ok so i cant work on my wip rn because... in bed so im gonna wax poetic about it instead.

ive always been kinda confused with where alabasta is supposed to be set, in a way its kinda like disneys aladdin in that is just sorta mixes togeather a bunch of swana/se cultures/imagery to create a vauge idea of a 'desert country'. but considering Nefertari is an egyptian name (Nefertari Meritmut being the main example, an egyptian queen and first wife of Ramesses). im going to personally go with that idea.

with that out the way the main thing i wanna talk about... mehndi! (or henna). i personally think it would be so much cooler if the 'X' code was done in it. because the whole resolution to it is that while the X may fade, their friendship dosnt. Mehndi is an art that works of this principal, similar to rangoli. bridal henna for example is super intiquite and significant for the bride(/groom if ur progressive like that) on the mehndi celebration and shadi itself, and yet it fades away. But the specialness of the occcasion doesnt.

theres also the fact that it takes wayy longer to fade, so the drawn out process of that would be more impactful. ironicaly enough, for nami/sanji the most as they wash more often (namivivi angsttt). luffy and zoro being last.

because of all this im really obsessed with the idea of mehdi being a namivivi love languge. its such a wonderful artform to share with another person and in a romantic context tthe artistry and body worship aspects you could add are just. soo good.

I do like the everyone is at least a little in love with luffy headcanon but it turns me off when it turns into straight up worship like no they all think he’s gross and deeply uncool but they love him anyway. Not despite of it but because of it you know? Like he’s the kind of guy who’ll pull you out of the deepest hole of despair and look you dead in the eye and tell you he’ll do anything to help you but he also straight up threw hands with an eight year old. When I think about the possibility of Vivi rejoining the crew, I can’t help but think about what makes her stand out when placed next to the other Strawhats.

To me her goals were always the most altruistic in the crew. She always tried to maintain peace, teaching Luffy about putting your pride aside and being patient for others. I think about the motives behind her actions, and then I compare them to the Strawhats, who are mostly incredibly selfish.

I love all the Mugiwara because of their selfish traits and not despite of them, of course. But let’s all remember the only reason they ever initially agreed to save Vivi’s life was because Nami downright forced Igaram to offer up a reward in exchange (as Navivi trash this fact makes me all the more insane about how their bond developed). And then you have others like Franky, whose introduction was him beating and robbing Usopp with zero remorse, and even our dear Sanji who once said they should just leave Smoker to die because he’s their enemy. Lovable bastards all of them, but it’s always been clear to me that Vivi is much more prone to wanting to do the right thing, instead of what she really wants or what is best. Like dropping everything to find Nami a doctor despite how desperate she was to reach Alabbasts, and being willing to run around the dessert desperately to avoid the bloodier solution, running herself and the crew ragged so she wouldn’t put others in danger by facing Crocodile head-on. And most of all, choosing to stay behind the first place.

I cant help but view her as a bit of a moral compass among the crew, a pacifistic and self-sacrificial even to her own detriment. If she’d stayed with the Strawhats, or if she were to rejoin them, in which direction would she manage to stir them…?

Just thought about something for a second: shanks is so fucking sketchy. He warned shirohige about blackbeard and to stop ace and look at what happened. Also now he is talking to the gorusei about luffy (probably about his fruit (joyboy/nika if I assume right) bc he was the one who found it) and now imu is after him, shirahoshi (poseidon) and vivi (who knows something about the weapon mariejoa holds bc of her family's history with the place), blackbeard is still a menace but because of having two fruits or because of being a d? Both? And what does that make him a menace at ancestral weapon level (like the others)? I have so many questions. Why does shanks like luffy but still warns the gorusei about him. Why do they respect him. Why did they let him stop marineford. Why is he so powerful. Why is he a yonkou. Shanks is key to all this and I DON'T KNOW WHY
