It was kind of funny to you when you thought about it. Everyone from your graduating class was flooding back to the University of Virginia for your class reunion, but you'd been here pretty much every single day for the past six years.
You hadn't planned on ending up right back where you started after graduating from the University of Chicago with your PhD, but things never usually went as you planned.
"Big ten year reunion for you tomorrow night," said Veronica, your closest friend from work. "Are you excited?" You and she were sitting at a small table in a trendy bar near campus.
You just shrugged and swirled the last sip of your beer around in your pint glass. "Honestly? Not really. I haven't kept in contact with that many people I graduated with, and I probably wouldn't be going if I wasn't already living in town."
You pictured your cute rental house with the crooked fence and crumbling front step. It was only a few blocks from where you had lived your senior year.
"I'm sure you'll have fun!" Veronica said with a grin. "And if everyone sucks, you can rub it in that you have your PhD from one of the most prestigious programs in the country. And that you were published in Mathematics of Tomorrow when you were only twenty two."
You laughed. "I think you are overestimating how many people I plan on talking to. Maybe I'll see someone I know, but I'm just going for the free drinks and dinner, and then heading home."
"Yeah, you better head home early! Head home and make a decision for the fall! You are the only person I know who has ever been offered a tenure track at six colleges at once!"
You just waved your hand. "I have it narrowed down to Miami and San Diego. The other offers were kind of bogus, to be honest."
"Either way, you'll be somewhere warmer than Chicago," Veronica said with a shrug.
"I will cheers to that," you said, tipping your nearly empty pint of beer to her nearly empty glass of chardonnay. "Now, I need to run home before I meet this guy John for a second date."
Veronica made a face and shook her head. "That's the most generic name ever. And he sounded boring when you described him."
You just sighed. "Well, he was boring, but giving someone a second chance never hurt anyone."
You waved down your waiter for the check and handed him cash for the drinks.
"Want to walk out with me?" Veronica asked, checking the time.
"You go ahead, I'm going to use the ladies' room before I head out. See you on Monday?"
"I can't wait to hear all about your class reunion!"
You just shook your head and waved over your shoulder as you went to use the restroom. When you finished washing your hands, you glanced in the mirror. You were having such a good hair and makeup day, it was almost a given that you'd look like a clown or a wet dog for the reunion tomorrow night.
You straightened out your short, blue dress and headed for the bar exit. You ducked past a server who was carrying a tray of drinks, almost bumping some of the patrons seated at the bar in the process.
But as you walked past the guy sitting on the end, you slowed down a little bit. Even from behind, you knew he was going to be handsome. He had broad shoulders and thick, wavy brown hair. Just what you liked.
Just what you'd loved, actually. Since college.
You tucked your hair behind your ear and glanced at him as you turned toward the door, but you stopped dead in your tracks.
The scars. You knew those scars by heart. You'd touched his cheek and his neck so many times, you'd be able to describe them in your sleep. You'd thought about his face more than you should have. You'd thought about his body next to yours. You'd imagined what could have been.
But now Bradley Bradshaw was right in front of you, leaning his forearms against the bar and watching sports highlights while he played with the label on his beer bottle.
Only now he was all grown up.
"Beer Boy?" you asked softly, and he spun in his seat to face you so quickly it made you smile.
He just gaped at you, his eyes softly searching your face and dipping down as far as your neck before he licked his lips and grinned.
"Sugar."
Your belly swooped, and you were afraid you actually gasped out loud. His voice was even deeper than you remembered. You took a step closer to him, and his grin lit up his eyes. God, you could remember everything with him. Every bittersweet feeling came flooding back.
"I can't believe it's you." A giggle escaped your lips as you spoke, and his grin faltered a bit as his eyes landed on your lips.
He had a mustache now, and his hair was a little shorter than it was ten years ago. And he was so big and impossibly handsome.
"It's me," he said, his eyes flicking back up to yours. "And I guess you really are Doctor Sugar now?"
"Yes," you said before you bit your lip, remembering how many times he had called you that.
He shook his head, and that crooked grin was back. "Chicago was lucky to have you."
You felt your cheeks grow warm as his eyes roamed your face. He looked good. He looked so fucking good.
"You're still in the Navy?" you managed to ask as you inched ever closer to him. He turned his stool a little more to face you, his legs splayed apart with one hand resting on his thigh.
"Yeah," he confirmed. "I'm Lieutenant Bradshaw these days."
You looked him up and down in his fitted pants and black tee shirt that really hugged his chest and biceps. "I can just picture you in your uniform."
When your gaze settled on his face again, you saw hunger there that had you squeezing your thighs gently together.
"I wear a flight suit a lot of the time," he said in the raspiest tone you'd ever heard from him.
You pressed your lips together before you whispered, "You're just so much bigger now. You really filled out."
Part of you recognized that you should be embarrassed at saying that, but it felt like no time had passed at all. It felt like all those years ago you had turned back around, climbed back in bed with him and told him you never wanted to break up, ever.
"Yeah, I guess basic training will do that to a guy," he said casually, but his eyes were making you feel so warm. "Can I buy you a drink, Sugar?"
The fact that nobody had called you Sugar in the past ten years was not lost on you, but nothing had ever felt more right. You had missed him, thought about him frequently, too. Especially during those years you spent in Chicago.
"Yeah," you agreed with a slight nod, praying you weren't about to embarrass yourself. "As long as your girlfriend doesn't mind." He wasn't wearing a ring, but you needed to know for sure.
He just smirked. "Well, yeah, she would have absolutely minded if I was buying drinks for my beautiful ex-girlfriend. But we broke up two months ago, so I'm single."
