Say what you will about Criss Angel's tricks on his show and how obviously paid some of these actors are, the show was entertaining. It was obviously all tricks just for fun.

Above all, I think what Criss Angel did effectively was proper branding. He branded his style and persona pretty well. The rock/metal/alternative clothing, the 2000s attitude, and this persona that since young he was some kind of supernatural creature. It was edgy, alternative, and the guy was charismatic! He was unlike other magicians we had seen around before that, I would even say, which means he was appealing to a large audience -- especially young.

He probably opened up the world of Magic and Illusion tricks to a lot of young folks, that's pretty neat.
