Hello! can you write a Cardan x reader (already in a relationship) where he reacts to someone asking the reader if they want to dance, or like go on a date? Luv u <3
Territorial : Cardan Greenbriar x Reader
Desc: 2.9k wc, Cardan isnât pleased when someone makes a move on y/n despite y/n and Cardan having already been together for awhile.
Warnings: jealously, flirtations, mentions of fighting, protectiveness, a little suggestive at the end. Not proofread
Cardan glared sharply across the room as some man stood before y/n. Heâd noticed the way the man had approached her, the manâs hungry eyes scanning her body. It was enough to make Cardan want to charge across the room and have him arrested over just looking at his queen that way. But Cardan forced himself to behave and instead glared as intensely as he could.
Cardan watched y/n try to excuse herself from the man. His eyes scrutinizing the way the man stepped around her to keep her attention. Cardan rose slightly from his seat until he saw y/n give the man a fake smile and step around him. He slowly lowered himself back into boss seat, but his eyes never left the man. Not even a as y/n made her way back to Cardan with their crystal glasses in her hands.
As yn reached the table, she saw the way Cardan was shooting daggers at someone. Following his eye sight, yn noticed the man from the counter was still standing where sheâd left him. Yn spun back around and slid into her seat beside Cardan, grabbing his closest hand in hers. âHoney?â She questioned softly as she set the glasses down.
Cardan glanced over at y/n briefly before his gaze snapped back to the man. âHe looked at you funnyâ was the only thing Cardan was able to mutter. He heard y/n sigh softly as she squeezed his hand. Cardan sighed as well and shook his head as his willed his eyes to leave the man.
âIâm sure itâs nothingâ y/n stated calmly.
âIt looked like he was trying to check you out" Cardan huffed, once again glaring over at the man in question.
Y/n shrugged, hoping her nonchalant response would make him calm down. âOkay, so?â She asked softly, playing with his fingers as she sipped on her drink. Y/n knew he wasnât giving up that easily when she saw he still hadnât touched his own drink yet.
âSo, does he not know weâre together?â Cardan asked, his lips pursed as he clenched his jaw. He knew y/n would never betray him. But, Cardan couldnât help the fact he was mad the man didnât seem to know y/n was with him. After all, Cardan wanted everyone to know that. So it suggested he wasnât doing a good job of showing how proud he was that she was his and he was hers.
Y/n hummed softly, setting her drink down as she turned to face him. âCardan,â she whispered, playing with the loose curls hanging by his right temple. âYou donât need to worryâ y/n promised, letting her fingers trail down his cheeks as they slipped from the curl. âI told him that you and I are together as soon as he asked me outâ she swore, stroking his sharp jawline.
Cardan leaned into her warm and comforting touch, his tense features relaxing slightly. âBut, why didnât he alr-â he began, cutting himself off as he stiffly straightened his posture suddenly. Cardanâs storming eyes rushed over to y/nâs face , âwait..! What? He what?!â.
Y/n nibbled on her bottom lip and sighed, âCardan-â.
Cardan shook his head, his varying emotions flickering in his wide eyes. âHe asked you outâ He muttered, still in disbelief. Was this man truly that ignorant or moronic?
âI said no, obviouslyâ y/n calmly spoke, fingers dancing over his face again.
Cardan huffed and stood up, glaring across the room again. âHow didnât he know we were together?â He asked aloud. However, just as y/n was about to respond, Cardan continued. âDo I need to show you off more?â He wondered, his leg bouncing under him.
Y/n watched Cardan as his brows furrowed as he continued to stare harshly over towards the man sheâd met earlier. Sheâd never seen him this upset over something like this. Although, to be fair, most people knew her heart belonged to Cardan and didnât try to change that.
Nevertheless, she couldnât believe he was so impacted over the man asking a single question. Y/n suppressed a smirk as she moved to block Cardanâs view. She shook her head playfully as she placed her hands on his chest. âNo way... you're actually jealousâ y/n pointed out, watching the emotions bouncing in his beautiful eyes.
âJealous? Me? Noâ Cardan huffed loudly, squinting at y/n.
Y/n raised a questioning eyebrow at him, âright⊠sure.â
âYou know I cannot lie y/nâ Cardan reminded her, before sighing. He shook his head and wrapped his arms around y/n tightly. âIâm not jealous, I'm territorial. Jealous is when you want something that's not yours. Territorial is protecting what's already yoursâ Cardan explained, staring into her y/e/c eyes.
Y/n frowned slightly, âyou donât trust me to stay yours?â
âIt's not you l don't trustâ Cardan admitted, tucking a few wisps of her hair behind her ear.
âHe doesnât matter. I love you and only you, Cardan. Nothing will ever change thatâ y/n promised, smiling as she leaned in to place a tender kiss on his cheek.
Cardan grinned and used his thumb to softly guide her chin closer to his mouth. âI love you tooâ He whispered lovingly. Cardan then crooked his head and placed a needy kiss to her lips. His grin grew as y/n kissed back with just as much passion.
âPlease, let it goâ y/n groaned, running her hand through her hair as she stared at Cardan. She knew he was still jealous territorial. But he was overreacting and it was starting to become tiresome.
Cardan grumbled, âoh come on, you and I both know what he was doingâ. His mind replaying the event in his mind. He couldnât believe the man had tried once again to get y/Nâs attention. It hadnât worked, but Cardan was still pissed.
âItâs not a big deal, just ignore himâ y/n argued with a shrug. She couldnât care less what the man wanted, said, or did. Y/nâs only concern was on keeping Cardan calm and happy. Yet, the whole ordeal was making it difficult as Cardan wouldnât ignore him.
Cardan silently paced back and forth before his throne. He was trying to form a way to end this manâs attempts. Usually y/n handled the punishments and sanctions for the kingdom, so this wasnât Cardanâs speciality. âI could have him beheadedâ He spoke in a monotonous tone.
âCardan noâ y/n scolded, standing up from her throne and making her way to him.
âYes, I could. Iâm the King, loveâ Cardan argued, turning to face her.
Y/n chuckled softly, âIâm aware of that. But, thatâs overkillâ. She reached up and tenderly began rubbing his tense temples with her thumbs. Y/n smiled to herself as she watched Cardan start to crumble at her touch.
âThatâs the pointâ Cardan mumbled weakly. Despite his frustration towards the man, y/nâs touch was making him soften. His eyelashes batted against his cheeks as he felt himself grow tired as she massaged his temples.
âCardanâ y/n whispered very lowly, thumbs still working on his temples. She leaned in and placed a kiss between his brows, âHe doesnât matterâ. Y/n lowered her hands from his head and grabbed his hands, âcan you come to bed now?â
Cardan huffed at the mention of the other guy but quickly switched gears. He nodded and let y/n lead him to their bedroom. âIâm the only one who gets to, right?â Cardan sleepily asked, his hand holding hers tightly. He smiled widely and hummed when y/n responded with her beautiful laughter and a soft âyesâ.
