Brazil's Lula taps 16 ministers ahead of inauguration

Brazil's president-elect, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, appointed 16 ministers on Thursday, tapping two members of his party who oversaw states in Brazil's northeast to run the country's education and welfare systems.

Lula is set to take office in a little over a week and still has roughly a dozen nominations to make.

Camilo Santana, a former governor of the Ceara state, will preside over the education ministry. Meanwhile, Piaui's former governor, Wellington Dias, will be Brazil's social development minister. They have two of the largest ministerial budgets, with the latter overseeing the government's massive welfare spending.

Lula's health minister will be Nísia Trinidade, who throughout the COVID-19 pandemic has led the government's Fiocruz health research institute, which also produces vaccines.

Penúltima jornada, con la tercera dorada para Noah Lyles

Los equipos de Estados Unidos dominaron los relevos 4x100, en la penúltima jornada del Campeonato Mundial de Atletismo en Budapest, este sábado 26 de agosto. Y de ese modo, Noah Lyles consiguió el “triplete dorado” de la velocidad (100-200-relevos), algo que no sucedía desde la presencia del jamaiquino Usain Bolt. Este lo logró por última ve zen Beijing 2015. Nombres que vienen brillando en lo más alto del atletismo mundial como la keniata Faith Kipyegon -en su temporada de gracia- y el sueco Armand Duplantis también figuraron entre los campeones de este sábado. Y en el Decathlon, el canadiense Pierce LePage consiguió su primer título mundial, aventajando en gran duelo a su compatriota y campeón olímpico Damian Warner. LePage había sido subcampeón mundial en la temporada pasada en Oregón. Ahora sumó 8.909 puntos, delante de Warner (8.804) y bronce para Lindon Victor,de Grenada, con 8.756. Luego se ubicaron el estadounidense Christopher Nilsen -ex subcampeón- con 5.95 y el francés Thibaut Collet, quinto con 5.90. Duplantis posee el récord mundial con 6.22 (febrero en Clermond-Ferrand, indoors) y ahora intentó los 6.23, aunque sin éxito. El año pasado había triunfado en Eugene con 6.21. Este sábado en Budapest pasó en primer intento y con total seguridad sus alturas de 5.55, 5.85, 5.95, 6.00, 6.05 y 6.10.   El prodigio sueco también fue campeón olímpico en Tokio y además, campeón mundial indoor en Belgrado 2022, además de acumular otros dos títulos europeos.
