Today I chaperoned a field trip for my son's second grade class. In the morning before departing, I watched as a free breakfast was passed out to all the kids. It consisted of sweetened yogurt, chocolate graham crackers and #fatfree #chocolatemilk. Of course it bothered me to see all that sugar (which no kid said no to). While I wanted to speak up, I also bit my tongue, realizing that any meal is better than no meal. It is from a very stable, privileged place that I've become the food snob that I am. I'm lucky to get to make and gather the freshest, least processed, most #nutrientdense foods possible. My question is where's the middle ground between the crap being given to these sweet children and the completely stuck-up cheese wheels soon to be ripening in my basement cave?