Cardan pulled y/n to his chest, his lips in her hair as he breathed deeply. âIâm sorryâ He whispered Cardan pressed a quick peck to her scalp, âI got protectiveâŠâ.
Y/n hummed and giggled. Shaking her head, she snuggled into Cardanâs embrace, âthatâs an understatementâ. Y/n tilted her head up to look at him as she teased, âI've never seen you that mad before."
âIâve been mad over foolish men making advances towards you beforeâ Cardan argued, pulling their blanket over her shoulders.
âNo Cardan, not like that. Not even when I was being hit on by that weird guy that was one of Lockeâs friendsâ y/n pointed out, raising her brows knowingly at him.
Cardan sighed loudly and shrugged. âThey at least knew that they didnât have a chanceâ He defended quietly.
âNeither does this guy Cardan, you know that right?â Y/n questioned, sitting up so she could look into his eyes.
Cardan gave her a gentle smile and nodded, âI do. Doesnât mean I like him trying so hardâ.
Y/n nodded and lowered her head back to his chest, âheâll stop soon enough when he sees itâll get him nowhere. Now get some sleep handsomeâ.
Cardan hummed and kissed the top of her head again. âYes darling, goodnight my loveâ.
âIâm warning you, youâll want to stopâ Cardan spoke. His voice was professional despite his burning desire to throw the man before him into a lake and tie him to a heavy rock.
âIâm afraid I do not know of what you speakâ The man argued, a smirk on his lips as he watched Cardan closely.
Cardan rose from his throne, holding his head at the precise angle to cause the sun light to glimmer of his crown and into the manâs eyes. As the man shaded his eyes with his hand, Cardan held his head high and neared him. âYou would be wise to stop making advances towards y/nâ Cardan advised.
The man huffed loudly as he lowered his hand to his side. âWhy is that?â He questioned, tilting his head mockingly at the King.
"Sheâs not up for grabsâ Cardan all-but growled. âKeep your dirty hands off my crownâ he ordered. He was quickly losing his patience with his man. Cardan had promised y/n heâd handle the matter civilly. But if this man kept up his behavior, Cardan wasnât sure he could keep to his promise.
âIâm not interested in your crown, Iâm after-â The man argued. â
âI know what youâre afterâ Cardan barked as he glared sharply at the man. âShe is my crown, you foolâ he spat. âIf you think Iâm going to just step aside and let your filthy hands try to touch her, you couldnât be more wrongâ Cardan proclaimed, stepping even closer.
âAll due respect your Highness⊠Maybe you should pick your battles. I fear this is one youâre not going to win. Perhaps you should realize itâs not worth the fightâ The man smugly stated. Despite his lower status, it was evident this guy saw himself as far superior to Cardan. But, that wasnât what truly set Cardan off. Instead, it was the notion that he suggested y/n wasnât worth fighting for.
Cardan stalked closer, his piercing eyes now mere feet from the manâs. âSee, thatâs where youâre wrongâ he declared confidently. âI may not be worthy of her, but Iâm not afraid to continuously strive to beâ Cardan admitted, tâsking at him.
âShe's not the kind of woman you choose your battles for. Y/n is the kind of woman you fight to the death forâ Cardan stated as he stepped even closer. âYou would be wise not to doubt my willingness to throw my life away to remain by her sideâ He concluded, his hot breath hitting the face of the man standing before him. Just as Cardan was about to give an official order for the man to leave his town, y/nâs voice sounded from across the hall.
âThat will not be necessaryâ y/n stated loudly, making her presence known. Sheâd been watching from her secret spot above them; a place Cardan and her spies had shown her. However, as she saw the situation going sideways, she quietly snuck down and landed behind the curtain that hung at the back of their thrones.
Cardanâs flushed face turned towards her as she stepped into view. His eyes showed his deep sorrow that he had slightly deviated from the formal proceedings he was to be doing. But as Cardan watched y/n approach, he noticed her focus wasnât on him. Instead, Cardan noted the way her eyes stared sharply at the other man.
âWhat seems to be the problem?â Y/n questioned formally, showing walking closer to the men. She didnât let her eyes deviate from their intense glare at the man who had been upsetting the person she loved. âYour King has advised you on how to behave, and yet you remain here. Arguing?â Y/n questioned with pretend intrigue.
Cardan felt his cheeks flush as his lips formed a bashful grin upon hearing y/nâs words. He wasnât sure what the final straw was, but he could tell his girl was now pissed as well. Cardan couldnât help the smirk that took over his grin as the man slightly trembled as y/n towered over him from their raised dais.
âDonâtâ y/n ordered, cutting off the manâs stuttering. She tilted her head as her left eyebrow rose. Y/n spun to face Cardan and raised her other eyebrow, âyou didnât make him kneel?â Her voice was quiet enough that only Cardan could hear her.
Cardan shook his head. âI swore to you Iâd keep it professionalâ he reminded her, his voice matching hers. Cardan instinctively grinned back as y/n shot him a loving smile.
As y/n turned back to the man standing in front of their dais, she sighed loudly and tâsked. âThis is how you greet your King?â Y/n asked, waving her hand at the manâs stance. She smirked as the arrogant man glanced over at Cardan before kneeling. âThatâs better, donât you think?â Y/n hummed, looking over at Cardan.
Cardan nodded in agreement. He gave y/n a loving gaze before his eyes turned cold as he looked back at the man. âI will not issue another warning, you are to make no further advances towards y/f/n y/l/n, is that understood?â Cardan commanded.
The man glanced between Cardan and y/n. When he saw both of their gazes were serious and furious, he nodded silently. He watched with newfound fear as Cardan looked him over and smirked.
âOne last matter before Roach removes you from this conference hallâ y/n amended, stepping back. She walked over to Cardan, making show of her taking ahold of his hand. âIf you are to ever disrespect your King, you will be rewarded with a private conference to address such mattersâ y/n warned, shaking her head stiffly. When she felt Cardanâs hand stiffen at the idea of her alone with the man, she decided to continue her explanation. âAnd while that seems to be what youâve been after, I assure you, youâre wrong. The only way you and I will speak again is if you injudiciously try to disrespect your King. And heed this, that is not a context in which youâd like to meet with meâ y/n cautioned, waving for Roach to remove the man.
âYou're honestly really freaking cute when you're jealousâ y/n smirked as she removed her earrings. She then moved her hair to the side in order to unclasp her necklace. Y/n suddenly felt Cardanâs breath hit her exposed neck as he moved behind her and sighed loudly.
