Cat Man

Thanks so much for 1000 notes on the original post guys—I’ve never had so many people seeing and sharing my art before. Honestly it’s a little terrifying. But I’m so grateful! I’m glad you like my silly sketches. I feel like if Bat Man existed in the Ladybug universe, or something similarly edgy, that would be Chris’s favorite thing ever. He probably likes edgy stuff, and watches shows that are too grown up for him without understanding the nuance. I imagine him posing dramatically and stuff to try and look cool, saying edgy stuff to the villains like “You went bad because you tried to be good.” With absolutely no clue what that means. He’d just say it to sound cool. And before anyone says it, yes, I know he looks like a PJ mask.

And yeah, there are cooler names than Cat Man, but I wanted the name to be symbolic of Chris’s perception of himself—that he’s an adult rather than a kid. He probably thinks he’s way more mature than the other super kids. He’s not.

as a side note, I imagine him creating dark backstories for himself about his dead family or his grudge against his sister’s killer, or something equally silly. :)

Things that happen at home:

So, me and my husband had to put down Noni cat last weekend, but her funeral was this weekend (basically because dad and middle sister couldn’t make it) but my dad brought the ingredients for her concrete slab tombstone and Middle Sister brought hugs and flowers.

It was a nice afternoon. We dug the grave in a nice spot in the front yard where I’d planted some irises that my grandparents gave me a few years ago, my dad micromanaged the mixing of concrete (to be expected, he literally got his Ph. D. in concrete structural engineering) then we held hands and said a quick prayer and got lunch and talked about Noni a bit before we started making plans for American Thanksgiving.

My husband was a mechanic before all this surgery stuff happened, and he happened to have a really nice wooden Snap On box that was lying around, so that was the “coffin” and my mom brought extra shovels with different heads, so we got the box a good two feet down.

I did the writing on the concrete slab, which was harder than I remembered it being.

Dad was funny; he’s very dry, so you honestly can’t tell if he’s fucking with you sometimes, but he’s the person who knows the most about concrete. At this point in my relationship with him, I just do exactly what he instructs and wait for him to do his quiet snort thing to see if he’s actually fucking with me. 9 times out of 10 he just gives you very serious instructions, then corrects you to SEEM like he’s being a typical nitpicking engineer, when whatever you are doing doesn’t actually effect the outcome…and then just watches you quietly for his own amusement.

Anyway, based on certain science projects from middle school and high school, I do actually know that he was being serious about how to mist concrete, but I also am vaguely aware that the type of misting that he’s talking about is only genuinely important for concrete structures meant to support millions of tons of weight.

Am I still going to mist my 12”x12” concrete cat tombstone every hour for the next 24 hours and every six hours for the next 7 days?

Yes.

My daddy told me that’s what’s best for the concrete and therefore what’s best for my poor dead cat.

Even though I know he’s fucking with me. It’s done out of love and he will genuinely think it’s hilarious.
