TW: brief mention of child abuse and self-harm!

James was slicing up carrots for his soup when the tip of the knife nicked his finger, allowing a drop of red blood to swell up at his fingertips. He dropped the knife on the floor and started cursing like a sailor, his finger in pain. 

Regulus, who was in the other room, jumped up off the couch at all the commotion and ran over to James to help him out. 

“Jamie, what happened,” Regulus asked frantically. 

“My finger, I cut it,” he holds out his finger for Regulus to see. “It hurts Reggie.” He sticks his bottom lip out like a whiny child. 

Once Regulus got a closer look at his finger, he frowned. “I don’t see anything Jamie, all I see is this drop of blood.” He holds James' finger between his fingertips, inspecting it for any further damage. 

“That’s where I got cut, Regulus.” He yanks his finger away. 

“Cut?” He questions. “You mean nicked or grazed with the knife. It’s not even bleeding anymore James.” 

James frowns, looking down at his finger with the now dried blood on it. “Whatever, it hurt a lot Regulus. I guess you wouldn’t understand though, seeing as I do all the cooking in this house.” 

Regulus rolled his eyes, and put his hands on his hip. “Ah yes, I wouldn’t understand the pain of  a little prick of a knife even though I only ever, you know, was abused as a child. I must not know the pain of a knife even though I used one on myself for a couple months. I guess that never happened, I must have forgotten the pain.” He raises his eyebrows. 

James looks guilty as ever for saying that now. He’s not quite sure what to say, so he says nothing. He only moves towards their medicine cabinet and grabs out a band-aid. Regulus follows after James, taking the band-aid from James’ hands, looking him in the eye as he does. He unwraps it and wraps it around James' finger. 

“I’m only joking James.” Regulus starts, breaking the silence. “I would never make you feel guilty for that.” 

James visibly releases the tension in his body. “Merlin, I still feel bad. I’m sorry Reggie baby.” 

“James, it’s really truly OK. I’m healing, and I’ve healed those old wounds.” He brings the now bandaged finger to his lips, kissing the boo-boo better. 

James hugs Regulus. “I love you so much darling. I’m so sorry for saying that, but I am also so proud of you.” Regulus embraces James back, inhaling the scent that Regulus has come to identify as James. 

“Now can you finish cutting the carrots, or do you need me to do it, drama queen?” He asks, pulling away from James. 

James looks at the carrots, the knife on the floor, and lastly at Regulus. “Can you do it? I’m afraid if I put too much pressure on it, then it might fall off.” he states plainly. 

“Fine, you whiny baby.” He sighs, picking the knife up from off the floor and getting a clean one out. James takes a seat on the counter, watching Regulus resume cutting the carrots. 

“And we just couldn't have that happen could we?” Regulus says with no remorse. 

James smiles. “No, because then I would have one less finger to finger you with, and I don’t think that you would like that. You like me and your fingers too much.” 

Regulus blushes and almost cuts himself as his motions falter at James' words. “James.” 

“I love you Regulus,” he smirks, jumping off the counter and wrapping his arms around Regulus' waist. Regulus cuts the rest of his dinner like that, with James' arms wrapped around his waist. It gets annoying when Regulus has to move around the kitchen, but the love that Regulus has for James makes up for it.

this one kinda got away from me ngl, but i think its kinda cute and silly! have a great start of your week lovelies!
