while talking to a friend i realised that the reason i loved hollow knight and hello charlotte and library of ruina/lobcorp so much is because they are so fundamentally about everything

they will swallow your entire life because you can see your world reflected in it whole

they are about faceless monarchs, egoistic gods and terrible creations. they are about decaying kingdoms, about what comes after the death of everything else. they are about life springing forth, and new begginings from the mud. they are about terrible parents that you will never be able to loathe how you wish you could. they are about choices, the ones that were made and the ones that never could have been made, about the people who lost the ability to choose and those who were never meant to but chose anyway. they are about the gruesomeness of what comes up in the mirror, too. about how difficult and weird it is to connect with others. about how you mourn, everyday, something, or someone, maybe yourself, until you find a way out. and about how, despite this, you have stopped mourning so long ago that you can look at that big hole full of dead kids and carry on anyway. they are about the people you will never know, the stars in the sky that have died long ago but still shine; about those that you meet only moments before their doom, though years it might be, that you will never truly understand, and their light will haunt you until the day you die too.

it is about identity and fear and ego and humanity and journeys and trust and acceptance and change and those you could never save.