âI'm not jealous! At all! He just gives you that.. weird, flirty look, and I don't like it!" Cardan grumbled, helping y/n unhook her necklace. He reached around her and set it on her dresser before spinning her around.
âThatâs practically the definition of jealous,â y/n teased, tapping his nose with her pointer finger. âTruly though, Cardan, you havenât anything to be jealous of.â She promised, moving her finger from his nose over to his cheekbone. Y/n smiled at him as she rubbed his sharp cheekbone silently.
âThe Ghost said he only has one full bookshelf anywaysâ Cardan mumbled, trying to point out any ways in which he could best the man.
Y/n rolled her eyes but couldnât help but be surprised that Cardan went as far as to ask The Ghost to look into the man. âCardan,â she shook her head softly, âI do love books. But even if he had more, it wouldnât matter. I love youâ.
âHe also-â Cardan began, recalling another detail The Ghost had informed him of. He remembered muttering âpft, thatâs it?â to The Ghost countless times earlier today during their conversation on the matter. Surely Cardan could recall those details so he could point out many ways in which he was better than the man.
However, y/n quickly caught on to Cardanâs attempts and shut him down. âCardan, stopâ she stated firmly, reaching her other hand up to cup his face. âI donât care about him. At all. He could have every woman in Elfhame falling for him, and it wouldnât matter. Iâm yours, and youâre mineâ y/n reminded him, squeezing his cheeks.
Cardanâs cheeks flushed as he smiled. His feet shuffled nervously as he pulled y/n to him, his arms tightly wrapped around her. âYou love me and only me, right?" He confirmed.
âOnly you Cardan,â y/n promised, pressing a long kiss to his delicate lips. âIn fact, I was thinking it might help if I prove it to youâ she smirked as she leaned back to catch her breath.
Cardanâs eyes widened briefly before they darkened and he nodded rapidly, all his earlier concerns and doubts erased. He hungrily tugged her hand as he quickly made his way over to their extravagantly decorated bedroom. Cardan spun around and smirked softly back at y/n, âIâm territorial, not jealous. I shall show you the differenceâ.

random facts about myself because this is my blog anyways: ⥠when i was 8 my pinky finger was unfortunately cut a third, like the tip of it yk, by a door that slammed really fast because of a storm at that time, and my cut off finger was joined by inserting a rod in it. the rod is taken out but now i have a funny pinky finger that does not bend. ⥠i am multilingual, aka i can speak marathi, hindi, english, spanish (i cant get the accent right but rest is okay) and korean (beginner level, just enough that i can understand kdramas mostly without subtitles). ⥠i have a fear of heights despite that i am unusually interested in roller coasters and bungee jumping, however my parents refuse to take me to any of these because i will "fall". ⥠my mother is scared shitless of water, so i once made a joke of how i would love to drown in the ocean and was immediately enrolled in a swimming class and that is how my dreams of dying among the phytoplankton and starfishes were destroyed. ⥠i love all types of fruits but banana tastes boring to me now and i also do not like watermelon for some reason. mango, kiwis, muskmelon, apples, oranges, and pineapple are my absolute fav. ⥠i used to have waist-length hair, very wavy and very thick, it was gorgeous but i hated having to maintain that so i cut it off and got a boycut. after that it has grown to a small dora the explorer length hair and it makes me look really innocent so i like this look.
and ofc you cant forget the lovely moots: @napoftustar @thejudeduarte @you-are-my-king-now-cariad @isthataraccoon @technicallyeldritch @ackerbabezzz @batzswrld @archerons-elain @ficnoire2 @sweetestblacktea @bloodmaarked @okeyisenough @thevoidhasarrived @goosemeggs @gewoonaardig2 @massiveladycat @infamouslyclumsy @literally-mariah @simzmil @tum-naam-sochlo-merese-ni-hora @refreshinglyemodemons @sweetdeerart

hi hcs are they accurate?
- Theyâre the power couple to end all power couples, even before having kids
- They give Rhys and Feyre a run for their money but we donât pit Kings and Queens against Kings and Queens in this house and anyways, I digress
- Cardan loves his children
- Naturally, of course, but he has no solid father figure to help him figure out this whole parenting thing
- So heâs nervous about it the first time, of course
- But Jude reassures him over and over that heâs going to be great and he has to believe her
- She wouldnât say it if it wasnât true - right? â,:/
- And by the time kid number three rolls around, Cardan has this dad thing down pat
- He wrestles with his kids all the time, both his sons and his daughters
- One of his sons has a little tail
- Said son is in love with his dadâs tail and Cardan doesnât mind it when his little hands play with the tuft of hair on the end
- Cardan teaches his son how to use it for balance and how to pick up small things with it
- Cardanâs daughter gets jealous that she doesnât have a tail, too
- It stuns Cardan at first, because all he can remember about his childhood is being absolutely humiliated because of his tail and here is his little girl telling him she wishes she had one just like itÂ
- He almost cries but Jude saves the day
- âLet the boys have their tails,â she says, âMy little girl and I have matching ears.âÂ
- And itâs true. Jude and Cardanâs daughter has dull ears like a mortal
- But she also has vibrant, purple eyes so she isnât worried about not looking like a faerieÂ
- Cardan and Jude parent like they rule the kingdom: efficiently and kindly, but stern when needed
- Cardan is usually the first to get stern
- His kids know by now that whenever Dad looks at them in a certain way, they better shape up
- Like all kids, theyâre thoroughly disgusted by how in love their parents are
- Their daughter(s) think it's so romantic and wonderful but their son(s) always stick their fingers down their throat whenever they see Dad kiss Mamma
- Bedtime stories are very much a thing
- Cardan will make up a story and then recruit Jude to help him finish it and she has to pretend like she knows how it ends
- Neither of them knows how it ends
- Jude does the voices for all the girl characters and Cardan voices the men
- But because Cardan is literally making the story up as he goes, Jude has to improvise 100% of her lines
- They make it work
- Some of the stories told at bedtime are the best stories faeries had ever had the privilege of hearing
- Sometimes, though, they stick to more traditional stories and read from books
- Aliceâs Adventures in Wonderland is a unanimous favorite
- Cardan likes to carry his children on his shoulders or on his back
- Itâs just efficient
- Itâs not a strange sight to see the High King of Elfhame walking through the palace with a toddler in his arms, a two year old on his back, a four year old on his shoulders, and a set of twins running behind him
- I have no idea how many kids those two end up having. Theyâre unhinged and unpredictable
- But the kingdom adores the Greenbriar children
- All the kids are so well-mannered that itâs no trouble liking them or getting along with them
- Some of them are shyer than others so theyâre more likely to hide in Judeâs skirts during a party but the kingdom still gushes over them
- The kingdom also likes the change in pace with how many kids the King and Queen have ;)
- Children are a happy, happy thing and Jude is a mortal woman, so she gives the kingdom tons of reasons to be happy
- Itâs almost a little overwhelming both for Jude and the citizens
- The citizens donât know how to handle being this happy this often
- And Jude still finds it a little odd how strangers will be moved to tears over the fact that sheâs pregnant...again
- Cardan uses it to tease her because heâs fucking Cardan and why wouldnât he
- âItâs about time we give the kingdom another celebration, donât you think?â
- Cue Jude glaring at her husband and reminding him that the child she is currently breastfeeding is a mere five weeks old
- Cardan kisses the child and then his wife and says, âThatâs fair. Iâll give it another month.â
- Jude kicks him because her hands are busy, but sheâs laughing
My dear you have way too much time on your hands.
