This gold French hood was first worn by Catherine Steadman as Joan Bulmer, one of the ladies in waiting to Queen Katherine Howard in the 2010 fourth season of The Tudors. Subtle red beading just at the edge of the hood appears to have been removed by the time Sai Bennett was seen wearing the piece as princess Mary Tudor in the 2020 second season of The Spanish Princess.
Can’t get enough French Hoods? Check out the other French Hoods we have documented here at Recycled Movie Costumes.

Vanishing Act or Must-Read? Diving into The Disappearing Act by Catherine Steadman - A Review
Every so often, a novel comes along that grabs you by the collar and refuses to let go until the very last page. Catherine Steadman’s The Disappearing Act is one such book, a masterfully crafted psychological thriller that kept me hooked from start to finish. After devouring this gripping tale, I had no hesitation in awarding it a full 5 stars. Plot Overview The story follows Mia Eliot, a…

Bookclub Reads 2023
I joined a bookclub! I have wanted to join an IRL bookclub for the longest time and finally found one in my local area which looked so welcoming. My hope for joining a bookclub was to be able to chat with other likeminded bookworms like myself and ultimately come across books I usually wouldn’t stumble upon. I wanted to read genres I wouldn’t typically reach for and find some new favourites. I…

The Family Game
The Family Game review #NetGalley #TheFamilyGame #books #reading #thrillers
Title: The Family Game Author: Catherine Steadman Genre: thriller Thank you, NetGalley, for this book. This book is preposterous. Just flat out no way in the world would any of this happen. And I don’t mean this in a fun way. I gave this three stars, but that was generous. The main character jumps to conclusions that no actual person would. I rolled my eyes a lot at her. From GoodReads:…

GoodReads Synopsis:
Harry is a novelist on the brink of stardom; Edward, her husband-to-be, is seemingly perfect. In love and freshly engaged, their bliss is interrupted by the reemergence of the Holbecks, Edward's eminent family and the embodiment of American old money. For years, they've dominated headlines and pulled society's strings, and Edward left them all behind to forge his own path. But there are eyes and ears everywhere. It was only a matter of time before they were pulled back in . . .
My Review:
Once I got to the part where Harriet (Harry) left the tape recording playing and Edward didn't even flinch or confront her, I knew! Even though, I couldn't quite figure out the 'why' at the time but, I knew at that moment. Harry really dropped the ball many times but every time, Edward kept pushing and something about that was 'off' to me.
The whole family is crazy, which is something that I wanted to explore further -- I wish there was a book just about this family and how they got to the point of these awful games. Not one person in this family (save for the children) was redeemable. The games this family plays are for psychopaths!
As the story unfolds at the very end, I wasn't shocked but I still don't understand the 'why'. How it was explained, didn't make sense to me to risk it all for what?! Also, why was the list of women needed? That didn't push the plot forward. Again, not one adult in this family, married into or otherwise, had any redeeming qualities.
One-Word Summary: Psychopaths

Something in the Water by Catherine Steadman
Catherine Steadman’s debut novel starts off in an attention-grabbing way that cannot fail to intrigue…and I will leave you to find that out for yourself. We are then led back through preceding events to discover exactly how our narrator got to this point, she being Erin, a documentary maker and by her own admission, fairly ordinary person. Erin is in a relationship with Mark and the book takes…
