autism spectrum disorder is NOT a childhood developmental disorder. autistic folks' bodies don't just stop aging.
we we're born autistic and we will die autistic.
all autistics age our symptoms don't disappear when we turn 18.
our needs for support do not disappear when we turn 18.
lot of autistics get a lot of support decreased, sometimes completely.
luckily, we are in a disability program that supports youths and teens and adults. we are about to phase out of the youth program, and we will get similar in the adult support program. we we're supported in a mostly mental health way, but it was alters when we got diagnosed with ASD. now we have child, teen, and adults alters, but our body is an adult. we are a dependent adult. needing support in a lot of areas
autsitic children become autistic adults
disbaled children become disbaled adults

My friend has a 2yo little boy. My daughter is 4 with autism.
Her kid is already bypassing my kid in development. He's speaking more and understanding more. Today was the icing on top of the cake. We've been potty training, and she's finding it difficult to do more than pees on the toilet. My friend messaged me today, her little boy has randomly been taking himself to the toilet and has mastered it in one day, number 1s and 2s. We've been working on it for a year.
I know I shouldn't compare. Kids are so so different.
But I'm finding it very difficult to cheer on his success. I love this little boy and I want him to succeed and I'm so happy that he's doing so well. But I'm just finding it very difficult.
I think it's the realisation that she's behind, and because she's behind she's going to find primary school really difficult. And I don't want her to find life difficult.
It's just really hard.

What to Do When Your Child Is Diagnosed With Autism
Nothing can be more traumatic than when a healthcare professional tells you that your child has autism spectrum disorder, or ASD. While you might already have somehow sensed that your little one is a bit different compared to other children – which must be the reason you went to see a medical professional in the first place – the diagnosis can really shake you to your core. Although you may need…

When you're autistic, it's impossible to miss how much society normalizes child abuse.
I could dedicate my entire life to studying how to interact with people and I'd still never master the social skills that young children are expected to have on command.
Say the wrong thing? That's disrespectful and you're punished. And you don't even have to actually say anything wrong. Pretty much anything you say can be considered "giving lip" if your parent wants some excuse to punish you. But if you say nothing, then you get punished for ignoring. You also have to calculate your response to their mind game quickly because taking too long to respond is considered ignoring. Also, if you're being wrongly accused of something, saying nothing is considered a confession. And even if you somehow manage to say exactly what your parent wants in exactly the correct tone, they'll still punish you for "sarcasm" or "not really meaning it".

As a parent of a child with autism, you know it’s hard to predict the reason for their behavioral or emotional tantrums and meltdowns. However, it’s not impossible to figure them out. The first step begins with recognizing the differences in their behavior and learning to address them in the best possible way you can. Here are some tips to help you.

Friendly reminder that Nico Di Angelo as a child, loved pirates and Greek mythology.
Imagine a 10 year old Nico getting excited that the Greek gods exist, then finding out that he gets to learn how to sword fight just like pirates do. (He was so excited he ended up cutting his leg resulting in a scar)
And now imagine all that excitement disappear when he learns that he can never show his big sister what he learnt.

A child with autism tries to blow stranger’s birthday cake, the celebrant happily lets her do the honors
An adorable child with autism tried to blow out a stranger’s birthday cake. Instead of getting angry or disappointed, the man wholeheartedly let the child do it for him. This warm gesture was caught in a video, which quickly went viral online. On April 12, Twitter user Good News Correspondent posted a video of the incident with a caption that says, “young girl with autism blows out a stranger’s…

God I have so much to say about Melinoe's characterization, and the fasinating implications about her future arc/the overarching plot of hades 2. I want to make a larger think piece with pictures but for the moment I'm just going to focus on this one specific thread.
In the wake of the Prometheus reveal, she has a slew of convos about his motivations for siding with Chronos, and the gods basically all go: this is his vengeance for us punishing him a tad cruelly. And Nemesis is like, yeah the gods 100% deserve it. But Meli's responds that he must have more motivation than just vengeance, it can't just be that. But when Prometheus explicitly goes, 'I'm doing this because the gods are horrible to humanity and I love humans,' she basically goes, no he must be lying. That motivation is both too pure, but also humans kind of suck why would you care about them?
Mel's humanity hot takes deserve it's own essay (Ms I think Humans should have never gotten fire and are better when they are dead), and I just want to focus on the former for now. She can not comprehend that Prometheus is fighting the gods for noble reasons. It just does not make sense to her. Mel's world is so black and white. She doesn't understand the nuance of the situation, and the thought that the gods might be actually in the wrong doesn't even get close to crossing her mind.
It's a fascinating (and horrifying) result of her upbringing. Of the constant state of war and the very convenient big bad that is Chronos, the evil monster who stole her family. If she accepts that his side isn't completely evil, that they might even be right in some (even many) respects, she would have to grapple with her whole life. Everything she believes would be thrown into question, the literal thing she was training her whole life for.
She can't have Prometheus fighting for a noble cause, because he fights for Chronos whose the Bad Guy tm. But he also can't be fighting for something as simple as vengeance, because that would also mean she would need to really think about what he's angry about. If the punishment was truly so unnecessary cruel.
When talking to Odysseus about Prometheus, when Ody's saying how much he respected him for stealing the fire despite knowing the consequences, Mel says that it was the price to be paid for breaking Olympus's decree. To her, Olympus's rules are sacred and ultimately good. Unquestionably. Prometheus broke the rules with intent, so to her, why would he be so angry at the consequences? Especially if he knew because of his power they were going to happen.
So he must have another reason, some secret machiavellian plan that drives him. Except as I already said, it brings her right back to him doing it for humanity, which she also can't accept. Because that would be admiting that the gods did something wrong to humans. She twists herself into knots to justify her worldview, and it's fascinating! She's so messy I adore her.
Please Supergiant please the final surface boss has to be a human pleeeaaasse (preferably a living one). Or at least have one (or more) show up in some other capacity. Mel needs to come face to face with the other side and have it utterly destroy her worldview.
And/or have (Pan)Dora betray her for Prometheus, that would also be very fun haha.

Embracing the Journey: Our Life with Jane
When my daughter Jane was diagnosed with autism at the age of three, a myriad of emotions flooded through me. Confusion, fear, and concern for what the future might hold were among the strongest. Now, nearly five years later, these feelings have transformed into understanding, acceptance, and an appreciation for the unique person Jane is. We have gone through many struggles and I wanted to share…

"How am I supposed to tell the difference between a child challenging my authority and a child asking for clarification because they have a disability?"
You're not. If you expect anyone to submit to your authority, you're inherently ableist. The system was designed to exclude disabled people and you're upholding the system.
You're always justifying your authority by saying that it's your job to teach them right from wrong. If you actually believe that and it's not just a bullshit excuse to justify your abuse, then you should be encouraging them to ask for clarification and reasons.
