my academic journey (warning: i ranted) -
so ever since i started school till about the end of 8th grade i was always a 90%+/straight A student. the kind of child my classmates & cousins would be compared too. not trying to glamorize comparison btw, i personally think that's really toxic & pressurizing. so yeah, i was a "good" quiet kid. i listened attentively in class and submitted all my homework on time. the only complain teachers had about me was that i was "too quiet" but that wasn't a real issue. i was just shy but talkative with my few friends yano. i spent the entirety of 7th grade & most of 8th grade in online classes so my habits of studying went to shit. still somehow managed 91% in my 8th grade finals. and then 9th began and it all went downhill. teachers kept saying 'next year is ur board exams, u need to study a lot, etc, etc.' so if u're not from india we basically have these major 'board exams' at the end of 10th & 12th grade. but 10th boards don't really matter all that much, teachers just make a big fuss about it. 12th boards matter, but that's also the time we give college entrance exams and that sorta matters more according to most ppl. n yeah, idk what happened but i got overwhelmed. i could no longer just do well in class and study before exams and get good marks. i felt dumb. my grades didn't see a single improvement. i honestly gave up in the middle of it all and got sick of school. and at one point, it became less burn out & more clinging to the familiarity of not doing anything. i became lazy. and i became a hypocrite. i'd always tell myself, this time i'm gonna study, this time i'm gonna score well. well that 'this time' never came. 10th grade got even worse and i scored 73% in my board exams because i barely studied at all. at the same time, my relationship with my parents has constantly been unraveling. and i saw just how much of their 'pride' was dependent on me being the kid they could show off and smile widely when others replied 'wow she's going places'. my father can't hold a single conversation with me now that doesn't go back to me being a disappointment. and now i'm the kid who has to listen to her parents compare her to others. 'be like her, your friend', they say. halfway though 11th rn and i guess what?? still no fucking improvement. but the thing is i know this is the last straw. i can feel it. i got around 64% in my first tests (pa-1) of 11th. haven't gotten mid term results yet but i'm estimating just above 50%. and the thing is it's not that i can't score well. i know my potential all too well. i know i can score such high marks. but the problem is i don't study. if i just studied a couple hours every day, i can easily manage above 80%. with constant improvement i can manage above 90% again. but i don't. and that's ending right this instant. i'm not gonna turn into an academic weapon overnight or smth ik that. but i'm gonna start slowly but surely working hard. i have big dreams, i know i can achieve them if i just put in the effort. plans have been made, all i need to do is execute them. execute my laziness. i'm gonna get better. i'm gonna prove everyone who thinks i'm never gonna do it wrong, and i'm gonna prove myself right. this comeback will be for me, my inner child. the little kid in me deserves to not wind up a washed-out failure.
academic goals! -
pa-2 - 75-80%
11th finals - 80-85%
12th pa-1 - above 90%
uni - iiser (college for pure science research, bs + ms integrated)

A thing about notes and note taking in general:
Tumblr media
Notes in my opinion is one of THE BEST ways to consolidate our learning and to broaden our understanding. However, the method of notetaking matters and so does the subject.
I think the reason why a lot of people, despite taking notes, don't get a good grade is because of their inefficient and wrong method of notetaking and the revision of rewriting our notes.
Let me explain.
The first time you learn a topic, be it from a textbook or video, we take down notes. Whenever our teacher teaches us in school or in tuition, we take down these lecture notes. These lecture notes are to simplify our learning as our teachers often explain concepts for us to get a grasp of it. That's level 1 of our note taking.
With textbooks like the NCERT, we often have to refer to other guides and websites and just resources in general to learn concepts or learn the basics of certain concepts as NCERT skips them over. By doing this thing where we dive deep into a certain concept, it helps us to connect to the topic and it is very helpful for higher studies and colleges. Study to learn and learn to study. This is level 2 where we deepen our knowledge.
Now we compare the textbook,, our lecture notes and our other conceptual understanding notes so we can derive on whatever's important from an exam point of view. This is where our mind mapping and the connectivity of topics in our brain starts. This is level 3 of note taking where we bring our first draft of consolidated notes.
Finally, we go through past paper questions, question banks, book backs and numericals and add these questions, modify our notes in certain concepts so we have the best chance of getting full marks on that concept. This is level 4.
This is HOW we should take notes. Not once or twice, we have to take notes in such a way that we understand a backcbones of the topic first. Then we must consolidate to create exam style notes to minimise time for our revision sessions.
It is really time consuming, I do agree, but half of our work is done if we listen in school and write whatever that's relevant whenever our teachers teaching rather than whatever's written on the board. I find that many teachers often explain some concepts via voice rather than noting the points down on a whiteboard. So it's better to take out ur textbook and follow along with whatever the teachers saying and relate and take our lecture notes.
This is 50-60% of our work done in school.
If school teachers aren't good, then we have videos on YouTube or tuition as our alternate.
The rest is up to us at home as once those refined notes are finished, I promise you they will get you the best grades possible. It just takes a bit of deep work + hard work+ consolidating by making connections.
Love,
Mith <3

