🐓BOOK REVIEW : Well Behaved Wives -Amy Sue Nathan @amysuenathan (Lake Union Publishing)

Well Behaved Wives is very hard to put down. This historical novel is full of family drama and generational clashes as young Ruth is doing her best to adapt to her newly married life and achieve her dream of becoming a lawyer.

As she is doing her best to satisfy her new in-law mother, Ruth has also to learn etiquette and lifestyle of her new posh Philadelphia neighborhood. We are in the 1960s and women are expected to stay at home, being perfect while waiting for their husband to come home. It is not what Ruth wishes for in her life and the heroine is determined to do everything she can to achieve her independence dream, while pleasing her new family.

Amy Sue Nathan‘s writing is delicious. I find myself totally immersed in the story, wanting to know more about Ruth’s life, as well as what happens to the other women of the neighborhood. Definitively a nice discovery and a very interesting historical novel.

This was an interesting story. Amie is a photographic interpreter. She would take pictures behind enemy lines and would then analyze each photo to see where weapons could be hidden or where soldiers could be hidden.i never knew they did this so it was really interesting to read about. The story flows really well, the characters are wonderful and I liked the touch of romance added to the mystery! It's an engaging historical fiction story that captures you till the very end! Books and yet more to read

A novel written by my soul sister – a bibliophile and eclectic reader. So many new authors and books for me to check out – and for my husband too. From classics to books with recipes in – and I love the idea of a reading group with recipes to try out from the book.

My fantasy bookshop would be run alongside a café and deli. Every week we would choose a recipe from a book – cookery or not just as her reading group did – and showcase it in the café, then sell the ingredients and book in the deli, ready packaged in the correct amounts. The recipes might be exotic or just simple like an apple pie with interesting spicing, it doesn’t matter – everything would support the other elements of the store.

A book group would sample the recipe and discuss the book – and the knitting group would attempt to knit a representation perhaps? But that needs really experienced knitters. There is an artist who does make amazing  knitted foods items.

And there are lots of knitting patterns to make food too.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book – it followed the romance trope but it was the library and descriptions of books and the book-marks that sold it for me. By the way, what did happen to her library when the real one opened?

There’s Something About Mira: A Novel by Sonali Dev Pub date - 2/1/25

I am a long time Sonali Dev fan, and this book was beyond beautiful. 

I loved this, absolutely loved it. The story flows, it’s emotional, I found Mira relatable due to parental manipulation and guilting (certain types of parents transcend nationality), and I loved her journey to her true self. 

Writing anything else feels too spoil-ery, so I will simply implore you to read this - it’s a gorgeous story of finding (and claiming) yourself, finding love, and finding home - and so much more ❤️❤️

Stunning and absolutely recommended.
