Our MC and her 4 men is badass, sexy and completely insane. They are annoying as fuck don't get me wrong. And our MC has this habit of just being so frustrating that you want to bitch slap her. However, it works for the story. Speaking of the story The Dark Side is definitely plot driven and focus mainly on character development I went into this thinking I was getting more spice than story but I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't chapter after chapter of smut. Don't get me wrong there are alot of 🌶️🌶️. And it's written so well that it makes up for it not being on every page lol. . . I was torn on how to rate The Dark Side as I actually really enjoyed the series. However, the ending let it down for me. I felt really underwhelmed by how the author took our MC from being badass to just kinda Meh. That book destroyed in the best possible way so I was worried about starting another book by the same author. My expectations were extremely high. And while Birthday Girl is a fantastic story it just didn't quite grab me like Credence. . Birthday Girl is a slow burn contemporary romance. And I mean it's a sloooooooow burner. It took me a few days to get into the story and get a feel for characters and their lives. After the first half of the book I flew through it though. It's not an overly spicy read which can be good for those who are just looking for something a little lighter and more plot focus. To me it's not a "Spicy Book" but a "Book with Spice". And while there isn't alot of spice what we do get is sizzling. . The chemistry between our two main characters is undeniable and seeing them gradually grow closer and closer makes the tension building even more enticing. There are a few scene that are just 🤤🥵🤤🥵🤤🥵🤤🥵. If you've read the book you'll know. Pike is simply yum. Yeah he's older enough to be Jordan's dad. Literally! He is her boyfriend dad afterall 🤦🏻‍♀️ But damn!! He is my type looks wise. Tall. Tattooed. Sex on legs. Think Tyler Kinney covered in tattoos. . As I've mentioned Pike is older than Jordan. So if age gap forbidden romance isn't your thing you probably won't like this. HOWEVER, if that is your thing then yeah. Read this! Honestly! It's a perfect starting point it get into more "smutty" books without it being pure spice on every page. . But there was also an actual plot. Character development and so much emotion within these pages that broke my heart. Why? Kaleb! Just Kaleb. I've read reviews that don't favour him nicely. However, me personally? I feel in love with him. His backstory was awful and when you learn what happened you can understand him a little more. Every scene I cried at was mainly because of him. . I didn't sleep at all reading this. I stayed up all night and within 24 hours I had finished. I didn't want it to be over I was consumed by it. Rarely that happens. I was so enthralled that I bypassed sleeping. You know that last book that made me to do that?? NONE!!!! I have never done that! Yes I can stay up all night reading. But I would still sleep for a few hours. This I didn't. I couldn't stop until I had finished. . Credence will NOT be for everyone. Even if you like smut this is still not going to be a easy read. First I want to say that this just wasn't for me. That's not to say it was a "bad book" as such. It just wasn't my cup of tea. . I grabbed this on Netgalley purely based on the cover. I know I know. "Don't Judge a Book by the Cover" But it's soooooooo pretty 💖💖💖. And that bit me in the arse because unfortunately for me the stunning book cover was the best part of the book 🤦🏻‍♀️ . Awakened had the potential to be amazing. The premise of the story really intrigued me. However, it just wasn't executated very well. I couldn't connected to any of the characters at all which I think is because we don't get to know them. Everything happens in the space of a 2/3 days. There isn't any world building. And the characters just sort of accept everything that's happening. Especially Hannah. It was so unrealistic. . This is the authors debut novel and I'm sure with time she will perfect her craft. And while this book just was not for me. I know there will be people who absolutely love it.
