I saw a video on Tik Tok about how Trump and JD Vance’s fear mongering about Haitian immigrants is likely to trigger an uptick of hatred and violence towards Black Americans in general, and man did that break my fucking heart. I’m white personally, but goddamn I am sick of this. I remember the 2000s, I remember how the “war on terror” turned into anyone who even just looked vaguely Middle Eastern or belonged to a religion that uses head coverings being treated like dangerous criminals. I remember the “border crisis” turning into an open invitation to discriminate against anyone of Latino/Hispanic descent. I remember how the pandemic turned into a wave of violence against Asian Americans. I don’t want to do this again. I don’t want to sit around listening to bigots talk about my fellow humans like they’re some sort of dangerous animals. I don’t want to open my news app to stories of innocent people being hurt and killed for no valid reason.

I don’t give a fuck what your skin color is, or what country you/your ancestors came from. If you can’t see how disgusting this is, how absolutely despicable it is to act this way towards your fellow man, I don’t know what to say.

This year is weird. For some reason it hasn't felt like Halloween, my favorite time of year. I guess probably all the chaos with the bathroom and my general exhaustion. I didn't even really decorate this year. I started but then everything was so cluttered the decorations just felt like clutter more than anything.

Because I keep losing track of time I keep forgetting about the election. Every time I realize the date it's a jolt of dread all over again.

I've said it before but I'll say it again, everyone keeps talking about Trump and sure that's bad. What really scares me is JD Vance.

If we lived in the world that Vance wants I literally wouldn't have the life I have. I've been thinking a lot about women not being able to have mortgages or credit cards or bank accounts without men just a few decades ago. Literally during both my parents' lifetimes (though just barely). Not having job protections.

In JD Vance's world, I wouldn't have my little house. Or my car. Those things have just my name on it. I wouldn't have my 815 credit score because I wouldn't have a credit card. I would suffer from debilitating pain due to reproductive issues because I wouldn't have access to birth control for my endometriosis.

I wouldn't be with my partner, who is quite possibly the best thing that ever happened to me because I would have married the first person who would have had me in my early 20s because that's what women did to leave their childhood home. It wasn't autonomy but at least it gave you your own space to be subjugated in. If you were lucky you found a good man and it didn't feel so cramped. If it had been my first boyfriend, who would have married me, we'd probably be miserably sniping at each other now fifteen years later because I wouldn't be allowed to leave him. Probably with a couple of kids I never wanted running around underfoot.

Maybe I'm being dramatic. But maybe I'm not. I know people who want the same things that JD Vance wants. It's the "natural order" and "what god intended". Even my own father says dumb shit even though he raised six girls, none of whom are any kind of submissive. He says the stuff though, even though he doesn't believe it when you dig in, because he's been told by his religion and his party that that's how it's supposed to be.

I'm just saying when people tell you who are, believe them. And I think there's a scarier future for women than just not having access to abortion, but that's the only part of it it feels like we're talking about.
