Recently discovered images by Ray K. Metzker capture the spirit of Election Day in Chicago, November 1956. On this historic day, Metzker, a first-year student at the Chicago Institute of Design, documented the scene at a polling precinct near campus. These photographs provide a direct look at the electoral process during a significant moment in American history. They also mark an early example of Metzker's work as a photographer.

With that in mind, we'd like to remind everyone that early voting is currently underway in New York, and Election Day is less than a week away on Tuesday, November 5th.
