Olympic Chocolate Muffins! (since the recipe is paywalled on WaPo)
Cool the muffins and ganache completely before assembly, about 30-40 minutes
Makes 12 muffins
Muffin Ingredients:
¾ cup (180 ml) whole or reduced fat milk
¼ cup (60 ml) water
2 teaspoons instant coffee powder
½ cup (50 grams) unsweetened cocoa powder
4 tablespoons (56 grams) unsalted butter, cut into pieces
½ cup + 1/3 cup (145 total grams) bittersweet or semisweet chocolate chunks
2 cups (250 grams) AP flour
1 tablespoon baking powser
¼ teaspoon fine salt
½ cup (110 grams) packed dark brown sugar
½ cup (100 grams) granulated sugar
¼ cup (60 ml) neutral oil
2 large eggs, room temp
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup (60 grams) chopped milk chocolate, plus more for topping
Ganache Ingredients:
2/3 cup (115 grams) bittersweet or semisweet chocolate chunks
½ cup (120 ml) heavy cream
1/8 teaspoon fine salt
Directions
Position rack in the middle of the oven, preheat 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a regular sized muffin pan with liners.
In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine milk, water, and instant coffee. Bring to a simmer, whisking occasionally.
Add cocoa powder and whisk.
Decrease heat to low, add ½ cup (85 grams) of the chocolate chunks and butter, whisk until melted and smooth.
Transfer to a large bowl and cool slightly
In a medium bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.
To chocolate mixture, whisk in brown sugar, granulated sugar, oil, eggs, and vanilla.
Add about 1/3 of the flour mixture, whisk until incorporated
Add remaining flour, folding with a spatula until no streaks remain.
Fold in remaining 1/3 cup (60 grams) chocolate chunks and chopped milk chocolate, until just combined. Do not overmix.
Using a ¼ cup scoop or measuring cup, divide batter among 12 muffin cups, filling to the top of the pan.
Sprinkle additional chocolate chunks on top.
Transfer pan to oven, and immediately reduce oven temperature to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
Bake for 22-24 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Start on ganache now
Let muffins cool in pan for 10 minutes, then use a knife or piping tip to cut an approximately ¾ inch wide hole in the center of each muffin. (use the centers as ice cream topping or eat now!)
Let muffins cool completely.
GANACHE: in a small saucepan over medium-low heat, combine chocolate chunks, heavy cream, and salt. Cook, stirring frequently, until melted and smooth. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
Once muffins and ganache are completely cool, spoon or pipe ganache into the center of the muffin, until slightly overflowed. Serve immediately.

Maxi Muffin Chocolat Intense Dupe
(2024 Olympic Village Chocolate Muffin Recipe)
Tumblr media
Original dupe recipe by Becky Krystal of the Washington Post
Instructions based off of a video by @jordan_the_stallion8
Typed up by: @LegendsCookbook
EDITED 8/12/24 to correct misinformation! The recipe was a dupe but passed off as the OG!!
The rest of the image text is under the cut! Also a little rabbit hole on the whole correction at the very end.
Prep Time: 30 Minutes
Bake Time: 20 to 24 Minutes
Yield: 12 Muffins
Muffin Ingredients:
¾ cup milk
¼ cup water
2 tsp instant coffee
½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
½ cup chocolate chunks
¼ cup butter
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tbsp baking powder
¼ tsp salt
½ cup dark brown sugar
½ cup granulated sugar
¼ cup vegetable or canola oil
2 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
⅓ cup chocolate chunks + more for garnish
Chocolate Ganache Filling Ingredients:
½ cup heavy cream
¼ cup chocolate chunks
pinch of salt
Instructions:
1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
2.  In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add in the milk, water, and instant coffee. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
3. Once simmering, add in the cocoa powder and stir until smooth. Then add in the ½ cup of chocolate chunks and the butter and stir until both are completely melted. Remove the chocolate mixture from the heat and transfer to a large mixing bowl. Set aside to cool slightly.
4. In a separate mixing bowl, add in the flour, baking powder, and salt and stir to combine. Set aside.
5. Once the chocolate mixture is slightly cooler, stir in the brown sugar, granulated sugar, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
6. Add in about ⅓ of the flour mixture into the chocolate mixture and stir until smooth. Add the rest of the flour and fold until just combined. Do not overmix! Lastly, fold in the ⅓ cup of chocolate chunks.