And considering we are no where near having kids, I really donât know.

AND I HAVE THOUGHTS PEOPLE!!!
First of all WHAT DID CARDAN DO!?!?!?!??! SERIOUSLY WHAT HAPPENED THAT WAS SO BAD THAT OAK THINKS THAT CARDAN WOULD ACTIVELY TRY TO KILL HIM!?!?! They were cool the last time we saw the so WTF!?!
Seriously this part got me so curious I won't be able to stop thinking about it for the next 3 months! Oak has so much hot family drama to spill!!
But moving on from that.
I love how we're finally exploring Oak's charming ability and how he starts doubting it himself if he really did subconsciously use them with Wren
And we got so many moments of Oak recalling his training with the court of shadows. He considers them all his friends and recalls those memories so fondly it was so sweet (he sounded more comfortable with them than when he recalled anything about Jude let alone Cardan apparently). That whole convo with the Ghost was especially adorable:
The Ghost/Garrett: How are your skills with the blade?
Oak: I'm eleven???
Also can we please talk about jealous Oak please! Like my boy, out of all the times and occasions! He's so desperate it's hilarious
Still in the OakWren train, this boy is so down bad it's pathetic. The way he waits for her even if it's just to command or scorn him, simply because he wishes to see her. Regretting every single thing he hid from and feeling like shit because he can't even apologise since she doesn't come see him. BRUTALLY ANNIHILATING that mechanical snake since it could have been going to poison Wren. Pleading to postpone his rescue just so he could talk to her.
Favorite part was when he recalled Wren's betrayed face after she found out the truth and going "Damn yeah I really do deserve to be in here locked up, still need to escape tho, but I deserve this."
Oh Greenbriar men, you and your love for evil women who you accidentally betrayed and kept you imprisoned. Alexa play Loverboy.
Loved that this entire paragraph (besides Cardan's vendetta against Oak WHICH IS KILLING ME) was just Oak going
Oak: Angry vengeful Jude? Yikes. Angry vengeful Wren? Yikes. Angry vengeful Jude and Wren against each other? We're doomed
And finally we at least now know where the ring from the cover came from!
Holly Black did say that an important element in the cover is how the ring is frozen in the brances, unmoving. I wonder if it's some kind of symbolism about Oak's inability to leave Weren, how he is trapped by her not only physically by the briddle, but emotionally too? That would be so cool
Tho this first chapter sneek peak gave me more questions than answers, I really enjoyed getting a feel of what the book would be like from Oak's pov (regretting, simping, scheeming and a whole lot of Keeping Up with the Greenbriar/Duartes). God I can't wait 3 more months I need this book in my hands now!!!

He's the most perfect Man, King, Husband, Brother-in-law, Uncle everrr
Since it's a book about Oak and Suren, and indeed it's a sequel, I suppose I should be paying attention to them, however, nevertheless, every time Cardan appeared or was mentioned, I couldn't help but think about how my boy went from the Cruel Prince to the damn badass king of Elfhame. Guys, Cardan practically owns anyone in conversation, knows the schemes alongside Jude, and on top of that, he's super powerful, a present husband, brother-in-law, and uncle. He's everything and then some. The way that Oak sees him aaaaaa.
I love Holly for giving us this development đ„čđ

The folk of the air
A few days ago I made a review of the three books of this series in Spanish , but I wanted to make a comment in English too. I wonât make another review because basically I would be translating what I said before, and right now I just what to share my opinion in a more casual way because seriously, I canât get the series off my mind.
The folk of the air caught me. I was so attached by it so quickly that Iâm still surprised, because it doesnât happen often. I just have to say that I fell in love with the whole story. I love how I was forced to put myself in the other charachters shoes to understand their behaviour. I love that all the characters have their bad and good things, just like in reality. I simply fell in love with Cardan Greenbriar, even though Iâm pretty sure everyone started hating him. But as the story develops, we get to know more about Cardan's past and feelings, and we get to understand why he is how he is. The same happens with characters like Madoc, who in my opinion, is not totally bad. We are forced to understand that in Faerie things arenât like in our world. The moral in Faerie is totally different from ours, so we are forced to at least try to understand Folk's behaviour by their nature. For example Madoc, who is a redcap which means he is blood thirsty by nature, so that can explain some of the decisions he makes. I think the best example of what Iâm trying to explain is Cardan. Cardan, who despite being born under the crown and being a prince, was neglected, mistreated and despised by everyone who was supposed to love him. We see how when he was a child, he craved and begged for his motherâs attention, who would only push him to the ground and let him be suckled by a cat so she could go to revels. He was so jealous of Jude because she, being the result of the treason by Eva, her mother, to Madoc, she was loved and never pushed aside by her foster father, while Cardan, even after Asha was sent to the tower of forgetting, was still being mistreated by his brother. I love the fact that Cardan slowly begins to feel, he stars caring about other person than himself, and I love that. Of course the other characters past and nature canât justify the bad things they make, but at least we can understand them, and try to sympathize with them.
I seriously recommend this series to everyone who loves fantasy stories. It has a clichĂ© that is handled so good itâs exquisite and tortuous at the same time.

