Lula Dean’s Little Library of Banned Books: A Novel by Kirsten Miller
US pub date - 6/18/24
.
.
As a human, a reader, and a mother banned books infuriate me immensely (however, since this is a book review and not an opinion piece on small frightened people who try to ban sources of knowledge so they can remain comfortable in their narrow and seemingly impenetrable mindsets; I’ll simply leave it at that). The title of this one immediately caught my interest. The synopsis caught it even more. And the stories themselves pulled me in immediately.
.
One small Georgia town that has banned many books, and one little lending library whose pages contain much more than the cover might have advertised (and far more than the owner of the little library ever intended). Ms Miller has woven together timely and engaging stories, believable characters, and how small adjustments can change an entire community.
.
I loved Lula Dean’s Little Library of Banned Books ❤️ this one is an absolute recommendation.

I am finally back on track after a very long reading slump. When I started this book I knew it would not be the best choice to get rid of my slump but at the same time, I really wanted to read it. This would be my first self-growth book review and I am very excited to share it. Dale is truly an amazing writer and lecturer. His lessons are the type of lessons that will never get too old and that is why the book keeps selling and leaders continue to learn from it. ✨ I annotated a lot in this book as you can see in the photos as well. Some of his best quotes and references are: 🔴 ‘A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still.’ 🔴 ’When two partners always agree, one of them is not necessarily.’ 🔴 ‘You can measure the size of a person by what makes him or her angry.’ Have you read this book? What are your thoughts about it? I’d love to hear more opinions. 😌 Link for my full review in bio ❤️ #cloudwrites . . . . . . . . #bookreview #bookreviews #bookreviewer #igbookreview #bookreviewers #bookreviewblog #bookreviewersofinstagram #minibookreview #picturebookreview #bookreviewblogger #audiobookreview #instabookreview #bookreviewing #bookreviewerswanted #yabookreview #newyorktimesbookreview #bookreviewsofinstagram #ebookreview #nytimesbookreview #30secondbookreview #bookreviewswanted #newbookreview #coffeeandbooks #bookstagrammer #books #bookstagram #booklover #bookloversalways #bookcommunity (at Bookstagram) https://www.instagram.com/p/CoP2Jvmrhcp/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Motivations.
I wrote my memoirs partly because I saw it as a way to show women like myself as being human, with all this entails. My story is imbued with tragedy and humour, with self-loathing and acceptance, I wanted to share how my mind was able to survive thanks to what I would describe as my creativity which allowed me to often transport myself elsewhere when things got too difficult.I wanted to tell a…

The Synarchy The Duology Saving The World Isn't As Important As Beating Them By Crystal Storm One of the Book Review coming in 2022. This is book one and book two in one. I was told this is different from other type of sci-fi type of books which I'm really up for can't wait to get into this book.I will post other books I got for review also coming in 2022 . No set date yet. Will post update closer to review date. About book: When the head of the Terenzio mafia family summons Vasco, Simone, and Lucien to his deathbed, the triplets get a shock they never saw coming. Their grandfather shares the family secret: that the alien Anunnaki are behind a secret cabal running Earth. To break free and bring the cabal down, they'll have to confront and destroy both Earth's secret societies and the Anunnaki they serve. Worse, time is running out to save humanity as the winter solstice draws near. The Anunnaki are coming, but the Terenzios know nothing about the metaphysical wonders underpinning reality—wonders they must harness to win. Arrogance and money aren't enough to succeed, time isn't on their side, and the siblings have never faced anything like this. If they don't find the strength and information to finish what their family started, humanity will remain enslaved to the Anunnaki. And the Terenzio triplets will face even worse consequences. This duology contains books one and two of the Synarchy Series: The Awakening and The Ascension. Fans of the Godfather and Stargate will enjoy this mobsters vs aliens scifi conspiracy thriller. Summary:
Spoiled. Selfish. Rich girl. Villain. Slut. As the Prada-clad bad girl of Rosemary Beach, Nan Dillon has been called every vile name under the hot summer sun. Some of her reputation is deserved—she’s never had to worry about anything but maintaining her perfect figure and splitting Daddy’s private jet with her brother, Rush. But Nan is far from happy. Rush has another kid on the way and doesn’t have time to catch up with his sister. Grant, the last guy she truly cared about, chose to be with her half-sister, Harlow, instead of her. And Harlow, who has never gotten over the way Nan treated her when she first moved to town, remains distant. So when Major asks her out, she jumps at the chance to date the gorgeous charmer. Though she doesn’t know much about the sweet-talking Texan, and though it’s clear he doesn’t want to be exclusive, dating him beats hanging out with vapid socialites or watching Netflix alone at home. For a while, Nan deals with Major’s playboy ways, but after he burns her one too many times, she takes off for an impromptu wild weekend in Vegas. There, she meets Gannon, a darkly seductive and oh-so-dangerous businessman who knows exactly how to handle her. With Major asking for a second chance and Gannon haunting her dreams, Nan has to decide who to give her heart to. But what she doesn’t realize is that these players are involved in a much bigger game—and they’re already two moves ahead of her.
Review: 3/5
Oh my god, I finished this book like ten minutes ago and I'm still crying my eyes out. I'll be honest, I wasn't a fan of it for the first 150 pages for several reasons. Most importantly, I didn't like the way Major or Cope treated Nan. It appeared as if she was just a piece of meat they wanted to win over. I don't care if the woman plays the submissive part in a relationship, but the way Nan behaved when around Cope was just.... too much for me. On the other side, I love how she gave Major a hard time. There were so many twisted things in this, and to be honest I don't think I would've fallen for either of the three characters, but Cope and Nan work really well together, even if I really dislike the way she thinks. It's all about money and looking good and making as much sport as possible, and I know this is her character and she is supposed to be like that, but she just wasn't one of those characters I felt all that connected with. The end of the story, as in like the last 70 pages... Dude, that made up for all the twisted and bad things from before. Really, that was just awesome and like I said, I really bawled my eyes out. All in one I think this is a good book, but you need to know that the characters are very different to the ones in other romance books. But maybe they were just a bit more realistic like that.... Do with that what you want.