7. Grease a muffin pan or line it with muffin cups. Add the batter to the muffin pan, filling each cup about ⅔ full. Add a few chocolate chunks to the tops as garnish.
8. Bake the muffins for 20 to 24 minutes. The muffins will be done when a toothpick inserted into the muffin comes out mostly clean. Set aside the muffins to cool slightly.
9. For the filling, in a small saucepan over medium heat, add the heavy cream. Heat until just simmering before removing from the heat. Add in the chocolate chunks and salt and gently stir until the chunks are melted.
10. To fill a muffin, add the ganache to a piping bag. Pierce the muffin with the tip of the piping bag and fill with as much chocolate as desired. If you don’t have a piping bag, you can fill the muffin by carefully carving out a small chunk of the muffin from the top and spooning in the filling.
11. We may not be Olympians, but we can try to eat like them!
Additional notes:
Bake time will depend on how big the muffins are. Are they jumbo muffins? Cupcake sized? Mini muffins?
For richer muffins, use whole milk but 1%, 2%, and skim milk will work as well.
---
After doing some research, it looks like this recipe is actually a dupe! While the original video by Jordan the Stallion was vague enough to have you think it was from the original bakery, Coup de Pates, it is actually taken from Becky Krystal of the Washington Post. That recipe can be found here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/recipes/olympic-chocolate-muffins/
The Maxi Muffin Chocolat Intense at Coup de Pates are mass produced, frozen, and sold to bakeries all over. As of 8/12/24, they have not officially released their recipe but that hasn’t stopped chefs from trying to recreate the chocolate goodness! https://www.coupdepates.fr/produit/maxi-muffin-chocolat-intense-831295
The blogger Kassie Mendieta was able to get locate an ingredient list and has based their dupe recipe around that. Give that recipe a peek too: https://ibakemistakes.substack.com/p/the-highly-sought-after-olympic-chocolate
Currently, we’ve reached out to the bakery to ask if they are willing to share their recipe, though we’re sure that we are one of many who want to know. We’ll keep everyone updated if they respond!
We decided to do this update to correct misinformation and to give credit where credit is due. If you make any of these recipes, please share photos and your experience making them! We love food and sharing meals with others 😊

Olympic Chocolate Muffin Recipe by Thessa 🏅🍫🧁
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Recipe:
Ingredients
• 150g all-purpose flour
• 50g unsweetened cocoa powder
• 1 tsp baking powder
• 1/2 tsp baking soda
• 1/2 tsp salt
• 200g brown sugar
• 2 large eggs, room temperature
• 120ml vegetable oil
• 240ml buttermilk or 1 cup milk + 1 tbsp vinegar
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
• dark chocolate chunks for the topping 100g melted dark chocolate
For the chocolate ganache:
• 1/2 cup heavy cream
• 1 cup dark chocolate chips or chunks
Instructions:
In a large bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
Whisk together the buttermilk, eggs oil and vanilla until smooth.
Gently fold the melted dark chocolate until fully combined.
Chill the batter for at least 20 minutes.
Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to
200°C (400°F) and line a muffin tin with paper liners.
Scoop the batter evenly among the muffin liners, filling each about 3/4 full.
Drop some chocolate chunks on tip of the batter.
Bake for 8 minutes on high and lower the heat to 150C and bake for 10 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a muffin comes out with a few moist crumbs. (I just baked for a total of 30 mins and decreased to 300 F instead)
Allow the muffins to cool in the tin for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
For Chocolate Ganache Filling
In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer.
Do not let it boil.
Place the finely chopped dark chocolate in a heatproof bowl.
Pour the hot cream over the chocolate and let it sit for 2-3 minutes to melt the chocolate.
Gently stir the mixture until the chocolate is fully melted and the ganache is smooth.
Let the ganache cool at room temperature until it thickens slightly, but is still pourable.
Once the muffins are cooled, use a small paring knife or a chopstick and poke the center of each muffin.
Pipe the ganache into the center of the muffins.
Let the ganache set before serving.