"I see," you said, trying to bite back your smile, but you knew he was onto you.
"So what are you drinking?" he asked, already raising two fingers toward the bartender to get his attention.
"The good beer," you said softly.
And then Bradley turned toward you with a longing look that reminded you of ten years ago. "You still remember everything, Sugar?" he asked, his brows scrunching together as he took a deep breath and waited for you to answer.
"Everything," you confirmed with a nod.
"Another beer for you?" the bartender asked Bradley before he turned toward you as well.
"Make it two. Please," Bradley confirmed, and you shifted a little closer to him.
When the bartender returned with two bottles, Bradley shifted on his stool to stand.
"Have a seat," he told you, but you placed your hand on his very muscular chest and stopped him.
"No, stay where you are," you told him, pushing him gently back down. When he eased himself back against the stool, you tucked yourself closer so your hip was nudging the inside of his knee. "Is this okay?"
"Yep," he said, quickly grabbing both of the beers and handing you one. "It's okay," he added as his cheeks started to grow pink.
When he shifted around in his seat, his leg rubbed against you, and you needed to start a new conversation to keep from moaning.
"You're in town for the reunion?" you asked quickly.
"Yeah," he confirmed after taking a sip of beer. "I was in Virginia for work. It made sense to try to stop by. Where are you living these days?"
You laughed, and it seemed to make him more comfortable. "Like six streets over. I'm working at UVA."
"No way," he said with another grin. "You're teaching here?"
"Yeah, but only for another couple of weeks. I'm trying to decide between two tenure positions."
"Which schools?" he asked softly, and you couldn't help but think he kept intentionally bumping you with his knee.
"University of Miami and San Diego State."
His eyes went wide as he sucked in a short breath. "That's great," he told you, looking at you in awe now. "I still can't believe you teach math to a bunch twenty year old guys."
"Why not?" you asked with a laugh.
Bradley turned his head to face the bar and took a long drink of beer. He gave you side eye and said, "I would have died if you were my math teacher, Sugar. Trying to teach me calculus, looking like that? Please, I'd have failed the class."
"What? Why?"
"Come on," he said, turning fully back and giving you a playfully annoyed look. "You're just as gorgeous as you were ten years ago. Maybe moreso. I mean...you filled out, too."
Your mouth was hanging open and your heart was pounding erratically.
"But at least your students don't know about your math tattoo. So I guess they don't have it so bad. Me on the other hand? I wouldn't last a minute in your lecture."
"Bradley," you gasped, but he just kept his eyes on you while he finished his beer.
Your phone started vibrating in your clutch purse which you were gripping tightly in your sweaty hand. You set down your beer and pulled it out to see that John had been texting you.
"Shit," you muttered, and Bradley adjusted himself in his seat again, eyes still on you.
"You need to go?" he asked, and it sounded like he was dreading the answer.
"I...just need to send a quick text, actually," you replied, setting your purse down on the bartop and frantically typing back to John. "I'm just going to cancel my plans."
When you lowered your phone and set it down on your purse, he asked you, "Are you seeing someone then?"
"No," you replied quickly. "It was just a second date." You would have canceled plans with anyone to stay here longer.
Bradley's grin was slowly creeping back. "Did you just cancel a date for me?"
You scoffed playfully. "Yeah, but he was boring anyway."
"That'll never do. Not for you. You deserve the best."
You looked at him carefully, letting your palm rest on his knee. "Is that why I had you?"
"Hmm," he hummed teasingly. "I would assume so."
You just stood there for a minute, barely moving at all, except for your fingertips moving against his muscular thigh. "I missed you. When I was in Chicago," you whispered, and he was nodding right away.
"I missed you, too. Had a hard time at first. I thought about you a lot."
"I thought about you all the time," you replied, your heartbeat picking up in tempo again.
Bradley nudged you a little closer with his knee, and you willingly went. "I still think about you sometimes," he whispered.
You sighed softly, and he sat up a little straighter, his face closer to yours. You felt like you could melt against him, if you thought that was a good idea. Which it was not.
A loud group of college students entered the bar and made their way toward the crowded tables, jostling you and bumping your butt in the process. You stepped further into Bradley's personal space to make room, bumping both of his thighs with your hips.
His sharp intake of breath and slow exhale had you meeting his eyes and withdrawing your hand from the top of his thigh.
"No," he told you, grabbing your hand and then gently pressing it where it had been. You looked down and saw you were standing precariously close to him; if you moved your hand just a little bit, it would be on his zipper. "It's okay," he murmured, bringing his hand to your hip.
This felt very good.
"I like your mustache," you told him, blurting out the first idiotic thing that came to your mind. Of course you liked it. He looked great with it. You weren't even aware you actually liked facial hair before this moment.
"Thanks," he said softly, and his eyes grew wider as you brought your other hand up to run your fingers along his mustache. His lips parted, but he didn't move otherwise.
"You couldn't grow one of these in college," you told him with a laugh.
"No," he replied, his lips skimming along your fingertips. "Would have looked ridiculous."
Your soft laughter seemed to spur him on as his huge hand wrapped around your hip and settled on your lower back.
Oh god, you wanted him. So badly. You needed him. You had never stopped feeling this way about Bradley Bradshaw.
------------------------------
Bradley had often wondered what it would be like to see you again. At first the idea of it haunted him; it was the only thing he wanted, but he figured it was never going to happen.
Then as he got older, thoughts of you would jump into the forefront of his mind when he least expected it. He always figured you were doing everything you wanted to do. He thought you would be married by now. He was absolutely certain you would have found someone better than him.