when the last lesson said "will they make them sing in german, even the pigeons?" and when lost spring said "food is more important for survival than an identity" and when deep water said "i shouted with joy, and gilbert peak returned the echo" and when the rattrap said "if he wanted to spend next christmas eve in a place where he could rest in peace, and be sure that no evil would befall him, he would be welcomed back again" and when poets and pancakes said "this was perhaps the only instance in all human history where a lawyer lost his job because the poets were asked to go home" and when going places said "damn that geoff, was nothing sacred?" and when keeping quiet said "now i'll count up to twelve / and you keep quiet and i will go" and when aunt jennifer's tigers said "the tigers in the panel that she made / will go on prancing, proud and unafraid" and when journey to the end of the earth said "a lot can happen in a million years, but what a difference a day makes" and when the enemy said "i wonder why i could not kill him?" and when and when and when and when

The lockdown was difficult because it did not allow me to grow mentally.
My mind is still stuck at 8th grade where I could get 2nd or 3rd position without trying and putting efforts just by studying the night before. But now I'm giving my final exams at 12th grade my brain doesn't know how to put efforts and just procrastinates and i regret everything and have a panic attack the night before. And it will be disastrous once i get to college.
I think i need professional help because everyday my anxiety is getting worse and my friend had to calm me down from attacks through whatsapp.
Can anyone please give me some advice

I uh, got 87%, didn't cross the threshold to 90 but it's alright, the lowest I've got on an official exam so a little bummer(little is an understatement, everyone I know save for 2 people has got above 90)

DAY - 1
Tumblr media
• Deep work•
Physics - Gravitation numericals
I find physics so hard in terms of numericals, I did really REALLY badly on my term 1 exam, mostly because I joined school late (abroad student haha (😭)
But here's my general plan for physics numericals and I'm using this blog as a way to document my experiences and study techniques to see which one works best and hopefully I get to help some of my fellow cose students too :)
My school uses SL aurora and gives us notes from that book. I highly recommend it for theory and questions because it's in depth and the derivations omds are beautiful.
So my focus is to first do: ( more like try LMAOOO)
•SL aurora examples and numericals
• NCERT examples and solutions
• Oswaal questions
• HC verma solutions
•NCERT exemplar
This sounds so tedious and long Icl but like I want to test it to see whether it helps me, to check where the questions are coming from in my periodic tests and I want to be confident enough for the next periodic test :)
I’ll update y’all with my periodic test scores to see if this works lol
Love,
Mith < 3

14th november, thursday
children's day
so like.. let's just ignore how i have't been active for quite a bit. depression fucking sucks. in desperate need of a reality check cuz wdym my next periodic tests are a month away?? i was chilling in my dussehra holidays just last week (it's been a month). less depressing fanfiction, more textbooks :(
i'm going to be trying to get back into the flow from tmr!! for the past few days i've only been up-to-date with notes & submissions and that's it. i haven't done any more actual "studying". i just need to make more time for it & get through it. i like my subjects & i'm gonna continue reminding myself that i actually love what i'm learning, even when it's difficult.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
soooooo, today was children's day! we didn't have to wear our uniforms and omg everyone looked so good!! like the way everyone styled their different clothes & accessories was all so pretty! we had a special assembly at school at first where our teachers danced too. we were supposed to have the first half of our regular classes but our teachers mostly let us pass our time. me & my friends were just talking & snacking the entire time (a few pics were also taken!). i usually don't get my phone to school cuz my dad directly drops & picks me up, but today i took my phone to school to take pictures! (technically my mom's, i don't actually have my own phone). then our two classes were combined (science+commerce) & our class teachers conducted a few simple games. mostly simple fun stuff involving cups & balloons. before leaving me & my friend managed to click a few more pics. then i got home & fell asleep for a few hours lol (gimme a break i got around 5 hrs of sleep. also i somehow woke up around 5:45 a.m.! i barely get myself to get out of bed at 7:30 on other days)
today was really fun tbh. like me & this one friend mostly just yapped but i'm feeling so grateful for her<3 met her on the third day of school this year & suddenly it's been more than 5 months & the only constant is that we're both always yapping in our classes. yk when u find someone u can joke around with & tease yet also have deep conversations about stuff like humanity, art, politics, religion, career, our futures, marriage, etc. we have a lot in common too (introverts, book lovers, weird relationship with parents, love writing). feels like she just gets me yk. it's really nice..
