There are a lot of different traditions during Carnaval, but the allegoric cars players have been building are known to be part of the Parade of the Samba Schools, so I thought I'd explain how it works!
For starters, the Parade is a competition. Each team is called a samba school and they have their own flag and history. People can be really hard or die for their teams! Some are connected to soccer teams, like Gaviões da Fiel (the school) is connected to Corinthians. The two main parades (of this type of carnaval) happen in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
Each school has one hour to completely walk across the sambódromo, and in that hour they have to tell a story or message. That is one of the things they are judged on! The criteria are the drums, the samba-enredo (enredo literally means plot, but this is a genre of samba), the evolution (how the story develops), the harmony (is everyone singing together? Do the people in the parade know the lyrics?), the plot itself, the allegoric cars and accessories, the costumes, the opening act, and the mestre-sala and porta-bandeira.
The parade is divided into sections called alas, and each one of them functions as a chapter in the story being told and have their own separate choreography. The first one is the Comissão de Frente (the opening act). They set the tone for the rest of the team and the public, so it’s common to see celebrities here to get the audience hyped.
Another crucial part is the drums. They are setting the beat that everyone is dancing to, so they shouldn’t make any mistakes. To both hype them and keep the pacing is the Rainha da Bateria (the Queen of the Drums). She’s a woman dancing samba in very minimal clothing but very heavy accessories. This is a very prestigious spot, the dream of any passista (this is what the samba dancers are called). Since they are the face of the parade, celebrities are sometimes given the position, and not all of them deserve it.
There are other passistas atop the allegoric cars, but they are not the only type of dancers. There’s the Ala das Baianas (ala of the baiana women): older (usually black but not necessarily) women dancing in traditional clothing. Honestly one of my favorite parts of the parades.
But my favorite part is the mestre-sala and porta-bandeira. There are several throughout the parade, but only the first one is graded. They are a couple: the man is the mestre-sala dancing around the porta-bandeira (literally 'flag carrier'), who dances with the school flag, and wears a big skirt, usually in the school colors. I wanted to be one when I was a kid, they dance doing twirls and it just looked like so much fun.
There are other unnamed alas, of course, and the allegoric cars.
The samba schools are very tied to black history and black communities, so their stories are usually very powerful. Like the year they represented a former president as a blood sucking vampire with the presidential sash, or this year, where they showed a statue of a known slaver graffited and on fire. Seriously, some of these cars are insane, and most of them have moving parts while also being light enough to be pushed or motored across the sambódromo, but sturdy enough to support all the dancers on top of it. A true feat of engineering! See the size of the woman near the statue's feet compared to the whole thing?
Most people celebrate carnaval by going to street parties called "bloco de carnaval" (basically a mini parade with live music), but these huge parade still get a big audience, despite streaming so late at night.
Here's this year's presentation from Vai-Vai if you're curious to see everything in motion! Originally, I had put a link to Estácio de Sá's presentation, but some politicians want to apply sanctions to Vai-Vai because it represented cops as demons. A few days later, a white man attempted to kill a black man, and the black man was arrested despite witnesses telling the cops what really happened. When news broke out, they kept him in prison on claims of "resisting arrest." So, why is it wrong to say cops are devils?
Anyways, the Vai-Vai presentation is about celebrating blackness and black creativity and resilience. Happy Carnaval! The winners this year were Mocidade Alegre in São Paulo and Unidos da Viradouro in Rio de Janeiro. You can look up their presentations if you want to.

In a sunshine state of mind (Em um estado de espírito ensolarado)
Be a little more you, and a lot less them.
Only from the heart can you touch the sky.
Make today magical.
Keep your heels, head and standards hight. (Mantenha seus saltos, cabeça e padrões altos)
Dream big, sparkle more, be strong. (Sonhe grande, brilhe mais, seja forte)
Dream without fear, love without limits. (Sonhe sem medo, ame sem limites)
She is fierce. (Ela é feroz)
Sobre ela? Alma transparente, sorriso aberto, gênio forte, coração sensível.
Decifra-me, mas não me concluas.
I am my own definition of perfect.
He said, "you are beautiful" I told him "Beautiful is a lazy and lousy way to describe me." - Ijeoma Umebinyuo.
But I see your true colors shining through. I see your true colors and that’s why I love you. So don’t be afraid to let them show your true colors. True colors are beautiful like a rainbow - Cyndi Lauper (Mas eu vejo suas verdadeiras cores brilhando.