But you made him better. He grew into a man because of you. Every girlfriend he had since you broke his heart should have honestly written you a thank you letter.
But the crazy thing was, Bradley wasn't surprised in the least that he still felt a connection to you right now. His heart was leaping in his chest, elation pouring through his body.
Your beautiful face was a few inches from his and you were touching his mustache. Your other hand was on his leg, and he couldn't seem to stop himself from guiding you closer with his palm on your lower back. Your gaze was still sharp, and you were just as witty as he remembered. And you were so perfect, he never wanted to stop looking at you.
"Maybe your mustache would have looked ridiculous ten years ago, but it looks good now," you told him. He wanted to kiss you. He thought he was going to, when you added, "You look so handsome."
"You're fucking gorgeous, Sugar," he told you, and he was treated to a radiant smile as your fingers rubbed the end of his mustache and trailed along to the faded scars on his cheek. "You always have been."
You were softly sighing as you examined him.
"You look like you want to ask me something," he told you, and you nodded the tiniest bit.
"Yeah," you confirmed with a soft laugh. "But I'm scared."
"Don't be scared. Just ask." He would be honest with you, no matter what you asked him.
"When you think about me... what do you think about?"
A montage of images rushed through his mind, and he swallowed hard. Your lips parted with a little gasp like you just knew some of his thoughts on the matter were completely filthy.
His cock was getting a little hard as he let his mind settle on the first time he got you off. "I think about that study room, Sugar. And how cute you looked in my bathrobe. And I think about how effortlessly you made me want to change my ways."
Bradley started to close the distance between you, and you cupped his cheek as your lips brushed his in the softest kiss.
"Beer Boy," you whispered, nudging his lips with yours again. But you were already pulling away as he was trying to get closer.
Then you asked, "Do you want to know what comes to my mind when I start thinking about you?"
"Tell me."
You licked your lips before you said, "I think about your Navy desk lamp. And I think about your bedroom door. Nobody else has ever done anything like that for me."
Bradley kissed your lips nudging your nose with his. "I'd do it again in a heartbeat, Sugar."
You threaded your fingers through his hair, and Bradley was absolutely aching for you now. He wanted to take you to his hotel room. He wanted to make you feel so good.
You had your hand incredibly close to his cock as you looked him in the eye and said, "And when I think about you, Bradley, I think about the fact that nobody else has made me cum as good in the last ten years."
"Shit," he groaned, growing harder by the second as you sighed and moved your hand higher.
Bradley had to take your hand in his to stop you. But it was your wide pupils that had him shifting his right knee so it rubbed against your core.
You sucked in a deep breath and gasped, gently grinding yourself against him as your eyes drifted closed.
"Sugar," he groaned. "Please tell me you're coming back to my hotel room."

Hi, we wanted to ask why you target anti endos so much (you know, traumatized people) instead of just existing in your own space and we exist in ours? We don’t mean any harm, just a genuine question we have. Like, what’s your thought process? Can that be explained please?
Because hate and ignorance are infections and if you allow them to fester, the consequences can be disastrous.
And because, like it or not, we all share the same space...
Tumblr media
More than ever, in such an interconnected world, separate spaces don't actually exist. There are, at best, isolated spaces where you can spread a ton of hate, but that hate is going to spill out and end up hurting people who aren't in those spaces, just as it did with Aimkid.
Or more recently, the Yaelokre server:
In my opinion, separate spaces are a myth. You can try to divide them for a time, but there will always be spillover.
Besides that... my end goal is conquering that globe.
I have this dream. A dream of a world that's aware and accepting of all types of plurality. It will be slow going and we'll need a lot of support to get there. And people need to be able to feel hope that it can and will happen.
I'm not sure how common knowledge it is in anti-endo circles, but if you've seen people saying "the future is plural," that started right here with me on this blog. (As far as I know. I suppose others could have said it first.)
But getting to that acceptance means we can't be content in staying in our own isolated corners. It's not viable for the future we want to build.
And when pondering the path to that future, one of the things I've thought a lot about is the response certain firsts will get.
If Aimkid faced such harassment just being an influencer with a moderate following for being a pro-endo traumagenic system, can you imagine the harassment that the first real celebrity to support endogenic systems, or even to come out as an endogenic system themselves, will have to endure?
What will the response be to the first scripted television show that explicitly acknowledges endogenic plurality by name as a real phenomenon? (I mean, the Chicago Med tulpa episode did that with tulpas but slipped under anti-endo radar since anti-endos don't watch Chicago Med.)
Currently, the science and opinions of doctors is overwhelmingly on the pro-endo side.
But it means nothing if that knowledge never breaches the spaces where it's needed most to correct misinformation.
For example, did you know that Stanford University funded an fMRI study into tulpamancers, taking scans of their brains during switching and possession? (Possession is a tulpamancy term for taking control of the body or part of the body without fully switching into front.)
There was an AMA a few months ago about this on r/tulpas.
The budget for the fMRI study was about $50k not counting the pay of the researchers.
Tumblr media
This does a pretty good job illustrating how much interest there is in tulpamancy and endogenic plurality that they were willing to invest so much into this project.
And the study actually found neurological changes during possession!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But if you go into most anti-endo spaces, they'll tell you that this research doesn't exist. That not only does the science not support endogenic plurality, but that absolutely nobody is researching it because it's not real.
And they're able to claim that because they don't bother looking, never listen to the other side, and refuse to accept anything that contradicts their worldview.
These studies are real though, they're being conducted as we speak, and we're going to see far more of them in the future!
