Central Gospel Music lança releitura do sucesso “Estou Contigo”, pelo projeto CGM Covers
Tumblr media

Finally paid through my deductible.
I genuinely don’t know how I would’ve paid it off with my old insurer (50% coverage as opposed to 80% I have now, it would’ve been 1400 out of pocket to pay for life-sustaining insulin I need)

Hey, I need money so I don't die from Diabetes
Mod Cat Flopter here. I have one continuous glucose monitor (CGM) left. It will last me two weeks. My others have been giving me fucky readings and peeling off the closer i get to their take off dates, so two weeks is more of a best case scenario.
Each of these costs $100 dollars. I need 3 more to make it until my insurance will cover them again, so i need $300.
Please help.

I'm a really big fan of the way demons were, for some time, depicted as being covered in beastly faces. Especially on their torso. Thinking up a tattoo in that style. Would you know of a collection of examples? Or some particularly interesting sources? Trying to collect them for inspiration.
gastrocephalic demons my beloved! idk of any collections but here are of some of my favs, all from 15th or 16th c. manuscripts 😌

Steve is a kindergarten teacher (not sure if I mentioned this before) in this universe, so he’s constantly covered in paint or glitter and he makes sure to always wear fun colored polo shirts or sweaters. He also owns one singular pair of corduroy pants that have clown dogs printed onto them that his kids absolutely love.
When Steve starts putting the patches over his cgm on his arm (when it’s visible, so usually during the beginning and end of the school year), the kids go wild for the cool colors that Eddie picked out for him.
This turns into his students trying to sneakily put stickers onto his cgm when he isn’t looking. Steve has the newest dexcom so it’s a bit smaller and more circular than the ones he used to purchase, so the stickers mostly end up on his sleeve or the skin around his cgm.
Eddie finds this extremely cute and starts to have Steve send him pictures of his arm at the end of the day to see the accuracy of the five year olds.
Since Steve is a sap he saves all of the stickers he can manage into a separate scrapbook, which he holds very dear to his heart.

Weird rant but I’m EXHAUSTED by the fact that medical supplies are either mind-numbingly clinical or literally made for children.
I’m sick of having to buy adhesive patches for my CGM that are covered in crayon scribble and unicorn patterns because all the rest are depressingly plain and I just want something colorful and FUN.
I’m sick of disabled young adults being completely overlooked by society because the stereotypes only include “decrepit elderly person” and “poor innocent child who doesn’t deserve the horrors of a disability”.
I’m sick of the idea that disabled people are incapable/undeserving of being happy and enjoying life and should just settle for a Dull Gray Existence, and if they ARE happy, then they’re an ✨amazing special inspiration✨ who’s going to constantly be put on a pedestal and infantilized to hell and back.

so a device is commercially available that kinda clicks to the sensor and would do what i need but
1) its only available in europe
2) an older version of the device WOULD work with the US sensors but
3) its unavailable and the newest version of the device only works with the european versions of the sensor
4) if i COULD find the an older one AND get it to me AND not blow it up trying to charge it because thats something i would do, it has mixed reviews on stability, general comfort, and disconnection issues
other problems:
im like 90% sure why its not available here is because
uh
so it converts the RFID to a bluetooth signal to have it sent to a phone
which is bad
because its a software vulnerability
which i mean id take that risk because i already have a software vulnerability in my pump where if you just had my serial number you can hook up a bluetooth controller to it
and like
kill me???
by dosing my with a shitload of insulin
theres no fix for it because thats technically a feature and a bug
because parents put insulin pumps on kids where rhe kid cant reach, so the pump company made a remote control so you can use the pump without unstrapping it from your hyperglycemic toddler
another thing is that if im homebrewing the hardware, theres encryption on the cgm i have because i dont fucking know, people could steal my numbers????
and theres not a lotta info on whether people have cracked it cause some loopers are kinda hush hush so they dont have their exploits patched out
THIS WOULD BE EASIER WITH A DEXCOM
i have this batshit idea i wanna build where i get an nfc reader and hook it up to my chrome and build myself a what is basically an external glucose reader that just looks like the rig from dead space
cause my coworkers sometimes dont believe im dropping dead and need to sit down and not get bothered while i smash fruit into my mask
argue with the big fuckin neon sign asshole im dying
people have figured out the libre outputs so if i can just have an arduino translate the number to an animation for a bunch of neopixels i THINK i can get a healthbar going
problem is that it doesnt really stream the data like other continuous glucose monitors, you get the info by tapping your phone against it
so id have to like. have the nfc reader ping it intermittently to change the level on the healthbar, and idk if thatd strain the battery on the libre
maybe do it like once an hour and have a button to force it to read if im feeling weird
id also have to have the reader sandwiched on top of the cgm but thats fine i can figure that out