Perfectly imperfect. (Perfeitamente imperfeita)
Just a summer kind of girl. (Apenas um tipo de garota do verão.)
Strawberry lipstick state of mind.
Her smile is like armor & every day she go to war.
A melhor maquiagem é a luz do sol no rosto. ☀️
Can see the night skies in the mirror of your eyes.

On racism in the QSMP fandom
The QSMP was a large, year-long event intent on uniting the world's assorted Minecraft communities. The idea was that people would share languages and cultures, and intended on helping everyone gain cultural awareness and set aside their own biases.
Because of this, the QSMP largely centered on the most beautiful and fun parts of each culture. Carnaval, Dia de los Muertos, French Independence Day, and the Fourth of July come to mind first.
However, cultures are not simply the existence of fun holidays, outfits, and foods.
It is the way people speak, behave, and think.
It is the reason why, in private text messages, even in English, I will use "Spanish" punctuation rules. It is why I make certain jokes, even if I know they won't work the same in English. It is why I dress the way I do, why I express interest the way I do, and scream the way I do.
Language affects culture, and as such I have my first point: Spanish-speakers and gender. I should preface this by saying that the way Spanish affected my perception of gender is different than others like me - because everything has a gender, in my mind, gender is largely irrelevant. What should it matter if a table is a girl, or a pencil is a boy, or a teacher is any specific gender? However, in many others, this leads to a stronger adherence to gender, because EVERYTHING has a gender. See: Vegetta. He, personally, does not understand the idea of someone who is not a girl or boy, and therefore struggles with the idea of calling someone that. For him, gender is firmly entrenched.
Now, if this personally affects people, then I do apologize. However, there is a strange habit of people looking down on Spanish speakers for "struggling to catch up". This is, in the nicest way, a xenocentric attitude. The idea that your culture is automatically "better" and "more civilized" than another is the outright definition of xenocentrism.
In the English language, there IS a gender-neutral pronoun ("they"), but in Spanish there is no such thing. You would default to male if you do not know the gender of the person you are talking about. The idea that someone could simply change their language - ESPECIALLY when there isn't yet a consensus on how to accommodate enby people, because ending things with the letter 'e' has not officially been deemed 'correct' by all Spanish queer people (source: I AM ONE) - because you want them to is unrealistic. You may be upset, but you must also be understanding.
Another, similar, example is one of ForeverPlayer. Please know that I am not defending him, I believe that an adult kissing a minor is wrong, even when it is lawful. However, many Brazilians have already noted that this was seen as NORMAL at the time, and that many people had been much worse.
And we cannot forget the reason that these allegations were brought up in the first place: racism and xenocentrism. The person who had brought the allegations to the public eye was not the victim, but a random person who had already attempted to cancel several other Brazilian streamers. Yes, they did a good thing in making people more aware of the streamer's behaviors, and for that I commend them, but it was not done with good intentions. People can defend themselves with "oh, I watch XYZ Latino streamer, I'm not racist" all they want, but have any of you truly contemplated your biases? Do you not hear how close you are to saying "I'm not racist, I have a black friend"?
White people only care about "understanding" cultures when it is appealing to them. When it is "aesthetic" and "fun", when the people they know are "entertaining".
People of color should not need to be entertaining to be seen as valid. They do not even need to be seen as good people to be seen as valid human beings with their own thoughts and emotions and rights.
The problem is that you wish to coopt the "beautiful" parts of our cultures, but you do not care about the "ugly" parts. You praise us for being "interesting", but you condemn everything that is not.
Your understanding of us is nothing more than fetishization. And THAT is the true problem with the QSMP fandom.
#qsmp#qsmp fandom crit#vegetta777#foreverplayer#racism in fandom#fetishization#xenocentrism#if i didnt explain things well enough uhhhh english aint my first language im sorryyyyy :(#pls dont be mean to me plsplsplspls

Deep dives into folklore: Belgian folklore
Belgium, nestled in the heart of Europe, boasts a cultural landscape steeped in folklore and mythology that has thrived across centuries. This exploration delves into the captivating narratives and enduring traditions that have shaped Belgian folklore, illuminating the cultural tapestry of this diverse and enchanting region.
Belgian folklore is adorned with a diverse array of mythical creatures, each adding its own hue to the cultural canvas. From the water-dwelling Nixen to the forest-dwelling Wild Huntsman, these fantastical beings embody the collective imagination of the Belgian people, woven into the fabric of their storytelling traditions.
