keep the change is genuinely so shit like the reason max improves is bc david improved. its bc david changed and put campbell to the side in order to give max the opportunity to have a better time at camp, to build a support system for him and give him the time and patience to become better. he gave him room to change. that's why they rub off on each other, because they help each other become better.
"max got better bc david rubbed off on him and david got worse bc max rubbed off on him" implying that max is somehow like?? "corrupting" david?? and this is in season 4 after parents day established that max's behaviour stems from literal abuse and neglect? because hes a kid and david is the adult with the choice to either ignore that or actually step up to help him? fucking yikes of an episode

Reblogging for obvious reasons because I'm love them 💕❤️🖤 BUT it bugs me a little bit because 3-4 out of the 6 are Corvus species (depending on if you're still saying that about jackdaws) and yes it is the largest genus in the family and also my favorite. BUT there's still a little under 100 other species in the family that rarely get any recognition. Not dunking on black feathers at all but there are so many colorful, beautiful jays (including one literally called the beautiful jay) and magpies and treepies and various other lesser-known beasts in the Corvid family, so it makes me a tiny bit sad that true crows are the only ones in the spotlight

"TRACES OF CUMBERLAND BANDITS." The Inland Sentinel (Kamloops). July 10, 1913. Page 7. --- Nanaimo, July 9 - After holding up the Chinese cook at Moore & Pethick's camp on Saturday night and getting a supply of food at the point of the gun, the two men who last week robbed the Union Bank messengers near Cumberland threw down between $13 and $14 on the cook's' bed with the words "Now take that and be quiet about this or we'll attend to your case later." Then they disappeared in the darkness and no trace has since been found of them.
The woods around Cumberland and Union Bay are full of police who were out all night on Saturday and Sunday looking for the hold-up men. It was at first thought that they had escaped from the spit near Union Bay to Denman Island in a boat, but it was made quite evident later that they were in hiding in the hills back from Union Bay.
It was about midnight when they were at Moore & Pethick's camp. The Chinese was frightened almost out of his wits, but at sight of the guns in the hands of the two Swedes, as they are thought to be, he got food for them quickly enough. They took away a plentiful supply after stopping long enough to eat: The police have the money the men left, and it is declared that they are certain the silver is part of the $2500, taken from the bank clerks near the Trent bridge on Friday afternoon.
The Chinese told the police that the two men had been at the camp twice before last week and had forced him to give them food. This was before the hold-up of the bank clerks, however, and it was not thought that they would come back after that for fear of capture.
The whole Cumberland and Union Bay neighborhood has been aroused and a determined effort is being made to scour the district. It is realized, however, that it will be a difficult task to catch the desperadoes if they keep to the heavily-wooded hills.

Other emperors in Chinese history: In order to prevent my tomb from being robbed, I’m going to build it on a remote mountain, hide it in a vast underground palace, and set a bunch of booby traps
The controversial and self aware emperors: I will do all of the above and hide the location of my tomb so my enemies cannot find it and desecrate it after my death
Liu Bei, Emperor of Shu: My tomb is in a royal temple right smack in the middle of my country’s capital, in the busiest area of the city. I am buried in a mound with my belongings, above ground.
Liu Bei’s son: I’m going to put Zhuge Liang’s temple right across the street from my father’s temple and grave
A governor of Sichuan, a few hundred years later: Zhuge Liang’s temple is much more popular among the everyday folk than the royal temple across the street. In order to uphold royal honor, let’s combine the two temples so that people have to pay their respects to the late emperor when they want to pray at Zhuge Liang’s shrine!
The people of Sichuan: Okay, we’ll refer to the combined temple as Zhuge Liang’s temple because we like him more, even though it’s technically also Liu Bei’s grave
Grave robbers, when they find the graves of other emperors: This grave is in the middle of nowhere, the closest village is a few days walk, and nobody even remembers where the grave is anymore so it should be safe for us to camp out here for a couple days, locate an entrance to the grave, and dig!
Grave robbers, when someone suggests robbing Liu Bei’s tomb: Everybody knows his tomb is in Zhuge Liang’s temple, which is one of the most popular temples in the province. The temple is in the busiest and thus one of the most closely policed districts in the city, surrounded by restaurants, markets, and residential homes. This is the temple where the city people come to pray for good luck and hold their annual festivals. I don’t think we could get away with camping out and digging here in the middle of the city.
And because for the last ~1800 years the city remained densely inhabited and the temple popular among the city folk and visitors alike, Liu Bei’s grave became the only royal grave from the three kingdom’s period that remained undisturbed by robbers.

Saw a musical play that featured this scene today. Let me tell you, I was enthralled.
(It was a production of The Snow Queen by the Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh. Photo is from the production company.)

Camp Robber
A camp robber I found on my trip up Coyote Creek. While I was sitting and eating lunch in a meadow, in they came but did not give me any shots. As soon as I packed up and started to leave, they started posing. I have been using a BlackRapid RS-4 camera strap for a while now, so I was able to get some shots of them.

I took his ashes to the foot of Moose Mountain, and sat on the ridge afterwards with an empty box in my lap. And then there were Whiskey Jacks. They dropped out of the trees like little grey ghosts, old friends, here to sit awhile and chat. Christmas Day 2022