I sometimes wish there was more good fantasy books that have adventures and exploring and like related to faeries but instead we get A court of thorns and roses copy. đđ i dont want characters calling their other s/o mates or..growling..furry shit
The cruel prince could never do that JUDE DUARTE MY BELOVED
đȘł
NO I AGREE!!! OH MY GOD. I HATE ACOTAR SO MUCH..... i found some pretty good seelie/unseelie books before, but their titles all escape me. my biggest gripe is that authors sacrifice worldbuilding for subpar romance. like no, i don't want 6000 sex scenes, i want actual depth in the storytelling and an interesting world. but the problem with the fantasy genre is that it's either romantasy or Lord of the rings. and i have nothing against lord of the rings, but when there are ten thousand books of the same type you start getting bored. it's why i love six of crows so much! it's not classic grand fantasy, but it's unique and good at what it does. bring back grand fantasy with less of a focus on romance....
i have an extreme love/hate relationship with the cruel prince. i HATE cardan greenbriar! i hate hate hate him so much. the political plot of the cruel prince series is good. but the romance ruined it for me! there was no development, at all. it ramped up from -200 to a hundred in two chapters. cardan was INSANELY bad to jude in the beginning, and his justification was HORRID. 'oh i loved her but i was mad at myself for that because i was also kinda jealous so me trying to drown her kill her and publicly humiliating her was all okay because i love her now' KILL YOURSELF CARDAN GREENBRIAR.
on the other hand, i read how the prince of elfhame became king or whatever the title of the spinoff book is and....
i can't say i like cardan. i still really hate him. but i understand his past. does it justify anything he did? NO. but, err, i have drawn a lot of cruel prince fanart.
all of cardan greenbriar.
cough cough cough.
love/hate, people. love/hate.
anyway sorry for rambling can you tell i really like reading and have strong opinions
OH OH OH AND I THINK OAK IS TEN MILLION TIMES BETTER LIKE I REALLY LIKE THE SIDE SERIES (?) BETWEEN OAK AND SOREN

Crashing
Fandom: Folk of the Air
Ship: Jurdan
Rating: T
Fluffy Angst
Little had changed since Judeâs ascension to the throne. As when she was Seneschal, she coordinated the kingdomâs affairs with unparalleled grace and tenacity.
Perhaps the greatest difference was the respect and admiration that shone in the eyes of her subjects and colleagues. Some entertained the sentiment freely while others offered their appreciation with reluctance, but even those that loathed to admit it, could not deny that their Queen was remarkable.
Oh, and of course, the revels.
As Seneschal, Jude could still make up excuses of work to avoid attending the unending festivities that were often separated by little free time. Cardan was never far from âa party mood,â as it was called in the human world. And when she was considered a mere accessory to the crown, she had no direct obligation to attend each meaningless celebration.
Now that she wore said crown, the lavish parties were considerably more difficult to avoid.
Jude still did not attend them all, nor did she attend them in their entirety. She would, though, make an appearance alongside her husband at the beginning and end of each.
It was a thrill like no other, walking to the dais boasting their thrones, her hand firmly in his, both draped in finery.
He would brush a kiss across her knuckles each time before they took their place together, and his voice would boom across the hall to begin the merriment.
For years, Jude had watched Cardanâs lithe form adorned in lush garments and glittering powders as he maneuvered through galas and feasts and festivities. And yet still, he managed to take her breath away each time.
First with his otherworldly beauty, for their was no other way to describe it. She hesitated to call it Fae beauty because he truly surpassed all the Fae she had seen. The slant of his high cheekbones accentuated by the faint shimmer of gold. The sensuously dark eyes rimmed with kohl that only served to increase their depth, through the contrast they provided against the white around his irises. When a sheen of intoxication covered them, they glimmered like the night sky. The wine he indulged in throughout only served to darken his sinful mouth, accentuating his lips against his pale skin. Unfortunately, Jude was acutely aware that she is not the only one who has noticed Cardanâs painful beauty.
Beyond this carefully crafted beauty, though, through this new lens placed upon their lives, Jude saw something else that set her stomach aflutter in ways she could not hope to explain. Her disinterest with the merriment gave her the opportunity to watch her husband with rapt interest. Observe in ways she had not let herself indulge before.
She watched Cardan charm their guests and dignitaries, smiling wide and tipping his head back in laughter at their stories. His lighthearted demeanor and mischief coaxed grins from even the most stubborn of their guests. Enough so that theyâd miss the coy turn to his lips, the sly gleam in his eyes that indicated he was there for more than celebration and mirth. He would masterfully put all around him a perfect ease and walk away having gleaned whatever political advantage he sought. Every. Time.
It fascinated Jude to no end. Her husband was cunning. And no one was the wiser.Â
The thought enticed a chuckle from her chest.
The sound seemed to catch Cardanâs attention. He turned his head toward her and gave a small smile as he started up the dais to her.
âWould you grace me with a dance, my queen,â he said, eyes shining. She smiled and took his outstretched hand.
His gaze never wavered from hers. Not when he maneuvered them through the crowds to the center of the room. Certainly not when he placed her hands on his shoulders and his own firmly on her waist. Absolutely not when his fingers pressed with careful deliberation against the small of her back to arch her towards him.
âYouâve danced with quite a many people tonight, my king.â Her voice was mostly teasing. Although, a seasoned ear â and his was most definitely seasoned when it came to Jude â would swear there was the faintest undertone of jealousy. Cardanâs lips twitched into a smile.
âI have only wanted a dance with one person all night, and I have her in my arms.â Jude rolled her eyes in attempted annoyance, but the barest pink on her cheek betrayed all.
He raised their joined hands to twirl her. If he deliberate cut the spin short so she would fall against his chest, neither of them mentioned it. The longer they danced, the more the world around them faded away. As it often did when they were together.Â
The King and Queen had a way of losing themselves in each other. The time, the location, the circumstance was of little import. The ever burning spark between them would flare into a wildfire that burned all else out of their consciousness.
Flint and tinder indeed.
Thatâs why both startled when a loud cough beside them brought them out of their reveries. Jude nearly jumped backward, she truly would have were it not for Cardanâs firm grasp on her. They turned to see The Bomb waiting with an amused smile.
âPardon the intrusion, lovebirds â I mean Your Highnesses,â she corrected with a giggle. âIf I may borrow the Queen for a moment?â
Cardan threw The Bomb an annoyed glance, as if to say Really? but it only served to fuel her laughter. Jude squeezed his hand apologetically before starting to pull away. He held on to her till the last second, reluctant to let go, desperate to maintain the physical connection between them.
âIâll see you in our chambers,â Jude whispered, pressing a soft kiss to his cheek before The Bomb pulled her away.
The Roach and The Ghost are waiting for them in the shadows of the exit arch. The Roach glances behind the two, suppressing a laugh at their High King who looks downright forlorn at the loss of his queen. What is the expression the mortals use? Whipped?
âWhatâs wrong?â Jude asked as they approached the spies. âIs there immediate danger?â
âNo immediate danger,â The Roach reassured, âA messenger just arrived from the Court of Teeth with a letter. Nothing too serious but it does require a prompt response. They would like to meet with you and the Cardan in one weekâs time regarding expanding and fortifying trade routes between the Court and Elfhame. Since it is a four day journey, we thought it best that we send the messenger with a response immediately to avoid rushed panic.â
Jude nodded, âThat would be wise. Take me to him.â
In nearly an hour, she had received the message, formulated the perfect response, sent the messenger on his way, and planned the critical details of the summit. The Roach shook his head in amazement, a small smile curled The Ghosts lips, and The Bomb just looked on in respect and adoration. Their Queen was frustratingly talented. When it came to everything except her own safety that is. Her lack of self-preservation was a source of anxiety for them all.
