Ming and Qing Taoist tokens (Ling Pai 令牌 aka Lei Ling 雷令or Wu Lei Hao Ling 五雷號令) used in the Thunder Rites (Lei Fa 雷法). Mostly from Lushan Taoist school (閭山派), Fujian.
The tokens are made of wood, often peach wood or jujube, however, jade, ivory, bamboo root, etc. are allowed. The rounded top represents Heavens and the rectangular base – Earth.
The Ling Pai are engraved with signs corresponding to those divinities or forces with which the practitioner interacts during the Rites. The patterns and shapes may vary depending on the Taoist school and lineage, but the overall structure remains recognizable.

Instead of gold, would it be more accurate for the monkey king’s cloud to be purple? 13th century and zaju play as examples before the final version. Unless the cloud is described specifically as gold in the final I don’t remember
I don't believe the 13th-century JTTW mentions the color. I'm not sure about zaju.
The standard 1592 edition sometimes describes Monkey's cloud as “auspicious" (xiangyun, 祥雲) or having a "luminosity" (xiangguang, 祥光). Such clouds/lights are commonly associated with the five colors (wuse, 五色). Chapter 88 makes this explicit:
Marvelous Great Sage! With a loud whistle he somersaulted right up into midair, his two feet treading the auspicious cloud of five colors. At about three hundred paces above ground, he let loose his rod to make [the martial arts moves] Sprinkling Flowers over the Top and the Yellow Dragon Entwining the Body. Up and down he moved, circling left and right. In the beginning his person and the rod so complemented each other that they seemed, as the adage had it, like flowers added to brocade. By and by even the person disappeared, and all one could see was a sky full of twirling rods! (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol.

Meng Po
In Chinese mythology and religious beliefs, Meng Po emerges as a significant figure associated with the realm of the afterlife. Known as Meng Po Niang, she assumes the role of a soul-retrieving deity within the Chinese underworld. Mythology narrates her pivotal task of concocting a potion known as the "soup of oblivion", "forgetfulness soup" or simply "Meng Po's soup." Upon reaching the underworld, it is believed that departing souls must partake in Meng Po's soup before embarking on their journey of reincarnation. This mystical elixir possesses the power to erase memories of past lives, ensuring a clean slate for subsequent rebirths. Depicted as an elderly woman, Meng Po administers her soup near the Bridge of Forgetfulness—a crucial point where souls traverse into their new existence. Her presence and the consumption of the soup serve as a spiritual purgation, enabling souls to relinquish their previous experiences and venture forward into the cycle of life and death. Consequently, Meng Po occupies a prominent position in Chinese literary, artistic, and religious expressions related to death and the afterlife, embodying the concept of renewal and the transformative nature of reincarnation within Chinese mythology and religious practices.

So I accidently deleted this when I was cleaning bots out of my inbox, so I'm really sorry about that, but this is really cool! Thanks for letting me know! 'Investiture of the Gods' is actually the next one on my reading list of the classics (I'm almost done with the Water Margin right now) so I haven't actually read it in full yet, just know the basic plot and implications of it. It will be really fun to get to see how the stories depicted there differ from the older myths. (Personally, the idea of needing to 'keep in line' a guardian of children doesn't sit terribly well with me, and doesn't exactly help my perception of Li Jing, but that's neither here nor there) Thanks for being wiling to share this with me! I love being able to learn more, and you're never bothering me with asks, so no worries!

i’ve jumped feet first into the hole of black myth wukong!!!
and also caved and drew an oc
this is Lǐyú (鲤鱼) meaning carp (uh but i found this through google translate so take that w/ a grain of salt)
carp are considered lucky in chinese culture - its what im basing their ‘powers’ on, they have good and bad luck
and guess who’s lucky enough to be pulled into bmw :)
also gave a name to the destined one since ‘destined one’ is a mouth full
name i picked for him is yēzi (椰子) which means coconut!! was looking up stone fruit and cocnuts re one of them, plus he was (presumably) born on flower fruit mountain, he might have been given a fruit name before being whisked away to train for his destiny
uh anyway not canon but i thought it was cute
massive shoutout to everyone in the black myth wukong/wukong x reader tag bcs y’all inspired me to draw my oc! wanted to join the fun so here i am