Halo-Halo Book Review Praises Song of the Yukon
#NewBookReview #MondayBlogs #NewFiction
A REVIEW
‘I read Trisha Sugarek’s novel Song of the Yukon, as I’m generally interested in homesteading and off-grid stories. Trisha’s novel, set in Alaska, more than satisfied my curiosity. It’s about LaVerne, a teen and budding song writer who followed the poet Robert Service’s trip into the wilds of Alaska. The inclusion of Service’s life offers a welcome layer to the story, and the references…

Under a Rock: A Memoir by Chris Stein
US pub date - 6/11/24
.
.
I loved Blondie as a kid in the 80's and still do all these years later and was very excited to be able to read an advance copy of Chris Stein's memoir.
.
A life well lived is always fascinating to me, and Stein’s memory for small details is incredibly impressive. The writing is fantastic and lends itself to allowing the reader to really visualize the experiences. Not all parts are easy to read, but I appreciated his forthcomingness.
.
A veritable who’s who from music and art in New York, Under a Rock is wildly engaging. This is a  must read memoir that will keep readers turning the pages (I’m also confident that it will be excellent in audiobook form).
.
.
*Some of my own favorite Blondie songs include ‘Dreaming’, ‘Out in the Streets’, ‘Will Anything Happen’, ‘Atomic’, ‘Union CIty Blue’, and ‘Hanging on the Telephone’ (also, the very first 45 my husband picked out and got as a kid was ‘Heart of Glass’).

If I Stopped Haunting You by Colby Wilkens
US pub date - 10/15/24
This sounded really cute and I was looking forward to it, but found that I wasn’t able to get into it at all once I started reading - not all characters need to be likeable but I cannot when main characters are emotionally manipulative and abusive, verging into physical.
Penelope is toxic with a capital t - her gaslighting, physical assaults, and emotional abuse were a major turn off for me.
Added bonus /s - there’s zero character development - Penelope remains the same, showing zero remorse or personal growth. So yeah, this one really didn’t work for me and I’m sorry I gave it as much reading time as I did.

Generation M: Living Well in Perimenopause and Menopause by Jessica Shepherd
US pub date - 10/1/24
Growing up, menopause was a word I rarely heard. Maybe  once or twice until I started my own perimenopausal journey, during which I thought I was going crazy, until I pieced together symptoms with the aid of Cleveland clinic and healthline. When I brought it up to my doctor, she said “HRT” and nothing else. After reading more about it I decided that it’s not something I’m personally interested in, at this time. Her lack of further response on alternate treatments irked and I took to google and reading books.
Nearing the end (hopefully) of my not-always-easy perimenopausal journey (perimenopause during a global pandemic in the midst of an utter shitshow presidency (old orange) has been decidedly very un-fun) - I was grateful to receive an early copy and I found Generation M to be a realistic and extremely helpful resource; I personally really and truly appreciated the time spent discussing non-HRT methods of dealing with symptoms (I will attest to the meditation and mindfulness) - I found a few I currently do and learned about a few new techniques that I’m interested in learning more about.
An excellent choice for the perimenopausal, or encroaching on it, who would prefer a more holistic approach.
I felt seen and grateful while I read Generation M - this is a title I’d gift to another person facing perimenopause.

Never Ever You: A Novel by Sarah Echavarre
US pub date - 9/17/24
I was 12 chapters in before I knew it. Off to read more now.
I was so excited when I started this; it was so promising.
I had my issues with this early on -
*you never really get to know Riley as a main character, to say nothing of her romantic partners and friends - this doesn’t delve deep into character and what character evolution there is, is lacking, imo - I found this too superficial to be a satisfying read
*jumping into a new relationship directly after the breakup of a marriage seems unhealthy and problematic to me and the storyline often reminded me of this thought
Unfortunately, the early excitement grew to discomfort the more I read this one. I wasn’t the right reader for this.
I’m rating this at 2 because it really caught my interest early on.

The Trouble with Inventing a Viscount (The Liar’s Club, #2) by Vivienne Lorret
US pub date - 9/24/24
After reading (and loving ❤️) the first book in this series, It Had to Be a Duke, I knew the second I saw this title and cover that I wanted to read it. After reading the synopsis, I was sold. After being fortunate enough to read an early copy of this, I started it immediately and was pulled right in.
Reading thoughts -
*This second book in the series is making me wish for a book about Roxana and Con’s story 😍
*The slow burn is manageable but nice
*I was enjoying my reading time with this - the longing that peeked through during the falling (on chap 22 (62%) currently and there’ve been some kisses and innuendo laden remarks - feelings are really simmering
*the Hartley family ❤️
I officially enjoyed this - The Trouble with Inventing a Viscount was a very fun read of a series I recommend - great escapist romance.
Thank you to Avon and NetGalley for the DRC