âWould you like an escort back to the revel?â The Ghost asked softly. Jude smiled and shook her head.
âNo, thank you, I think Iâll retire for the night. Enjoy your evening.â
They nodded and bid her good night as she started towards the royal chambers.
A deep breath left Judeâs chest as she closed the doors behind her. Her hands rose to her temples, fingers massaging the skin softly.
A brief moment passed until she felt a pair of arms encircle her waist. She didnât hesitate to melt into her husbandâs embrace, allowing his body hold up her own. Her hands covered his as he placed a soft kiss to the skin of her shoulder. Jude found herself thanking Tatterfell for choosing a sleeveless gown for the evening, held up by an intricately embroidered chord of fabric wrapping around her neck.
She tilted her head to look up at him. âYou returned from the revel quite early.â Her brow furrowed and she scanned his face for signs of exhaustion. âAre you tired?â He shook his head.Â
âMy heart was elsewhere.â
The phrase was simple, but the weight of his gaze made it anything but. The corners of Judeâs eyes softened.
âI believe I still owe you a dance, my king.â
Cardanâs eyes brightened. âI believe you do,â he took her hand, brushing a kiss across her knuckles, âmy queen.â
She turned in his arms to face him. His arm didnât move from her waist, simply shifted to better accommodate her.
âMusic?â
Cardan smiled and pulled her in closer. His cheek brushed Judeâs and his lips moved to her ear. He began to sing softly.
Judeâs eyes widened in amazement. His voice.
It was unlike anything she had heard before. Deep yet soft, like waves of velvet washing over her. Something in her body thrummed at the sound.
Resonance, was the term that came to mind. It was as if his voice was a frequency her very soul was tuned to. A sound made just for her.
Her forehead fell forward to rest on Cardanâs shoulder. She heard the smile in his voice as he swayed their joined form gently around their chambers. Jude felt the music vibrate through his body against her own.
âYou have a beautiful voice,â she whispered against his shoulder.Â
âThank you, my love.â He pressed a kiss to her temple.
âWhat song is it?â
âItâs an old Fae ballad, a tale of two lovers whose very natures pitted them against one another.â Cardan spoke low in her ear. Even in the privacy of their chambers, it seemed as though he was hiding the words from the rest of the world, speaking only to her heart. âJust as the lovers constantly fought with each other, their hearts fought them. Their souls were made for one another, yearning to be united. Despite the world of circumstances separating them.â
There was a heavy silence. âI thought of it often in your absence,â he admitted.
Which one? Jude wanted to ask. During her exile? When she was taken by the Undersea? She pulled back to search his eyes. Or perhaps, even in their childhood? When they claimed to feel nothing but hatred for each other.
She rose on her toes to press her lips to his. A silent thank you for his trust, his admission. He kissed her back with more fervor than she expected. Jude braced a hand against his neck, fingers creeping into his dark curls just briefly while his lips moved against hers. Cardan pulled back slightly, breaths coming heavy as he rested his forehead against hers. His brows were furrowed, lines of tension contouring his face. Like he was reliving the pain of losing her all over again. Her fingers traced his face, smoothing the lines away.
âEvery time I saw you, there was a fire that lit my veins,â she says into the space between them. âAs you said, I always thought it was hatred.â Jude paused. âBut I couldnât, for the life of me, figure out why that fire burned so much brighter when I saw another girl in your arms.â His eyes snapped open at that, lips parting in slight awe. The corners of Judeâs mouth twitched. Success, she thought as she saw the pain slowly melt off his face as mirth creeped in.
âMy queen,â Cardan began, his eyes sparked anew, âwere you perhaps, jealous?â
âWere might not be the right term, are is more appropriate.â Jude scowled slightly. Her fingers stroked the back of his neck absentmindedly. âI still donât like all the women that try to weasel themselves closer to you, with no regard for your wifeâs presence.â She felt a tremor run up his spine at the word. Wife.
Jude paused, hesitating before reminding herself of Cardanâs admission to her. One piece at a time.
âTheyâre all quite beautiful too,â she muttered under her breath, averting her eyes.
Cardan looked at her as if he didnât quite hear her correctly.
âMy love, you canât possibly be insecure about your appearance?â
âI mean, Iâm not blessed with their Fae beauty or anything.â Truth be told, Jude had never cared about her appearance in front of the Folk. Her battle physique and training were most important to her, they still are. But she would be lying if she said she didnât occasionally reflect on the differences between her and the beauty of the women that threw themselves at Cardan.
âJude, look at me please, love.â
When she did, her breath hitched at the intensity of his gaze. âI understand insecurities are normal, everyone has them. Gods know I have more than most. But you have absolutely nothing to concern yourself with.â His hand tightened on her waist, pulling her closer. âYou are without a doubt the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. No one else has the power to take my breath away with a single look. To make my heart race with a single touch. To undo me with a single kiss. You have ruled my heart, my mind, my very soul long before any of those women you speak of.â
Judeâs breath froze in her lungs. She knew Cardan loves her. He knew she loves him. They had whispered the words against each otherâs lips and skin in dark nights of their chambers, spoken them through their eyes when their gazes locked across the throne room, laughed them to the wind as they danced in the royal gardens (at Cardanâs request). Yet the raw emotion in his words right then, the surety in his voice, nearly cut her open. She wanted to return the sentiment, to tell him what he means to her, but the words froze in her throat. A flash of hatred coursed through Jude at that. Hatred directed at no one but herself. For still freezing when it comes to laying her heart bare before himïżŒïżŒïżŒïżŒïżŒïżŒ, the one person she trusts. The one person who deserved her vulnerability. Instead, like a coward, she caught onto his earlier words.Â
Jude snorted. âPlease, you donât know what the word insecurity means when it comes to looks.â She poked at his high cheekbones jokingly, before tracing her finger down his sharp jaw. âYouâve never looked less than perfect a day in your life.â
Cardanâs hand rose to cover hers. His gaze pinned her in place. âAnd yet when I saw true contempt in your eyes, the day you returned to Elfhame, I felt uglier than I ever have in all my days.â He flashed back to the hate she directed at him. It felt like a steel net, weighing him down, closing his airways. He could hardly breathe under the weight.Â
She brushed her thumb over his cheek.
Tears in his eyes were the last straw. Jude searched his face, her thoughts racing. No more, she decided. No more hiding. Cardan deserves better. He deserves more. He deserves vulnerability and to be loved freely. He deserves no more armor. Jude steeled her heart and something shifted in her eyes.