the olympic muffins w/ atsumu | wc: 260 m.list
“you need to eat something other than muff-”
“no, no, y/n, you don’t understand how amazing these chocolate muffins are,” atsumu sits across from you, chocolate already on his fingers, some smudged on the tip of his nose.
you roll your eyes, hands holding a sandwich. everything there is amazing, the different cultures and flavors represented in an array of recipes. and yet all that atsumu seems to be grabbing are the chocolate muffins. he raises his eyebrows at you, waiting for a retort that he would only scoff at. “right, right.. because that is totally healthy for game day,” you take another bite, watching as he does as well.
“but when else will i get to eat these? besides the swimmer dude keeps taking them all anyway,” atsumu shrugs, not having fully swallowed the large bite of chocolate.
it’s beginning to cover his teeth in an odd display, your hand reaching for a napkin to help clean him up. “when you’re done with finishing your event in the olympics.. but also you do have something on your face,” taking the condensation on your water, you wet the napkin and bring it up to his face.
wiping his nose and sides of his mouth, he gives you a warm smile, “what would i do without you, my sweet, sweet girlfriend here?”
“well you’d be a mess, that’s for sure,” you laugh, ignoring the odd looks from fellow competitors that sit nearby, setting the napkin back down. because all you can do is keep looking at him, breathing it all in.

Chocolate Muffin Drama
A/N: So i'm on the olympic chocolate muffin tiktok and then this appeared lol. Everyone is aged up, sports/countries are not specified (except for Vil, Rook, and Rollo), and Yuu/Reader is a female
Everything starts when Ace wants to get breakfast at the Olympic dining hall and his eyes land on Yuu eating about 10 chocolate muffins
Yuu literally has crumbs on her face and the chocolate filling (or sauce? Idk) on her fingers. She looked like a hot mess that someone from the German team showed up to "clean the potato"
Ace is both surprised and confused
Later on, while sitting in the audience for a sport, he watches Yuu destroying the opposing team. Gold medal worthy, in his eyes
Ace rn: "is that the same girl who devoured those muffins in one sitting?"
Yes, yes, it is
Anyways, Ace is SMITTEN by Yuu and is determined to win her heart
How does he do it? He grabs a muffin at the dining hall and tries to give it to Yuu, but she is not there.
He comes back the next day to find out there are no more muffins! (gee I wonder why???)
Plan B: give it to Trey
Ace: I need you to tell me what ingredients are used to make this muffin
Trey: okay....
Eventually, Trey cracks the code to the muffins and even writes down the recipe for Ace
If only all's well, ends well
Meanwhile, a muffin thief was currently bringing the muffins back to the Village
Ruggie drops off his stash to Leona (while also taking one or two for himself. Leona pretends to not see it) so he can give it to Yuu later that day
See, Leona has been doing this for a few days now, but he waits until Yuu gets her servings before taking the rest to avoid suspicion
Yuu caught Leona's eyes at the same event Ace went to
He would have gone for more had a certain Frenchman not sat by him
Leona: there are other seats, ya know?
Rook: au contraire! These are the best seats to watch Madame Trickster perform!
So Leona repeats the process and basically plays hide and seek with Rook while Ruggie works.
He ends the day by being Yuu's prince charming (literally) and gifts her the muffins
He knows about the redhead who is trying to recreate the muffins.
It would be bad if the recipe got stolen...
Except, it wasn't Ruggie who took it. It was a bat
Lilia is grinning like he won the lottery. He saw how the muffins became viral on MagicTok and he just had to make some to share to all of his fellow athletes
(Little did anyone know that Lilia would accidentally end the Games if he succeeded)
Luckily, Silver is there to save everyone
He recognized the muffins from the dining hall and Malleus mentioned his new friend loved them
So he goes out to the nearby shops/places in Paris to buy the ingredients, unaware of a group of six guys currently on a goose chase to find a recipe
(tbh idk if the athletes can explore the city but let's pretend they can)
Silver has never met Yuu, but according to Malleus, she was a nice person.
Malleus suggests that Silver makes Yuu some muffins (it's a miracle he was able to at the Village). Silver gives some to her as a thank you for befriending his brother
What he doesn't know is that Malleus is trying to set the two up, so he talks about Silver when he's around Yuu and recruits Sebek to stop Lilia from adding his "secret ingredient" to the muffins
Bonus:
Malleus also drags Silver to Yuu's sporting events, sitting away from Ace and Leona
Except he has his own problem with someone from the French team
Rollo: why must you sit next to me? go somewhere else
Malleus: hush, Flamme, I am trying to get a sister-in-law here
Silver: trying to fight sleep
