Why Is the Doctor Crying This Time? -- A brief analysis of Doctor Who Special #5: 'Joy To The World'
I have seen a few people confused about how emotional the Doctor became at the death of the Silurian hotel manager. Here's my take/understanding:
The pain he feels when unable to save someone is a fundamental aspect of the Doctor's character, in my opinion. He has a deep love and appreciation for all things, especially living things. He's seen so many innocent creatures lose their lives, especially due to the greed of others, and said others' complete disregard for lives outside of their own. He may pretend to be okay, or he may compartmentalize and not allow himself to process until later, but it will never not completely devastate him to see that happen, especially when it's happening right in front of him, and there's nothing he can do to help.
Just like Joy's mum died of COVID, completely alone in the hospital, while the Tories who made the social distancing rules were out having wine parties at the same time during lockdown, Villengard let an unknown number of hosts die for the briefcase and had no regard for the world-ending event they knew they'd cause with the detonation of the star, simply because they knew it would give them unlimited power and bring them business.
One could even argue that it's sort of Biblical, especially if you want to make that Jesus & the Star bit at the end connect some more; in the Bible, Jesus died as a sacrifice for the salvation of all, and in Doctor Who, so did Joy. They were both kind, despite often being filled with anger and/or fear. They both died at the hands of rich & powerful people with little care for the lives of others, and they both they rose ("the flesh shall rise") again, and in doing so, they saved all the citizens of Earth.
In shows like Dr. Who, I've found that sometimes the metaphors for fighting against fascism and fighting for your fellow man are seemingly never-ending. In my perspective, this special is no exception, and all the storylines can be joined together to come to the same general conclusion.
The End (at least, for now)
Merry Christmas to all who celebrate! ❤️🎄
*Note: This post is not a form of sub-tweet (sub-...blog?) or an attempt to start something; rather, it is simply a collection of my thoughts. While I will nearly always accept constructive criticism and discussion, I will not accept cruelty or rudeness. I hope you enjoy this analysis, but if you don't, and if you have nothing nice to say about it, I implore you not to say anything at all, and please just scroll away. You can DM your friends about how crazy I am, but you don't have to tell me, I know it already. Thank you ❤️

hadestown hadestown hadestown omg omg omg (i'll mention when there will be spoilers - very much recommend seeing it) went to see this for my bday (my bday was yesterday but whatever) and ive never really been into musical theatre but WOW do i see why people like it now
the set design, costumes, story but most of all the MUSIC GODDAMN was so fucking good, the singing was amazing (madeline charlemange - played eurydice - her voice was so amazing, the vibrato was on point and her growls slayed, they were all amazing tho) a lot of the songs were jazz inspired but one was wild west themed and some of them had really cool extended techniques (especially some funky shit on the violin, it was so cool) and one of the songs had a call and response but the response kept getting longer (ritornello?) i love that one (why we build the wall)
SPOLIERS AHEAD DONT READ ANYMORE IF YOU DONT WANT SPOILERS (go watch it its amazing) ok so hades was the embodiment of capitalism and persephone communism (hear me out) hades was forcing these people to work (mining, building the wall - culminates in that song i mentioned) and later on theres a workers revolution when orpheus convinces them the world doesnt have to be like that, kinda like russia in 1917 and whats gonna happen soon in the uk (i feel like at one point orpheus was adressing the audience when he was talking about this) they talk about building a wall to keep them free (keeping out the poverty) but in reality how does a wall keep you free?? it doesnt, it was hades that brainwashed them to think that and they are still under the shackles of capitalism (or something) until orpheus shows them the light and starts the workers revolution
i could probably ramble about this for hours but i'll spare you, if anyone read this far you slay hope you have / had an amazing day and thank you for reading my rambles, i hope they were coherent
tube post coming soon (tomorrow if i remember)
catch ya later <3

Anyway the performing arts, and arts in general, are actually so, so important and worth putting time and resources into.
Something being fun, beautiful, compelling, etc. is actually more than enough reason to justify its existence, and everyone deserves access to opportunities to explore the artistic endeavors that resonate with them.

We had a guest from abroad, and as we were walking we showed him the theatre and he assumed it no longer worked. When we said it works, he assumed it just plays movies, not stage plays.
So here's a poll!
#p: poll#p: mine#to be clear I am talking about STAGE theatres not movie theatres#your stage play theatre can screen movies sometimes or be converted to a movie theatre i guess#but the main element here is building meants for an audience and a stage with actors on it#and if your CITY doesn't have theatres u can answer however u wish#it's a part of your country so it's fair to answer however u feel is true#though i would personally answer based on ur experiences and those of ppl u know#(e.g. if u live in a small city; how likely is it that those living in a big city or capital attend? what about friends/relatives u have?)

I'm still reeling from and thinking so hard about the “You can do things without me! …You’re so good at it” from Chess to Kate because on one hand I can assume what it means but also what does that mean???!?
#kate clearly doesn't want chess to leave and has her capital i Issues with that#but the idea she's so strikingly independent other times makes sense given her nature but also?? contrasts everything we see in the show#like kate is very much independent in the second act but with chess as well? it's hard to imagine#i love my theatre appreciation class it means i can think more about scripts. unfortunately none of them are watt but whatever whatever#i'm just like this normally anyways#we are the tigers#kate we are the tigers#chess we are the tigers#no one talks about this and it's probably because they're normal and i look into things too hard that may or may not mean anything LOL

The year is 2026, and movie theatres are charging you a subscription to view movies without ads during the runtime
~
The year is 2026, and movie theatres are charging you $2.50 to continue watching every 10 mins of runtime (they got like a vr headset or something now for personal viewing in the theatre. No more big screen)
~
The year is 2026 and movie theatres are under fire for their deadly headset viewing devices.

a finnish youtuber i was a huge fan of at 14 sat in front of me at the cinema when i saw the substance this week, and this experience cemented my belief that influencers are the most insufferable people on earth and they do Not know how to act in public spaces. like yeah this is not news but fucking christ i had been spared irl before this
#taking pictures with flash. during trailers. multiple times#speaking on the phone loudly right before the movie started. like during the studio/producer credits#laughing and reacting to the film loud as fuck#(also LAUGHING during the substance????? hello????)#also like#i know its not forbidden to chat during trailers but doing that shit LOUD is a capital crime to me#shut the fuck UP#also audibly reacting to the film in theatres isnt standard or normalized in finland#laughing or gasping is normal but verbalizing ur thoughts or Cackling at everything? shut up#there are other people here. be mindful