âItâs interesting that you saw contempt,â she murmured. âConsidering I couldnât bring myself to be angry with you the way I wished to.â Cardanâs eyes widened in surprise. The corner of her lips twitched. âUnfortunately, hating you has never been easy.â Jude stroked his cheek again. âThere are days I question whether I could truly manage it at all.â
Thereâs a lightness in her eyes heâs unaccustomed to. No. Not a lightness, but rather the absence of weight. Jude does not often voice her feelings, but when she does, there is hesitance. Fear and reluctance swirl in her heart and heavy her tongue. The words she normally would have had to force out, flow today from her lips as naturally as water. Her lips ticked upwards, settling into the ghost of a smile.
Her arm wound tighter around his neck, decreasing the distance between them, while her other hand remained pressed between his hand and his cheek. His own arm tightened around her waist, pulling her closer still. Her mouth rose to his, just a hairsbreadth from touching it.
âDid you ever truly hate me,â she whispered.
âI believed I did.â Cardanâs gaze never wavered from hers. âI convinced myself the intense emotion that clouded my every thought was hate, because it seemed like the only acceptable answer. I tried to nurture those thoughts further towards darkness and hatred. At least that I understood.â His temple pressed against hers and a breathy chuckle escaped his chest. âWhat a fool I was.â
Jude paused a moment before asking another question.
âCan you tell when I lie?â
Startled again, Cardan thought. He contemplated his answer. âI believe so.â
âHow do you know?â
âI donât think I can put it into words,â he said. âTruthfully, I donât think I myself understand how I know. Perhaps it is a product of watching you with such scrutiny all these years. There are parts of you I find myself so attuned to that it surprises me. Very little of myself is conscious when it comes to you, my sweet nemesis.â His thumb brushed back and forth over the skin exposed by a cut of her gown at the waist. The ministration in conjunction with his smooth voice is mesmerizing. She finds herself losing awareness of everything but him. âYour eyes usually give me my answer. As you speak, whenever I look in your eyes,â he moves her hand from his cheek to his heart. âsomething in here just knows whether you are telling the truth.â
She locked her gaze with his now.
âI love you.â
His breath froze in his throat. And he knew, something deep in his heart knew, that itâs true. He returned her honesty with a kiss. Whispering his greatest secret against her lips.
âI love you, my dearest Jude.â

Can i ask for Jurdan songfic based on 'Jealous' by Nick Jonas? Thank you!
Thank you for the request! I wasn't sure what a songfic exactly is (I'm still new to tumblr, sorry!) so I just wrote this on assumption but if it means any different, please do tell me!
Jealous Cardan
Pairing: Jude X Cardan
Genre: Fluff.
Summary: Jude and Cardan are married in secret but Cardan can't find it in him to announce it to the court until he gets jealous and declares her his wife at the worst time possible.
Cardan did not know why but he found himself standing outside Jude's chambers after the revel ended.
He knew he should not be here. Jude would definitely worry what everyone would think of the High King entering his seneschal's chambers after the revel ended, drunk and exhausted. She was always careful, too careful where the secret of their marriage was concerned. But his queen had not attended the revel and he would not sleep well until he knew Jude was fine. Steeling his breath, Cardan pushed the bronze doors open.
He froze. Jude was not inside.
There was but one logical solution to where Jude could be at this hour of the night. Cardan tried to convince himself that Jude was perhaps visiting her sisters but he knew things were still fraught between her and Taryn and Jude had recently visited the mortal world to meet with Vivienne and Oak.
The High King decided to await his wife's return here, plopping down on Jude's bed. Her room was untidier than any in the whole palace, papers scattered everywhere and furniture covered in dust. Knowing Jude, she probably did not trust any of the servants to enter her private chambers and had been putting it off purposefully. Cardan did not know when he fell asleep but by the time he woke up, Jude was sitting on her desk, working.
He looked up and yawned, "Jude dear, do you never rest?"
She rolled his eyes at him from where she sat, then went back to reading with a bitter smile on her face. "Someone has to run this kingdom. Since you refuse to help, it has to be me."
He had once sworn to make ruling hell for her, had sworn that day when she'd tricked him into becoming high king that he would not make these easy on her but Cardan felt guilty now.
"Where were you last night, my queen?"
A blush rose to Jude's cheeks but she cleared her throat. She said, "I did not realise I had to ask for your permission to leave."
Cardan pressed his lips into a thin line, trying not to show the annoyance on his face. When the High King and his seneschal had decided to do something about the energy sparking between them, had kissed each other until dawn and promised to be each other's companions during the dark hours of the nights, when he had made her his Queen and his wife behind the closed doors of their chambers, he had recognised as her as his equal. She was not obligated to ask him for anything but he had hoped that their marriage would at least entitle him to ask about her whereabouts.
Especially when she refused to divulge information.
Cardan shrugged, about to leave when a messenger entered. His eyes flitted towards the High King on the bed, in his dishevelled state, eyes widening in shock before he trained his face into a neutral expression and said to Jude, "Lord Garett kindly requests you to join him in his private lodgings. He sent a carriage."
Cardan scoffed. The young, untested lord from one of the lower courts had presumed Jude would accept the invitation and had even sent her a carriage, as if Jude did not prefer to ride a horse or was unable to. He waited for her to dismiss the invitation, to decline it as she would but instead, Jude nodded, "I will join him soon."
Cardan was seething with rage by the time he retired to his own chambers. He did not care what Jude did with her time, who she spent it with. Their marriage was purely political, even if they shared a bed occassionally. His High Queen worked so hard all day, if there was anyone who deserved to have fun.
And yet.
Cardan went to the revels early that night, tried to drown his feelings in the sweetest of wines but to no avail. Thoughts of Jude danced around his head incessantly, growing worse when he watched her join the revel too. With her arm looped around some other faerie's, a smile on her lips. She never smiled around Cardan like that.
They both made their way towards the dais, paying their respects to their High King before they were off dancing. Cardan demanded for his goblet to be refilled, eyes trained on them.
Was that where she had gone off to last night, the thought of whom she had blushed at?
Before he could think more of it, Cardan was rising from his dais and making his way towards the area where the two of them danced, pulling Jude away from him. With the enchanted music, he could have her dancing for as long as he wanted unless someone interrupted.
Cardan said, "Jude, are you drunk?"
"No," she said, but he had already seen it in the clarity of her brown eyes. Jude did not have a high tolerance. If she was drunk, he would have known.
Lord Garett cleared his throat and Cardan had the urge to bash his head against the wall of the chamber they were in, politics be damned. It was Jude's firm touch on his arm that made him pull back and see the side of reason, the consequences of an undiplomatic fight without cause. He backed off, accpeting another courtier's offer to dance as they wove circles around other faeries.
Cardan was looking at Jude but her eyes were fixed on Garett's face. He watched as the Lord pulled her closer, the hand on her back drifting low enough that Jude winced. It was a fleeting expression, gone as fast as it had come but it was enough for Cardan to intervene. He did not know why Jude was letting him take advantage of her but he would not allow his seneschal to be touched without her permission when she was visibly uncomfortable.
