Self indulgent headcanon that Newt is disabled too, just in a way that most people don’t clock at first. Their first meeting is around the time Hermann first has to use a mobility aid due to EDS & he’s still a bit insecure about it & of course Newt being Newt, he draws an unnecessary amount of attention to it & makes what he thinks are lighthearted jokes to lighten to mood. After a certain point Hermann just snaps, saying something about how Newt could never understand what it was like, only to find out later (possibly years later when they’re forced to work in a lab together) that he’s got some form of dysautonomia & is at this point multiple cans of caffeine/salt shots in a trench coat cosplaying as a human being. Man is scooting himself around on his wheeled chair with half his vision blacked out still trying to argue with Hermann & slowly he starts to realize that this idiot is running himself into the ground & progressively getting worse because he’s too stubborn to take care of his damn self.
It all comes to a head after a week of Newt passing out in or near Kaiju remains that Hermann decides if this idiot won’t take his disability seriously that he would do it for him. Hermann who always makes sure Newt has little snacks or small meals nearby that he thinks he’s stealing from Hermann or that was leftover from his eyes being too big for his stomach. Hermann who bargains with him- that he’d agree that Newt was right about something Only If Newt would drink a full glass of water first. Hermann who gets one of the Jaegers to install an extra fan on Newt’s side if the lab so he doesn’t overheat in the summer months & “accidentally” leaves a warm jacket on the back Newt’s chair to keep him warm during the winter months.

Rewatching Pacific Rim right now, and there's this tiny moment between Mako and Raleigh that I really love
Toward the beginning of the movie, before any of the main action, Mako is showing Raleigh around the shatterdome, introducing him to the newly-renovated Gipsy Danger
Directly after this, Mako shows Raleigh to his quarters and the two of them have this conversation:
They talk a little more, Mako reveals her amazing simulator score, but also confirms that she is not one of the pilot candidates. They then discuss Raleigh's abilities. He asks Mako for her opinion - she thinks he is skilled but too unpredictable and reckless. She ends with this:
Raleigh thanks Mako for her honestly and says she may be right. Then goes on to say this:
And the tiny detail in this scene that drives me crazy is right here
He says when. Not if, when. Mako has just explicitly confirmed that Marshal Pentecost is not considering her for Jaeger pilot. It has already been established at this point that there are only 4 Jaegers left anyway, and that the program is nearing its end, one way or another. In all likelihood, they have very little time left until the end of the whole damn world. Hell, Mako herself just criticized Raleigh, and he could very well wish to get back at her for that, were he a different person. AND YET, despite all of that, he says when. Raleigh has faith in Mako from the very, very beginning, before they even drift together, before he even sees her fight.
And that drives me crazy! I love their relationship so much

I feed off of sweet characters getting such horrible trauma that they wake up screaming.
It’s truly a problem but at least my filters on A03 are easy to find😔😌

imo a core part of the newmann dynamic is like... you've got these two very very intelligent people who have spent most of their lives being Smartest Guy In The Room. which feels great! but also, it's very hard to form close and trusting relationships when everyone else sees you as Smartest Guy In The Room. and if you maybe don't have great social skills to begin with, you can't figure out how to compensate. and it's hard to build up solid self-esteem when the only thing people value you for is your intelligence, and a lot of them resent you for that, too. so really it is very very lonely.
and then they meet! and neither of them is the smartest guy in the room anymore! and that is both EXHILIRATING (omg! someone who gets me!) and TERRIFYING (the fragile pillar i built my whole self-esteem on is crumbling! help!).
they do NOT know how to cope with this. best they can do is being obsessed with each other.

What if newt Newt and froggy Hermann took shelter together during a storm 🥺
[ID: two digital drawings of Hermann and Newt as a toad and a newt taking shelter from the rain under two leaves. The first drawing shows them looking at each other and arguing with croaks and squeaks. Text at the bottom reads:
(Hermann): this is all your fault, Newton.
(Newt): Hey. I was not the one who started screaming when that lab-tech walked in.
The second shows Newt now having climbed on Hermann's back and is screaming. Hermann looks a bit defeated. Text at the bottom reads:
(Newt): I'm so fucking bored, Herms, I am going to explode, dude.
(Hermann): I will kick you off my back into the rain. End ID]
They got kicked out of the lab. ):

One of the things about being a morning person (like a wakes-up-at-4-am-no-problem morning person) is that you gotta remember to text people at like. Reasonable hours of the day and not when you are awake.

*had to repeat can be anything from his parents forcing him to, to just doing so badly he was given the option
like I typically have him fail his 5th because that's more time to catch up and more time with Percy and because suddenly being in the same class as Oliver when before they were not, is alot of fun but I'm curious if there's a consensus