Where we are right now though, all three of the creators of the theory of structural dissociation could release a joint statement with the ISSTD that endogenic systems are real and valid tomorrow, and anti-endos would not hear about it in their echo chambers.
In short, I target anti-endos because lies will prevail wherever truth cannot breach.

y’all i just…. AAAAAH
vent about work and creativity and grief incoming
ever since my mom got sick i had to give up my more lucrative “career” day hustle (video editing) and pick up night shifts at a bar. and like. it’s a college dive bar, so the tips are not great.
this particular dive bar is known around the community as the hardest place to work, and the reputation is not for nothin’:
the average server at a normal place has a 4-5 hour shift and covers 3-5 tables. WE, on the other hand, work 10-12 hour shifts with zero mandated breaks and cover 8-10 tables, many of which can seat 8-10 people at a time.
it is exhausting work that has kept me in amazing shape and has kept my sanity during the grieving process… but it’s undeniably hard as fuck.
and i feel like i’m constantly just treading water, not making enough to fully get rid of my credit card debt and move out of this shithole town… i could make so much more money serving in chicago…
yet i’m never working so little as to be able to actually, y’know, write
BUT. but. the job is not why i don’t create as much. the job is not the reason.
the reason is my own dumb brain and my own dumb shame about not being a “responsible” member of society, not being “where i should be” or “where i thought i would be” at 36 years old.
because that concept? it is bullshit. even though my peers who i used to work with in video are all flourishing, it doesn’t matter—they did not have a terminally ill mother living in bumfuck college town of nowheresville, midwaste! so what if they are now getting deals with HBO! that sort of life was maybe never in the cards for dirtbag little ol me!
and also, since like WHEN did i ever care about being a dirtbag loser anyway? being a dirtbag loser is punk rock as fuck????
i am trying to force myself out of thinking that creative pursuits are a “luxury” that must only be pursued once Everything Responsible Has Been Completed—because frankly i don’t even do that shit anyway!!! lmao (what ends up happening is that i spend 5 hours on social media, 0 hours doing laundry, and also 0 hours writing)
so maybe like, fuck twitter, fuck instagram, fuck frittering away my life 5 minutes at a time trying to convince myself i’m totally going to get up and sort thru the mail, and just. do the things i like doing. because THAT is punk as fuck.
basically i’m coming to the conclusion that i have been flailing around trying to escape a situation i am trapped in by being “responsible”—diligent with my money, a good little worker bee, etc etc—and like, very obviously not succeeding, so i might as well live “selfishly” (i.e. creatively)
when i’m dead no one’s gonna be like “feral creep touched our lives by being so on top of her laundry and having a very organized pile of receipts”
no, no they will not!
i still get comments every week or two from readers about how much [save scum] means to them, and fuck if i don’t want to somehow adapt portions of this story and Lethe so she can resonate with even more people outside this fandom…
after, of course, i finish the fic. lmao.

About Today and Your Love is a Waterfall :3
About Today is a shyan fic I started writing for someone and then never finished, but I am still committed to actually finishing it someday.
It takes place in an AU where that last BFU filming trip is really the last and there's no Watcher. So, instead of flying back from New York, Ryan and Shane take the train back across America, and realise their feelings somewhere in the flyover states.
Here's a bit:
The train sways and bumps, gently rocking the whole car. Ryan’s hand clenches around the armrest of his seat. “Relax,” Shane admonishes, “it’s like being on a boat, just move with it.”  “Easy for you to say,” Ryan mutters.  Shane huffs a laugh. “You’ll get used to it. See how you do walking on solid ground when we change trains in Chicago, or after we get off in Los Angeles. It always takes me a minute to adjust.”  “You said you’d done this trip before?”  “Yeah,” Shane replies, stretching his arms over his head. One shoulder joint cracks gratifyingly. “Cheaper to drive into New York maybe, or to fly, but I took the train a couple of times through university, just to try it.”  “Feels like something you’d do,” Ryan says. “An old-fashioned choice.”  “You saying I’m old, Bergara?”  “You said it first,” Ryan laughs.
Your Love is a Waterfall is a Moon Knight wip, from Layla's perspective. I have a lot of feelings about her, and what she went through and how the show doesn't really ever address any of them. Have an excerpt:
It’s the wedding in the Maldives that Layla remembers when she is served with divorce papers in her father’s house in Cairo. The process server hands her the envelope, makes a note on his clipboard to acknowledge her receipt of the papers, and leaves. Layla stands in the open doorway, hands shaking, knowing what she’s going to find inside the brown paper envelope before she even unseals it. He hasn’t answered the phone in three months. He hasn’t called. No one has heard from him since the last time he spoke to her, when he landed in Chicago, three months ago. She feels like a wire, wound tight in a pair of hands, ready to be used to choke the life out of something, out of someone. She clenches her jaw so hard she can feel her teeth creaking.  She turns, and slams the door behind her when she goes back into the house. Pitches the envelope as far as she can throw it. It lands somewhere down the hall, but she doesn’t see, because she’s bent at the waist, a scream erupting into the hands she has pressed over her mouth. It’s all she allows herself.

How to Prepare for Life After Twitter
Tumblr media
Published Nov. 16, 2022Updated Nov. 18, 2022
Sheer chaos has surrounded Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter over the past few weeks. More than half of Twitter’s employees have been fired or have resigned. The verification system no longer means much. And some users have reported problems with security features. So if you have an account on the social network, what do you do?
Unfortunately, there is no simple answer. But this continuing spectacle presents an opportunity for us to learn how to have healthier relationships with social platforms so we are not dependent on any one of them.
