100% have been perusing your climate change masterpost, and understand you're probably swamped so feel free to delete of course. But if you can find the time, is there any kind of hope to give in fighting climate change now? Can we save ourselves against the oncoming steamroll?
You hang in there too. Thanks for finding the hope among everything else. It feels so bad rn but I have to believe it can change. I hope it can.
Yeah actually I do think there is hope.
Things are going to get rough. Things are going to get worse before they get better, both for the climate and for people living in the US (and for people living in lots and lots of other countries that will be affected by the US election results/the ways the climate will worsen as aa result).
I haven't posted about this yet because I didn't want it to come to this, but now that it has, here's something that people have been quietly saying/research has been showing for months:

Renewables, especially solar, are just too powerful to be stopped. They just too much cheaper and too much better, and that's only going to become more true, not less.
Also, I think (and hope) it's actually inevitable that at some point, we'll get to net negative carbon emissions. I think it's like solar: the technology, cost, and planet all make it feel like an inevitable technological trajectory, the same way solar tech is on an exponential trajectory. (IF WE WORK FOR IT, OBVIOUSLY, but also so, so many people ARE working for it, have dedicated their lives to working for it)
I sure fucking hope that's the case, anyway.
(You can find my masterpost on going net negative on what that actually means here)
It is gonna happen more slowly and shittily than I hoped, but I do think it's going to happen.
And if we can get to net negative emissions in time to save ourselves (which I think we will, the rates of advancement in many of these areas are very impressive), then we'll be able to slowly start to undo and heal lot of the damage.

Error prolly waits a week after Valentine's day so he can get the chocolate bundles on discount.
He goes to the stores to check prices before Valentine's because he HATES how crowded it gets nearing the day.
He computes how much he can save when he buys in bulk when he does go and buy em.
And the cashiers and store clerks swooning over him cuz they think he looks so handsome but also sad and jelly cuz hes probably choosing which chocolate to buy for his "honey"
but really hes planning to buy em all for himself haha

HP-01 (1977)
Hewlett-Packard
The Hewlett-Packard HP-01 is a calculator watch. It was designed and manufactured by Hewlett-Packard.
The HP-01's digital display used 7 light-emitting diodes (LEDs)/digit in a 7-digit + decimal point arrangement. Introduced in 1977, at the height of the LED watch craze, it had five models: two gold-filled and three stainless.
Prices ranged from $450 & $550 for the low-end steel or gold to $850 (the equivalent of $2200 to $4200 in 2023 dollars).
HP also sold a battery replacement kit that allowed customers to change the batteries themselves. The watch uses two batteries for the display and one for the processor IC. It also comes with a ballpoint pen with a stylus on the rear end. Most of the 28 buttons on the HP-01 are recessed and designed to be depressed with a stylus stored in the band.
The production was stopped by the end of 1979.

speaking of having timestamps:
the readmore of that last post took me an a hour and a half to make.
That may be SLIGHTLY too much effort to put into tumblr posts, especially when that tumblr post is simply a JOKE ABOUT STARS WARS!
Deer future foone: Please do not do this again. You could have gone to sleep an hour and a half ago! You're tired! There will always be a star wars to make jokes about tomorrow! Love, past (nee current) Foone B¹ Turing

Math
Vox: Did you know that the distance between Seattle and Austin is 34,095,562 grilled cheese sandwiches? Val: I did not. Vox: I did the math in my head just now. Val: That's fantastic. 34 million grilled cheese sandwiches, wow. How many loaves of bread is that? Vox: 68,191,124. Wait, loaves or pieces? Val: Loaves. Vox: Hold on. *recalculating* Vox: 3,409,556.2 loaves. If the loaves had 20 slices.
