#Cat haters

i understand not liking cats. there are just some animals that aren't our favorites and that aren't easy to get along with. what i don't understand is the absolute revolt that people who don't like cats feel towards them. it baffles me, the way people will literally shutter at the mention of cats just because they don't like them.

i myself am not a dog person, but i don't hate dogs or dislike them enough to treat them the way people who don't like cats treat cats. my initial reaction wouldn't be to kick, shove, run over, or shoot one. i wouldn't let loose a dog on the street just because i didn't like it. it's an animal, and it's meant to be cared for. if you don't like an animal and you see it while you're out, you leave it alone. if it's in your possession for whatever reason, you take care of it until you find someone who will care and love for it.

the world gave me reasons to potentially hate dogs, but i didn't take the bait. if you can't handle owning a cat, that's perfectly fine, and if you don’t like them, that's fine too. however, treating them/their existence like they were made to haunt/disturb you is not okay. all animals are just trying to get through life like the rest of us. the things we don't like about them, especially in regards to domesticated animals who often depend on us, are not enough to treat them like trash.

Like. I understand not liking cats and having had a bad experience with cats and wanting to avoid cats. That’s fine. But I can’t stand it when people constantly call cats evil, call them bad pets, or treat cat owners as bad people because they hate cats. Like. I grew up with cats. I know how loving they can be. And that kind of slander just absolutely hurts. You can dislike cats without being a complete dick to cats and cat owners. Also. If you are the kind of asshole that says that you would “punt a cat”, please stay the fuck away from me forever.

I just had to see a post with my own two eyes in which Izzy saves Fang’s dog’s life by murdering some random cat instead. The story even addressed that it was a different species, and handwaved away as “Blackbeard won’t notice.”

I just. The level of hatred and violence this society has for cats is so unreal. This dog had to live soooooo bad and we get to see how sweet and valuable its life is, but this poor cat is just killed and then tossed at Fang like a bag of trash!? “It was sick anyway.” Why’d you have to change the species, huh!?? Why not sub in an actual dog that was “sick anyway”!?!?? It doesn’t even make any sense that this would work and yet we just couldn’t possibly kill a dog, oh no, but cats are disposable; their lives don’t matter. Just fuck all the way off!!!

The amount of people who are confused about others liking Cats is baffling to me. People like things you don’t like. People like things you think are cringy. And no, not just for a joke. In real life. Just because you think Cats is weird and bad doesn’t mean everyone else does. It’s not that hard of a concept to grasp.