First, it is important to understand what is happening at Twitter. Threat experts told me they were concerned that the turmoil at Twitter, including the sudden lack of cybersecurity leaders and many community moderators, will cause parts of the site to stop working and, at worst, that security holes might lead to compromised accounts. But deactivating a Twitter account also poses risks because an impersonator could then more easily manipulate a person’s followers.
What’s more, those who have already left Twitter quickly realized there was no real alternative. Apps like Mastodon, the open-source site that involves posting on a social feed similar to Twitter’s timeline, are tricky for most people to set up. Reddit is more siloed by topics. LinkedIn is work-focused, Pinterest is centered on hobbies, TikTok is video-centric and Meta’s Facebook — well, let’s just say it has its own problems.
“Usually when we have an exodus, we’re going from one place to another,” said Zizi Papacharissi, a professor of communication at the University of Illinois-Chicago. “Here, the problem is, what is the other?”
Yet there is a silver lining. This tumultuous situation with Twitter, according to social media consultants and security experts I interviewed, can serve as a template with valuable lessons for everyone, including casual tweeters and celebrities, on how to safely navigate any social network.
The first lesson is to always have an exit strategy — a plan for what to do with your data and contacts — in case things go awry. Lesson 2 is to avoid over-investing time and energy on any one social media site; hedge your bets by posting on multiple platforms that serve your needs.
And, finally, remember that there was life before any of these social media apps, including Twitter. That will make it easier to forge a path forward.
Let’s unpack how to do all of that.
Plan an Exit Strategy
With any tech service, I always advise having a plan for pulling out your data, including your old photos and musings, in case something changes that makes you unhappy.
For Twitter, follow the steps listed on its site to download a copy of your account data. You could then take actions like deleting sensitive information, such as direct messages. Bear in mind that if you delete a direct message, it will disappear only on your end; the other people in the conversation also need to delete it. Once all parties involved have deleted the conversation, Twitter is expected to purge it from its servers within about 10 days, according to a person familiar with the product, who asked not to be named for fear of retribution. Mr. Musk did not respond to a request for comment on whether he would continue that policy.
Twitter, which laid off its public relations team, did not respond to a request for comment.
Your Twitter timeline is simpler to manage. Tools like Semiphemeral automate the process of purging all your tweets from a specific period, such as those that are older than 30 days.
Whatever you do, though, resist deactivating your Twitter account, several security experts said. In the past, Twitter gave public figures a blue check mark once they had shown the company proof of their identities. But the new system allows anyone to pay $8 a month to get a check mark, making impersonation easier.
Influential people like politicians and celebrities are most likely to be impersonated, but this could also be harmful for anyone who uses Twitter to follow friends and family members. Imagine a scenario in which an impostor creates an account with your name and persuades a relative to wire you some money in an emergency, said Casey Ellis, the chief technology officer of the security firm Bugcrowd. This is more likely to be a problem if you have deleted your real account.
“It’s a cheap attack that could affect anyone,” Mr. Ellis said.
Another part of an exit strategy should be a plan to bring your followers along. You can advertise where else you reside on social media on your Twitter bio, for example, or even write a post about it.
Anil Dash, a tech entrepreneur, listed his Mastodon username on his Twitter profile and said he had used a web tool, Fedifinder, to search for his Twitter contacts on Mastodon. He now has about 11,300 Mastodon followers, a small chunk of his half a million followers on Twitter.
Spread Your Bets
Another way to not be too invested in one site like Twitter is to have an active presence on multiple platforms.
Joseph Rothstein, the chief executive of the digital marketing agency Social Media 55, said to search for overlap between platforms to make it efficient to cross-post on multiple networks.
For example, TikTok creators could easily post their video content on Instagram’s Reels, a TikTok clone. They could also repurpose some of their content on YouTube. Those who like design or home renovation photos might enjoy both Pinterest and Instagram. People who regularly write about their field of work on Twitter, which is text-focused, could consider cross-posting on LinkedIn, the professional networking site owned by Microsoft, or on Mastodon.
Whatever you post about, make sure to use multiple platforms if you care about sustaining a strong social media presence, Mr. Rothstein said.
Then if you need to make a shift, he said, “it’s not switching over to something else more than it is turning the intensity on some of the other platforms.”
Learn to Let Go
If you ultimately decide you want to leave Twitter, you can make your exit by following the steps to deactivate your account, which is done through your account settings.
Being OK with letting go is a valuable lesson that we can apply to any of the social networks, which are all in flux. Ms. Papacharissi, the communications professor, said it was important to remember that if people left Twitter, that was Twitter’s problem.
“Unless you have people who are sharing meaningful information, then you have nothing,” she said.
As long as we have a solid exit strategy and a diversified social media presence, users of these platforms don’t need any one company.

The ‘Barbenheimer Star’ - Technology Org
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/the-barbenheimer-star-technology-org/
The ‘Barbenheimer Star’ - Technology Org
Astronomy’s new blockbuster was announced in New Orleans during the 2024 American Astronomical Society meeting. Astronomers from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) discovered evidence for what they call the “Barbenheimer Star”—an enormous ancient star that exploded in a way previously thought impossible, resulting in an unusual pattern of elemental ashes that left behind a trail of evidence still visible billions of years later.

“We’ve never seen anything like this,” says Alex Ji of the University of Chicago and SDSS, the study’s lead author. “Whatever happened back then, it must have been amazing. We nicknamed it the ‘Barbenheimer Star’ for its spectacular nucleosynthesis.”
Ji and colleagues didn’t see the Barbenheimer Star directly. Instead, they followed the trail back in time using a process called “stellar archaeology.”
