can’t stop thinking about soap being the kind of boyfriend that takes you on arcade or carnival dates. he definitely takes all of the games WAY too seriously. absolutely smokes everyone at skeeball. probably does those stupid punching bag/hammer strength tests just to show off in front of you. he doesn’t even let you win he’s that competitive. but it’s kinda funny and endearing. he wins a TON of tickets and then gets you the biggest fucking stuffed animal they have even as you protest and tell him that you have no place to put it.

his little mohawk popping around the head of the giant puppy stuffed animal he won you boyish smile plastered on his face while he ignores your protests. you’re stuck with the thing forever now.

you ever think about how Misa's lack of intelligence and the way she lets her emotions impulsively dictate her actions was kinda constantly made the butt of the joke in DN, yet she genuinely outlived all the dudes and dudettes who were always scoffing at her stupidity. Somehow this is even better to me in that she wasn't even trying to outlive Light and didn't have any particularly high regard for her own life, so it's not due to her secretly being the best strategist of them all intentionally either... Regardless of the author's intent behind it I like that it pokes some holes in their constant smug assertions that you must have the very highest IQ to be the last guy standing in the murder notebook game

I spent a chunk of yesterday making a bunch of these trope memes for atypical's shows and when I tell you I BLANKED on how to describe a show I spent the better part of my twenties writing...

I'm really curious, TBS listeners, what tropes/identifiers/hooks would you use to get someone to listen to the show?

So it would seem I was on a list of people blocked by a decent sized Coffin blog over my take on the intoxicated intimacy between Andrew and Ashley referenced in the Shots and Such ending. As were a few of my moots who took the same or similar stances.

My position is pretty straightforward. By all evidence, what happened was Ashley (and likely Andrew too) got drunk, and with their emotional barriers down, Ashley was able to express her affections fully. She melted down the next day because once the alcohol wore off, that vulnerability upset her.

The framing of Andrew wanting to make love to her "properly", the state of their relationship by that point, that it started with them cuddling, that she wanted him "over and over" and that it made him feel like they were lovers all point to that conclusion.

The point of this scene was to emphasize that Andrew and Ashley still love and desire one another, but that love and desire is being buried under mountains of resentment, fear, etc. Of all the times Andrew and Ashley had sex in that ending, it is by far the most mutually consenual and reciprocated.

The alternative is based on cherrypicking Ashley's meltdown and reading in assumptions - Ashley being too drunk to consent, Andrew not drinking, Andrew being deluded enough to misunderstand, the narration being uncharacteristically unreliable despite it having zero reservations in taking the piss out of Andrew elsewhere in that ending.

It really only works if you assume that ANY intoxication and regret automatically equals a lack of consent. As someone who comes from a long line of Irish and Belgian drinkers and who has done a ton of things I regretted drunk, this line of thinking is nonsense. Drinking exposes a side of oneself that may be painful to face, but it often is a more honest reflection than the sober self.

To argue otherwise is to say that geniunely wanting to make love while intoxicated is somehow less valid than having reluctant, painful hate sex for fear of being abandoned.

Being a Catholic myself, the inability of many to take responsibility for their intoxicated decisions is something that reinforces my view that those people shouldn't be drinking in the first place, and especially not sleeping around. But that is neither here nor there.

Of course, while I do believe in the importance of open discourse and respectful disagreement, far be it for to criticize someone for wanting to prune their feeds. Sometimes people's takes just don't mesh comfortably and that's fine.

But making a post publicly announcing who you're blocking, adding misrepresentations of their positions to boot? That's childish. Unless she was that anon, she didn't engage with my points at all, and even if she was, I replied respectfully.

Anyway. That's about all I have to say on the subject.

Hey, boss! Quick thought: Jason and Cass are basically Irish twins and Jason is totally that little brother who acts like her older brother/dad and she only lets him do it because its endearing.

Like he consistently shows up at all of her ballet recitals with a bouquet of flowers.

And he takes her out for ice cream when she comes back from a particularly long mission and he knows that the batgirls are unavailable.

And he can tell when she's feeling down about something so he takes her out on his motorbike for wordless drives.

But she's also not afraid of calling little brother just to remind him every now and then.

And he's learnt not to invite her to play video games, unless she's feeling particularly out of touch/having worries about her self-worth, because she will destroy him every time. He doesn't even need to pretend (not that he ever would obviously)

Ahhh I actually really love the idea of Cass and Jason being really close (although it probably wouldn't work out if you still hc Jason as a crimelord/killer) but just the thought that they both understand each other in ways that the others might not is a really nice thought I think.

I also LOVE to hc Cass as the older one, especially since Jason seems like he'd be the older one considering he looks like a fucking 6'4" linebacker that could take you out with one slap

Also also, just based on their canon interpretations as of right now, I actually would LOVE to see an exploration of their characters when put together.

Cass was raised and abused by her father to be a ruthless killing machine since birth, and yet she still turned out to be an incredibly empathetic person who believes anyone can change for the better.

Jason, when he was young also had a rough childhood (grew up in the slums of Gotham, had a father with a criminal background and a mother who succumbed to drug abuse) he'd basically witnessed the worst of Gotham and still believed in the good of people when he was Robin.

In the current comics, Jason heavily wants to turn his lifestyle around, going non-lethal and trying to get away from the more questionable actions of his past. I think it would be super interesting to have Cass empathize with wanting to escape the dark parts of yourself with Jason and also have Jason see his younger self in Cass with how she vehemently strives to save everyone like how he did long ago.

I would so be down for a lil duo run of these two. Maybe have them relate to each other with the roughness of their childhoods or have them explore/share the struggles of trying to better yourself when it feels like everything is against you.
