into her. And it was a stretch to believe that a 25 year old black woman living in London would be new to the idea of racist microagressions. But eventually (and somewhat predictably) Maddie starts to stand up for herself. The book’s best characters are her two true friends Nia and Shu, who show love and support when Maddie finds herself adrift. Maame’s biggest strength is how George both realistically and respectfully depicts depression and anxiety. And Maddie isn’t the only character suffering. George includes a supporting character at the beginning of the book who refuses to take time and seek treatment because it would make her appear professionally weak. This was a well-written story and enjoyable read, despite the heavy themes. At times it felt a little too familiar. I found myself comparing elements of Maame to Queenie, Such a Fun Age, and The Other Black Girl. Maame, in contrast to those earlier titles, lacks their sarcastic bite. With its casual first person narration and straightforward prose, Maame is sure to be a general crowdpleaser. ❓What was your favorite book this month? Hello! Do you love reading fairytale, folklore, and mythological retellings? I’m always on the lookout for new retellings to add to my TBR on Goodreads and review on my blog (links in bio). Please respond to this post or reblog with any recommendations you have.
Have you written a book that retells an old fairytale, folklore, or myth? I’ve done ARC reviews and interviews for other authors on my blog, promoting their books to fellow retelling lovers. If that’s something you’d be interested in, please send me a DM with a description of the book! I love supporting authors, be they self, indie, or traditionally published.

✶ 10 Things That Never Happened by Alexis Hall ✶
Tumblr media
• Goodreads • Author •
Genres: Romance, Adult, LGBTQ+, Contemporary, Queer, Fiction
This book is Alexis Hall at his finest in my opinion. While I adore his historical romance books and more fantasy/fantastical tales there is just something so strong about his contemporary romances. The banter, the characters, the heart of it all.
In regards to the 🎧 audiobook narration- Will Watt brought such an extra wonderfulness to an already wonderful story. From the bright undertones of Sam to the uncertainty and hesitation of Jonathan he truly encapsulated so many feelings for these characters in his tones and inflictions. His accent really brings the whole thing together as well and makes the conversations and humor pop that much more.
This book is laced with the specific type of heart that only Alexis Hall seems to deliver for me. These characters had me laughing out loud one minute and wanting to cry the next. This book truly felt like making friends with the characters and rooting for them along the way to what you hope will be a HEA.
I honestly took my time over these last two days listening to it in increments because I just didn't want it to end. I would sell my soul for a second story of these two and I really hope Alexis and the publishers make that happen. (Please give Alexis all the money/permission so he can write more Sam and Jonathan!)

Oh No! There's An Incubus in my Hot Spring: Book Review
Genre: Cozy Romance/Short Story/Paranormal
Summary of the Novel:
My boyfriend cheated on me, so I bought a possibly haunted hot spring in BFE, Colorado. Oops.
To make matters worse, the owner of my competition seems determined to crush my fledgling business at every turn. Oh, and the rumors are true…there’s an incubus demon trapped in my hot spring.
Just when I thought my life might get started, I find out my rival is blocking my contractor requests, making it impossible to get this dump running again. So, in a bid to save my business, I reluctantly negotiate with the demon: his infernal magic for my business’s success. The catch? I have to let him get me hotter than the steaming waters to fuel his power and promise him freedom when my business has legs.
But what started as a purely pragmatic arrangement soon blurs into something dangerously sensual. I yearn for our charged encounters and ache for his touch. As our arrangement nears its end, and the deadline to free him looms, I face an impossible choice: protect my budding business or risk it all for the demon who has captured my heart.

Review
★★★★★
Thank you to Book Sirens and Ember Holt for this ARC Copy! I have left this review voluntarily!
---
Okay, let me preface this by saying that I am a HUGE monster romance fan. When I saw a copy of this book looking to be ARC read, my excited little hands grabbed it as soon as possible!
The story follows Sylvia and Apollo, a human and incubus, who bond while Sylvia repairs the Hot Spring that Apollo is bound to. This was a cozy romance with very minimal drama and lots of spice, and I enjoyed every single second reading this book! Usually, I like to split my books at 5 chapters a day, but I gobbled this up in 3 days!
Sylvia is a fiercely independent woman who struggles with her workaholic tendencies and the expectations of everyone who thinks she needs to rely on her scumbag ex, Jason. Meanwhile, Apollo is the cutest cinnadom and incubus who's looking for his one true mate.
The bond between Sylvia and Apollo is incredible, and the side characters were all incredible! I cheered when Jason got what he deserved, and I swear my seat grew warm when I read Sylvia and Apollo's scenes. Sylvia is a woman I absolutely want as my friend and whom I can root for, and Apollo, sweet, dear Apollo...I want my own Apollo LOL.
I will say, the ending threw me for a loop. I feel the sudden drama and reveals that happened were too quick and it felt a bit rushed. But that's just my opinion and it shouldn't stop ANYONE from reading this book, because honestly, it was incredible. I also loved the backstories, especially Apollo's, because it all made sense. The magic didn't just appear out of nowhere and there weren't any loose ends.
As for the spice...well...that's incredible. Sylvia and Apollo had amazing chemistry, both when they were watching cat-memes or being intimate. And again, Apollo is a sweetheart who needs to be protected at all costs!

𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐈𝐧 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞 Release Day and Book Review✨

When I said I just knew that I'm gonna like this new novel of hers after reading her vampire and werewolf paranormal romance, I was right 🤚🏽
I would go as to say that this romance novel captivated me from the start, the middle, and the end. I truly am invested with the drama and the tea revolving Kline and Harkness (which I really can't help but read Harkoness— I really don't know why 😆)
Anyway, the writing in this novel was much better, compelling, and flawlessly in terms of storytelling. To be brief about it, I would go as far as to say it was excellent.
The characters, on the other hand, really shine their own way. They were more developed and well written characters that I remember them from the start until the end. Tisha, I really love Tisha. She's so real. Minami, she deserves better, I hate how Florence did her dirty.
The pairing: Rue and Eli REALLY HAD CHEMISTRY. THEIR TENSION EVERYONE 🤚🏽 Eli was really pinning the most of it, and that didn't stray him off his plot most of the time. This man is really driven. Rue, another excellent woman, is equally driven and passionate. These 2 really took their time, not really complaining. Their interaction was really fun, as well as their banter. I also liked how they opened up with each other, trusting to the point of sharing tragic or traumas of the past.
The spice or the smut 🌶🌶🌶 again, they really took their time. It was HOT. I enjoyed most of it.
The drama, tea, or the conflict, IT WAS A LOT. I wish there were more of the showing of this part in the novel, as someone who's a STEM student before, I enjoyed how the STEM content here was laid, it was really interesting and intriguing, although I wish there were more if it the same wit the conflict.
Other than that, I think the most important part here is the content or conflict of power hungry org, or just anyone with power stealing intellectual property, especially of young and aspiring academic people, as well as of taking advantage of their endeavour to profit from them, worse, take their rights off of their well hard earned achievement.
I think my only issue from this book is the sudden switch from 3rd to 1st pov. That part was a little bit off for me, I didn't notice it until I took a little break and started again.
Furthermore, the conclusion as well, I wasn't fun of it, I really wish Florence did pay more for her sins. She did many people dirty, and I would go as far as to say people like her who never get punished for it would do it again if the chance aroused.
Thank you, PRH International and Berkley, for the free book ♡

The Duke's Spinster by Eliana Piers
4.5 Stars
This book was provided to me by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This novella opens with Boudicca and her sisters at a society event husband hunting, all four of them are out and this season they want to get serious about finding a husband so one of the sisters offers a wager, suggesting they all need to find themself a duke to marry. Across the dancefloor, Wesley's friend is also offering him a wager, that he must offer to marry the next eligible woman he bumps into. And then the two of them collide.
The pace of this book moved quickly introducing us to Wesley's friend group and Boudicca's exciting sisters. Wesley makes some questionable decisions and their courting scenes are hilarious with both of them trying their best to sabotage the experience and ensure no true feelings develop through their courtship. Boudicca and her sisters live up to their warrior namesakes by practicing fighting with various weapons and live on the cusp of the rules of what is proper.
This book moved me to tears; watching Boudicca have her moment of triumph over society and over the men who think themselves better than her was powerful and exciting.
I look forward to seeing the sisters get their stories in the future!

🐉RATING: 🔥🔥🔥🔥/5 🎉Happy book birthday to Hannah Whitten and The Foxglove King! The Foxglove King is full of mythology and court intrigue. Caught in the middle are the three main characters - Lore, Gabriel, and Bastian. Lore grew up working for her mothers as a poison runner and spy. Gabriel is a member of the Presque Mort, an elite cadre of monks protecting the kingdom. Bastian is the Sun Prince, a charming rogue set to inherit the throne. None of them can fully trust the others as they work together to uncover the King’s plans and stay alive. While not a fan of love triangles, I did like the three main characters and all their smoldering desire. I enjoyed how they were caught up in the power plays of church and state. They knew they were being used as pawns, but fought against their manipulation. All this maneuvering is set against a dark world with catacombs, necromancy, mysterious deaths, and a burried goddess leaking deadly “Mortem.” This is the first book in a new series, but the plot lines wrap-up enough at the end to give the reader some satisfaction. I am curious about how the relationships will play out in the next book. I expect there will be more secret maneuvering and a greater focus on the theme of destiny vs. free will. I also hope the world building expands. The threat of war is ever present in The Foxglove King, so perhaps we will learn more about the neighboring kingdom, its rulers and mythology. I’m definitely on board to continue reading this series, and eager to see how the story plays out. This eARC was provided by @orbitbooks_us and @netgalley for review. #thefoxgloveking #hannahwhitten #fantasybooks #fantasyseries #lovetriangle #bookreview #bookrecommendations #netgalleyreads #netgalleyreview #arcreview #bookdragon #readersofinstagram #bookstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/CpfDmc5hqDS/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