Just as archaeologists use evidence found in the present to reconstruct the past, astronomers use evidence found in today’s stars to reconstruct conditions in the ancient universe. Today’s stars are like chemical time capsules—they preserve what a piece of the universe was like when the star was born.
“As we continue to map the sky, obtaining millions of spectra across the galaxy and extra-galactic black holes, astronomers are making great strides in adding to our understanding of how objects in the universe evolve,” said Joel Brownstein, research associate professor in the University of Utah’s Department of Physics & Astronomy and co-author of the study.
Brownstein is the head of data for SDSS and runs the Science Archive Server (SAS), which is hosted by the U’s Center for High Performance Computing. The SAS stores data transferred to Utah from the survey’s telescopes at Apache Point Observatory in North America and Las Campanas Observatory in South America.
To manage the massive data flow, Brownstein led the effort to manage the pipelines that run on the SAS, which perform the scientific data reductions for shepherding the raw data from the telescopes into usable information, known as spectra, for thousands of SDSS members to access and analyze.
“It’s like making a daily feast,” Brownstein said. “Only a few people might make the meal’s courses, but everyone sits down to dinner. A few people cook the pipelines, but millions of individual spectra and their associated parameters are consumed by thousands of people in the collaboration.”
The many collaborators can access the raw data at any time. Ji, the Barbenheimer Star paper’s lead author, initiated the analysis through the SAS platform.
“We’re all very closely working together. None of that would have been possible without Utah, without this central place where we can share ideas and look at each other’s output,” Brownstein said.
The trail of evidence began with a star that, at first glance, appears unremarkable. The star, called J0931+0038, is a distant, bright red star captured in an SDSS image way back in 1999. Twenty years later, the SDSS telescope turned once again to the star – this time in technicolor. The SDSS Milky Way Mapper program observed the star’s spectrum, which measures how much light the star gives off at different wavelengths. A spectrum can reveal many things about a star, such as its temperature and chemical composition—and it was chemistry that first led Ji and his team of stellar archaeologists to notice J0931+0038.
Stars are mostly made of hydrogen and helium, but they also incorporate some of the heavier elements, which were created in previous generations of stars and released into the universe in supernova explosions.
These heavier elements show up as prominent valleys in a star’s spectrum. The SDSS spectrum indicated that J0931+0038 had an unusually low amount of magnesium, prompting further follow up from the Magellan telescopes in Chile. When Ji and colleagues first viewed the follow up spectrum of J0931+0038, they were amazed.
“As soon as I saw the spectrum, I immediately emailed the rest of the team to talk about how to learn more,” Ji said.
(Left) Long ago, the supernova explosion of the Barbenheimer Star releases an unusual mix of chemical elements in to nearby gas clouds. (Right) Today, we can look at J0931+0038 to see that unusual mix of elements and reconstruct the history of the Barbenheimer Star. Image credit: University of Chicago/SDSS-V/Melissa Weiss
Several things made the star different from other stars: low abundances of elements with odd numbers on the periodic table like sodium and aluminum; a large amount of elements close to iron in the periodic table like nickel and zinc; and an overabundance of heavier elements like strontium and palladium.
“We sometimes see one of these features at a time, but we’ve never before seen all of them in the same star,” says Jennifer Johnson of the Ohio State University, another member of the stellar archaeology team.
So what made J0931+0038 look the way it looks? The star formed from the supernova remnant of whatever star was there before – and so its unusual composition means that the star that was there before must have also been highly unusual. It is that ancient, weird star whose remains we see preserved today that astronomers have nicknamed the “Barbenheimer Star.”
Which elements are left behind after a supernova explosion depend on the mass and chemical composition of the exploded star, and also on the details of how it exploded. Whatever the Barbenheimer Star was, it must have been a blockbuster—at least 50 to 80 times the mass of our sun. In fact, that ancient supernova must have been so massive that astronomers are surprised it could happen at all; previous theories predicted that such big stars should collapse straight into black holes, without creating a supernova first. As surprising as it is to learn that such a massive star could go supernova, even that doesn’t explain the full picture.
“Amazingly, no existing model of element formation can explain what we see,” says Sanjana Curtis of the University of California, Berkeley, co-lead of the published study. “It’s not just, ‘oh, you can tweak something here and there and it’ll work out’—the whole pattern of elements looks almost seems self-contradictory.”
The best way to resolve the apparent contradiction is for astronomers to take two approaches simultaneously. First, we need more and better computer simulations to make predictions about what happened with stars in the early universe to create the stars we see today. Second, we need more observations of today’s universe to provide evidence to evaluate the computer simulations. Considering that the SDSS team discovered evidence for the Barbenheimer Star the very first night they followed up their initial observations, we can expect many more blockbuster results in the coming years.
“The universe directed this movie, we are just the camera crew,” says Keith Hawkins of the University of Texas at Austin, the scientific spokesperson for the SDSS collaboration. “We don’t yet know how the story will end.”

Using Grammarly and ProWritingAid
Grammarly and ProWritingAid are grammar and spell-checking plugins for programs like Microsoft Word. They are better at locating spelling and grammar errors than the built-in checker. Plus, they have suggested improvements that make sentences read better.
On a side note, Microsoft recently updated its built-in checker, which impressed me. This attention probably results from Grammarly and ProWritingAid, making them look bad.
Critics of these plugins point out that grammar-checking programs are not perfect which can introduce errors. Big Brother believers point out that both plugins send documents to a server to be processed, which may lead to security and privacy issues.