how to write a diabetic character: CGM edition
is your diabetic character wearing a CGM? do they have to? CGMs these are Continous Glucose Monitors that can detect how much sugar is in your bloodstream.
How are they different than tradtional fingerprick (blood) tests? they take blood sugar readings 24/7, and provide you with how your sugars are doing at all times, rather than just at that moment. This leads to tremendously better control over blood sugar.
The way they work is that they can "sample" your blood sugar by testing your subcutaneous tissue for sugar levels then adjusting that value.
Tumblr media
However, they're less accurate than a fingerprick (blood) reading and will often "lag" behind by about 15 minutes.
SO if you have a character who is expereincing low or high blood sugar - they'd get an alarm on their CGM, and then they might take a fingerprick reading to make sure. CGM false alarms DO exist and it can cause some very annoying situations.
A less careful/depressed/struggling/burnt out character might A. not care or "sleep through" alarms B. not double check with a finger prick C. not care that they're wearing a CGM - pump into stuff or just rip it off (although they are very expensive!).
can you mute them? yes, and a character might choose to do this while they're sleeping, having an exam, or if they know they're about to fuck up their blood sugar.
how long do they last? the libre ones last 14 days. the dexcom ones last up to 10 days.
can you shower with them? yes
can you swim with them? yes
can you have sex with them on? yes, and i've read very funny anecdotes from diabetics having to pause during sex because their cgm was beeping
are they expensive? yes! sometimes, they're covered by insurance, but not completely. If a character is in poverty, or do not have insurance, they likely would have to rely solely on fingerpricks.
Who usually uses CGMs? they are very widespread between T1Ds and are increasingly being used by T2Ds as well.
can you share the readings on multiple devices? yes! your character might share their info with their SO, parents, roommates, close friends...etc. It is genuienly one of the most telling signs of a close relationship between people - because those people will see your "mistakes" and decisions.
where do you stick them? the libre ones (circular ones) officially just go on the back of your arm. The dexcom ones can go on just about anywhere that's "soft" - stomach, thighs, back of arm, chest...etc.
does putting them on hurt? sometimes! the way they are installed involves a needle going into the skin then sitting in the subcutaneous tissue. This can sometimes cause some bleeding, and soreness for a few hours.
Often times the process is completely painless, but this is not the case for everyone. A thinner character might struggle to find a place "cushy" enough for a cgm.
can you put them on your own? yes the process is made for one person to stick it on, but i've seen some couples on instagram act all romantic and sappy about applying it together, so that should give you some ideas for your diabetic characters' budding romances ;)
Some CGMs are just naturally faulty, i'd say about 4 sensors is a busted one, and in that case you'll have to replace them - which most companies just do without any hassle.
do they work with insulin pumps? some insulin pumps can work in tangent with CGMs and provide feedback for the user to automatically generate the correct doses of insulin, depending on their current blood sugar.
do they come off easily? depends on who you're asking. some people swear up and down that they never last and have to put on patches, which are admittedly very cute. Weather, clothing, and how clumsy a character is all factor in this. For me personally i just put them on raw and keep them together by sheer willpower.
CGMs can cause anxiety in diabetics. The constant flow of information can easily burnout people, and this can possibly be the case for any diabetic character you might write. Seeing arrows going down or up can be very distressing, especially knowing how painful some of the consequences are. I personally take breaks for both myself and my wallet from using CGMs to avoid burn out.
nonetheless, CGMs are WONDERFUL pieces of technology that have personally made me much happier as a diabetic, freer and a lot more independent.
does your character want their CGM to show? lots of people, including myself don't like revealing their CGMs - but your character might like showing them off!
and lastly - my favorite thing about CGMs - taking them off and having a "naked" shower once a month where i dont have to worry about it coming off. - They look like this:

You deserve to be comfortable in hot temperatures. In fact, it’s very dangerous if you wear clothes that prevent you from cooling off because it stops your body from being able to regulate/cool your core temperature as you’re not allowing sweat to escape properly. Not only can it worsen symptoms of already being outside in higher temperatures— such as nausea or dizziness, but it can also increase your risk of heatstroke.
If you have body hair, you deserve to be comfortable in hot weather.
If you have stretch marks, you deserve to be comfortable in hot weather.
If you have self harm scars, you deserve to be comfortable in hot weather.
If you’re fat, you deserve to be comfortable in hot weather.
If you have any other scars that you might hold shame or embarrassment over, you deserve to be comfortable in hot weather.
If you’re disabled and it affects the way your body looks, or you have additions to your person like an ostomy bag, an insulin pump/cgm, or any other extension of you, you deserve to be comfortable in hot weather.
No matter the person, what you look like, how you feel about your body (whether you hate it or love it or somewhere in between), you deserve to be comfortable.
I absolutely understand hiding under a hoodie, I used to do it too. However, when you cover your body with layers, or a hoodie or long pants whatever, you block out its own ability to help you survive. When you sweat, it cools your body down and also releases sodium and other electrolytes from your body. The harder your body works, the more you will sweat. And the more you sweat, the more fluids your body loses. Which is why you see all of those Gatorade ads for athletes. Also, your body begins to work harder when the weather becomes warmer because it’s already triggering that natural response. And if you’re not drinking at least water, you will make it worse and it can become life threatening if you’re not careful.
You do not have to be in the sunshine to get heatstroke. It can happen to anyone, anywhere— including indoors. (And that’s why you see the “don’t leave your kids or pets in the car” warnings and advisories.) Keeping yourself cool can mean life or death. You won’t ever win against the sun.
You deserve to be comfortable this summer and every summer after that. Please, take care.

I'm making a wheelchair user picrew because I'm so fucking tired of not being included in picrews so I'm making one for just us, WIP
Tumblr media
[ID: a screenshot of a picrew of a wheelchair user doing a wheelie. the wheelchair user has a pink rigid wheelchair, strawberry hair in a short ponytail, a nasal feeding tube with pink tape, a green crop top with mushrooms on it, blue jeans with a crescent moon and stars on them, a pink ostomy bag, and pink AFOs]
I fucked up quite a few of the pinks in this, they don't match, oh well I might fix it later
I'm adding:
-an variety of skin tones
-a variety of hair textures and styles
-head coverings
-medical devices (HAs, BAHAs, CIs, 3 types of feeding tube, oxygen tube, tracheostomy, PICC line, Hickman line, ostomy bag, AFOs, KAFOs, knee braces, wrist braces, elbow braces, CGM, service dog, no constraints on the number of medical devices)
-customizable wheelchair options (arm rests, clothing guards, push rim colors, spoke protectors, calf strap, backpack, power assist)
-multiple vitiligo options
-multiple styles of glasses
-facial differences (microtia, anotia, cleft lip, ptosis)
I'm going to try to add:
-different body type
-prosthetics
I can't add (due to constrictions with layering and the base)
-missing limbs
-different styles of wheelchair
if there's anything you think I'm missing or want to suggest you're welcome to comment/send an ask- I need ideas