"Unhand her now," the High King demanded.
Garett raised an eyebrow, taking a step back from her. Jude was gaping as she hissed, "Cardan, do not do this."
Jude's voice steadied Cardan even though his wife looked almost as angry as the High King himself, if not more. And unfortunately for Cardan, her anger was always more disastrous than Cardan's. He spared a glance at his queen and might have backed off at the look he found there, had Garett not turned to Jude and pressed a hand against her cheek. He said, "I will be taking the High King's leave now. I hope you would grace me with your presence tomorrow." Jude stiffened at the touch but nodded.
Cardan saw red. Before he knew what was happening, his fist collided with Garett's jaw, knuckles hurting at the impact. "You will not touch my wife again," He roared.
The whole throne room quieted down and Jude looked like a dear caught in the headlights. Cardan knew she had always wanted to be recognised as his queen in front of the court, had wanted them to stop hiding the marriage between them but Cardan had convinced her the secrecy was for the best for now because their allies might be hesitant in throwing their support behind the High King. They needed their allies now more than ever. That was only part of the reason though. He had wanted to give her a proper coronation, to throw a grand revel in the name of his queen, not blurt them out at a revel like this.
He knew Jude worried this was some trick, that he would find a loophole and back down but all the regret vanished from his face when he saw the subtle smile on her face, the utter shock that he had told everyone, whatever the situation.
Garrett blinked in shock. "Is that true?"
"I will take my leave of you now and explain things later, Lord Garrett," Jude told him, turning towards her husband.
She did not know what to do. Cardan had not planned to get the announcement out this way but now that it was out, he supposed there was only one thing left to do. So he took his wife to the dais, called for the crown he had ordered from a skilled mastersmith days ago for Jude's coronation and though she would have an official ceremony, he lifted his wife's chin, pressed a soft kiss to her lips and announced, "Jude Duarte Greenbriar, the High Queen of Elfhame."
One pointed look from Cardan and every lord and lady and courtier bowed to their Queen. The revel was extended, more drinks and food brought out. Faeries danced until dawn had set and it was only when the last of musicians and guests and courtiers had left, guards dispersed that Cardan turned to Jude, uncertain.
Before he could even get a word in, Jude had captured her lips in his. Then she whispered, "I thought you were looking for ways out of arrangement. I thought you might betray me again."
"Now you know," Cardan murmured to his wife, his queen, his world. "I love you."
Jude smiled, bright and wideâit was the kind of smile she rarely ever showed. And it may have been a mistake, an unplanned announcement at an inconvenient time but if it made Jude so happy, Cardan found it hard to complain about anything else.

I know I say this after every fanfiction but I posted this one in a hurry for some reason. I had other plans for it in the start, then I headed another way so now it came out a whole different way so I'm sorry, I promise I'm usually better than this! I think.

Jealous Intentions part 1
A Jude & Dain AU where Dain, who had never been murdered and is also unable to be crowned High King, is jealous of Jude and Cardan's chemistry because he lusts for Jude.
Fic requested by @imagaintionlover1234, I wrote this whilst severely sleep deprived and looking after my poorly bun. I hope I managed to write up your request to your liking!! Also, this is only my second ever fic, so if anyone has constructive criticism I would highly appreciate it!
Word count: 778
Rating: Mature, due to a couple of suggestive sentences
Will be crossposted to my AO3, LetMeLiveInElfhame
Fic below!!
Dain Greenbriar had once admired the mortal girl's will to find her place amongst the fae. Unlike her peculiar twin, her mirror, her double, she did not want to marry to be accepted. No, she wanted to fight. Dain had given her an opportunity as a spy in his Court of Shadows, an opportunity to put her ability to lie to use. She was good at it, until she threw it in his face.
Jude. Jude Duarte, no, Greenbriar. Jude Greenbriar. She had gotten herself further in life than she had planned. Not only had she married his youngest brother Cardan, the prince who was weak, cruel, foolish and drunken, but she had also become High Queen. Dain still felt the humiliation of the Blood Crown rejecting him as High King, still felt the confusion of how it could be the weakest of Eldred's six children whom the land accepted as ruler. Cardan, who was prophecised to be the destruction of the crown and the ruination of the throne. Cardan, who stole Jude from him. How could he have possibly been the most suitable ruler? How could the Blood Crown have rejected Dain and his 4 other capable siblings, leaving a temporary burn where it had been placed on each brow, and yet choose the least capable child of Eldred? It should have been Dain.
He secretly watched as Cardan gently pressed Jude against a wall and kissed her. She deepened the kiss, until Cardan pulled away slightly to press kisses on her neck just below her rounded ear. The expression on Jude's face was one that Dain had imagined he would be the cause of. He had imagined many lustful things about Jude; his body pressed against hers, the fullness of her breasts in his hands, the way his name would sound as a whimper coming from her lips. And yet it was Cardan who gets to experience it all.
The rejected heir felt the spark of jealousy deep within. He could not understand what Jude saw in Cardan. He had done nothing but bully and torment her during their time at school, and yet when Cardan offered for her to marry him and become High Queen rather than just a servant, she accepted. It didnât make any sense. Dain knew Cardan had some form of romantic interest in Jude, but he thought Jude had hated Cardan and would have done anything to be rid of him in her life. Unless it had all been a lie from her. Still, Dain had been the one to have given her an opportunity that clearly led her to great things. He had even been the one to have given her a form of protection against being glamoured by placing the geas on her. And despite not being a spy for him anymore, the geas was still in affect to help keep her safe. What more could she possibly want from him?
He wanted Jude. He still wants her, despite her being married to his brother. He isn't the only one who wants her either, he knows that. There were plenty of fae who wished to have her, to have a taste of such a sweet mortal body. The fact that she is married and the High Queen cannot stop lustful thoughts. Dain often wondered if he could do what he did with Liriope - he had got her into his bed despite her being his father's consort. The matter of her pregnancy and death induced by poison was a small thing; he would just make sure he didn't make the same mistake with Jude. After all, if something were to happen to Cardan then there would still be a chance for Dain to be accepted as ruler by the Blood Crown.
Nursing a bottle of his favourite wine, he started to formulate a plan on how to get Jude to be his lover. He wanted a share in those soft, unguarded smiles, her captivating lies, her breathy moans. And then it clicked. 'If something were to happen to Cardan'... He would just have Cardan killed to quell the jealousy within him, to take Jude as his own. Of course, he could not commit the murder himself, it would just lead to the Blood Crown rejecting him again, but he could get one of his spies to commit the murder for him. It wouldn't be the first time. And if that wouldnât be enough to make Jude his, he could just use his power over the geas he placed on her to command her to be his. His lips curved into a malicious smile.
"Sweet, sweet Jude, you will be mineâŠâ