Each plugin has its strengths and weaknesses. Along with basic grammar checking, ProWritingAid takes a high-level approach that provides one or more examples of rewritten sentences. The sentence’s meaning remains the same, but it reads far stronger. Grammarly’s strength lies in a superior checking database that catches even the slightest error. It also works in real-time, but a change while using ProWritingAid requires a re-run to evaluate this recent change.
Each plugin also has its little quirks. Grammarly has to be closed by clicking on the icon. If the user closes the plugin by clicking on the X, it will restart on the next document (even if you close Microsoft Word). It also only correctly works on the primary monitor. ProWritingAid freezes the document while it works. It also has a bunch of features I never use. Worst of all, it hangs up Microsoft Outlook on my machine. I have disabled and deleted the plugin from Outlook, but it keeps getting reinstalled.
I have two tips for using both plugins. When editing a long document, I use a second small document, temp. I copy sections from the long document to temp and then run the plugins. This process is much faster than analyzing the entire long document. My second tip is to use both plugins in the draft view. It is much easier to see the issues and faster to analyze.
Both plugins trip up slang, intentionally poor grammar, or invented terms. A good example is the dialog for a character with poor English skills, such as a child. During these sections of a document, I ignore all suggestions.
My standard routine is first to do a ProWritingAid pass, and then I do a Grammarly pass. I accept nearly all the suggestions and treat their suggestions as the ultimate authority over my grammar abilities.
However, this brings up an inconsistency. What if the Microsoft Word checker, Grammarly, ProWritingAid, or the editor disagree? I have coined a term for this (that I stole from a movie title), fighting with my family. I place the authority as follows: the editor, Grammarly, ProWritingAid, and then Microsoft Word. But what happens when all three programs consistently disagree with the editor? This situation has happened a few times (especially with commas), and in these instances, I throw up my hands and pick the best-looking correction. Should I look up the rule in The Chicago Manual of Style? Of course, but I have traveled down this rabbit hole, and usually, there is no solid answer, only confusion.
There is an additional issue. Perhaps the resulting documents are bland or too uniform. This argument has merit, but I would counter that a good document is a good document, and an angry reader is an angry reader.
Even with the drawbacks, I see an enormous improvement in my documents. I wish they were available when I was a teenager.
    You’re the best -Bill

Samsung aims to create and expand a healthcare R&D ecosystem through Samsung Health Stack 1.0
Tumblr media
Samsung aims to create and expand a healthcare R&D ecosystem through Samsung Health Stack 1.0. Korea, April 18, 2023 - Samsung Electronics today announced Samsung Health Stack 1.0, a breakthrough in digital health research, at the annual conference and exhibition of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) 2023, held from April 17 to 21 in Chicago. Developed by Samsung Research and Samsung Research America, the Samsung Health Stack is an all-in-one open-source project that aids digital health research by enabling researchers to easily build apps, backend servers, and analysis tools for wearable devices based on the Android and Wear OS operating systems. Advancements in smartphones and wearables have the potential to revolutionize healthcare research and the development of data-based biomarkers. However, utilizing these devices for research often requires new mobile health apps and services. This requires medical researchers to invest significant amounts of time and money in fields that may be unfamiliar to them, creating obstacles to the expansion of innovative technologies. Samsung developed the Samsung Health Stack to help overcome those obstacles. The project included App SDK, web portal, and a backend system to make system construction simpler, enabling researchers to focus on their research. Developers can build necessary applications quickly and easily, while participants can rest assured that the data they provide is being managed securely. “The Samsung Health Stack, which aims to make it easier and safer to acquire digital health data, will lower the barriers between medical researchers and digital technology experts, serving as a foundation for innovation in the digital health industry,” said Yunsu Lee, Vice President and Head of Data Intelligence Team at Samsung Electronics. “By promoting the development of digital health services, we hope to ultimately improve the quality of life for people around the world. We also hope that the Samsung Health Stack, being an open-source project, will be helpful to many people in the field, and we welcome the participation of interested developers and researchers.” When conducting studies with wearables on conditions such as diabetes and hypertension, the Samsung Health Stack allows researchers to simplify the data collection process by entering only relevant information into the web portal. Applications developed with the App SDK can support frequent communication between researchers and participants, leading to better research outcomes. Making the process faster can enable researchers to take on more varied and proactive healthcare projects, helping to create an environment where consumers can enjoy a healthier life. Since unveiling an alpha version at the 2022 Samsung Developer Conference (SDC), Samsung has steadily advanced the Samsung Health Stack, releasing the beta version in March of this year. HIMSS 2023 attendees will get a chance to preview version 1.0, which is scheduled for release in June. Samsung Health Stack 1.0 improves on the alpha version’s research introduction, participant onboarding, wearable data collection, and basic survey functions, and its security and stability have been enhanced for reliability in actual healthcare research. In addition to supporting basic data collection, Samsung Health Stack 1.0 offers an activity task feature that tracks clinical participants’ progress on specific research-related tasks. The survey feature, which enables researchers to acquire data directly from participants, has also been enhanced with a dynamic survey function that can reflect the purpose of the research and researchers’ intentions based on participants’ responses, enabling follow-up actions to be taken afterward. By enhancing the usability of research management tools, Samsung Health Stack 1.0 enables researchers to focus more on research design. It also provides several methods to offer participants relevant information to minimize delays. The documentation provided to developers has also been significantly improved to make it easier to build research systems. Visitors to Samsung’s booth at HIMSS 2023 can experience the Samsung Health Stack’s new features through a mobile app created using the App SDK. They can also experience the process of conducting healthcare research and collecting data with wearables using the mobile app, integrated wearable devices, and web portal. Researchers who contributed to the Samsung Health Stack’s development will be present at the booth to explain the utilization methods and technical details. Although it is still in the early stages as an open-source project, many healthcare companies are considering utilizing the Samsung Health Stack. Startups such as SALTED and All Round Doctors are collecting data for research purposes and have considered using that data to provide healthcare services. It is expected that the Samsung Health Stack will be used in various fields in the future. Read the full article

Journal Entry #68 - One Tough Cookie...Never Break Character, Flawless Integrity since the Year I was Born
JOURNAL ENTRY #68 Name: Manley M Collins Social Security Number: 5 7 9 – * * – 6 5 4 1 Date of Birth: 06/21 Place of Birth: Washington, District of Columbia Country of Birth: United States of America Date: August 2, 2021
TOPIC: One Tough Cookie…Never Break Character, Flawless Integrity since the Year I was Born
Remembering the quote from my biological father, Mr. Manley Rochelle Nolen, "It does not matter where you are in the world." and my 2021 thought rebuttal, "You made a difference already the day you were born, life wants to see you do it."