In the southern Walloon region, folklore weaves tales of the Géants, colossal figures parading through festivals, representing both mythical and historical elements. The Géants embody a living mythology, embodying the resilience and spirit of the communities they traverse, leaving an indelible mark on the cultural identity of the Walloons.
Flemish folklore is colored by traditions that celebrate the cyclical nature of life, from the lively Kattenstoet (Cat Parade) in Ypres to the whimsical Carnaval de Binche. Amidst these festivities, the figure of the 'Huisgod,' or house spirit, stands as a guardian and symbol of domestic harmony, reflecting the importance of familial ties in Flemish culture.
Belgium's folklore is haunted by spectral entities, such as the Kludde and Lange Wapper, whose eerie tales resonate across generations. These ghostly apparitions, born from the depths of Belgian imagination, serve as cautionary figures, embodying the moral compass of a society navigating the boundaries between right and wrong.
Belgium's rich history has given rise to mythic tales surrounding ancient landmarks, such as the dolmens of the Ardennes. These megalithic structures, wrapped in the cloak of legend, connect the present to the distant past, symbolizing the enduring legacy of Belgian folklore in shaping perceptions of the land itself.
While rooted in tradition, Belgian folklore continues to adapt, finding new expression in contemporary culture. From literature to cinema, modern storytellers draw inspiration from ancient myths, breathing new life into the timeless narratives that have defined the Belgian cultural narrative.
In the realm of Belgian folklore and mythology, the tales, creatures, and traditions form an intricate web, binding communities and generations together. The colorful threads of these narratives, woven into the cultural fabric, transcend time, offering a glimpse into the collective imagination of a nation that cherishes its mythical past while embracing the ever-evolving stories that shape its cultural identity. The richness of Belgian folklore stands as a testament to the enduring power of storytelling, echoing through the ages and resonating in the hearts of those who continue to unravel its captivating threads.

Hazbin hotel angel oc ideas (cuz I can’t draw)
Mexican Folklorico dresses
This one’s kinda personal (cuz I’m Mexican) but Angels using their wings as a form of dancing is so fjagendydb I love my culture
Idk if only higher ups angels can have wings since in the ‘welcome to heaven’ song shows lots of winners who don’t have wings but STILL
This’ll be something I’ll go more into in another oc idea but hispanic birds are rlly colorful so imagine angels who have wings that match the wings of those birds? (Can you tell I watched Rio)
I got this idea because I went to a Cinco de mayo party with my family once and while looking at the dancers I noticed one with a white and baby blue folklorico dress and I thought to myself “Those look like angels”. I’ve thought about it ever since and seeings heaven in the show made me remember
Vizie is also a Hispanic sister so this idea might not be far from her range
Brazilian angels celebrating Carnaval
Ok now you can tell I watched Rio
THIS ONES FOR MY HISPANIC BROTHERS AND SISTERS ☝🏽☝🏽 (I’m def getting that wrong)
Carnaval is such a cool tradition to me
IT MAKES SENSE, Brazilian birds are so gorgeous??? And in carnaval you see Brazilians pay tribute to their beautiful birds by dressing as them and having whole parade floats based on them
Imagine the opening of one of the episodes showing the people in heaven getting ready for a carnaval while singing a song inspired by “mas Que nada” or “La vidas un carnaval”
cuz we all know ‘welcome to heaven’ sucked doodoo
Guardian angels
This is an idea that I think would most likely be in the show since the angels who come down to rein in hell definitely give me guardian angel vibes
Guardian angels are such a breathtaking concept to me, I love them idk
I can imagine a guardian angel who fell in love or really liked whoever they were protecting them failing and experiencing a sense of loss
The idea of a guardian angel failing at their job is so sad, esp when it’s a baby?? :((
I can think of a higher up angel (like one in the court episode) connecting with Charlie because the two experienced grief and have them help Charlie with convincing Sera that sinners have a chance to change
Cupids
CUPIDS>>>>>
THEYRE SO CUTE
I think a concept similar to this happens in helluva boss but idk I haven’t watched the show in a bit. I don’t wanna get into it cuz like.. yeah
okok not only are they cute but they can show that there’s some sort of rebellion against higher up angels by secretly going down to hell and having them have a chance at love
Cupid x Angel who goes to kill sinners? Yum