I tried to get my money back regarding Lyft's CitiBike, but only was able to get a partial refund. I learn the new rules regarding credit and debit cards are put in place regarding 90 days or less to get refund and the responsibility is to work with the merchant first and second tries, then the bank or credit card company for the third try. There are most likely no refunds after sixty (60) days.
It was tax time again to file my Internal Revenue Service (IRS). I always file it paper because it does something to and overrides the another party that files as well.
I explored WeWork office location at 200 Berkeley St. I got the full tour plus they do mail and printing, too. They lacked storage lockers for the lower memberships. They did offer plenty for office space and open workspace. I explored based on the reason of potentially having another office job or desk job. I was ready, but the job offers never panned out.
I researched and purchased Warner Bros. Mortal Kombat 11 for my PC and smartphones, and watched the movie.
I saw a new book and skimmed through named, "The Power of Habit." Charles Duhigg (he went to Yale and Harvard). I never purchased the book because if you read through my blogs and see how I tried to be apart of them, the ivy leagues did not let me in so I began disconnecting and stop supporting or throwing my money at the ivy leagues ecosystem. I cannot stop all of it, but the ones I can read or see the credentials.
Boston Housing Authority Zero Income Statement validity.
I met with Crunch Fitness Regional GX Manager to possibly teaching there and the new locations. The Regional GX Manager gave the encouragement to get NASM AFAA Group Fitness Instructor certification. I renewed my membership with Planet Fitness, but added Crunch Fitness because of the ability to bodybuild or powerlift with higher weights and group fitness classes. The Regional GX Manager stated Crunch did not accept IFTA certificates.
I took advantage of the Planet Fitness's Rockbot. The staff and I had fun liking and disliking each other's song played. I went through almost the entire catalog of songs, especially holiday themed stuff and Sunday/Saturday had the gospel. Every Massachusetts Planet Fitness knew I was in the building when I came in with Kelis 'Milkshake', Megan Thee Stallion 'Body', Justin Bieber 'Yummy', Drake 'Sticky', Shakira 'Waka Waka', or Martin Solveig '+1', 'Do It Right' and 'Places'
When Walmart is unavailable, of course, I go to the local Target in Boston or Cambridge. CVS Pharmacy always get me with the coupons in email and on the app.
I had to temporarily serve as a process server for Defendants in lawsuits. Cook County Sheriff's office plus ProofServe helped served the Chicago area of Defendants. I did like the electronic automation system. ProofServe also helped served the Boston area of Defendants. ProofServe was darn sure cheaper than ABC Legal, which tried have you make a mortgage or car payment to have someone served, thus maxing out my DiscoverCard.
I had a dental appointment with Trinity Dental, but from the dental exam I could not get my teeth cleaning because of long-term infections, but had really good tooth pulled (extracted) for one infection and still not teeth cleaned. I was referred to a specialist for dental work I did not want to examine how get the other long-term infection (root canal).

MGH Psychiatrist Thoughts: Do I have any thoughts on running for Mayor or President of the United States?
Obama, Kamala, and African-American/minority leaders are paving the way and making it more realistic. I know I have the skills and talent to do the position, but to make it real for me - for Mayor, I need one (1) million solid supports and voters or 70% of the entire voting rolls, plus 1 million dollars to run so that is $1.00 per person. For Governor, I need 70% of the entire voting rolls and $10.00 per voter. For President, I need solid 100 million voters to assure the win and $100 million dollars to start fundraising, which is $1.00 per person. This would make it realistic for me in The United States of America. I need my education debt paid for because I cannot or plan to go to Harvard University in getting more debt.
Otherwise, my realistic plans is my reality to do France and rise through the ranks to the Elyees Palace with family and all. I am not dumb, but only try once. France is my current focus. I can let go my rage and anger against America or the emotions created from life experiences.
After seeing candidates go into debt for position, I will never do.

With the current set of lawsuits, I started requesting audits of the cases.
My University of Phoenix commencement card came in the United States Postal Service mail. When I got to Atlanta and saw the jumbotron, the card indicates how to introduce me on stage. It was impressive. I went to the Sanctuary nightclub at 3209 Paces Ferry Place NW, Atlanta, GA. I did not make it to MJQ Concourse club. I went to Atlanta Public Library and use their computers. I had a new Atlanta hairstylist who did my hair. My commencement was livestream via YouTube…so impressive. Check my photoblogs for the actual pictures. I did celebrate with my Rho Kappa Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity brothers during commencement weekend.
